There is a reason they only have one star (and not just from me). I rented a car for one day. The car was OK. It was the bill that you have to watch out for.
I was quoted an amount over the Internet and reserved the car. What I thought was very strange was the fact that they insisted on the money up front. This is the first car rental company that has ever done this in my experience. That was the first red flag.
The price for a one day rental was high but I couldn't find anything better at the time. When I returned home I looked at my credit card and there were 2 other charges. I wrote Avis and they admitted that they overcharged, saying, "it appears that your rate value was defaulted from your base rate". I have no idea what that means but they did credit my credit card properly.
The thing that bothers me the most, and is the reason I will never rent from Avis again, is that I had to tell them that they overcharged me. Their excuse was not understandable and quite frankly sounded like a bunch of mumbo jumbo. When I am quoted a price for something I expect that the price I pay will be the same as the quote. I don't think anyone would find that unreasonable. As far as I'm concerned if you can't trust a company, then I don't want to do business with that company ever again. read more
