Parking was free (although we had to drive a couple laps around the small lot to find a spot). They do have a gate that was being installed that looks like parking may be a paid item in the future. Both the check in desk and security were very easy. They offered Pre check guests a ticket so that we did not have to remove laptops or shoes. Once in the terminal, they had a small snack bar with a number of offerings. However, once everyone arrived for the flight, there was very few places to sit, hardly anywhere to charge your devices, and it was very hot. Overall, a very easy experience, but would hope that they put some upgrades on the air side once business ramps up.

They also shut down the upstairs restaurant so now there's no food if you're gonna wait for the one flight to beautiful New Haven CT. It's a cute little place with a fairly new terminal building...newly renovated, anyway. They even built a new TSA checkpoint now that they have a commercial flight going outta here. Ah: the joys of flight! There is a decent sized general aviation and cargo shipping end also (Amazon, to be exact). I guess that for those of you looking to take flying lessons or send six tons of diapers to Djibouti, this place has something right up your alley. Parking is easy and free (for now), so keep those quarters in your pockets (for now). They're gonna build short and long term lots eventually, so stay tuned. Maybe they'll even find someone dumb enough to run the restaurant for the one flight a day! Wee!!!

The very bad parts were the price and the cab, itself. The dispatcher told me there was a $35.50 minimum price, which is ridiculous. But I was desperate and didn't have Internet access so I could use Uber or Lyft, which I did on my first ride of the day, from my home to a medical appointment for less than $15.00. It was only 6.8 miles! The $25+ difference in the rides was outrageous! What upset me more was how disgustingly filthy the car was. There were suspicious stains all over the seats and the headliner. I could just imagine someone projectile vomiting from the seats to the headliner. Then the door was also extremely dirty! The car was smelly (you could smell old cigarette smoke) and the A/C didn't work...at least not in the hellish back seat. I asked the driver if he could make it cooler but, I guess, he couldn't. When I got home, I took off my clothes and told my daughter to burn them. And then I wiped myself down with Lysol disinfectant wipes. I honestly felt subhuman sitting in that nasty car. I will NEVER use Checker Cab of Lakeland, again. NEVER!

The Ledger is the only newspaper in Lakeland-Winter Haven so you're stuck if you want to read a…read moredaily paper. They have some excellent reporters & photographers. They do a decent job on their "do gooder" stories and have sponsored some excellent causes. They are doing better at featuring the east side of the district. They take up a lot of space for giant photos. Sometimes ads seem to make up more of the paper than the news. Business is hidden in the back of the sports section. Sadly, they are biased in general due to decisions 'at the top'. They lead "left" politically. They favor certain organizations and shun others. They make it a personal mission to put the local police and city commissioners in a bad light to stir up "news". They used to have a fabulous food critic regular piece-long gone. They have a section called "Insider" where they give tidbits of new businesses in the area but they reflect few when there are many--someone isn't thorough in their homework! Their online Ledger is pitiful probably the worst online "read" I know. You pay for it if not a newspaper print subscriber. It's so full of ads that shift the page or send you to another page in the middle of scrolling, it's hard to stay on and read an article. The scroll bar fades in and out rendering it useless half the time. It is often not up to date nor complete compared with the newsprint version. Reading obituaries on line is ridiculously complicated. The program also times out frequently. Wondering if they have ANY happy online subscribers. Online deserves ZERO stars. $85 for 3 months daily delivery is outrageous!

The absolute worst rental car experience I've ever had…read more I arrived at the airport and shortly after realized their shuttles do not actually go to their location. According to the Expedia description, you're supposed to call them for pickup. Sounds simple enough, right? I called their number ten times in a row -- no answer. After getting nowhere, I gave up and paid for an Uber to their location, which is about 4 miles from the airport. When I walked into the office, it was a complete ghost town. I waited about five minutes before someone finally came to the front -- and they had a smug, unprofessional attitude from the start. My rental was already prepaid through Expedia, but then I was told I needed to pay nearly $700 just for insurance for four days. I have Progressive insurance, I'm in my 40s with a clean driving record, a valid driver's license, and major credit cards -- and somehow that still wasn't enough. Between the lack of shuttle service, no one answering the phone, the surprise insurance charges, and the terrible customer service, this was hands down one of the worst experiences I've had with any company -- especially in Florida. I would absolutely not recommend renting from here.

Ugh, can you give a business negative stars? I think this was the worst car rental experience I've…read moreever had. I was shopping for a rental car through Expedia, I noticed that Rent-A-Wreck advertised a price of $186.88 for a week including all taxes and fees. Before I finalized my reservation, I called the company, explained what kind of car insurance I had and asked if there would be any additional fees. The woman I spoke to said no, so I completed the reservation. My confirmation and pre-paid receipt said all taxes and fees included. When I showed up at the rental counter, they insisted on charging me an additional $14.99 a day in "Administrative Fees" to use my own insurance. I've rented cars all over and never heard of such a fee. They also charged me some additional taxes and fees. I disputed the charges, and explained my confirmation said otherwise, but they wouldn't budge. They told me I had to pay an additional $128.21 or I couldn't have the car. Well, it was a busy travel weekend, with few other cars available, so they had me over a barrel. I paid and they brought me a scraped up, dirty Nissan Versa, that reeked of stale cigarette smoke. The tire pressure was low, but I decided to just fill them myself rather than go back to that hateful place. The car drove alright, and got good gas mileage, but for $315.09 it was not a good deal. I could have reserved something that was clean and didn't stink for about $250.00 through Expedia. Well my return flight was early in the morning and the rental desk didn't open until 7:00 a.m., so I called the company to ask about an early drop off. They said it would be another $150.00 to drop it off before 7:00 a.m. Rather than get the shaft again, I rescheduled my flight to leave later in the morning. Luckily the airlines rearranged my flight for free. I arrived to drop off my car at about 6:30-6:45 a.m., planning to wait in the parking lot until 7:00 to return the car, and guess what? There was an employee there who said I could do a free early drop off. I stood there in disbelief. The person I spoke with on the telephone was wrong and totally screwed me. I rearrange my flight and ended up with a long layover for nothing. On returning home I did some research and found out this company's billing practices are considered unfair, deceptive, and illegal by the Federal Trade Commission, the State of Florida, and the State of California where I booked the car. I strongly encourage everyone to avoid this rental car company, and report them to one of the government agencies listed above if you've had a similar experience. I know I'm going to. I hope this business gets shut down.
