I booked a reservation through Costco for Avis Collierville. When I got there they told me the only car they had was a higher class and I would have to pay extra. I have been renting cars for a long time and this has never been the case. Once a reservation is excepted with a company (and I pre paid before I got there) if that company doesn't have what you reserved the price increase is theirs, because they accepted the reservation. At that point it should not be on the customer, and it has never been any other time I've rented a car. That is a Bait and Switch and I don't know how they can get away with that. I would recommend never using this company. If you making a reservation and have an agreed upon price it is out of the customers hands whether they have it available. I reserved a 12 passenger van 1 year before the date I needed it. I checked in every 3 months to make sure all was good. I spoke with manager/owner Errol Witt and his mom who works there. Both confirmed my reservation was still secure. I week prior to leaving for vacation, Errol Witt claimed that I called and canceled my reservation WHICH WAS A LIE. I had paid for an Airbnb and had no reason to cancel. He is extremely unprofessional, rule and incompetent. He even admitted that many customers complain. THIS LOCATION DESERVES TO BE CLOSED. Enterprise right next door is horrible - never have cars, takes an hour to get in an out. I worked with Erroll and he is extremely helpful, I was in and out in 5 minutes this morning. The Collierville TN Avis location is very poorly run and managed. Have used this location a number of times but never again.No regard for customer service. Not uncommon for sign on door with door locked for 45 minutes and will not answer phone and numerous other issues. . Up charges without informing customer. Be very careful before signing agreement to make certain everything is correct. Unbelievable the experiences with this particular location and finally had enough. Cannot believe the corporate management has not done something about complaints with this location. Other locations or airport not a problem but Collierville, NO WAY!!! read more

worst ever experience at Poplar Collierville locations. Unprofessional service, did not rent the car. My card was charge over $500. I am having a hard time getting my refund. Which my card never should have been ran through. I have made many calls. I first was told the amount was placed on hold. I call my bank and was told it was not hold. The card was ran for that amount. It was charge when I did not rent the car. I have talk with a couple of people with NO RESULT, as of yet Also, I had my 3 year old Great grandson will me that had to use the restroom. He was not allow to to use the restroom. So that he would not wet his pants. I had to take him outside to a bush I EMBRASSED and he was very embarrassed. He could not understand why he had to go outside. read more

DO NOT USE THIS AVIS LOCATION! PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS! If I could give 0 stars, I would. This is an Avis franchise and the owner is a dishonest, reprehensible man that only cares about money and acts like he does not represent Avis. Like many customers who have commented Google, I reserved a standard SUV on Avis.com and prepaid for it. When I got there, I was told, by the owner, that they did not have my vehicle and I had to take a minivan one level up and pay over $120 plus tax and fees for it. I argued that I shouldn't have to pay extra because I had a reservation. The owner stated multiple times that I "had a reservation from Avis" not from him. He insisted many times that I had to pay extra to get this vehicle. If I didn't like it, I could go to Enterprise. Classic bait and switch and he had me, I had to have a vehicle. Turns out, he lied and marked that I wanted Loss Damage Waiver on my receipt for $35 per day which I (admittedly) missed. He never once mentioned this, only that the extra cost was for an upgraded vehicle. He would not ever state that I had a reservation with him, only with Avis and he wasn't Avis. Avis needs to trim dishonest franchise owners from their system. read more

Reserved a "standard SUV" through Costco it was an Outlander Sport. I had a pickup time for noon. I was called by the rental company and informed that they closed at noon so I went early to pick it up. I've done this before with Enterprise (I picked up the car a day early because they wanted to get ahead of their "rush") and they credited be for the additional time. THE MANAGER ASKED US IF WE WANTED ANY ADDITIONAL INSURANCE, WE VERBALLY DECLINED all insurance and she told us where to initial. My husband signed and then when I looked at the total on the paperwork it was different from what it was through Costco. I went back in and the manager said it was because we picked it up early and it would adjust if we just returned it at or before the time we picked up. We failed to notice (until we returned the car a DAY early) and the total was still MORE than it was supposed to be that the manager had added $7.00 a day insurance. OVER 12 DAYS THAT WAS $84 THAT WAS STOLLEN FROM ME! Yes, it was on us to read the contract but it was printed out on a dot printed and the writing is so light it was hard to decipher. I will definitely be paying better attention next time. I'm sure they get "kickbacks" for pushing additional insurance. Besides being a thief, she couldn't even stand up to talk to us which was annoying because the was behind Plexiglas, wearing a mask and it was hard to hear her. She didn't really seem like customer service was her calling. The young, boy that showed us to the SUV was very pleasant. Learn from my stupidity and pay REAL close attention to the right side of the contract where the extra insurance is listed. read more

I thought I'd be fine and they'd actually have a car for me to pick up today. But just like the other reviewers, I got a call day of, with my prepaid rental from days ago, telling me they have no cars and could not fulfill my rental. Thankfully by calling Avis they were able to switch my rental to the airport instead. But that's not something this location did, something customer service did for me. If I could give zero out of 5 stars I would. Stay away, please! Honestly don't know why they're here with all these negative reviews. They should just close the location entirely rather than taking folks money but not being able to do service. read more

Terrible customer service. I will never rent from this location again. I arrived 10 minutes prior to my scheduled pick up time. The owner/manager was very rude and stated I owed an additional $50 for picking up the car 10 minutes early. I did not agree with her stipulations so I had to wait and also call Avis customer service. Avis apologized and stated she wasn't an Avis employee but an independent contractor... Avis did give me a credit for the unfortunate incident but it was the worst rental car experience I've ever had. read more

Since my wife and I own a service business, I do my very best to give people the benefit of a doubt when it comes to customer service. We can all have a bad day and make a mistake. However, after reading the other reviews (including those you can see by clicking the "not recommended" reviews button below) I believe my experience is more the norm than just a bad day or a mistake. The location manager told me that it was my fault for not knowing that the cost of my rental was going to be $30 more for four days (I returned it early) than it would have been if I went ahead and kept the car for a whole week. And, I shouldn't have expected her to tell me it would be higher before she closed the rental. I should have known better than to rent from them. Enterprise is always busy because they do a much better job of customer service. It's an effort for the manager at Avis to get up out of her chair, and the Enterprise staff stands behind the counter ready to help you. I had to go get the car and bring it close to the door for her to even come out and check it when I picked it up. By the way, she was so busy, sitting there with no phone ringing and no other customer there, she didn't even care to walk around the car with me to check for damage when I returned it. I reserved a rental and paid for it almost a month prior to needing the vehicle an hour and a half before my scheduled pick up time I received a call stating they had to cancel my booking because they did not have a car. Why in the heck book and pay and get a confirmation in advance if it doesn't mean anything? Then they tell me I have to call the 800 number to get my refund in 10-12 days. I recently rented a vehicle from this location for a week. I quickly saw why this has the lowest ratings of any Avis I've ever seen. The car I was given was certainly OK but the service was just horrendous. Especially upon return of the vehicle, There was a tiny little man who said I was two minutes past the grace. And tried to charge me an extra $30 and then said there is nothing he can do to prevent it. The manager on duty told me there is no issue but this little guy would not change it. He then started yelling like a lunatic well I calmly sat down and called the AvisPreferred plus line and had them remove the charge. It's clear this agent really hated his job and just did not like customer service and probably should get into work more suiting himself, Perhaps he could be a cook in the back of a golden corral. Maybe he can be a scarecrow in the middle of a field. Anyways I've been to hundreds of Avis locations and always had pleasant experiences except for this one. Mondays, am I right? Cheer up little fella someday you might grow to be a man, And realize there are other people in this world other than yourself. ONLY ONE STAR BECAUSE I COULD NOT GIVE ZERO! Save yourselves, folks! Read the reviews. They're right! 1st of all, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! The woman who checked me out had a terrible attitude. 2nd. I rented my car during the 3rd week in July, with average thigh emps of 95. Imagine my surprise when the air was marginal, at best. After driving home, only two miles away, to pack, I left for Nashville. The AIR CONDITIONING WASN'T WORKING...IN JULY. As I've had a stroke, something like this is a life and death issue for me. I called the rental location first, but no answer. Then I called Avis national, who's agent responded, "We're sorry. You can take the car to any Avis and exchange it." Well, I could if there were one within 50 miles, which there wasn't. So, I had to got to a local store and sit in the air conditioning until it was cool enough to drive. When I returned the call, I informed the woman who had rented me the car. She NEVER got out of her chair. She said she would call corporate to see if they could make an adjustment. Of course, she never called. I like Avis...or I used to. Apparently, they don't care about their customer service anymore, or they would STOP THE TERRIBLE SERVICE AT THE COLLIERVILLE, TN LOCATION. When I first went to the car rental to rent a car. The guy that was helping me was real nice and helpful. When I went to return the car. A lady helped me. She looked at everything and then says to me that the gas was not full. I'm like yes it is. I filled it before I came here. And when I got the car in beginning the gas wasn't even to the max full line. So that lady made me go back to fill up tank again. Literally $1.34. I would never ever rent a car here ever. The lady was mean and had an attitude. I do not recommend this rental car place to anyone. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I have had. Both the manager (older lady) and guy working the counter were terrible. Reserved over the phone the day before. When we came in there was no reservation on file. We travel a lot so I have their preferred membership through my company. Once we returned the car they tried charging us for everything, including gas $200, which preferred members don't have to pay for. In the 4 years working with Avis I have NEVER had service this poor or had to pay for gas. Look at my final receipt and the $200 gas charge was there. Last time I rent with Avis. Horrible Service, Horrible Representation of AVIS! I have over 150 rentals with AVIS - loyal preferred customer both nationally and internationally, this location is hands down the worst I have ever experienced. I choose to use AVIS for an insurance claim rental versus going to enterprise which was highly recommended. Our reservation was made the day prior to pick up by calling in - the man working could not find it. I gave all details including car I had reserved, he said nothing but it wasn't done and put me in a car that he told me was all he had left. Tires were balled, registration was expired (which I did not know until i was stopped by a police officer). When I called in about this they stated they took message but did not, I had 2 more days on rental agreement & when i brought it back in the woman who was claimed she was manager of location & Demetry's boss came outside very rudely before I could even get out and started making comments. I let them know about the tires and registration, & also that the maintenance light was blinking. they did nothing. Per reservation my wizard and preferred number had not been added by this man - so they charged me $200 for gas, when we tried to rectify this because I had original proof of reservation that had been made via phone that had been made the day prior to pick up then woman did not change the charge. I then also asked them to change the card on file for charge. Demetry pretended to swipe it - handed it back to me. I called AVIS billing after 2 days of no charges showing only to find out that it was charged to my work account as I had stated 3 times for it not to be. They are shady. Rude. Cars are not safe. DO NOT GO HERE! Go to another AVIS!! read more

This location is horrible about upgrading loyal customers. I'm a "preferred plus" customer and all other Avis locations gladly give me a nice upgrade except this place. Horrible customer service. My wife and I got there right when they opened at 8am Monday 10/31/16 to pick up my rental for this week for my company trip. The lady manager hadn't arrived yet. We were parked directly in front of their door. The guy assisting me actually asked me to go move my vehicle so his manager could part in that spot when she arrived. Other space 2 spots over were open but those weren't good enough for her. Don't recommend this location. They are more concerned with themselves than they are their customers. read more

My experience was very unpleasant. The owner/manager put extra charges on my card that didn't reflect what was on the receipt. I mentioned it to her and she called me a liar and told me to prove it. I showed her my bank statement where it showed that She overcharged me and the amount had already posted. She said the extra charge added on my Avis bill May have came from an over draft charge. That was the most unprofessional comment I've ever heard. I would never tell one of my clients or customers there finances are insufficient. In fact I have a business where I rent cars every week and spend a lot of money yearly doing so, but this has drove me to deal with another corporation. As black business owners or any business owner for that Matter, we have to be better and act like we want residual business not just a one time big payout. I would never think another African American business owner would treat there on kind like they're equal to nothing. Stay away from her if you want to be respected and treated fairly.
