Do not rent from this company. Especially this location. We paid in full online and then required a credit card because we were renting a bigger vehicle. The man behind the counter called his boss who was very rude and refused to accommodate us after already paying cash online. The "boss" also yelled at us and his employee. AVIS needs to post on their website that they require credit cards for bigger vehicles BEFORE allowing the customer to purchase the car. This is really sad. Hey Avis, can you help out this location? I'm truly a little torn on this review because the state of this Avis location I do not think is fully its own fault but rather a lack of resources. When you walk in I can only think to describe it as the saddest rental car location I've yet to visit. It's hot-I think the AC was out as there was a fan running in the waiting room area, it's visibly dirty, and the place just felt like it was in bad shape. The person working though was very kind and helpful. I could tell he was doing his best to run this place to the best of his ability perhaps despite a lack of resources from his employer. This is just an observation I will add as we did not discuss the state of this Avis at all. There was a hand written sign on the front desk that said no overnight parking which honestly really gave me a panic as I am accustomed to being able to do that when renting a car and had driven here, needing to get on the road in my rental very soon. I asked the gentleman behind the counter about it and he said since I was only needing one night it wouldn't be a problem but the spot he instructed me to park in was a fire lane which gave me some pause, but I went with it and ultimately I was OK. I will say though, had he denied me parking I would have been pretty upset as it wasn't stated anywhere online that there wasn't parking available and it's kind of hard to just throw that on a customer, in my opinion. Avis was kind enough to upgrade me to a bigger vehicle, and I was on my way! It was overall easy enough to get in and out but like I said, corporate needs to invest more into this location if it's going to continue operating as an Avis. Why even have reservations if you don't abide by them? So after that, they tell us to go the one in Gladstone and called and assured us they had a car. After driving 30 minutes to the location, they tell us they are OUT OF CARS and on top of that the lady at the front desk had a terrible attitude. So now we've wasted money on the rental, because we don't get a refund for TWO-THREE DAYS and we've wasted money on a hotel for the night, because we could not make our business trip. I am Presidents Circle and with Accenture, one of Avis's largest clients- you would think they would treat us like they cared. Put me in a one way rental to the airport in a Ford Fusion with a Check Engine light and rough idle. Was told it's because it's a one way, and they don't want to put me in one of their "good cars" since they aren't getting it back. Seems unsafe and ridiculous. I called the day before to confirm my reservation and, more importantly, that it would be a truck. They were able to confirm. I called again, on my way to the rental store to confirm my reservation as I was running a bit late. Confirmed. I show up, and you guessed it! No truck. The staff member offered no explanation or apology, and instead was accusatory of me. He kept asking who I spoke to that confirmed this, and when I said "I don't know her name, but it sounded like a woman." he said "We don't even have a woman who works here." Keep in mind, you have to go through about 10 minutes of robot prompts to speak to a person. He began clicking around on his computer to "find a truck at the North KC location" and after a few minutes of nothing, I call the North KC location myself, and they answer on the first ring. Before leaving, I ask if he can cover my Uber fare, or give me a discount of my rental. His response? "I don't have the resources to offer that. The reservation is at North KC now, so I no longer have access to it." read more

This place was amazing! The service we received from this Avis was one of the friendliest we've had from a car rental. The couple that works here was very personable, efficient and knowledgable. We left the car rental on a Wednesday and was getting the indicator light from the Tire-Pressure System that the front driver tire was low. We filled the tire back up that night but later in the afternoon on Thursday we found that our tire was running very low and pretty much flat. We figured it was a leak and called Avis before driving on it any further. They were super friendly and directed us to their local Firestone to have it checked it out and possibly replaced at no cost to us. Even the service at the Firestone was great! They were really full that day but managed to fit us in and got the tire replaced in about 45 minutes. It was free...awesome! Overall I highly recommend this Avis. The couple was great and the people they work with were extremely helpful and polite. Also, check out their reviews on Google..all 5-stars. Don't be turned off by the one-star on Yelp. Bait and switch. He had two cars to rent. He told us to look at the car on the left, but he wrote the contract for the car on the right. He downgraded us, and said he would compensate us, but he didn't. We wanted a vehicle that would be comfortable for day long drive. The vehicle had sport suspension, which was awful for our purposes. The only requirement he met was good gas mileage. Do yourself a favor and rent a vehicle elsewhere. read more

The man who serviced us wasn't inside of the building when we arrived and when he entered the building he didn't have on a mask. He rudely answered three different phone calls before even looking our way. He was very unprofessional. After we weren't able to receive a car he answered his cellphone and held a very loud conversation yelling at his phone to what seemed to be his child. I was very uncomfortable and he took his mask off after about 10 minutes of us being there. We had to wait a while so we were there for about 30 minutes. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION OR ANY OTHER AVIS!!! This was the worst interaction with management and customer service I have ever experienced. Save your time and money by going to literally any other rental agency in KC. I cannot stress enough on how unprofessional both on site management and CS was during a recent interaction around being charged for an extra day due to the location closing early and a scratch on the bumper. The on-site manager literally ripped up a document in front of me because I refused to sign it, when no one was able to explain what I was agreeing to by signing it. And when I called to ask CS they told me "no offense, but I should have used common sense" amongst other customer blaming comments during our interaction. Again, at no point during this interaction could AVIS 1. Explain their own internal policies for identifying and reporting pre existing damages and 2. why I am being charged an additional day due to the location closing early leaving me with no option to drop off until the next day, which was I was told to do by AVIS's own CS. Please learn from my mistake and chose a rental company that follows their own policies and treats their customers with basic respect and courtesy. read more

The man on the front desk was extremely unclear about deposits and underage reservation. He was SO rude to me and my mother and law and offered absolutely zero solutions to the predicament we were in (which was a deposit on the car because I was 22). I can't even say enough about your location in Merriam KC~ Abdi was amazing .. I was a stranded hockey mom with another mom and 2 boys and lots of equipment and luggage.. after trying to get something from your other Avis location we raced over to this one and I walked in at 1:57.. 3 mins before close .. Tears in my eyes and hopelessness on my face.. Abdi did not turn me away or refuse my pleas .. instead spoke to me in a calm reassuring manner.. he searched for a car that would get us home to St Louis .. our option was a 4 door car that was 10x smaller than what was going to get us back .. but we were gonna make it work.. we had to.. he offered to store our belongings.. leave our other car .. and whatever else we needed .. as I walked over to the little car that was going to be our ticket out of KC .. he came running out and said 'WAIT! I have another car.. an SUV.. the PERFECT size to get this worn out mom and exhausted boys home!'.. he even said 'I'm going to wait until you pull out to make sure you leave safely'.. you can't even imagine the emotions I have right now or then.. this trip went from bad to worse to even worse .. with the Polar Vortex drowning our plans for a fun weekend .. my car breaking down was the icing on the cake..
