The Ledger is the only newspaper in Lakeland-Winter Haven so you're stuck if you want to read a daily paper. They have some excellent reporters & photographers. They do a decent job on their "do gooder" stories and have sponsored some excellent causes. They are doing better at featuring the east side of the district. They take up a lot of space for giant photos. Sometimes ads seem to make up more of the paper than the news. Business is hidden in the back of the sports section. Sadly, they are biased in general due to decisions 'at the top'. They lead "left" politically. They favor certain organizations and shun others. They make it a personal mission to put the local police and city commissioners in a bad light to stir up "news". They used to have a fabulous food critic regular piece-long gone. They have a section called "Insider" where they give tidbits of new businesses in the area but they reflect few when there are many--someone isn't thorough in their homework! Their online Ledger is pitiful probably the worst online "read" I know. You pay for it if not a newspaper print subscriber. It's so full of ads that shift the page or send you to another page in the middle of scrolling, it's hard to stay on and read an article. The scroll bar fades in and out rendering it useless half the time. It is often not up to date nor complete compared with the newsprint version. Reading obituaries on line is ridiculously complicated. The program also times out frequently. Wondering if they have ANY happy online subscribers. Online deserves ZERO stars. $85 for 3 months daily delivery is outrageous! read more

Nothing. Subscription cost $1 first month then $35/mo for delivery Sunday and Wednesday. That is not what I am being billed. I have ez pay and am charged $51.12 up to $56.12. When I called to ask why I am billed so much I am told that $48 is the fee for the paper. They had no reason they charge more than subscription rate on website. read more

I have been a subscriber to the Ledger since before e-newspapers existed and reading the Ledger through the app for several years, yet this morning the chatbot for the Ledger couldn't help me with a question because it couldn't find my account after I supplied my email, phone number and zip code. Every Sunday, I look at the letters to the editor to count how many are liberal slanted and how many are conservative...The number is always liberal with 'maybe' one conservative one on SOME of the sundays. Dad had this newspaper delivered from 1971 until he passed recently, at which point I dumped it. I called to let them know he was deceased and that the paper needed to be cancelled. Although they did stop the paper they continued to call his number until I finally had it disconnected. What part of dead do you not understand? I inquired about their digital subscription and they had a special - $1 for 6 months. Sounds great, right? I had to call and ask how much it would cost after that. Never got a straight answer other than, "the current, prevailing rate". That's fine, but how about telling me what the current rate is? Throw me a bone, people! Then I made the mistake of allowing them to send me a daily free briefing via email. While it may be free, it's festooned with ads galore, some of which my email program finds questionable. I have asked to unsubscribe several times, yet this briefing shows up daily and always to my junk box due to the questionable ads. Just today I went to a store and saw a printed copy at the register. $3 for a daily paper of maybe 25 pages and $4 for the Sunday version? Fat chance. I cancelled my Ledger subscription a couple of years ago, and continued to receive "speial offers" inthe mail. Understandable for a publication that is rapidly going downhill and losing subscribers while simultaneously reducing content and increasing prices. Now I've been flooded with spam subscription offers. I have tried to unsubscribe eight times now. Naturally I get the automated "You have been unsubscribed" message, but it it is all part of a deceptive practice. I continue to get the same span messages, and I have NOT been unsubscribed in any way. I'm considering legal options now, as well as taking to to social media to warn others. I have "unsubscribed" from a large number of legal, ethical businesses. Always works. Not with the Lakeland Ledger. read more

I signed up for a subscription to The Ledger as well as The Orlando Sentinel about three or four weeks ago. In the short time I did not receive the Ledger on 4 occasions. Today, again I didn't receive the Ledger and attempted to notify them via their web site. The site is slow, difficult to move from page to page and I learned that The Ledger no longer has email addresses to make contact!! I called CS and spoke to a women that my guess is, that she was in India! Absolutely no help. Out of shear frustration I asked to cancel. I will not recommend The Ledger to anyone. So I understand there are people who prefer print media. That's okay The problem is they have to deliver it to and they hire the absolute dregs of society. They speed through your neighborhoods at 4 am to get that 24+ hour old news to your house. They drive around slower drivers (me doing the speed limit) in the grass since I was blocking from driving WELL over 50 in our residential cul-da-sac. Then they text and drive and nearly hit you while walking in the early hours. I get it. The news is so old already you need to get it to these people. But don't bother complaining. They will just say the drive reports a different story and the same thing keeps happening. I'm waiting for this on in a Dark grey Camaro with tinted windows to kill someone. I have complained about her, spoke to her directly and all they do is tell me that I am telling a different story than their piece of crap driver. This morning she drove by cursing me. I have been a subscriber since 1979. Ever since Gannet brought the Ledger this paper is getting worst. First off the paper is getting smaller every week. I don't want much, I just don't want to be robbed. You take money out of my bank account, I want you to provide the service in which your greedy hands took from me. It has been7 days since you took it and have received 1 paper. I call everyday and am told that the problem with be fixed the next day but same old shi$. I can't cancel because then there is definitely that I won't get what I already paid for already. This is plain stealing. Shady, dishonest company. I had zero idea that I was signing up for a 23.65/month newspaper when a young man at Harvey's grocery store asked me if i wanted to sign up for $5 and receive $45 worth of coupon. I said sure, thinking it was no more than $5/month. I received no newspaper for four months and no coupons, but I was charged over $90 for those months and all they could do was launch an investigation to see if I'd received those newspapers or not and if they decided I had then I'd get no refund. What a dishonest, underhanded way to run a company. unbelievable. I'd never recommend the ledger to anyone and I'll continue to tell people to go anywhere else for news. If you want a newspaper that is NEVER delivered on time in the morning, this is the paper for you. I call every morning and the the following message, "we are aware of a problem in your area, your paper will be delivered.....sometimes 9:30, sometimes 11:00". In Mid-October I was contacted by a person who was wanting to know if I needed to restart my subscription. I said yes I would like to restart. But if I had known that even though they TOOK the money immediately I would NOT receive any papers, I would not have restarted this service. My subscription was to start on Oct 20. A one star is too good for this paper. It should be a negative 10. And that is not even based on their news. It's based upon their business practices. All reputable companies should require an email verification before the account is created. This basic step would prevent people from setting up accounts with an address that is not theirs. The Ledger does not have an email verification step. Someone else signed me up for The Lakeland Ledger digital edition. Seems they don't know their own email address. I've tried many times to unsubscribe my email address. I've received ONE response asking for my address and phone #. I am not giving the full information for either to The Ledger. I am not and never will be a customer. I gave them general area info as I'm in a different state. They should be able to see from my full name and state that I am not the person that signed up for an account. I continue to receive emails. They have ignored my requests. I've been receiving their unwanted emails since at least 2018. It is now 2022. They are idiots. I will be reporting them to the FTC. Emailed, called left messages on Vmail several times and spoke with receptionist which I advised we were billed however no one returned 1 call, email or vmail and no ad was ever put online. The worst Customer Service. I called to day to set a subscription to the Winter Haven News Chief. Instead of the Rep setting up for that, instead she set me up for the Sarasota Herald. Then I am informed that she cannot fix it and will have to contact her supervisor, who is out to get it fixed. Almost an hour later I am still waiting for a call back and no hope in site of getting this problem fixed. On top of all this, the phone rep is the most rude customer service rep I have ever talked too. Recently I subscribed to the Lakeland Ledger, Sunday paper. I received the first one, then nothing. I called (twice) after not receiving the paper the following 2 Sundays. I was also emailed by 2 Ledger employees who pledged I would get my paper. Again, nothing. I wrote them back and requested a full refund. Not sure it was returned or not but what a terrible customer experience! It sad because I really want to support the printed media and thoroughly enjoyed their Sunday edition. Terrible service. Ordered paper for daily delivery and it never comes. They took my money, but it's not being delivered. Called 8 times, still no paper being delivered. It comes for a day, then not for 3-4 days. This week I haven't received it for 5 days. They won't let you speak to someone in the delivery area, they just take your information and say they will escalate it. I live in a condominium complex and several people don't get their paper and its not getting fixed. Finally canceled. Too much of a headache! read more

I do not know what has happened to this paper. Use to be fun to read. Last year they sent the bill. It stated so many dollars for 7 day service. Then they decided to stop Sat edition as well as holidays. But they did not credit you any money back for that decision. This year they raised their rates. Called and got a little taken off. Never know if the paper will come or not. And when it does come the driver speeds thru the neighborhood and throws it and it slides into the ditch. The ditches are deep and wet so generally, when it is full of water, so is my paper. Could never get anyone to respond to this complaint. New subscription started this month. Yesterday I called and voice mail said they were aware of the problem and it would be delivered by 11. It was. Today nothing. Called and they said they would extend my subscription. Last year I missed several weeks. And when I asked them about taking off for the ones I did not get they said instead they did not charge me for other things. What other things? Don,t even know what they are talking about. This paper is for my 93 year old mother. She spends hours reading it. If the paper is suppose to be delivered why don't they deliver it? I have been a subscriber to The Ledger for over thirty years. I agreed to once a month billing a few years ago as I am on a limited budget and they have billed my checking account 24 times not 12 (one for each month) in the last 12 months, creating my account to possibly overdraw. When I called they said they would have billing call me. Three requests and I still have not heard back. I decided to cancel as they can charge my account anything they want without any explanation sent. Other business's send out notices when any change of price is done. I subscribed to this newspaper while shopping at Macys a lady had a table set up to get new customers. I gave them my credit card number to pay for the 1st month. I received the paper for 2 weeks and cancelled which meant I had 2 weeks more of paper delivery and they would stop. I didnt receive any more papers after that but they charged me for a 2nd month. I have called customer service 5 times with no refund. I have filed a dispute through my bank for charges. It's not right Ledger to put charges against a persons credit card when the subscription stops.. read more

This newspaper is a joke! They're not even worth 1 star. Do not count on having your newspaper delivered daily. If it does show up at your home, it's an intense hunt to find it. I paid my bill over a week ago, through their EZ pay system, received a payment confirmation that day, and still haven't received my newspaper. The Ledger personnel tell me they can't start my newspaper until they see I've paid. Since when does an electronic payment take longer than the US postal service? An update, so you know what kind of customer service they offer: It's been over a week since I made the online payment through their EZ pay system. I have a payment confirmation email. They STILL have no record that I've paid. They are unable to assist over the phone and only tell me that they can't do anything until they see I've paid. Two days ago, I forwarded my payment confirmation to The Ledger, via email. I asked them to re-start my subscription and explain why their online payment system is slower than mail service. The Ledger.... is anyone listening....I do not mind paying an extra cost...but get your act together....I do not know how much it cost for paper you print on, but there have been many, many times when you have printed the same crossword puzzles two days in a row....or the same comics two days in a row....how about two papers on the same day during "Dorian".. I commend you, but four pages were blank.... and then I have to tip my hat to the "GENIUS" that puts the crossword puzzle back to back on the same page... try sharing that with your partner at breakfast every morning (this seems to happen every Mon. and Tues.)
