A careful walk through the store reminded me of the legendary Wilkes Bashford on Sutter Street, back in the 1980s. Like the original Wilkes, Button Down offers beautiful Italian and European styles, along with famous brands and their own private label. They also carry luxurious accessories for men and women. Greg, who had also worked at Wilkes in its heyday, helped me put together an entire ensemble. It was like a trip back in time, with the same quality, personal attention and service that is nearly impossible to find anymore. Button Down is located on Sacramento Street in Presidio Heights, and it is well worth the visit.

I almost did! Though at the last minute elected to just procure a trousers and a t-shirt that wasn't even remotely what I had been considering but which also was actually perfect so there you go. Simply, you should just pop in. It doesn't matter your mood. If you're blue, your frown will turn upside down. If you're already having a good day, the rest will be better. If you've been cocktailing try really hard to not just volunteer access to all your accounts with an invitation to have at it. All their wares are high-quality, thoughtfully built, for everyday or special occasions, looks that maybe not everybody else is sporting. My best friend and I recently visited the Aviator Nation store on Hayes Street in San Francisco for the first time, and we absolutely loved it! The store had such a fun, welcoming atmosphere and a great selection of stylish, high-quality clothing. Everything was beautifully displayed, making it easy and enjoyable to shop. What truly made our experience exceptional was Angela. From the moment we walked in, she welcomed us with the biggest smile and made us feel completely at home. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to help us find exactly what we were looking for. She went above and beyond without ever making us feel pressured, which made our shopping experience so enjoyable and memorable. Leah was also extremely kind, welcoming, and helpful. Their outstanding customer service made the perfect first impression, and we left the store feeling so happy with our experience. The staff racially profiled me. I was with one of my friends who is white and right after we entered, two other groups of customers came in -- all white. The sales associate only came up to me and my friend and only made eye contact with me when talking to us. She didn't approach any other customers, only me, the only brown person in the store. Disapointing anyways, this store has some 'designer' level clothing at varying prices that very wildly. Buying a 100 dollar pair of somewhat gothic style pants, the original owner guy I purchased from was kind of cool. we chatted things up, he kind of gave me some pointers for sf fashion spots, talked to me about some of the other items around the shop (including a 1000 dollar concealable leather pouch). I usually like to give things time... evaluate places before sticking with them... so opting to wait on anything else... I make a trip to japan (where I purchased another gothic style pants from the yellow house... which were even more disappointing that Ceiba. Details are in the review I made for them). Also, mind you, both pants are elastic and the material is a little thick, they were both very comfortable. after coming back, I had to get both pants repaired. the ceiba pants I've had to have repaired twice (but it still has more damage on it that I haven't gotten repaired. the pockets are falling apart for one) now while the japanese yellow house pants I've had to have repaired 3 times now. It's rare that I need to have my clothes repaired... mostly its seams coming undone and I can usually fix those myself.... usually... but these were more that the fabric was giving out. the seams were strong but the pants were fraying or giving out around the seams. I cant just sew that back in. I've gone to Ceiba twice to try to talk to them about the material, the pants, repairs... and just to find solutions. the first time for them to give me advice on to handle it myself... and the second time, after SEVERAL times having to pay to get them fixed, to see if maybe the item was just bad or something and finding more vendor and patron solutions. both times it was a woman this time and both times she could not help. I do not recommend people come here for clothes, its a nice name place to show off a bit and pretend to be more socioeconomically established but little more than that.

Tucked away on the unassuming corner of Lexington and 18th, lies a treasure trove of threads by some of the most interesting (and arguably the best) emerging labels on the scene. From Henrik Vibskov (my fave) to Reality Studio, Rodejeber to Rachel Comey, and home goods from around the world, they've managed to get their selection just right for both men and women, yet many of the pieces are completely interchangeable and unisex. I adore their aesthetic and love that they take merchandising risks in buying pieces from collections that wouldn't be seen anywhere outside of New York. I think the best thing about the store is that the owners, Andrew and Mark still manage to keep the space accessible for everyone with their laid back demeanor and warm, welcoming, and beautifully appointed space. It's as if their other store, Aggregate Supply had an older sibling who went off to study at Central St. Martins, but still kept it real and low key with their peeps at home. Also worth noting that they price slightly below suggested retail for many of the collections they stock and have awesome sales at the end of each season. Definitely worth a visit or ten!
