Worst rental car experience of my life. Needed a larger vehicle for a family road trip with our daughter and her grandparents, so we rented an SUV with a third row. SUV looked ok at check out, but it was not very clean inside (definitely not cleaned as well as Enterprise cleans their vehicles). It drove fine to our house. I wiped it clean with Clorox wipes. The family who used it before us appears to have spilled a bag of popcorn all over the back. There were also many long human hairs on seats and floor. After I cleaned it, we loaded it and hit the highway, which is when the trouble began. As soon as we accelerated to get up to interstate speeds the SUV started shaking violently. Any time it reached a speed over 50 miles per hour. it shook violently. We called Avis, but kept getting redirected to a national call center. They said take the car to the airport but we didn't feel safe doing that. Next they told us to trade it in at an Avis location in South Johnson County. They assured us there were vehicles that met our needs there. We drove residential roads to get there, which took an hour, and when we got there they had no cars at all. The guy at the counter was perplexed as to why they sent us to his location. He said he had ten cars (no SUVs), but they all needed maintenance and couldn't be rented. Sounds like Avis doesn''t maintain their fleet very well at all. We called customer service back, but by this time they told us all of their nearby branches were closing. We ended up taking the SUV back to Merriam after it closed. Customer Service told us they were probably still going to charge us for one day of the rental. I have never seen such a poorly run business. National customer service is a joke. They couldn't reliably locate a replacement vehicle and then treated us like we did something wrong by renting their shoddy maintained SUV. So to recap, they gave us a dirty SUV that was not safe to drive on a highway, directed us all around town, which required us to spend 3 hours in the vehicle in Kansas City - not on our planned road trip - then told us we can't get a refund. We'll see about that. I will never ever ever rent from this clown company again. Hey Avis here's some advice: #1 clean your damn cars #2 maintain your damn cars #3 don't act like little bitches to your customers. I didn't think it was possible for any business to be worse than Budget car rental, but Avis proved it possible. This review is only a 1-star because Yelp won't allow users to leave zero. read more

Avis - Merriam - Here yours shitty car back - Car Rental Near Me - Merriam, Kansas

Had a reservation for car which they didn't have the supply so they upgraded me to SUV that worked out perfectly. Both Muni, the manager and Joshua were fast efficient and professional. Even with drop off on Sunday Joshua provide fast, excellent customer service. Even when I notice a discrepancy he was on top of it and addressed it! I'd rent here anytime! read more

Hey Avis, can you help out this location? I'm truly a little torn on this review because the state of this Avis location I do not think is fully its own fault but rather a lack of resources. When you walk in I can only think to describe it as the saddest rental car location I've yet to visit. It's hot-I think the AC was out as there was a fan running in the waiting room area, it's visibly dirty, and the place just felt like it was in bad shape. The person working though was very kind and helpful. I could tell he was doing his best to run this place to the best of his ability perhaps despite a lack of resources from his employer. This is just an observation I will add as we did not discuss the state of this Avis at all. There was a hand written sign on the front desk that said no overnight parking which honestly really gave me a panic as I am accustomed to being able to do that when renting a car and had driven here, needing to get on the road in my rental very soon. I asked the gentleman behind the counter about it and he said since I was only needing one night it wouldn't be a problem but the spot he instructed me to park in was a fire lane which gave me some pause, but I went with it and ultimately I was OK. I will say though, had he denied me parking I would have been pretty upset as it wasn't stated anywhere online that there wasn't parking available and it's kind of hard to just throw that on a customer, in my opinion. Avis was kind enough to upgrade me to a bigger vehicle, and I was on my way! It was overall easy enough to get in and out but like I said, corporate needs to invest more into this location if it's going to continue operating as an Avis. It's just not up to the standards I'd expect. read more

Do not rent from this company. Especially this location. We paid in full online and then required a credit card because we were renting a bigger vehicle. The man behind the counter called his boss who was very rude and refused to accommodate us after already paying cash online. The "boss" also yelled at us and his employee. AVIS needs to post on their website that they require credit cards for bigger vehicles BEFORE allowing the customer to purchase the car. This is really sad. Their establishment was terrible and unkept. Stay away from this location! read more

Worse costumer service, not friendly, two people there one wasn't even working and the other I talked to was rude and talked to me in a condescending mannner. Loyal customer for 7 years worse experience I've had. Use at last resort. read more

Terrible service up front. 7min away from the location they messed up and sent me to. With staff unable to either drive us down the street or go get the car I reserved and bring it here such a pain. read more

Worst costumer service I had paid swipe my card it was a temporary while I got my new one still would pay they denied my rental and I had to leave the same morning. And they won't refund the deposit even though it's not my fault I didn't get the car read more

On several occasions when other rental car companies were unable to help me out, this Avis shop had a car for me. They have been very accommodating when I've been in a pinch and they always seem to have plenty of cars. read more

Customer service was horrible. When trying to ask questions about the process of renting a car we were treated like we were dumb and non of the questions were answered. The employee kept brushing us off. Would never go to this location for help again nor would I recommend it. read more

They were great, not sure why the negative reviews. Fair on price and didn't overcharge us for anything. Good reliable rental car, will use them again! read more

Rental car was filthy and smelt like food - it was gross just driving it home. I had to vacuum, sanitize and Febreze before even using - and this is during COVID. There was no "enhanced cleaning" on this car. We hadn't used Avis in years, and won't be again. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Customer service is terrible, we PAID for a car reservation in advance and I guess they completely disregard that because when we showed up they were "out of cars." Why even have reservations if you don't abide by them? So after that, they tell us to go the one in Gladstone and called and assured us they had a car. After driving 30 minutes to the location, they tell us they are OUT OF CARS and on top of that the lady at the front desk had a terrible attitude. So now we've wasted money on the rental, because we don't get a refund for TWO-THREE DAYS and we've wasted money on a hotel for the night, because we could not make our business trip. So after explaining this to them, THEY DON'T GIVE US A VOUCHER, CREDIT OR EVEN AN APOLOGY!!! None of this is an exaggeration. If you want a recommendation, it's to stay far away from this place and this company. read more

I am Presidents Circle and with Accenture, one of Avis's largest clients- you would think they would treat us like they cared. Put me in a one way rental to the airport in a Ford Fusion with a Check Engine light and rough idle. Was told it's because it's a one way, and they don't want to put me in one of their "good cars" since they aren't getting it back. Seems unsafe and ridiculous. Also did the bait and switch on another rental where I acquired a vehicle for them from the Airport, and they decided not to rent to me. I would choose another rental location. read more

This place was amazing! The service we received from this Avis was one of the friendliest we've had from a car rental. The couple that works here was very personable, efficient and knowledgable. We left the car rental on a Wednesday and was getting the indicator light from the Tire-Pressure System that the front driver tire was low. We filled the tire back up that night but later in the afternoon on Thursday we found that our tire was running very low and pretty much flat. We figured it was a leak and called Avis before driving on it any further. They were super friendly and directed us to their local Firestone to have it checked it out and possibly replaced at no cost to us. Even the service at the Firestone was great! They were really full that day but managed to fit us in and got the tire replaced in about 45 minutes. It was free...awesome! Overall I highly recommend this Avis. The couple was great and the people they work with were extremely helpful and polite. Also, check out their reviews on Google..all 5-stars. Don't be turned off by the one-star on Yelp. I called the day before to confirm my reservation and, more importantly, that it would be a truck. They were able to confirm. I called again, on my way to the rental store to confirm my reservation as I was running a bit late. Confirmed. I show up, and you guessed it! No truck. The staff member offered no explanation or apology, and instead was accusatory of me. He kept asking who I spoke to that confirmed this, and when I said "I don't know her name, but it sounded like a woman." he said "We don't even have a woman who works here." Keep in mind, you have to go through about 10 minutes of robot prompts to speak to a person. He began clicking around on his computer to "find a truck at the North KC location" and after a few minutes of nothing, I call the North KC location myself, and they answer on the first ring. Before leaving, I ask if he can cover my Uber fare, or give me a discount of my rental. His response? "I don't have the resources to offer that. The reservation is at North KC now, so I no longer have access to it." read more

Terrible attitude when returning car early and didn't give a refund for that time. Also would not drop me off to pick up my car!!! It was only 5 minutes away! read more

The man who serviced us wasn't inside of the building when we arrived and when he entered the building he didn't have on a mask. He rudely answered three different phone calls before even looking our way. He was very unprofessional. After we weren't able to receive a car he answered his cellphone and held a very loud conversation yelling at his phone to what seemed to be his child. I was very uncomfortable and he took his mask off after about 10 minutes of us being there. We had to wait a while so we were there for about 30 minutes. I do NOT recommend this place AT ALL! read more

Bait and switch. He had two cars to rent. He told us to look at the car on the left, but he wrote the contract for the car on the right. He downgraded us, and said he would compensate us, but he didn't. We wanted a vehicle that would be comfortable for day long drive. The vehicle had sport suspension, which was awful for our purposes. The only requirement he met was good gas mileage. Do yourself a favor and rent a vehicle elsewhere. read more

Double billed, nightmare getting that straightened out. Car was dirty and pulled to the left lol

Do not rent from this AVIS. I would give a ZERO if I could. I rented a car in Merriam and they charged me $85 worth of tolls in Chicago, even though I only drove 168 miles in the vehicle. Customer Service when trying to resolve was completely negligible. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION OR ANY OTHER AVIS!!! This was the worst interaction with management and customer service I have ever experienced. Save your time and money by going to literally any other rental agency in KC. I cannot stress enough on how unprofessional both on site management and CS was during a recent interaction around being charged for an extra day due to the location closing early and a scratch on the bumper. The on-site manager literally ripped up a document in front of me because I refused to sign it, when no one was able to explain what I was agreeing to by signing it. And when I called to ask CS they told me "no offense, but I should have used common sense" amongst other customer blaming comments during our interaction. Again, at no point during this interaction could AVIS 1. Explain their own internal policies for identifying and reporting pre existing damages and 2. why I am being charged an additional day due to the location closing early leaving me with no option to drop off until the next day, which was I was told to do by AVIS's own CS. Please learn from my mistake and chose a rental company that follows their own policies and treats their customers with basic respect and courtesy. read more

If I could give a negative star review I would. This was the absolute worst service I have ever received in any customer service setting. The man on the front desk was extremely unclear about deposits and underage reservation. He was SO rude to me and my mother and law and offered absolutely zero solutions to the predicament we were in (which was a deposit on the car because I was 22). Because of this encounter I will NEVER use Avis again. Also, the positive reviews have to be sponsored or paid there is NO WAY there could be anything positive said about this place. Also we left with no car and no refund. read more

I can't even say enough about your location in Merriam KC~ Abdi was amazing .. I was a stranded hockey mom with another mom and 2 boys and lots of equipment and luggage.. after trying to get something from your other Avis location we raced over to this one and I walked in at 1:57.. 3 mins before close .. Tears in my eyes and hopelessness on my face.. Abdi did not turn me away or refuse my pleas .. instead spoke to me in a calm reassuring manner.. he searched for a car that would get us home to St Louis .. our option was a 4 door car that was 10x smaller than what was going to get us back .. but we were gonna make it work.. we had to.. he offered to store our belongings.. leave our other car .. and whatever else we needed .. as I walked over to the little car that was going to be our ticket out of KC .. he came running out and said 'WAIT! I have another car.. an SUV.. the PERFECT size to get this worn out mom and exhausted boys home!'.. he even said 'I'm going to wait until you pull out to make sure you leave safely'.. you can't even imagine the emotions I have right now or then.. this trip went from bad to worse to even worse .. with the Polar Vortex drowning our plans for a fun weekend .. my car breaking down was the icing on the cake.. Abdi was amazing .. you are very lucky to have employees that really cares about their guest.. I said to my friend .. 'Not all heroes wear capes.. some wear Avis uniforms!!' Thank you Avis.. Abdi ..
