Hot wire deal on a Jeep was reasonable for my 24 hour requirement. Friendly over worked and underpaid team members here do it all and do it well. Thank you and Aloha! See you next time Avis! read more

I would never, ever rent a car from Avis again. Ever. The worst car rental company I've ever done business with. Totally ripped off. Additionally, the Toyota Camry HEV I rented had no electric seats, no lumbar support and the Apple Car device was for shit. Not only were things not explained, such as the cost for driving over the Bay Bridge that connects Oakland to San Francisco but I wasn't able to buy gas in advance. When I returned the car on Sunday I was told Avis would email the e-receipt to me and yet I had to call today (Tuesday September 24, 2024) to get it. The final bill was $150.00 more than quoted. Do yourself a favor... there are a number of other car rental companies, use any of them before renting from Avis. If I could I'd give them no stars. read more

I reserved a traditional gas engine Corolla and when I got to the place they only had an electric plug in and at a higher cost. No explanation, no help. read more

I know car rental companies can get a lot of flack (and I often think they get a bad rap unfairly), but this Avis did not leave a good impression. I needed to rent a car for a few days recently, and this Avis had a decent rate. When I arrived to pickup the car, there was no line, and the registration process went smoothly. The employee working the desk was friendly, and all in all, I was feeling good about the rental process. Then I saw that the assigned car had a structural issue: the right lower part of the car frame was loose. I brought it to the gate attendant's attention, and since it was just loose, I thought it'd be fine. I guess that was an incorrect assumption, as the loose section fell and dragged on the freeway as I headed back home the next day. This car probably shouldn't have been placed back into the rental rotation, but what was really subpar was the customer service as I tried to rectify this problem. Calling the local Avis for help led to a general call center, so there was no way to speak to the local agency and confirm what the trade-in process would be. After a lengthy wait, I was told to just bring the car back, and after jimmying the piece back on to the car, I headed back and hope the piece would stay on. Once I got back, I checked with the employee on duty about how to return it (which required getting someone's attention as there was no one at the desk), and I brought the car to the return area. The person checking the car back in didn't even ask what the problem was when I mentioned that I was trading in the car. I also noticed that the original gate attendant had marked off the pre-existing damage on the wrong side, so I made sure to let the desk employee know where the loose part was (she seemed exasperated with the lack of questioning from the other employee). I got another car (which also had a problem with a loose fender) was able to complete the rental without any mishaps. Well, no mishaps happened until I returned the car and got a fuel charge despite filling up the tank. Trying to rectify the charge took a while as the rental desk was understaffed, and the person fixing the charge needed to do it several times. Shoddy cars, lack of staff, and extra charges means I will not be renting from this place again. read more

Never rent from Avis. Not only was there horrible customer service, surrounding areas are also extremely dangerous. We picked up the rental car and 5 minutes later at a Starbucks, car was broken into. Avis was then extremely unhelpful in getting a new rental. Not a safe area, so read more

Do not do business with Avis!!! The employee said that the company did not have the Explorer I rented online and offered me a Suburban with her "company discount" of only $30/Day as an upgrade. She said that the discount would be applied upon my return. She lied. The contract for an additional fee, even though the contract does not say that, was upheld by the manager. $581 instead of $377. I said, "You guys got me!" The manager said, "Yes. We did. You signed it." After I cursed him out. I wrote this. Careful... They will get you, too. read more

Sign up for Avis Premier and be treated with 5 star service whenever you rent from them! Nice waiting area and your vehicle should be ready for pick up by the time you get to the lounge. One word of advice - don't sign up for add ons without asking how much they are first. I was prompted for shuttle service drop off and agreed to it when told the rental car shuttle only came every 30 minutes, but it was $30 and the rental car shuttle for OAK was there waiting when I dropped the car off. Otherwise, great service with a smile and great vehicle selection! I will be renting again. read more

This AVIS has done pretty well. I travel all over the country and usually use AVIS. But here's the deal. Once you leave the airport you don't stop anywhere within Oakland except your final destination. You're best to get in the freeway and go. Car break ins are crazy here and you are a sitting duck for determined, experienced actors. They're probably armed and you can't be. Because they have tuned their skills to break, snatch and run to under 10 seconds they can get you stopped at a traffic light. You won't have time to put your car in park, unbuckle, get out and try to stop them....you lose. Briefcases, backpacks, suitcases, totes, phones, whatever. Any kind of item is their target. So, AVIS does great, Oakland authorities at controlling crime is an utter failure...assume you are in Mogadishu. read more

First of all Avis rental was not easy to find at the Oakland airport it was clearly on the other side of the airport and the guy who set up the rental made no mention he just said to pick it up at the airport. next, the person helping me when picking up my rental was super rude and she was brazen about it. . The only cool thing was the SUV it was awesome. after I returned the vehicle with gas passed full and no scratch marks I was charged an additional 20$ plus change fee. . My original fee was 385$ for three days no one said anything about an additional fee after you return it nor was it listed on the original rental agreement. When I spoke to an Avis representative all he could say was sorry and he couldn't do anything about it. I know it's not much but when you add up all the cost involved with a rental and tack on an add't fee it does make you wonder why the deceitfulness. read more

Not the largest selection of cars, but they did remember to hold our reservation. When we got to the car, the car lighter thingies werent working. So, my boss goes in to replace the car with, what I would expect to be another crappy Camry. He ends up rolling up with a sick Red Mustang! He turns the key and VROOOOM! the engine makes my heart skip a beat. This car made our trip that much better! read more

Undisclosed charges and didn't provide a rental agreement! Go elsewhere! Prepaid for my rental in full via Avis.com as a Wizard member, then got unexpected charges for taxes and convenience fees after the fact. Know that they do not provide you with a copy of your rental agreement (must be trying to cut costs on paper), then hit you with fees. Called customer service and they were rude and still would not provide a copy of my agreement. Avis, you can't charge fees for things you don't disclose. I gave multiple chances to turn around a horrible customer experience and each representative failed. If you're going all-electronic, the customer's rental agreement should be emailed to them the moment they pick up their rental. read more

I don't know if it is just incompetence or if their staff are just really stupid. I rent here because my company requires it. Rental #1: I filled the tank with gas but was charged $18 for gas anyway - I got in trouble with my company for not filling the tank and had to show them my American Express Statement showing a gas purchase on that day. Rental #2 - they offered to upgrade me at my own expense, I accepted and they were supposed to charge my credit card. They didn't. Got in trouble AGAIN with my company because the full charge for a nicer vehicle appeared on THEIR credit card. Rental #3 - took an upgrade again, this time I was charged $188 to my card for a ONE-DAY rental of the same nicer car that was charged to my company (for the full charge) of $88. I have never experienced such horrid service and inconsistency as I have at Avis. I will NEVER AGAIN upgrade or take anything other than what my company offers and I will be doing my utmost to avoid Oakland. You have LOTS of other choices at Oakland International and if your company will allow you to, GO ELSEWHERE. read more

The car rental fine. This review is about Avis accusing me without any proof that there were stains on the carpet of the rental. This review is of their poor policy and procedures regarding return of the rental. Avis accused me of returning the car dirty- stains on the front floor carpet which required extensive cleaning without any proof. I was notified weeks later by snail mail. They had my phone number, my driver's license, and my credit card number. They could have called, and discussed this with me prior to the event being escalated this far. But instead they charged my credit card without my knowledge an additional $150.00 cleaning fee. Here is my response after multiple calls and emails. Hello, This is not fair. If there was a complaint, then pictures of the stain should have been taken as proof that there was indeed a stain on the carpet. Cameras are everywhere to document this type of proof. You should add this to your car intake procedures I returned the car in good condition. The attendant that received the car did not state there were any issues at the time of receipt. The only proof that you can provide me is that the car was cleaned, and taken out of commission for 12 hours. This is NOT proof or evidence that there was a stain on the carpet. This is proof that you cleaned the car without my acknowledgement. This only tells me that the car was out of commission based on your decision that the stain was caused by my rental. During my rental, there was no spillage and we did not go to any beach. I only used it for 4 days of the week because the week rental was cheaper. I am not satisfied with your response. You did not provide proof of any stain on the carpet. Additionally, I purchased the insurance for the car. An additional cost to me for rental. At the time of this purchase, I was not informed that cleaning fees may still apply. This insurance should have taken care of any damages to the car. Your procedures are unfair to the consumer because it is a "he said' / "she said" type of deal and there is no proof that there is a stain. I was under the assumption that purchasing the insurance will take care of all damages to the car. -Even damages that YOU say I left on the car. I will NOT be renting a car from either Avis or Budget. Note that Avis and Budget are the same company A consumer that will post this response on Social Media publicly. Thank you for your poor response and handling of this dispute. Exasperated consumer against a large corporation. read more

I am a frequent renter of Avis/Budget and today@OAK Avis cust. rep. Faith was the best! She did a nice job handling a big mess that another rep. (Maureen) created and corrected my account from $350.00 to $140.00. Maureen really did not provide the service Preferred/Fast Break customers expect. In another review I will go into details. Thank you Faith! read more

They get 2 stars for being consistent. I literally have to add 1 hour to my travel day whenever I am going to Oakland simply because of the line at the Avis counter. It's terrible. If it were occasional then I'd be more forgiving but this is ALL the time. Line with at least 6-7 people ahead of me and 1 person working the counter. You would think they could add more staff since it's a busy airport. Oh, and there's no kiosk where you can just check in yourself. You have to speak to an agent. Awful. read more

match my Emerald Rewards Elite Membership to Avis Presidential. So I did. I made a reservation three weeks in advance. I turned in my clean Camry at National and talked to the Preferred Desk at Avis around 6 pm. The first car they put me in was a VW Passat, and it was keyed down the side and the center console was broken and falling apart. I didn't even turn the car on, I just went back in and told the nice lady at the desk. She came out and looked at the damage which was weird, it was the first car you could see through the window of the booth. I said I am not getting charged for this. She gives me a white base Camry as a replacement. I get the keys and find the car. Stains on every. single. seat. Smelled like body odor and Smoke inside with whiffs of food. Cannot see through the windshield its so dirty. I drove it right out the gate and turned around and drove back in the return. I accidentally left my badge in the center console when I returned it, no biggie I'll just go grab it, its only been couple of min. When I go right back the car disappeared. I ask the attendant and she doesn't know were it is. The lot porter didn't know. They ask for my paperwork and disappear somewhere to find it. Meanwhile I get into a Kia Optima that is poorly maintained, smells like smoke and felt old and worn out. I am standing on the lot like it should only be a few min (it was just here) which turned into one hour turned into two hours, then three. hours. later. around 9 pm the car comes back with another lot porter. I grab my badge and go to my optima and leave even though I was not happy with it, I was overcooked well done dealing with Avis at that point. The front desk lady was nice and helpful, but their cars are dirty, poorly maintained, and broken. The lot was FULL of cars probably 200 cars and she said she had no cars available but the 3 junk dirty cars they offered me. How can I have a Presidential club reservation three weeks back and have three junk cars in a row? So much for being a Presidential Avis Club member. IF you are still reading this make a hard beeline for National and skip the long waiting for subpar equipment that probably is not safe for you and your family. If you sign up for National Emerald Club app, you can rent the car on your phone and just walk up and pick your car on the lot and drive away. No line. No waiting. Clean well maintained cars. What more can you ask for. When you get elite status, your rentals are cheaper than Avis or Budget or Enterprise. Avis gets two stars only for the nice ladies that work there. read more

Bad service. Not only did I wait in line for 45 mins, but our car that we requested wasn't available. Then when they finally gave us a car we couldn't leave because the lady had given us the wrong car. Several hours of wasted time. read more

Enterprise processed an entire snaking queue of people, with fewer representatives, than the time it took for Avis to process three. I would avoid, unless you want to spend a half hour waiting for three representative to process three people. Due to very poor service at Payless rental, I walked up to the Avis car rental desk and was able to rent a car within 5 min. The speed of service was very much appreciated. The car was clean and did not smell of smoke like so many do despite the smoke free policies. In addition, I returned the car 30 min. after it was due in order not to be charged an entire extra day and the rep at the front desk along with the manager agreed not to charge me. read more
