4 to 5 stars for the "Ostrich!" Bottom line: This is a fun place with really good food. FOOD: We had 6 different taco plates and small plates. Only the pork belly tacos were sub par (the pork belly was over done - dry and tough). The seasoning on EVERYTHING (including, I might add, the pork belly tacos) was really great. The tamale bites and dipping sauce were my personal favorite. Not sure I wanna know the nutritional information for that one, but the dish was outstanding. My wife got both the raw oysters and baked oysters...whatever...she loved both. SERVICE: Stephanie did a great job of getting our order right, and keeping the food coming. She made excellent suggestions; important because we didn't know the menu. ATMOSPHERE: Fun and loud. It's a little too loud to have an intimate conversation, and it doesn't have the same amount of personality as a similar place, Deseo (in Cricket West), but it's fun, clean, and new. DRINKS: If you're drinkin', Avestruz is serving some pretty good cocktails. I'd give this category to Deseo, as well however. Overall, Avestrutz is a great addition to this part of town. For upscale Mexican, I'd give the nod to Deseo, BUT, we will come back here...plenty. 5 stars, for now. read more

With the sheer number of dining options in Toledo, we almost never hit the same spot twice in one month--so the fact that we showed up at Avestruz twice in one week? That's saying something. Now, let's talk about "Ostrich Towne"--yes, that's what it's called. The branding is... let's go with "mysterious," and from the outside, it's hard to tell there's something amazing happening in there. But oh, there is. If you wait too long to try Avestruz, you're going to kick yourself when it blows up and the lines wrap around the parking lot. We found out about it through friends who were basically raving about how often they've been going--like, suspiciously often. And on our first visit, a packed Friday night with a line out the door, I got it. I was already late to the party. But then we went back that Wednesday, snagged a seat fast, got our food even faster, and realized: we've still got time to squeeze in a few more visits before patio season hits and Ostrich Towne goes full unhinged. Inside, Avestruz is spotless, modern, and way more stylish than you'd expect from a place parked in a development named after a large flightless bird. The menu? Wildly creative but laser-focused in flavor. The Caesar salad (yes, really) might be the best in Toledo. The tacos? Incredible. Oysters? A dream. Queso and chorizo dip? Say goodbye to self-control. It's all dialed in. The staff is genuinely hyped to be there, and the family behind the kitchen clearly knows what they're doing. Plus, the whole thing is part of this surprising revival in a part of Toledo that had basically been in hibernation for decades. We had heard good things and finally stopped by to checkout the latest restaraunt in our Neighborhood. The staff was very friendly the atmosphere was very calm on a tueaday night. We ordered the chefs choice option and were able to try many dishes. The smoked salmon and tanale bites were great, the Ceasars salad was refreshing, but the crispy mushroom risotto and short ribs was AMAZING! To drink I would really recommend the hibiscus Paloma, and the brownie for dessert. We can't wait to come back and try more of the tapas! read more

This has quickly become my go-to girls night out spot, and which a patio opening is for the summer, I fully expect to live here. Their drinks are always absolutely delicious, both alcoholic and mocktails. And the menu, good god. Just perfect. My favorites include: Roasted carrot tacos. I went back to Avestruz for their "Ostrich Hour" - their happy hour from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Cocktails are $7 and wine is $6 per glass, which isn't bad at all. The food was excellent as it always is we had the crispy green beans, chicken wings, and tamale bites, all of which were on point and bursting with favour The cheese cake was alright but the hot brownie with ice cream was amazing!! They're playing Wilder Woods music, which is a nice touch. However, the space could benefit from a few more sofa chairs and fewer standard chairs, as they aren't the most comfortable. Other than that, the place is Wonderful! The happy hour is fantastic A+ and I'll definitely be back. Just a heads-up, they're closed on Sundays and Mondays and the service was Great as it always is fast and precise. read more

Hands down the best tacos in Toledo. Prior to this place opening I thought Deseo was the best but Avestruz takes the top spot. Super unique combinations, great prices and an awesome ambiance. Finally got to check out the new spot and let me tell you you, it did NOT disappoint. The atmosphere was beautiful and clean! The service was fantastic but the food was incredible! We got the guacamole and Brussels to start with, a raspberry orange margarita and three tacos. My son got the chicken quesadilla kids meal and it was a great portion! The tater tots were even great! A great addition to the food scene on N Summit at Ostrich Alley. It just opened for lunch two weeks ago and serves a very flavorful selection of tapas, street tacos and other culinary deliciousness! Highly recommend! Their menu was mostly gluten free (and reasonably priced), they even had fried fish and fried chicken tacos in a GF fryer. Did I mention the GF donuts to dip in chocolate sauce (more of a cake like donut with a crispy top- but yum)?! Jon was our friendly and helpful server who communicated well with the kitchen on my celiac disease that made our experience even better. The vibe is fun -they had a singer on a Friday night, with garage window/doors that I assume they open when weather permits (it was raining) and creative art on the walls. I wish I could give Avestruz 10 s! We saw this place featured on Dine 419 this morning & wanted to try it out right away. Our server, Katie, was great. She was kind & attentive, and took really good care of us. We wanted to try everything, so keep that in mind when you see our bill. We LOVED everything Katie brought to our table! There are 2 things that stood out the most; crab dip & mini donuts. OMG, they were AMAZING! We also had; black cherry margaritas, red blend wine, Ostrich sour, tamale bites, chicken wings, chicken tacos & pork belly tacos. Everything was so good! I cannot express how impressed we are with this place. The atmosphere is welcoming & hip. The art work is phenomenal. Props to the artist! We already have plans to return with our daughter who is gluten-free bc the majority of the menu is GF & they're working towards making it completely GF. That's HUGE to the GF community! Their menu is extensive for this type of Deseo-like ambience and fare, and they pull it off well. There are tasty treats for all types of dietary preference. The service was good and we capped it off with some gluten free donuts... and it was hard to believe they were gluten free. The chef came out and shared some info on the project and menu items. Not a great experience. We love to try new places and give our business to locals. However, our experience-not great:/. It took over 45 minutes to get our drinks. Our food came out about 5 minutes before this. watching wait staff chit chat off to the side. The food-we only ordered an appetizer due to everything taking so long. The staff were great, apologized and only billed us for half the cost of our drinks. Our concern is that their explanation is that they were busy. We did not observe them busy at all. It was full but no waiting to be seated and plenty of staff to cover (maybe outside of an additional bartender). The appetizer we had was ok. If you're looking for authentic , Mexican place this place isn't it:/. We hope to try it again maybe in a few months to see if they were able to tease out the kinks.
