Carpets of America

Carpets of America

AVOID THEM! They…read moreinstalled flooring in my home just prior to me selling it last Jul-Aug (2021). I applied for and assumed I was approved for Synchrony financing. Once the home sold I used that equity to retire many different bills, one of which I assumed was the Carpets of America $3,100 bill for their work... Fast forward to May 13th, 2022. Out of nowhere I receive an email from them with an attached invoice for the $3,100 job. This is the first time they have emailed or contacted me at all in almost 10 months! I questioned the bill and told them it must be an old invoice since I assumed it had already been paid. Their next email was aggressive, informing me that unless I paid within 7 days, I would be sent to collections. They told me I was denied credit from Synchrony and the bill was still valid. Surprised, I asked them to provide proof of denial (something they should certainly have on file). I also asked them why it took them 10 months to contact me. They've had my valid email this entire time, along with my phone number (unchanged for over 10 years now)! They told me they could never get ahold of me (I show ZERO emails from them since June of 2021). They never provided proof of the denial of credit that I requested from Synchrony, and they again threatened me with an expensive Claims collection unless I sent them payment immediately... I told them I ordered copies of my Credit card statements and that I'd have them in 10 days. If I saw no payment of that debt in my records, I'd happily pay the bill. Carpets of America has treated me like an accused criminal instead of a customer. They have shown great disrespect and are a very unprofessionally run store. They have made up lies and thrown them at me (telling me I never answered my phone and they couldn't reach me...I guess voice-mail was too big of a concept for them to grasp). Their emails have been threatening and insulting (copies available upon request). There are too many better alternatives for flooring in Cache Valley. If you decide to deal with them, be careful, and request hard copies of EVERYTHING...

On their website, they said the only flooring seller in the valley who participates in their sales is Carpets of America. So I went there. Normally, I would never tell a retailer that I had a coupon or knew of a sale BEFORE they gave me a quote, but because the salesgirl kept trying to steer me to other products, I had to mention to her that I only wanted to see Mohawk products because they were having a 50% off sale. I asked them how much their Mohawk Dura Ceramic was, since it was one of the products on sale (already knowing the average regular price since I had already shopped it at several other places), and the girl told me she had to call the boss to ask him. The girl came back and gave me a price. It was almost DOUBLE what the REGULAR price was at the other carpet retailers I had shopped the product from! So, the owner/manager almost doubled the price so that when I got the 50% off, I would actually just be paying full price. The price he told me was $7 per square something. The non-sale prices I had seen elsewhere for the same product were from $3.50 to $4.00. I wrote Mohawk twice to tell them that I was angry that they were having a 50% off sale, but that I couldn't partake of it because the retailer wasn't being honest about the price. They didn't respond to either email, meaning they don't care.

They already got paid $6k for it so all they WILL do is charge me $2.6k to replace the cabinets doors. My doors and drawers are in great condition, there's no need to replace them but I can't afford to pay someone else to take it all down, sand, prep and re-paint again. NOT HAPPY They said they wash the cabinets down and the paint isn't sticking because of oils on the surface over the years. Well sanding takes care of that. And my question is...If YOU KNOW your method doesnt work well with refinishing, why keep doing it that way? I SEE WHY THEY HAVE TERRIBLE REVIEWS. They came over to give an estimate and didn't have an example of what the finished product would look or feel like but told me it would be enamel-like. Its more like a thinner, less covering paint. It was supposed to be in gloss and they did a satin finish, so no shine at all. I also spent a lot of time and money choosing my color. Went thru 17 different samples and they cost $8 each. But I found my color, they said they can match anything. It was supposed to be a faint sage color. They said they couldn't match it on the DAY OF WORK. If I would have known that they couldn't match it, I could have given them my second choice which was a warm vanilla shade. But since it was the day of, I just went with it. The cabinets doors and drawers are very thinly covered and lots of chunks and hairs and grit in the paint. Now it does look nice from afar but not up close and not the color i chose, but what they chose FOR ME. They told me "we dont have every single color" but i was told they could color match anything. It was quick and finished on time but not the color I wanted or the sheen and you can see some areas where I did paint swatches on the doors, just the outline of the old paint because they dont sand anything. Paint is already chipping off and lots of areas that came off when tape was removed. I took pics and sent them so they came out and asked where the issues were. I pointed out all the chunks, hairs, areas that were already peeling off, the nail that was sticking out and they just painted over it and minimal coverage areas. They said i signed a contract acknowledging that there would be "some pitting" , i didnt realize "some pitting" was every surface, front, back, top, bottom, left and right. It just looks like it didn't get full coverage. Owner said i was "too picky" and he'd be proud to show off this work. Well I guess thats good cause its going on your review! They said they would touch it all up and if I wasnt happy, they would re-paint. So after the touch up, I said I wasnt happy because the coverage was still showing the wood color thru. Owner said they weren't going to repaint. I was like? You JUST told me that you would re-paint but now you wont. So I said I guess we're done. So a few days later, owner called and said he knew i didnt like it and was unhappy that the paint comes off so easy everywhere and the coverage is so thin. So he told me i could pay another $2.6k and theyd replace the doors so that the paint wont come off the new ones. I have to do it because the paint is going to be a disaster in just a few weeks anyhow and i dont have another $6k to pay someone else to sand and prep and paint correctly. So now I'll be out $8.6k and still have to repaint the base myself but the doors will be fine.... I hope. The longer I have been looking at my cabinets, the sadder I have been getting. I wish I would have just done it myself because I'm out so much money and I dont have the kitchen I wanted and STILL have to paint a large amount myself now after all. If you look at my pictures you can see the swatch of my color and the color they chose for me. I'm so disappointed and out a ton of money too. I have so many pics of hair and chunks in the paint, didnt post all but you get the idea . Was it fast? Yes Was it quality work? No Do I regret this whole endeavor? TOTALLY

I have a…read morefinely tuned radar for when you're being fed cheap bologna on stale bread, and I'm here to say, they build quality houses. The process isn't without its hiccups; no mankind has ever built a home without hiccups. Though minor, they were promptly dealt with in a professional manner, because they genuinely care. We've grown into our home with more rambunctious kids now for some time, stress tested it for a handful of years, and can say it's been an absolute joy living in a Duke built home. But seriously, we see homes all the time that took the easy way out -- cheap products, shortcuts in the process, corners cut where you can't see them yet but you will. Thanks to Duke Building, I can stand tall and proud as I arrive home every day knowing that what's behind the walls is just as solid as what you see in front of you. No mysteries. No "well that's interesting" discoveries three years later. Just a well-built home that keeps its promises long after the keys are handed over. Riley runs a team that actually takes ownership. That's rarer than it should be. When something needed attention, I didn't have to chase anyone down or wonder if my message disappeared into a black hole. These are people who show up, follow through, and take pride in the finished product. In an industry where your mileage can vary wildly, finding a builder whose team reflects the same values from the top down is genuinely refreshing. If you're building in Cache Valley and you want to drive home every night feeling good about the decision you made, call Duke Building. You won't regret it.
