One of the easier car rental experiences I've had recently. Friendly transport from port and line moved quickly.

Ordered a Wrangler and got a Bronco. Their website says "or equivalent" in an obvious attempt to scam people.

I reserved (and paid for) a "standard premium SUV" for a work event. There are multiple price tiers, and I paid for the most expensive tier because I specifically needed an SUV. I also paid for uber valet service to deliver the vehicle to my home. They arrive in a Toyota Corolla, which was unusable to me. I needed an SUV. I spent the entire morning being sent in circles by Avis, only to never receive the vehicle I paid for. I was told over the phone that I'd receive a refund within 48 hours. Never happened. Ultimately I received the refund 2 weeks after I opened multiple online tickets and a credit card dispute. An exorbitant amount of wasted time and energy just to get my money back. This company and location is a scam. read more

This place has moved to 309 23rd St Suite 100 A, Miami Beach, FL 33139 which is only a block away from the original location. The location for me was super convenient and for a hole in the wall it seemed as nice as a rental place needs to be. For one person in front of me (with only one person servicing) the wait seemed longer than it should have been. For this time all I needed was a car for the day. Nothing special. No size constraints. Just four wheels and in working condition. (I am in the Avis Chairman's Club so one would think this is not much to ask for) When it was delivered from who knows where they keep them it seemed nice on the outside. It was a Ford Edge if I am remembering correctly so, so far so good. Getting inside, however, this was the dirtiest rental I have ever had in my entire life. There was literally crumbs on the passenger seat I needed to dust off before someone sat there! Well, if that wasn't enough the cup holders looked like you wouldn't want to even put your keys down there, but the topper was that the car itself smelled strongly of smoke. WTF? I had zero time to argue about it and one person asked later if I complained (and as least told them about the condition) so I did not get charged. The only thing I replied with was that I thought I could return the car on fire, and they wouldn't care. read more

Me and my 5 person family had reserved as Chevy about 3-4 months prior to coming to Miami, we had planned it all out meticulously. As I walk into the building I'm met with only one person working the counter, a mold growing on the ceilings but I put that past me. I went to the counter I told them about my reservation and was told that they did not have it even though I gave them months notice!!! They give me a 12 person van and then because I came 45 minutes early to pick up the car they try and charge me for two days instead of one! read more

Not good at all! Horrible service, unprofessional, employee super rude. We made a reservation one day before picking up the car and when we arrive at the place there was no car available. it's a shame for a big company as Avis. One of the explanations is that it happens all the time. :-( read more

Very disappointing when you arrive to this location to find a line going out the door and only one person working at the counter. I use Avis for all my business travel and it wasn't until today that I realized that much like hotels each one does not offer the same level of service. Waited more than 50 minutes for them to give me my car that's only 5 blocks away. Reservations was for 8am and I got my car at 9am. They didn't even do anything to make up for this. I overheard the guy say give them free gas or something and the lady said she never heard it. read more

They're very nice BUT BE AWARE if you use a debit card they "run your credit report" I don't know how because no one provided their social to them but apparently that is their policy. They are fairly cheap and the vehicle was clean. Overall I will use them again if I come back to Miami Beach! I'll just use a credit card ! read more

Very annoyed when we walked in her Sunday morning and the clients are almost going out the door. One guy working, this is South Beach Miami I am sure its like this every weekend! The more we stood in line the more I seen and heard from the rep and he was trying as hard as he could to get everyone moved thru quickly. He has worked here for years and seems to be fed up himself. Corporate headquarters should take note and do something to help out this employee and location better assist their customers! Be aware on peak times it will be a good wait to get your vehicle unless Avis makes some changes and sends in help! read more

We booked a car for just our last day in Miami with a 9am Sunday pick up time. We walked to the office from our hotel, only about 4 blocks. When we arrived, we found about 8 people waiting in line ahead of us and only 1 gentlemen working. We waited a total of 20 minutes to get our car which wasn't too bad but there needs to be 2 people working to handle the amount of clients coming in to rent cars and/or returning cars. The guy working had a great sense of humor and was working as fast as he could alone. When it was our turn, he found our reservation, went over the details and we were on our way within 5 minutes. The Jeep Renegade was clean and served it's purpose for the day. read more

Aweful location, do not recommend. They did not have any cars available but we booked online days in advance. They said come back in 1 hour 30 mins but it wasn't clear if they would have cars then. The woman Carmen, said she was the manager, but it didn't seem like it. She showed me a drawer without keys and said sorry no cars. However behind the building there were. After some pushing and requesting something be done, magically a set of keys arrive. She told me to pay 20 more for it because it wasn't the category I paid for. I said no, and got the car. The screen was damaged and they didnt want to note it. I told them they had to, and they scribbled something on my paper. I asked them to go see it themselves and they didn't want to. Renting from Avis was my first car rental experience and it wasn't that great. Service was pretty rude. I can only imagine what happens when those employees deal with foreign people. We had gotten a pretty solid deal through priceline for a 5 day trip down to the keys. The employee did not do a walk through of the vehicle with me, he literally pulled it up and walked back inside. I'm not an idiot, and did a thorough check for any dings or scratches that might screw me over upon return. Luckily, there was nothing visible. The car did the trick and we were able to return it at the airport for no additional charge. I chose to do the EZ Pass for the tolls. My total charges for that was $26.64. Obviously, make sure to fill up the car before you return it and keep a copy of the receipt for gas, just in case they try to dispute anything. Almost a month after returning the vehicle, I was charged $75 and another charge for the same amount as the tolls. After speaking with Avis, I come to find out that it's because there was some sand on the driver and passenger side mats. Something that I didn't think was a big deal, cost me a chunk of change. We returned the vehicle super clean, but I bet had I just shaken out the mats...I wouldn't have been charged. They told me they had no record of a double charge for the tolls, so I just disputed the other charge. Not a fun use of my time. ALSO, when you're returning a vehicle to MIA, they claim that there's a free shuttle to take you from the rental return area to departing flights. We seriously waited about 25 minutes while all of the other rental car shuttles came by. I had to finally call an Uber, so we wouldn't miss our flight! What a joke. I've now leaned to rent from the local car rental companies in Miami. I heard there's much better customer service. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars. Came here today with a confirmed car rental and waited by reception for over an hour as people came in and out. The employee working seemed more concerned with helping a friend who strolled in without a reservation and got the last mid-size car than helping the customers, all of whom had reservations! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION! My husband and myself went to South Beach Miami for our 6th wedding anniversary. We booked BOTH of our reservations for convertible mustangs with Costco Travel/AVIS Car Rental one month prior to our arrival and departure. Our arrival return was dropped off at this location and our return vehicle was scheduled for pick up at this location. With that being said, here is why I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION!!!! On February 19, 2020, we picked our mustang from Ft. Myers airport and drove to South Beach. When we picked it up our convertible at the airport, it was filthy. I mean bird poop all over it, pop bottles under the seats and crumbs inside. We returned the Mustang at this location and explained what had taken place - Sam even went outside and agreed that the car was filthy. We asked Sam (the owner) if he could give us an adjustment to our rental and he said "there is nothing we can do" - which was not true according to Avis Corporate's Supervisor. That being said; on February 24th, we were scheduled to pick up our 2nd rental of a Mustang convertible to continue our adventure in Florida. The morning of February 24th, I called at approx. 9:45am to see if we could by any chance do an early pick up. A gentleman by the name of Howard said that the vehicle would not be in until closer to our original pick up time of 12:00pm (noon). I asked Howard if our reservation of a Mustang Convertible was 150% confirmed and that would for sure be the vehicle we would be receiving. Howard confirmed. At approx. 11:50am, my husband and I arrived at this location to pick up our vehicle to only be told by Howard and the owner Sam that the airport did NOT send us a Mustang; that we were sent a Black Camero hard top. We explained this was completely unacceptable. This was more of an experience and fun in the sun for me and my husband and it was completely ruined because of this location. Sam knew on the 19th we would be picking up a convertible on the 24th and also the morning of. With everything said above, this location should have confirmed and made sure we received what we reserved OR any other type of a convertible. Sam gave us a discount and a free tank of gas, but that does not make up for the memories that were missed. Due to this situation and the length of time it took dealing with this, my husband and I missed out on a few more things we wanted to do before we had to leave Miami at a certain time to get back to the other side of the State for my Grandmothers surprise 80th birthday celebration. Also, at the time we were in this location for our second pick up, there were a few other people that 1. never received their vehicle. 2. the wrong or a downgraded vehicle was sent to them, like what happened to us. 3. Their car they were picking up was filthy as well. As stated, I highly recommend you do not rent from AVIS on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. The disrespect, unprofessionalism and lack of customer service was horrendous. read more

Terrible company for international car rental. They do not honor the terms of their own contract and reservations confirmation. I made reservations months in advance for a rental in Milan from them, and they changed the terms of contract a week before my trip, the same price but a compact electric car instead a full size 5 passenger car for the same contract price. Talk with multiple managers in U.S. without any sucess to make them honor the reservations I made months ago. read more

It was the worst rental place ever, I rented a car for a total of 82 dollars and end up paying a bill of 250 (they charged an extra day just because of a 2 hours delay, and charged many abusive fees) plus my friend's camera that he forgot inside the car was STOLEN, and the employees made no effort to help look for it, and could care less! This Avis employee came outside as we were trying to park our car in the spot his manager had shown us. He immediately started yelling at us to move the car to another spot. He said we would be blocking him. He yelled, cussed, using the 'f' word repeatedly. This was the worst customer experience I have ever encountered and will never use Avis again. I came here to get my rental because it was close to the hotel I was staying at. I was given a downgraded vehicle with barely any fuel in the tank. The vehicle was not clean inside or out. With no other vehicle available I had to take what was given to me. When returning the vehicle I knew I would not be able to make the 4pm drop off time that I was scheduled for. I called customer service and they assured me that I would be able to do a late drop off with no extra charges. I showed up at 7pm when the store closed at 6pm. There was no after hours drop off so I had to keep the vehicle another night. Total cost was about $40 extra for parking the vehicle and extra charges for being 1 hour late. When I dropped off the vehicle the Avis representative said there was nothing he could and he really could care less. This place is a horrible establishment with horrible service. I will not rent with Avis again. read more

This deserve 0 stars. We reserved our cars on 19. March and today (30. March) we went here to Avis with reservation confirmation and we have been waiting 2 hours and our cars were not ready. Even with the reservation we had problems getting the cars. At the end we didn't take the cars and we immediately requested FULL REFUND! The guy at front desk was okay (change the job cause you deserve better). So unorganized, they just don't give a f**k, pardon my words. I would not and will not ever reserve at AVIS again. Had a prepaid rental car that had a scheduled pick up at 6pm on 2 Oct 17. I arrived at 6:03pm because of rain traffic on Miami Beach and the attendant refused to let me in and argued with me that I was late and that he closed at 6pm. He saw it was pouring outside and he had a customer inside already. The location opens at 8am and I have to depart at 7am. In the amount of time he argued with me, he could have printed and signed the contract. Horrible customer service! read more

This is a small garage/ rental space. The staff doesn't really work with you they input info in the computer and goive you a key. This was the first time I had my credit checked to get a car; I usually just swipe my card and go because, I have the funds for a car. If your credit is not up to par you get no car! Oh and don't be even a minute late or you get charged for another day!! read more

Maybe it's me,but I think this is a great place to rent a really nice car from. I have been renting from Avis off & on for about 3 years now. Especially when I fly to my home state needing a car to get around or while on a business trip. Plus I know how to work their coupons & promo codes like a pimp on hooker to get his $$$$. Perfect example was this pass Memorial Day Weekend. I first reserved a compact car for just 3 days(FRI night-MON morning) at a cost of $236.00 w/o taxes & fees. Then my Jedi capabilities kicked in telling me that I could get a better deal if I just worked it. So I extended my dates from 3 to 7, moved up to the intermediate size car, then used both a coupon and promo code during my booking. Long story short, my final cost when I checked out was $138.00 including taxes and fees. Now this South Beach location is the only one that I have been using when I'm in the city, any other time I use the airport locations. The staff is always polite & fast, having lived in NYC for a few years I have a certain affection for this type of service. I want to get in & out in record time without anyone trying to up sell me or ask me 3 million times if I want the extra insurance coverage. lol All I know is that if they stay open and the coupons & promo codes keep working I will be back to this location a few more time before the year is out. Although the attendant was working as fast as she could, there was definitely a bit of a language barrier as she spoke rather quickly and with an accent. She mumbled something along the lines of "score credit...debit card" and slid my card. I didn't understand what she was saying. I thought she said "do you want the store to charge credit or debit". Then she said my card didn't go through and to give her another one. I was confused as to what was going on. We then clarified that she said she is going to check my CREDIT SCORE with my debit card. Now either I haven't been paying attention from all my years of renting cars or this is a new thing, but I have never had my credit score checked while renting a car. Anyway I was annoyed cuz if the unnecessary inquiries on my credit which I try hard to protect, as we all do with our good credit. More to say, but I am at the movies now and it started. Under all circumstances, don't rent a car here. We had a 9am reservation, and when I went to pick up the car, they just... Didn't have cars? They said we should come back at noon, and there probably would be cars then. That's not exactly how this transaction is supposed to work, but they swore there was nothing else they could do. I walked out, and called Avis Corporate. They immediately said "Oh yeah, no problem. We'll pay for you to take an Uber to Miami airport, you can pick up your car there in 15 minutes." We did that, and it was painless. This, of course, should have been what we were told at the Miami Beach location. But no one there seemed interested in actually helping out or solving any problems. Based on other Yelp reviews, it seems like Avis should shut down this location, or figure out how to make it actually operate correctly. read more

We reserved a vehicle and when we got to the location we where told they did not have the vehicle and that if we wanted we could pay more for the inconvenience or not rent a vehicle at all. Worst customer service and did not try to help at all. No name tags either so was not able to get any names nor able to get a corporate number. They are very misleading. We asked the guy at the front desk how much it would cost to rent a car and he said $65 for 1 day. When we came back to drop the car off they gave us a receipt billing us over $81! They told us that the car had unlimited miles but when we dropped it off they charged extra because we drove 70 miles! It said on the receipt over 75 miles you would get charged and we didn't even exceed it. They are complete hypocrites. Everything they told us came out different on the receipt. Trust me don't rent a car there it would be a big mistake. They did not even explain the extra charges. read more

The location of this Avis is why I rent here quite frequently. Like the other reviewer said, you really have to watch out for fees and add ins here. Like at other rental places, they ask you if you want a (for example) Camry or a Taurus? It's great they give you choices, however they usually give you the choice of two different car classes without you even realizing it, knowing you will obviously choose the nicer of the two, then they charge you for the next car class up. They are also really bad about cleaning their cars in between customers. I've definitely gotten a pretty dirty car before and felt the need to wipe it down myself. read more

We made a reservation and she said "I have no cars" and we simply asked "if there aren't any cars how were we able to make a reservation" she rudely told us to call customer service. Never again. Wow, what a TERRIBLE experience we had! The last time I was in Miami, I rented a car (from a different rental place) and it went so smoothly- this time, yikes! First of all, I tried to reserve online and they asked for my credit card ahead of time. Then, I called, and the guy could not give me a straight price. It kept changing! When we finally agreed upon a price and pickup time, I arrived and there was an hour wait. Every single person ahead of us had a hard time- their car wasn't ready, the reservation wasn't showing up, overcharging... It was a complete mess. At one point, there was a father and his twelve year old ahead of us. They asked the woman what cars they had available and she said the twelve year old could pick "whatever car" he wanted. Well guess which car he picked...the mustang that my friends and I had reserved! The final kicker was when we were waiting on line, part of the ceiling in the building literally fell onto the floor. That's when we bounced out of there. What a waste of time... this place should be SHUT down. read more

Our worst rental experience ever (also). We booked a long one-way rental (71 days) long before arrival and it was all pre-paid and locked away. On arriving to collect the car, the woman at the counter was quite rude and abrupt. Did the paperwork, handed over the keys and said "the car's in B2". No damage check, no general condition check. The car had not been cleaned at all well, the passenger seat was covered in (dog?) hair, the dash had dirty hand /paw marks all over, I could go on. But most importantly, when we asked about tollways she just said you drive through and the charge will be added to your bill, plus Avis' charge on top. At the first tollway (fortunately with a cash alternative) it became clear that the car didn't have an e-tag. (hey, we're new to tollways). As a result, our routes in Florida were seriously compromised as SunState(?) no longer accept cash payment, it's all e-tag or no go. A few days later, the dash displayed "MAINT REQD". Brilliant, for a car scheduled to be in our hands for ten weeks! In Ft Myers we went to the airport Avis depot and were fortunately able to exchange the vehicle for one with an e-tag. Unfortunately, in the pressure-cooker transfer of our travel stuff between cars some important paperwork was overlooked in a small under-dash compartment. Despite ringing their "lost and found" number (recorded service) later that same day to report this, nothing more has been heard. If the cleaning in Ft Myers is anything like Collins Ave Miami Beach, the car will see more users before one of THEM discovers it. After a number of previous happy rental experiences with Avis in several countries, this was our worst ever experience with them, and enough to make us rethink plans to use them on future occasions. They get one star from us only because we can't give zero. read more

ZERO stars is what this location deserves. Agent named Carmen was the WORST. She was on her personal cell phone despite having a line of waiting customers out the door. She was rude, very unprofessional and with an attitude. This is not someone who should be behind a desk assisting customers. She and her male counterpart acted as if they were doing the waiting customers a favor. This is unacceptable under any circumstances. As a preferred Avis member I was extremely disappointed with the lack of service and treatment. I have also filed a corporate complaint. read more
