The rental car counter was inside the airport just next to the baggage claim area. I arrived about an hour earlier than the time that I reserved for an economy car, but the lady at the desk was able to give me the car since it was already available. I was given a Toyota Yaris. When she gave me the keys she told me that they were aware of the door dings on the right side of the car. She told me to come back before driving off if I see any other dents or damage. The rental cars were in the parking lot just outside. I didn't find any additional damages so off I go. I took the car out to Jackson and back. The car was pretty new with about 6k miles on it, but it wasn't a very good car. It had bad handling and had no power whatsoever going up 5% let alone 10% grade. I was traveling solo, so if you have a full car and traveling with a lot of luggage, you might want to get something bigger. As for dropping off the car, I was taking an early morning flight out, so I noted the mileage and the fuel level before dropping the keys in the drop box at the rental counter. read more

Wow. This HAD been the best and easiest car rental experience I've had to date, but then they have to go and louse that up. I'll never rent from Avis again. They gave us a new Kia Sorrento with only 1800 miles on it. Great! New car, don't have to worry about bald tires, transmission issues, or the like. We check the car over, no damage whatsoever, looks new. Cool, we get in the car and head on our way. No issues on the road whatsoever. We turn the car back in 5 days later with a full tank. I was a little uneasy that there is no one in the lot to check you back in, you have to leave the car in the lot and drop the keys at the desk. This is how they get you. I turned the keys in, showed her a photo of the full tank on the dash and the mileage. We think we're all good to go. A month later I get a letter in the mail telling me they're charging me $679 for glass damage. WHAT?? There wasn't ANY damage on this car when we picked it up, nor when we turned it back in! Not a chip, speck, ANYTHING wrong with it. I've had trips where we had scares that a rock was going to cause damage in the windshield and didn't, but we had nothing like that this time whatsoever. Absolute highway robbery that they have you just leave the vehicle in the lot while you're trying to catch a flight without anyone out there to check the car for you and note damage there with you standing there. Nope, they absolutely take advantage of the fact that you have to leave the car so they will just add whatever charge they feel like on your account to steal your money. I held up my end of the contract and they tried to swindle me on theirs. Upon calling customer service the woman admitted there was a discrepancy in the mileage in that the desk didn't enter the required information into the system when we turned the car in so the charge is not valid. Damn right because they couldn't prove that any kind of damage happened on my rental if the mileage doesn't match up. If there was any damage to the vehicle in that time period at all, I'll bet the people who took the car after us caused the damage and Avis tried to pin it on my rental. Nope not this time. Nice try crooks but now I'll never rent through Avis at any airport again, and especially not in Idaho Falls. Absolute fraud and stealing is going on there. Never again. Still waiting for my refund, by the way. If it doesn't come through I'll be disputing with my credit card company now that Avis has admitted they can't match the mileage to my rental. The car rental is okay just like other Avis location. However, when I return my car and print me my receipt, they were still using a very old dot matrix printer that is not readable at all. That unreadable receipt claimed that I did not return the car with full tank of fuel. I have to go through customer service and waste a lot of time to get my fuel charge waived. I have been a preferred AVIS customer for quite some time. In addition when given and option by my company I select AVIS. After this experience and talking to colleagues that have rented from Hertz, Enterprise, and Budget I will no longer rent vehicles from AVIS. See below. I rented a full size car and AVIS gave me one that pulls to the right, is dented and scratched up, and sits almost to the ground. After seeing the car, I went inside the terminal and asked the AVIS representative at the desk for a replacement full size vehicle because it was not to AVIS standards and I am and older man and I can't sit in a car that is so low to the ground. The AVIS young girl said that they could not give me a replacement full size vehicle so I asked for a SUV. The young girl said that they did not have any additional vehicles on the lot and that I would HAVE to take the vehicle she gave me. She gave me no other options even though there were multiple vehicles on the lot. As a result, I called the national AVIS customer service phone number on my AVIS app. I explained the situation to the AVIS national customer service representative. He said that there wasn't anything he could do and that I could file a complaint AFTER the rental. I explained that his statement did not make any sense when I haven't even left the airport. AVIS has failed on a local and national level for rental vehicles and especially customer service. I know that companies have issues at times but when they don't offer the customer any options on a local and national level is an indication that the company is losing its standards for its customers. It is very sad to see that AVIS has fallen so far in a short amount of time. However, it is great to have other options, such as Hertz, Budget, and Enterprise in the market. Very shady... It's clear I'm not the only person who would advocate avoiding doing business here. They are very deceitful and will over charge wherever they can. Just google Avis over charged me and you'll find an overwhelming number of people being screwed over by Avis. We recently got a car for my parents and my dad was talked into getting their additional liability coverage even though he was already covered through his own insurance and through the card that was used for the rental. This was't the issue though as that was my fathers fault for not knowing. The issue came with the bill when it was apparent that they not only charged for the liability insurance but also road side assistance and loss damage waiver. This ended up being $783. Who would pay that much for insurance on a vehicle you only will have temporarily. That is almost as much as they pay to insure their two vehicles for the entire year. No one in their right mind would agree to that. Also don't try to work with their customer service as they will just tell you too bad and never even open up a case for you. It takes a lot for me to write a bad review for a company but this put me over the edge. What a JOKE! read more

Not only did they not help, but when I asked follow up questions about what could be done, they refused to answer - wouldn't even tell me how many reservations were ahead of me. BEWARE!!! We rented three cars. For three days. They did not tell us about a mileage limit. We drove through yellowstone for two days. We returned the three cars. The next day they charged one of our cards $47, one $200, the third card none. When called they said one of the cars drove 1500 miles (impossible), the other car 650 miles, the third car under 400 miles. We all followed each other everywhere. With no proof we are out of luck. First, let me tell you, my review is based off a very brief interaction with an associate at Avis/National located in the Idaho Falls airport. I did not rent a car from them, nor will I ever! I approached the counter asking about another rental company, I had a reservation but there was no employee and I was just curious if the had seen anyone. The Avis/National employee was beyond rude! She snapped at me wanting to know when I booked the reservation, then snapped again wanting to know what time of the day I booked? As I stood at the neighboring counter this woman had the audacity to criticize to the airport janitor the fact that I had an early morning rental and how she just hates those! Beware of doing business here as the customer service is horrid. I could only imagine what she says about customers who need more help than a simple answer to have you seen anyone next door yet this morning question. Conveniently located inside the IDA airport. This was a bonus as I have been burned before. A delayed flight leading to missed reservation in town. Then having to scramble to find something in the immediate area. Not so on my most recent travel! Well....my flight was again....delayed, BUT Avis was open when I got there. Thank you! The service going checking out was outstanding! Super friendly service, happy conversation which lead to an upgrade and then out the door to my sled. The vehicle was conveniently located right outside the door leading to the rental car lot. Approximately two days later I returned. This time it was all business. I parked in the shared rental lot. With no direction given, I made my way to the counter. No one was there to greet me. There was only a drop box with instructions. Milage? Damn! I made my way back outside with two bags in tow to retrieve the information. My bad. When I returned, there was two ladies in the booth. Not the same level of customer service when I picked up the vehicle. Just a brief, sterile exchange. Could have been 5 stars. But no matter, when I am up in this neck of the woods again and in need of a rental, Avis will be the first one I check. read more

Awful service - employee not wearing masks as they fogged up their glasses. My son was in the ICU in the hospital. I needed to extend my rental car past 30 days. They made me leave my sons bedside to drive to the airport to extend the rental because they couldn't do it on the computer it was above their skill set. When I got there the employee was not wearing a mask. I asked her to put the mask on because I didn't want to bring the germs back to my son in the ICU. Stephanie proceeded to spray her side of the counter with some cleaner stating that would take care of any germs. When I first got the car the battery died I called for roadside assistance and subsequently got a bill for $218. When I called for roadside assistance I told them I had AAA. They assured me That roadside assistance would take care of the matter. It took five minutes to jump the battery and now I am on the hook for that money. My main priority is keeping my son alive. Avis's Main Priority is making the customers life as difficult as possible. read more

This place is a joke. They don't take cash, or debit cards. They only take "major credit cards" not every person has a CREDIT card. They won't even let you use the credit option with your debit card. And once you reserve a vehicle online they TAKE YOUR MONEY OUT OF YOUR ACCOUNT but you can't get the car. This place is a serious joke. read more
