I chose this Avis/Budget simply because its the closest to my home. I booked the rental online, and when I arrived onsite the next day, the car was ready. The Jeep Compass was remarkable new with only 11,000+ miles on it, still with new-car smell, and gas tank was full. On 2-10-2026, I returned it with full gas tank, no damage, and no dirt that a 10-second vacuuming of the driver's floormat couldn't clean. Since I'd heard horror stories of rental agencies adding extra fees for damage, dirt, or less-than-full tank, I was a bit apprehensive that I might get billed extra and thus have to start a grievance process. But nope, the final billing turned out to be exactly what was stated from the start. So I have nothing bad to say about this Avis outlet. They treated me well! read more

This location serves both Avis and budget. After booking an economy vehicle online , got a nice upgrade to a Cadillac instead. Car was clean , full tank of fuel and full of all the confusing array of buttons you get in one of these vehicles. One bad point to the vehicle we got - the window tints in the front windows and back windows were extremely dark and made it difficult at night to see the road when making left turns- we pointed this out on return. At the pickup desk at this location don't expect to see a sharply addressed associate as what you'll get at Enterprise across the street- expect hoodies and casual attire - this location should review this and the message it sends to some of its business users. Also don't expect anyone to walk you to the car - find it yourself in the large carpark and note any issues with the car yourself at pickup. Overall - experience here was 'just ok' read more

Do not rent here. The whole story is below, but the short version is: (1) they are liars; (2) their cars are unsafe and filthy; and (3) they will overcharge you and it will take hours of your life to get any refund. I should've heeded the universe's warning not to rent a car from here. When I got there, a family had rented a mini van. The location had a mini van, but it had a flat tire. So they were offered a Jeep. One caveat....the gas gauge wasn't working. The family was assured that despite the gauge saying "empty," the gas was full. When they asked how they would know when they needed to re-fill, they were told to "watch the mileage." They declined the jeep and said they would come back the next day (in the hopes a new car would show up). Whatever savings you think you are getting will be eaten up trying to get a refund for the amount they will overcharge you. When I went to pick up the car I had reserved, they did not have one. They tried to give me an electric car and then a smaller car. I said no to both, so they offered me a larger SUV. I was told it was dirty on the outside because of the rain, but it had been cleaned inside. First lie. I went out to the car and it was filthy outside. It had also clearly either been hit or had hit something. The damage seemed superficial so I took pictures (no way they were pinning this on me and they didn't even come out to do a walk around with me) and got in the car. It was also filthy inside. Garbage everywhere and smelled like onions. But we were leaving the next morning and they had no other cars so I took it straight to the car wash to try and get it cleaned up and smelling better. On our road trip to So Cal, the first thing I noticed was that the brakes were very very soft. Scary soft. And every time you applied pressure to the brakes, there was a bubbling sound. So not only had they not cleaned the car, they also hadn't checked it for road worthiness. We brought the car back on a Saturday. Unfortunately, we were 3 hours late and they were closed. In accordance with their posted instructions, we wrote the date and time of the return and the return mileage on the contract and put it in the after hours box with the keys. A few days later, I had not received a receipt. So I called the Budget 1-800 number. They said they would send me one. They didn't. So I logged on to Budget.com, got a receipt, and found that they had charged me a late fee and three extra days (Saturday, Sunday AND Monday). I went to the location and was told that the employee who works on weekends is part-time and they couldn't do anything to help me because he was not there. They said I should call the 1-800 number to get a refund. They later called me and told me they had talked to the part time employee and he insisted that the car was not in the lot until Monday, so they would not help me. I told them I had proof that we were not even in town on Monday because after returning the car on Saturday, we flew out of town on Sunday for a family emergency. They told me to call the 1-800 number. I called the -1800 number and was on hold or on the phone with them for an hour and 25 minutes. I was scolded for not calling them immediately. But ultimately they offered me a refund of the 3 extra days, plus 1 day to compensate for the condition of the car. I was told the refund would show up on my card within 3-5 business days. Fast forward to today (7 business days later) and there's no refund. I call the 1-800 number again and am on hold for 20 minutes before I am told that my refund was requested but never approved. I was then told that the location doesn't accept after-hours dropoffs. I explained this was not true as they had a dropbox with instructions that we complied with. I was also told that Saturday and Sunday were not "business days" (even though they are open both days), so that's why they didn't check the car in until Monday. I asked where in my contract it said that the car would be checked in on a Monday if returned on the weekend. I was told "it was the information he was given." 45 minutes later (and me keeping my cool, but ready to fight), I was offered a refund for the three extra days. I asked why I wasn't getting the one day refund for the condition of the car. They begrudgingly said they would honor the refund offered by the agent 7 days ago. I don't for one minute believe that they will do what they have now said twice that they will do. What I do know is that I will never rent from them again. read more

I just had a great experience with a return on a car with Wes White at this Avis location. I rent from here quite often and today, because of traffic and meetings, I was cutting it pretty close to not making the return on time and then having to rent the car for another day. Wes was just wrapping up when I pulled in and was super cool about re-opening the door and letting me complete my rental. And what a great attitude! He was super nice and chill for an end of the week Friday, and I really appreciated his enthusiasm to make sure I had a good experience. One other note, Wes was also the guy that helped me when I rented the car yesterday and made sure that I got the car I needed. Let's talk about that car rental that my family got two weekends ago!! The condition of the car that I had to ride in all week was sub par: - There was garbage from past users still in it. - It was dirty and had a bunch of scuff marks in the back seat (see images). - The car looks as if it was washed by a 6 year old. There are a ton of watermarks and streaks all over the car (no offense to the 6 yr olds out there). Since I technically didn't pick up the car, let's just say that my parents' experience was very much the same as others who rated this location low. Their experience included being mocked and having to come back an hr later for a car that was already sitting in the lot. Just go to a different rental car agency. The "manager" on duty "Alberto" was not able to cancel our contract without charging us $59 for the first day!!!! So GF is in Dallas flying home tomorrow early am (Friday), AVIS has no shuttles or employees prior to 6am! AVIS Recommendation... move to a hotel closer to the airport. This one shocked me. Booked a van for pick up on 28 Aug noon. All the 4 vans they had that day were dirty. Insects sticking to the front bumper. These filthy cars were not acceptable. Booked a reservation for pick up, regular economy car. As soon as the car was driven one light down the car made a huge loud noise and the car had no power to keep going. As stepping on the gas the car had very minimal power to keep going. As the light was green , proceeded to go and at a busy intersection and was almost hit from behind because the car just gave out. Was able to turn around and go about under 10mph and get it back to their parking lot . The car wouldn't go into gear after that. We went back inside to let Avis know what happened with the car . They offered another vehicle but we didn't want to be in a similar situation and this was before they were closing so we didn't want to be responsible for the car. We just canceled the reservation at this point. They decided to charge us $69 or so for canceling. We said hey I mean you guys gave us a car that could've gotten us hit we were shaking and scared it was a scary moment being in a situation like that in a vehicle from a rental company. When we asked to talk to the manager , the girl working called her father the store owner , she said he would like to speak to you. They are a franchise I believe is what she said. For the Friday and weekend that my car was being looked at I needed a rental. I booked online and then called the office to have them pick me up at my office. Which took them forever and they had to call because the guy got lost trying to find my office. Even though we have a giant address sign out front. When I got there I had to go through the paperwork and signing of everything. The rental was out front and we inspected it for any prior damage. I booked a Ford online and drove away in a Nissan instead. I didn't complain. I don't even think they have Fords here. So don't walk in having any expectations. I like AVIS in San Ramon. The first time I rented, they upgraded my car from a compact to an intermediate car. It was a nice and clean car and I liked driving it. Barbara was really nice to talk to and she answered all my questions. I asked her if someone could drive me to my car's repair shop after I return the rental car and Claude, who was really new, drove me there. He was a nice guy too. The second time I rented a car, the car was not cleaned since the cleaning guy was not there that day. Barbara offered to clean the car for me or give me a discount. Had you asked me last week, I would completely agree with all of the 5 star ratings for this local Avis office. I've used them several times and have always had a great experience, clean car, and easy rental process. But that all ended with my last rental. It has been about a year since I needed a local rental for a driving vacation. Walking into the office it seems they now share a space with Budget truck rentals. New desk staff and new car attendant. I had made the reservation several weeks in advance and picked up the car about 15 minutes before the noon time I had indicated on my reservation. First indication this wasn't going to go well was when the person at the desk spent too long looking over his upcoming rentals - apparently doing the math and realizing if everyone showed up on time that they would be short on cars. He commented that he hoped the next pick up was running late as he handed over the keys to the last full sized car in their inventory. The lot attendant handed me a slip of paper and had apparently walked around without me. He did note the scratches on the bumper. So after a brief walk around myself I signed, he walked away, I took photos of all sides (just in case), and hopped in. That is when I noticed the faint smell of smoke. I parked the car to finish my packing at home with the windows open, hoping it would dissipate. But after sitting in the sun and turning on the a/c the smell only got worse. I called back to see if there were any alternatives. Nope. The person on the phone said I should take the car to the Avis in the next town over to exchange. I thought it odd she didn't offer to call ahead and let them know I was coming, so I called Avis' 800 # and the representative confirmed the spot had cars and I would be able to exchange. The new spot had no cars for me either. And, the person at the counter disclosed that she had to send her last few cars over to my original rental location a few hours earlier and said that the original rental location should have known there were no cars left on her lot. Feeling agitated at the wild goose chase to find a non-smoky car, she offered to call a few other Avis locations for me but unfortunately was not successful in finding a replacement car. I was offered the business card of the territory manager, which I took and called on my way to Target to find some Febreeze. Left the manager a message on Friday letting her know my disappointment with the process, the smoky car, and lack of options available and requested a call back. Understanding that I left the message at 3pm on a Friday I did not expect an immediate call back, but I did expect a return call. I dropped off the rental this afternoon - a week later from my pick up date. No phone call yet from the manager. And, it looks like this location is still experiencing a car shortage. I was 2nd in line as the lot attendant handed my keys to the front desk. They processed my return while chatting with the 1st client in line. The desk clerk handed my my checkout paperwork without asking about the rental experience, and at the same time told the 1st client that they just had a rental returned so he car would be ready shortly. I'm guessing she was talking about my smoky car. Doubt they'll have time to wash it, try to continue to deodorize the lingering smoke smell (I took my Febreeze plug in with me), or clean the crumbs out of the backseat left by my son (to the lady renting my car after me ... sorry for the goldfish crackers in the rear seat). So, my 2 star rating is giving consideration for my past great rental experiences at this location. If I had to rate this Avis off of my most recent rental I would be hard pressed to even support 1 star. read more

UNRELIABLE. I made a reservation through the Budget Truck Rental website because their site shows branch hours and inventory availability for all local branches. I selected the location at 2551 San Ramon Valley Blvd and completed my booking. I received a phone call from the aforementioned local branch two days before my moving date. The woman on the line told me they won't have a truck for me and instructed me to call the Budget customer service line. I immediately filed my grievance with Budget. Their corporate inventory manager called me back promptly and assured me that I need not worry. He said he took care of everything with the aforementioned local branch and they will have my truck available for pickup at the correct time as per my reservation. On the day of my move, I called this local branch to let them know that I'm heading over to pickup my truck. The same woman who had called me two days prior answered the phone and told me AGAIN that they do not have the truck I was promised! I called the Inventory Manager (Joe) who promised me two days prior that everything will be taken care of. Joe did not answer so I left him a message. Then, I called Budget's customer service hotline and got hung-up on the first time even though I was very respectful and calm. I called back and asked to speak to the highest available authority. I got a floor Supervisor on the line who had zero capability to help me. I was shocked to find out from this Supervisor that the local branch had canceled my reservation around 4pm one day earlier! I never received any email or phone call about that. All he could do is apologize and assure me that one of the Inventory Managers will call me within 2 hours. That didn't happen either. Nobody called me. Budget Truck Rental left me "high 'n dry" on my moving day after assuring me that they had me covered. Luckily, U-Haul had a smaller truck available for me to rent at the last minute. Lesson learned: I'd rather pay a little more money for guaranteed service and reliability than ever rent from Budget again. Moving can be a frustrating process as it is and UNRELIABLE people like this make it a nightmare! Avoid these people, unless you don't mind added stress in your life. read more

Situation: I rented a full size car one-way to SFO ... simple ... right? Outcome: The franchisee does not like one-way customers. I was told that they ran out of full size cars and was forced int an intermediate. Here's the rub ... I went online and was able to confirm full size availability ... as long as I returned it to this location in 1,2 or 3 days. Their parking lot is filled with full size cars as small SUV!!!! This franchise is disregarding company policy and should be reprimanded from Avis. I rent avis cars for more than 100days/yr ... so I understand that this is just a bad franchisee. I told them I have 4 people with luggages going to airport ... it does not matter ... I was given a mazda 3!!! Note to Yelp readers: The front desk lady (Mimi) is very nice and only wants to help ... you can tell she does not want to make a mistake based on what the owner forces her to do. Unpredictable. Rented 3 Times from them but never again. They charged $84 + $20 odd in taxes for additional insurance that I didn't need. It was their mistake but I had to call the corporate office to get reimbursed. On top of that charged $12.50 in e-tolls that they refused to reimburse. This review is for the Budget Rental Car part of this business, the other side is Avis, as they are owned/operated by the same company. I have used both the past 10 years for work and pleasure, and it seems no matter which "company" I use, there is always an issue. I have been billed an extra day because it took their rep a whole day to check in my vehicle, even though I had dropped it off the night before and used the "early bird/after hours" key drop box. I even had photos and go no where. Another time in the past year, I was billed extra because they claimed I dropped the car off in San Jose, when in fact I dropped off the car in San Ramon. In that instant, the rep said the computer was down and that he would check me in later. Again, tried to get this resolved and they wouldn't make the adjustment. This last time, with Budget, was on 7/11/22. We filled the tank up to full like we always do, but the rep told my husband that it wasn't full and would charge us a full tank. I have photos (date & time stamped) that show the tank was full when we dropped it off on 7/10/22 at 9:42pm. I really try to give them grace, but I am at my limit. I just cancelled my Budget reservation for this coming weekend and am going with Enterprise. I know that no one is perfect, but when there is literally an issue every single time, it is a systemic issue, almost to the point that there is some purposefulness to it. read more

Wow! I have rented many, many times at this location. I have more often than not received dirty cars that I have had to wash myself. I have also been told in the past that a car I ordered was not available, but they have made it right. Today, I received a phone call after hours telling me that they had no car available for me tomorrow. The following comments were made: "What do you expect me to do? It is at the end of the weekend." "Imagine how difficult this is for me. I have no cars." I tried to call back immediately and no answer. I went by the rental office to find out it was already closed. I understand their position, but they were unable to provide me with any answers. I have been a loyal customer and ignored all the complaints from others. BUT, when I went by the rental office, there was an entire row of cars including a small SUV (what I had ordered,) full size cars, a pick up, and several others. Since I had reserved my car over two months in advance, I was not happy. I called the national headquarters, and they were not able to help me except to tell me to try other companies or call back tomorrow to see what may be available. Outcome- I found a larger SUV for only $20.00 more at Alamo. Now I know to try other places. read more

Boycott this place immediately! I would give this place a zero if I could. It's unfortunate because I'm a very loyal Avis customer and have a level of expectation for customer service. Agree with the comment about the dirty cars but if your looking to get screamed on a sat morning and have your safety endangered then go ahead and come here. If you're looking for the typical Avis experience then I suggest going to a different location. I'm a business traveler and go all across the country e.g. Avis preferred and I know the process fairly well. Had a free weekend rental that was used for this reservation. The car wasn't ready when I came to pick it up because they said it had to be cleaned. I asked about getting another vehicle but they didn't have any. Waited about 10 min to find that the car hadn't been cleaned and had bird feces all over it. I asked for a credit to go get a car wash or wash coupons (common practice at other locations) and they couldn't do either. The operating manager then started screaming at me for being rude to his employees and treated them like servants. After 5 min of yelling on his end (mind you I'm a small woman and he is a big guy) I told him we should resolve this and he needed to stop yelling. He told me to get the "hell out of his establishment"and he'd deal with me on Monday. I asked every person I talked to if they felt disrespected and they all unequivocally said no. I called Avis corporate and have a security case against this place. They are sending their regional manager to address the issue. I'll update if they ever make it right.... read more

Typical car rental place. From my experience, I had great customer service and a clean car (cute Volkswagen Beetle)! The only tip I would leave, would be to know how long you'll be renting for as there is a $10 dollar extension fee. These folks do offer overnight drop off, but because they don't process your drop off till the morning after, it's still considered a day and will be charged as so. Plus they're open Sundays. Bonus! I am a long time ENTERPRISE CAR RENTAL customer. I thought I would try AVIS during one of my trips to Denver. The first trip was okay. The customer service at Denver airport was lacking, but they had the vehicle I reserved. And all went well. The second trip was horrific. AVIS customer service did not have a car that I had reserved, for 10 minutes they tried to upgrade me. I was upset because I travel frequently for business, and I request a specific level car for a purpose - to carry clients. AVIS then tried to give me van or an SUV. I explained that I did not want clients crawling in and out of a van, nor an SUV. The people at the Avis desk got upset with me, and after 15 minutes more they pulled a vehicle up to the front door. It was the level I requested - but it was soaking wet, the windows were opened, and there was a smell, like fish and smoke. I thought it would go away. I pulled out - mostly because I was running late, but I felt it best to get away from the people who were obviously upset with me and treating me badly. As the three days progressed, and the car was parked in the sun, the smell got worse. So I would open the windows and air it out 5 - 10 minutes before picking up clients. After the trip, I completed an online survey, explaining how upset I was with the vehicle, the smell was uncalled for - and the service was less than friendly. I also explained how badly I was treated. I do these surveys as a means to helping companies improve and to retain me as a customer. 2 weeks later, I received a bill for $250 for smoke smell in the car. I called customer service to explain all of this, and I asked them to pull my survey, as proof of what I was telling them. They said they have no access to the surveys and could not verify anything. AVIS said there was nothing that they could do for me. I would have preferred to resolve this, but AVIS was not on the same page. I also explained that I am an asthmatic - taking Advair medication on a daily basis. I do not, will not, and cannot smoke. The people at Avis had no ability to understand any of this - and as a result, they would be charging me $250 for smoke smell in the car. I will pay them the $250, but they will they never get another dollar from me or from any of the people in my circles.
