Ava's has remodeled since the last time that I was in. They knocked out a wall which made the bakery much more open. It looks great, honestly. It also allows for seating inside and access to the seating out on the patio more easily accessible. The cases are rearranged now and they've added gelato. I didn't try that, but it looked interesting. The worker who waited on me was so kind and helpful, and apologized for answering the phone while I was in there (there was no need, because you're running a business, I get it), but she was so polite! They always have a fun assortment of flavors of cupcakes but it's rather hit or miss what quality you will get. They have fun combinations and flavors and are always beautiful, but sometimes they are quite dense, sometimes super moist, and sometimes dry and will nearly choke you. My default cupcake is always the yellow cake with chocolate icing. I feel like it's hard to mess up. However, I tried a cookie this most recent time and didn't love it. It was really thick and hard to eat. The flavor wasn't great, either. This is definitely somewhere to stop in and try- just to say you did it. They were on Cupcake Wars, after all. read more

It looks nice inside after they remodeled and upped their presentation case. I got a selection of four cupcakes - pink champagne and strawberries, chocolate truffle, Dubai chocolate cupcake and chocolate covered strawberry. As well as a crossiant cookie, or crookie. The frosting on all were sickeningly sweet. I scraped most of it off and just ate the cake part. Even on day one I found the chocolate covered strawberry cupcake to be dried out. And the chocolate coating had a strange oily flavor. The only cupcake I partly enjoyed was the kataifi filling in the Dubai chocolate cupcake. The crookie was okay. Very little of the chocolate chip cookie part had a crunchy crust. It mostly felt like eating raw dough texture if that's your thing. I wanted so bad to like the cupcakes but they were overpriced for the size and dry on day one. I'm a local so I will eventually try them out again. But, if I was visiting from out of town then I sadly would not return. read more

This baker has WON cupcake wars!!! You can't get a higher accolade. And yes the cupcakes were wonderful!!! But so were the cookies. They were big enough to cut into three pieces and share. Next time I'm going to try the gelato. I still can't believe I didn't take any pictures inside or of the cupcakes. I'll see if there are any left when I get home from work... but I doubt it. read more

Delicious!! My partner picked up some pastries for us before a weekend road trip. He got a couple croissants - peanut butter and jelly for me and a chocolate cherry cheesecake for himself. We really enjoyed both and I would definitely like to try a cupcake or cookie next time. Service was good and prices are great for serving size and taste! @azfitfoodfun read more

I was curious about this place and seeing that the owner was on cupcake wars made it intriguing. Nice ambiance. We ordered 4 cupcakes, requested top sellers. All had a substantial amount of icing. I found it to be dense & unnecessary given that the star of the show should be the actual cupcake. We scraped 1/2 off. To be fair, we waited to sample them at room temperature as they were too cold to eat directly from the display case. The cupcakes missed the mark in flavor and texture. The flavor is in the icing not so much the cupcake. I couldn't determine the descriptive names by simply biting into them, which was a disappointment. read more

The store remodel looks good. My 3rd time going each time getting a new cupcake; I haven't finished one yet. I always scrape most of the icing off of the cupcake , I'm not a huge fan of icing that coats the inside of your mouth with a film. The cake part of the cupcake was DRY- like I needed something to drink DRY. Like very little moisture, very little bounce. 3rd time was not the charm- 3 cupcakes and they all fared the same; dry and over frosted. I'll continue to go to Dewey's although a bit out of the way. read more

Michelle Spell opened Ava's Cupcakes in 2011 in Rockaway, NJ. In 2012 she entered Food Network's Cupcakes War competition, a competition she won. In addition, her cupcakes have been featured in a number of national media outlets including the Today Show! This location opened in 2019 and is the sole spot open currently. It's a small place with only a couple of spots for dining in. The cupcakes, handpies, cookies, etc. are attractively placed in several display cases. I ordered 2 muffins - Key Lime and Butterscotch - and 2 hand pies - Chocolate and Cherry! This is damn good stuff! Now the cupcakes are the best of breed but the pies are worth a taste for sure - they are a bit more expensive than the muffins, seems a bit off. They know pastries here, and they are equipped to ship country wide! To have this spot in our area is awesome, hope you will find an opportunity to visit! read more

I've had better cupcakes from a third-rate grocery bakery. So profoundly disappointing.

Best cupcakes I've ever had and I've had a few ! We used to go to their location in NJ and now we've moved to Virginia.. we think it's well worth the 2 hour drive to get a great cupcake and do some antiquing near by. Salted Carmel is my favorite! But they are all yummy!!! And a plus that the people who work there are so nice! read more

My friend and I stumbled upon Ava's as we were next door getting pedicures. We saw the BIG Cupcake Wars sign and had to investigate - so glad we did! These were some of the best cupcakes I've tried ANYWHERE and the unique flavors were so fun! I tried the Dubai Chocolate Bar cupcake which was fabulous! Can't wait to go back next time I'm in Clemmons! read more

As one of the winners of *Cupcake Wars*, Ava's knows exactly what they're doing when it comes to cupcakes. With a gorgeous display case filled with traditional and inventive flavors, there's something for everyone! My boyfriend, who is not a dessert person by nature, is obsessed with their banana guava cupcake - he said it was "unlike any cupcake out there." The cakes are fluffy and moist, and the icing is cloud-soft. Definitely check them out for a delicious treat soon! read more

Ava's Cupcakes - L to R, top to bottom: banana guava, confetti, s'mores, red velvet, peanut butter chocolate, chocolate salted caramel - Bakeries Near Me - Clemmons, North Carolina

Nothing has changed about my original review for Ava's. They continue to be the absolute best place around to get some treats and cupcakes, not once have they failed to impress or have I received anything that might have tasted less than fresh. This is my go to place to get cupcakes for any occasion, and they should be yours too. My favorite recent discovery from their wide flavor selection is their key lime flavor. Banana guava is still my absolute favorite, but the flavor pop of the lime in this cupcake was so zesty and balanced with the sweetness of the cupcake, perfect for a warm day! Go to Ava's, you won't regret it! read more

Bottom line: A delicious red velvet cupcake experience from Ava's Cupcakes. Not overly sweet but just sweet enough with good red velvet taste and plentiful cream cheese icing. A tasty treat! The Deets: On the occasion of finally getting to see my parents (we are all fully COVID-19 vaccinated now!), they brought me a couple of red velvet cupcakes from Ava's Cupcakes near where they are from. As red velvet is one of my favorite cake types, I was excited to give these a try. In having my first bite, I was pleasantly greeted with great taste...a classic red velvet taste but not overpowering, nice and balanced. I like that the cupcake itself was sweet without being overly sweetened, again a good balance. It was a moist cupcake (was it the moistest cupcake ever for me, no, but certainly good and not dry and crumbly for sure). The cream cheese icing was tasty, a very good portion of it but just avoids being too massively overloaded. Overall, the red velvet cupcakes were delicious from Ava's and I would definitely visit this shoppe if I had an opportunity when in that area. read more

Nice, clean little cupcake and cake shop in the same strip as Full Moon Oyster Bar and Mario's Pizza. I went in to get a cake but the nice lady told me you have to order (custom / personalized) cakes a couple of days in advance. I went with a couple of cupcakes and they were pricey but delicious looking. Worth checking out...fun fact, they have a 'Food Network' sign on the front window so one would assume they appeared on one of the many cupcake competition shows on there. read more

A friend dropped these off for us and they are officially my favorite cupcake in the Winston/Clemmons area! The cupcake itself is moist and has great flavor and the icing is the perfect amount of sweet. I also LOVE that these all had a filling of some sort, it really gave the cupcake that extra depth in flavor. The 4 flavors we got were strawberry champagne, margarita, cookie dough and banana guava. My two favorites were the strawberry and the cookie dough (which are the ones I got a picture of the inside of). We will DEFINITELY be stopping by to get more ASAP! read more

I had just come out of paradise nails and was craving something sweet so I decided to check out Ava's cupcake. Upon arrival, I was greeted and asked if I had been in their store before. Then I was explained which cupcakes were seasonal, regular, and cream cheese frosted. I tried the seminal cinnamon pumpkin first which was AMAZING. The cake was spongy, flavorful, and moist. The frosting was good because it was not overly sweet. For me, it's a 10/10. I saved the red velvet for the next day. My expectations were high since I tried the cinnamon pumpkin prior. I was a little disappointed, it was good but it was not spongy or moist as the cinnamon pumpkin. This could be because it needs to remain cold because of the crème cheese frosting. For me, it's a 8/10. Overall this place is good I'll definitely be back to try more of their seasonal cupcakes. read more

Ava's Cupcakes is founded by Michelle Spell, the winner of the 4th season of the popular Food Network show, "Cupcake Wars". Winston-Salem is extremely fortunate to be the location she chose to open her cupcake shop. I've tried about 8 different cupcakes so far, and each one is packed with their own unique flavor, including creme brulee, apple pie, and s'mores. Contrary to other cupcake shops around WS, the sweetness level of these cupcakes are within an acceptable range and will not make you frantically grab the closest glass of water to wash down the sugar. Although the sweetness can be slightly underwhelming at times and the fluffiness of the cupcake itself can be a bit too much, their cupcakes are still worth trying out! WORTH IT? YES, they are the BEST cupcake shop in Winston-Salem and the greater Triad area (Overall 8/10) read more

All their cupcakes are at least 8/10, apple pie is 10/10! Amazing cupcake place that won on an episode of Food Network's cupcake wars with their apple pie and banana guava flavored cupcakes. The quality of their cupcakes are INSANE and they have a plethora of flavors. Love that they have seasonal cupcakes during holidays or as the season change. I've shown multiple friends Ava's cupcakes and they are blown away every time even if they don't have a sweet tooth. I've tried basically all of their flavors, my favorites include apple pie, caramel apple, oreo, and creme brûlée. Most of the cupcakes have filling, a great frosting to cake ratio, and a very fluffy cupcake base. I find the frosting very sweet and often do not eat all of it but is a great occasional drink. Always great service as well and clean store interior. read more

The sweet sweet smell of sugar hits you strong when you open the door. It's almost nauseating , but in the best way. As you walk in you see the display and the cupcakes are so beautiful and SO "instagrammable", and the flavors are not your typical cupcake flavors. There's pink champagne and strawberries, Samoa, banana and guava ..! So many! I seriously had a hard time deciding. Luckily I went on a Monday so all cupcakes were $1 off! Anyways, I've never been impressed by cupcakes. They look cute, frosting is always the same and boring. I've been to a "Cupcake Wars winner" store before and thought it was just okay. Ava's is a different story. The cake was moist, the frosting each had a distinct flavor to it that had just the right amount of sweetness, and there was hidden treats inside! The blueberry cobbler had a blueberry compote filling, the Samoa had maybe some kind of peanut butter caramel but it was delicious, and the pina colada had pineapples it, the banana guava had guava jelly. I'm so impressed I can't wait to go back and try more of their unique flavors. There are also vegan and GF cupcakes too which is awesome. I can't wait to come back and take my girls! read more

These cupcakes are amazing. The bases are very moist and the ones we tried with filling were well balanced. The frostings were light and not overly sweet. The store itself is cute and the staff was very nice. We were able to sample a few cupcakes before we bought them. My son loved the cookie dough cupcake. We tried the peanut butter cupcake which is really good. The peanut butter frosting is very light and creamy. I also really liked the cannoli cupcake. They also had a selection of cakes, cookies, and scones if you do not want a cupcake. I will be back the next time we want a cupcake. read more

Cupcakes were good. Young lady did her best but she had no clue how to make coffee. A+ for effort.

Lovely cupcakes.. locations are great, tasty and delicious cupcakes.. good for parties.

Service was horrible. My fiancé called to make the $130 deposit and they billed my bank account $535. I called to have the situation rectified and although they said the money was credited to my bank account I never received it. I called to speak to a manager and they were extremely rude and unprofessional. As of the writing of this I have yet to receive a refund for the cake order I cancelled. Shop elsewhere. read more

Can't believe I haven't left a review for Ava's yet. We've been here a few times now since moving to the Triad in 2019, including the first night we moved in. Lace was particularly excited to try them as she knew about them from food network. I'm actually not usually too excited about cupcakes. Don't get me wrong, I'll eat them, but I usually find them dry and unimpressive. For cupcakes, Ava really does a great job! The banana guava, which is award winning, is the must get item! That is, if you're lucky enough that they're still available! Their other cupcake flavors are great too, but the banana guava is in a stratosphere of its own. We have also gotten cookies from them, which are the big sandwich kind with nice cream in the middle. They do larger cakes as well, but we haven't tried those yet. Looks like they do not offer by the slice. In any case, certainly worth a trip over to Clemmons for some sweets! read more

Disappointed. All the accolades drew me in but I got a very dry gingerbread cupcake with overly sugary buttercream icing.

Love the cupcakes and the cakes! Will definitely be returning in the future. Prices are reasonable also!

I have been to Ava's a few times now- every time I have experienced quality service and delicious cupcakes. They are usually experimenting with flavors but have a set group of classics that never disappoint. I have also tried their macarons, which were tasty as well! I wouldn't say they are the best bakery around but that is because of the stiff competition that exists in Winston Salem for bakeries. Are they one of the top competitors? Absolutely. If you enjoy top quality cupcakes Ava's is a must. read more

Stopped in with my mom because they had gluten free cupcakes and my mom had celiacs. Best decision ever. I got three different cupcakes: toasted coconut, apple pie and creme brûlée. Holy smoke. It took me 5 days to eat them and they all stayed perfect. Highly recommend for a special treat! read more
