I do not recommend dealing with this company! They simply do not care about their customers. As a regular customer, I was given a very dirty car, and they explained that it was the last car they had available. After I complained, I was told that I would receive a coupon for one free day of rental on my next visit. I never received that coupon. When I came back to rent another car, they said they had no idea what I was talking about and made me pay the full rental price! I am extremely disappointed with this kind of service and treatment. I cannot say enough about the helpfulness of the gentleman here at Avis. I was in a tremendous bind, looking for a way to resolve an issue that Avis at the airport had created because of how busy they were and not paying attention to things. I explained the situation to the gentleman here. And, without missing a beat, he offered me a quick, simple, easy solution. When I went to this location to resolve issue with my rental car. Everything went well with the checkin process and vehicle I thought. When I received the final bill it was $165.82 higher than the quote. When I called customer service I was told that I opted for the up sale insurance which I told them I did not want. Of course they have my initial on the contract that I wanted it. In a busy airport of course I like everyone else don't read 8 pages of fine print. I assume that they write it as I requested. They offered 1/2 of the money back. I asked them to review my over 40 years of renting cars with AVIS to see I have never bought the extra insurance. Doesn't matter, they would rather essentially call me a liar and never have my business again. What a business model! read more

Renters beware! I rented a car from Avis as my car was being repaired. Based on my mechanic's estimate, I rented for 5 days. I prepaid on the website when I reserved the car. To my surprise, the parts to repair my car were quickly located and the work was done in one day. I returned the rental today and was told that I would not be credited for the 4 extra days because I prepaid. Over $400 lost. I do understand that is my responsibility to read the pages and pages of fine print, but I wonder how it possible to imagine every possible scenario that might happen when you rent a car. This is just a word of warning to any renters. If you might return a car early, do not prepay. If you ask for the balance back on your card, they will refuse. No resolutions offered. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. There were damages to our rental car prior to our rental. We were charged nearly $500 for the damages despite the fact that the damages were ALREADY THERE and marked when we picked up the vehicle. read more

I created a Yelp account just to leave this review. We reserved a car online and spoke with someone at the business less than an hour before our scheduled pickup. When we arrived the business was closed early despite still being their business hours. Two other customers arrived after me with similar stories. Called the customer service number on the door and was told each Avis was individually owned and all hey could do was book us a car at another location at a substantially higher rate despite being able to see the details of our original reservation. Closing early despite having upcoming reservations left me scrambling to find a car after most other locations had closed for the day. I had to find a ride to the airport and pay double the price of my reservation, and use two hours of my time that I frankly didn't have. No one from Avis seems to care about how the situation was handled or my future business. read more

My family and I had to rent a car to drive out of town for a funeral. We spent so long looking at different places trying to find the best prices and are so happy we landed on Avis. We rented a brand new Jeep Cherokee with only 6,000 miles on it and it was still cheaper than older cars at other rental spots. Ray made the process so nice and easy and stress free. We were also so happy with the fact there are no hidden fees and things they tack on last minute. Picking up the car and returning it was so easy we were in and out in less than 5 minutes. 10/10 would recommend and we will be renting from them again. read more

We originally had a reservation with another car company, but ran into some bumps because we wanted to change our way to a one way and returning the car in California and it ended with us cancelling. Avis had a fair rate for us to pick up the car here in Utah and return it in California. No fuss pick up, we had a pretty clean Toyota Camry and return was easy too. I didn't want to believe the horrible reviews, but it's true this place sucks! I rented an intermediate car labor day weekend and had booked it over a week in advance. When the day came to pick it up, they ran out of all intermediate cars and sedans. They gave me a subaru crosstrek as an "upgrade" even though I didn't want an SUV. The guy helping me seemed so lazy he didn't have the form to mark over damages on the vehicle and I had to get him to look at all the scratches and dents on the car so I wouldn't be liable for it when returning the car. Also they NEVER pick up their damn phones here yet, when I was there they're never busy. The interior of the car was really dirty and it SMELLED so bad, but i had no choice cause they ran out of ALL cars. The smell stayed on my clothes and luggage it was disgusting. On top of that, the gas wasn't full all the way when I first got the car and the guy marked that it was full and to return it full. I had to complain about that and show him that it's not completely full when I received it. When I returned the car, I was 39 mins late and from my experience form renting cars from other companies, there is a 1 hour window. This stupid worker here decided to charge me a whole HOUR for being 39 mins late WITHOUT telling me. He didn't tell me about their late return policy either. I specifically asked him do I need to sign anything and get a receipt for my return and he said no. This led me to think that I would be billed my original quote, but when I checked my credit card it was a lot higher and that's when I found out about the extra charge. You can't go charging people without explaining why and letting them know! That's how shitty their customer service is. Never renting avis again read more

My girlfriend rented us a car from the Sandy location she Needed to extend two days for reasons out of her control. They wanted to charge us $120 a day ‍ ... Is this really a way to treat an already paying customer? I'll never use this place again. Talk about jumping over a dollar to pick up a penny. There customer service is horrible. Our plane was stuck on the tarmac at Provo for 10 minutes. We called ahead to let the guy know we would be 2 minutes late and arriving at 6:02 according to Google maps and asked if he could wait. He said sorry I close at 6:00. We said please, it's just 2 minutes. He said no, I pick up my grandkids - I close at 6:00, not a minute later. We arrived at 6:02 and he was already gone. Because we were 2 minutes late, we had to get a ride to Salt Lake airport, wait in an hour line there and pay an extra $100 to rent from that location. Got a rental in sandy. Required my friend to sign for the an additional driver even though we clearly stated that they would not be driving. The old hag working said it doesn't change anything, it's just for documentation. when we came back they charged us $35 a day for the additional driver under the age of 25. When we tried to reason with the same employee he was rude and made comments about how we were stupid. this location of Avis (sandy Utah) is shady and practices unprofessional/ dishonest business tactics. read more

So, made a car rental reservation through Costco. Got my reservation number in my little hands, and headed to Avis to pick up the car. Arrived at Avis, and went to the counter. The clerk advised he was out of everything except SUVs. "So, you're offering an upgrade?", I asked. "Nope." was the reply. "Does another location have one available?", I query. "Don't know, my computer is down." Gee, thanks for the top notch customer disservice. Got the 800# off the door on my way out. Placed a call to their call center. Certainly they can help resolve the issue. Yeah, fat chance. The call center agent, we'll call him "Dude", was like... "Whoa yeah, like that's totally bummer dude." If he was referring to himself in the third person, or thought my name was Dude, too, I'm not certain. So I ask Dude if he can find another location that has a car. "No way, dude. I can give you their number but you'll have to do the dialin' bro." I thank the Dude for his obvious lack of help, and try to wrap up the call so I can quickly get ahold of the other location to check on car availability. That's when Dude turns into Billy Mayes... "Yo, wait before you go, bro..." "Yeah?" I reply. "Do you like run a small business?" was Dude's seemingly off topic, or perhaps perfect perception, and his dude-isom just a front to keeping it real. "Yes, Dude, I manage a small business, goodbye." "No, wait bro! Like, do you like want to join our Avis business program? I can hook you up." But wait, there's more... "Really?", I ask the Dude. Based on the Avis platinum service to this point, I can't wait to sign up! Yeah, trust Avis to handle anything that might be important to business? Like relying on Avis to, God forbid, have a #$@&%*! car so that I might actually be able to get to a business-related seminar, which is the reason I'm renting a car? I felt like breaking into a good George Carlin style rant at this point, but restrained myself. Surely such comic genius would be lost on a simple Dude. "No dude, it's Dude, not Shirley," came Dude's unexpected response. "K, bro, whatever... I can transfer you to sign up if you want...." At this point I just go [click]... Bye bye Dude. So I dial the number Dude gave me for the next closest Avis location. This time, the phone is answered by a gentleman who at can at least articulate why his Avis location is also car-less. He lets me know he'll have some cars available tomorrow afternoon, and would be happy to hold one for me. I thank him for the offer, but let him know I have to be at a meeting at 7:30 the next morning in city almost 300 miles away, hence the need for a car forthwith. At this point the thought, "I can reserve you a flight coming back from Chicago at 5:55, does that help?" pops into my mind. It's at this soul crushing point I wheel my Samsonite luggage to the closest street corner, wrestle away the cardboard and black marker from the professional panhandler, and ink out, "Saint George or bust" on the sign. As fate would have it, a nice gentleman named Ford Prefect just happened by. He offered me a ride, and asked if I'd had lunch yet. "Why no, Ford, I haven't." "We can make a quick stop at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, then be on our way." "Sounds good." I reply. Then I mention if it's near Planet Hollywood in Vegas, that's just a bit too far past Saint George. "Don't panic." Alright, I suppose I won't, I thought. Got my rental in Sandy, hit the road and heading straight to Laughlin, anybody who knows the drive from Salt Lake to Saint George knows there are no bumpy roads and it's literally a straight shot... as soon as I pass up beaver, the screw on my back right side bumper pops out and the wind ends up pushing the bumper back and bends it.... going the speed limits 65, 70, 75 on a flat straight path without hitting any thing, I'm pretty convinced they gave me a car not suitable to be rented. Not if it was breaking down that easily. I had to go to Home Depot to buy zip ties to replace the long lost screw. read more

I have rented at this location about 2-3 times a year for 15 years. I have not experienced any of the negative issues that I read here in reviews. I have rented from Avis for 30 years. Living in Hawaii I have to rent a car whenever I travel off island. I return the cars or SUV's clean, throw away the garage, return full of gas. No problems so far. Manager is always helpful. Rentals have gotten ridiculously expensive since Covid19; high demand & lower supply. I've cut my rentals short because of the cost. I hope it all gets sorted out. But once prices go up, it's rare to have prices go down. read more

Worst Car rental company I have ever used. They are never willing to help, no one ever answers the phone. They stuck me with an absurd damage bill and due to their lack of communication and help, their insurance that covers "everything" was not willing to cover it. Then because of their lack of email response and phone response, It took a lifetime to pay for the damage. $1800 dollars later, for a crack on the bottom of the vehicle roughly an inch long. read more

I didn't know I needed to detail a rental before I returned it. We rented a car for 2 weeks. They apologized to us when we got it for the car not being clean but I was ok with it. I return the car- it had some crumbs on the seat (leather that could have been vacuumed up in about 2 min) and some normal dirt on the mats but nothing excessive. They charged me $50 and claimed the mats had to be thrown out. I know those mats were not so dirty they had to be thrown out. I feel like they tried to add whatever cost they could to the car being that I can't go back and prove that they are lying. I will never rent from here again. read more
