I rented a car from Avis, reserving at the airport out of necessity. The price for the car I wanted to rent for 10 days was quoted online at roughly $650. An earlier date of return (5 days) was entered onto the contract when I went to pick up the car, without my noticing. When I brought the car back, I was charged over double the quoted price (high insurance, plus a late fee). The explanation was that the rate was a weekly rate, and I had kept the car for two weeks (actually, nine days) and had not returned the car on time. I have checked several times online subsequently and each time the quoted price for the car for an equivalent period was $650. After making first a written complaint and then an oral one, one half of my insurance plus the late fee were refunded, for a grand total of $234. The agent I reached online was kind and helpful to the extent of her power, but the corporation saw that it could cheat me, and it did. I feel seriously rooked by this agency and I will not ever rent from Avis again. read more

Where do I get started!!! The manager (friday night) is horrible. One of the associates tried to charge my credit card more than the limit. Then they refused to lower the amount, saying it was "policy" and I had to wait 24 hrs to use the same credit card. The manager went away and I went to a different associate and she re did the transaction and everything went smoothly. So much for policy. Its the only reason I give Avis two stars. The woman was very helpful. But the whole scenario happened twice!!! The second time it happened I left and came back about 12 hours later. So their so called policies are BS!!!! The first time 10 mins and the 2nd 12 hours. The just don't want to redo the transaction. They DO NOT put the customer first! But of course, there are people like the lady who helped me who are always there to help out. read more

I have traveled for many years and this Avis is the worst. Other than the many times my car was not ready, recently I was charged $17 (through email) for a toll that I was nowhere near on the day of the charge! If that isn't bad enough, when I called to inquire about the mystery charge, they refused to help and indicated that it was my problem to take up with the state toll authority. If that wasn't bad enough the charge was not even for the mid size car I rented but for a commercial vehicle. I would stay away from this Avis! read more

Left an IPhone on the dash of my rental, and recognized it as soon as the bus departed the rental car return area. The driver would not stop to let me off to recover it, and there was not enough time to return from the airport to the area. I have several telephone numbers, including their lost and found, and have, for 24 hours left messages without human contact or return call. Horrible experience. read more

Don't rent from Avis! Arrived at Logan Airport at 10:30 pm and an hour and a half later I'm still waiting in line. Appalling! Can't cancel without paying $150. Don't do it!! read more

Longest car rental line I have had the misfortune of being in my entire life. Every other rental co had a 0-5 min wait. Seems consistent with recent reviews. Avoid! read more

Avis is by far the worst company in the world. I rented a car for business. The car wasn't clean and it smelled like someone had vomited all over it. Upon returning the car the check in people at Logan Airport quizzed me about a dent the car had. The dent was there when I accepted the car. As I walked through the dark car garage looking for my rental car, alone mind you, I made sure to check the car for dents. But the woman checking my car in insisted I had a accident. She yelled at me and told me to stop lying. How can people live with themselves after humiliating a customer in public. I was then made to wait in line for a supervisor. Over an hour later, and very frustrated that I had gotten no where I decided to never use Avis ever again. No one from the company has even called me to try to fix this. read more

Very disappointing. Waited over an hour despite booking ahead. All other companies at Boston airport had little or no queues. They have not responded to my complaint as yet. read more

What can I say, simply the worst customer service experience of my life. I am a young woman, 8 miles out of Boston Logan and the tire almost falls off the car. I broke down on a bridge in a very unsafe area. I called the office and asked for assistance and later I found out that they didn't even turn in the call for 90 minutes. in the mean time my husband is trying to help me so he calls the office and speaks with Manager Steve who says he will send another car. LIES! they never intended to send a car! The state Police comes by and says I am parked in a very unsafe neighborhood and I need to move. I CAN'T! Steve the manager keeps lying to to my husband and telling him that someone is on their way. 2 1/2 hours later the tow truck arrives. I get back to the office and Stevey is 25 and starts talking sweet to me! Are you kidding!!!! I rent 100+ days a year with and I am done. This is the last straw. I am going back to Hertz and I will pay a little more and get MUCH BETTER SERVICE. Thanks AVIS for a memorable night. read more

Predatory. Avoid this branch like plague. First the expences on top of the base fees added $800 to the cost, just by renting outside of the area, these fees do not exist - i declined all options by the way. It gets worse, after trying a car for 12 hrs driving a total of 30 miles just north of Boston, I realized they wrote the contract for TRIPLE the amount we agreed to over the counter. I immediately drove to the nearest Avis to end this nighmare, as I rented it for 3 weeks. Without discussing the amount of it with me, they charged me $940. Yes, that's right, one day rental for almost a thousand dollars. The fine print in the contract based upon the rate that they placed in the contract without my initials and clearly ridiculous, and after the Avis manager at the satellite location successive tries to the Logan Avis management, could not get past the rude and uncooperative desk manager. I am still waiting on resolution. The satelite branch manager being sympathetic to the obvious preditory situation that in my opinion is the definition of fraud, rented me a reasonable rate which matched the contract. I guess I should have believed all the bad reviews and not used Avis, but as a Preferred member, and with the poor reviews for other companies too, I decided to rent from Avis at Boston Logan airport for a 11 day trip. My car was ready when I arrived, but I checked in at the kiosk in the parking lot anyway, to be sure I had the right car. The lady there was surly and disinterested. She didn't tell me that there was no contract in the car, so I couldn't get out of the exit. This took 10 minutes or so to sort out. When I returned the car, it was checked in by a young man, who gave me a slip of paper and asked me to take it to "the booth over there", vaguely pointing into the distance. I found no booth, so I returned to the car. The rep had moved on, so I asked another nearby. He pointed to a booth in a different direction. I went there. In was unattended, with a paper stuck to the window telling me to go to the check-in desk inside the airport. I walked there. A line of 20+ renters were there - probably an hour wait or more. I returned to the car where I found a 3rd rep - somewhat older. He informed me that the other 2 didn't have a clue. He rechecked my car mileage and gas, and "fixed" whatever was wrong (unusually high mileage perhaps?) on his electronic gizmo. He said the original guy could have fixed it himself too, if he had a clue. He printed me a receipt and sent me on my way. It seems that Avis are not training their staff adequately for the job, and Customer Service is not high on their priority list. I've always been happy with their service at other locations, so this appears to be a problem specify to the Logan Airport location. read more

Please DO NOT rent a car here. We rented a car twice (yes - repeated the error) but there will not be a third time. First time: they literally tried to FRAUD us with the fuel. We returned the car with full fuel but the employee who performed the check on the car (a very rude one) wrote down that it was EMPTY (!!). When we arrived at the counter upon car return and the Avis's person told us that their employee wrote "empty" and we had to pay (when we were sure that was full because we made fuel close to Logan) we were with no words and asked him to double check. At first he did not want, we insisted and he sent another employee to check. Guess what? Well: of course he checked that was FULL. So: the first employee who made the check lied? Or (more likely) this is a fraud that they try to do, since I have read other reviews in this sense and that's creepy. Then he admitted that we were right and we had to pay nothing in addition. Second time we rent at Logan (maybe worst than previous time): refused to give us the car because we had debit card and forced us to come back home to take the credit card (or to cancel). Came back home and returned with the credit card since we needed to leave as we had a meeting in the morning. Another employee told us that debit card NOW was ok so we came back home for nothing. Gave us a car that, we discovered when we got in, required "maintenance" so we returned to the counter to change it. Gave second car, but we discovered that keys were not inside the car (we asked to one of the very few assistants in the parking lot, he was not able to explain why the keys were not there). We came back again to the counter very very agry and asked to speak with the manager. The manager was very sorry for what happened and ensured to give us a car functioning. We picked up the car and finally left. Arrived at 8.30am on a Saturday. Were able to leave with the car at 12am. Missed the morning meeting. Lessons: 1) they have NO IDEA of what customer service means. For them, the client is always wrong (bad...). 2) they are incredibly rude when a problem arises. 3) for sure, we will never rent with them again. read more

When I checked in after a cross country flight, tired and a bit bleary, I was summarily processed and offered a car class not booked. When I got this straightened out I found my bill was several dollars a day higher than my reservation. When I pointed this out (fortunately we had the booking printout with us) the counter person was incredibly rude--"It's only three dollars a day!" "It's not like I'm getting the money!"). She corrected this and printed out a new contract. When I returned the car four days later the check in receipt showed the higher rate, again. Fortunately I had time to deal with this and again went to the desk. This different clerk was a bit more pleasant but did not apologize for what is clearly an attempt to inflate the rate. I have rented from Avis many times but this is the worst rental experience I have had and is consistent with other reports. AVOID THIS PLACE. read more
