Love the store so much that I would give it 5, but going to give it 4 because of the lack of hellos (none), customer service (none), and unfriendly staff until you ask them to please hold your goods while still shopping around. We recently popped into this store and were pleasantly surprised by the inventory and prices. We got a Coach leather satchel for work, a pair of Jordans, a pair of Frye boots, a Brooks Brothers jacket, a Pendelton shirt, a pair of Sorel brand new boots, a pair of Merrel boots, a few wool sweaters, Eddie Buaer pants, a few hoodies, a necklace and earrings--well over 1k worth of items in nearly new or brand new condition for about $250. Yep, two stars...could have been better! I gave this store two stars, one star for a decent inventory and one star for location. I took away three stars for the coldness and rude behavior from the girls working the register and because some of the the clothes are overpriced. It was my first time in that store and if I decide to go back, I will know what to expect upon entering. I was reflecting on an episode of Broad City, where Abby and Ilana go into a consignment store and are treated like absolute s*&t from the girl working behind the register...HA! Anywho......I do wonder however if the owner knows how many reviews are reflective of the actions and behavior of their employees? Time to hire somebody new with a pleasant personality, who can represent your business and connect with the customers, as we all know how important repeat customers are in any type of business. read more

if i'm gonna over pay for vintage i'd rather support some random person on depop. the people who work here have never been kind. i went today to ask about the fabric of their yoga pants. they seemed to not want to tell me? i looked it up online and found they are cheaper online. to be honest i don't know why they are so rude to people. so many friends of mine have told me stories of the unpleasant demeanor of the workers, and for it to be this consistently negative, they must not need much business! read more

Great boutique with new and gently worn designer clothing. I'd purchased some cute items at A.G., in the past but the salespeople needed some serious training in customer service. Every time I was on the verge of inquiring about a particular frock, I'd felt I was intruding, for they seemed far too engaged in conversations with each other. A.G., I'll be happy to give them four or more stars, just as soon as their employees tone down their Beverly Hills attitude, and show some respect to their customers. Engaging in conversation with your clientele, or at the very least answering their questions as if you're interested would help a great deal. I was visiting from Seattle and Avant Garb would give any vintage/thrift store in the city a run for its money. It's an extremely well-curated consignment shop selling both used and new items. I noticed a large selection of Free People dresses and knits by Velvet, Ella Moss and Splendid. They also have a nice collection of new Hobo International bags and clutches for over 50% off; what amazing steals! I found a lovely Floreat blouse originally sold at Anthropologie and paid only $18 for it. The only negatives were the small shoe selection and apathetic salespeople. read more

I'm an avid ebay shopper, so I occasionally find that I've purchased something that is lovely, but just not my taste. I've gotten in the habit of giving these items new life by taking them to Avant Garb, my favorite Ashland consignment shop. The clerks tend to be picky about what they'll take, but if you bring them quality clothing, you can expect to be fairly paid for your contribution. The shopping selection varies from season to season. Sometimes you'll find some really awesome designer pieces, and sometimes it seems like the place is just filled with tattered Wet Seal blouses and stinky sweaters. The staff is unusually withdrawn and not very friendly, but they seem to be very hard working at the same time. Still, I keep coming back. read more

This is one of my favorite places to get clothes in Ashland. They are a mix of consignment and new clothes. If you are looking for goodwill prices, this is not the place for you. Their clothes are consigned with care and the prices reflect that. But you can find some unique pieces and they have some nice accessories. read more

Spent quite a while here while we were on vacation in Ashland. The store is organized, in some random sort of way. The staff was not friendly, they did not offer any help and barely said hello. Pricing seemed a little off kilter but they had some great sales racks. read more

This place was always a hit or miss for me. Some of my friends would go in and score designer jeans or North Face jackets for cheap, while I would always leave empty handed. I did manage to get a sweet pair of sunglasses here one time. They seem to have a good selection of clothes but for being re-sale everything is still really expensive. It's clean, and organized, but not worth the mark-up. For example, something that is from Target should not be sold for about the same price it was when it was orginally sold in stores. I would say if you are walking downtown to stop in and see what you can find, but don't come in expecting a lot. Also the workers here were always cold and rude. read more

Extremely helpful and friendly staff! First time I went in to trade some clothing in, the girl at the front desk (don't know her name yet) talked to me about other ways to get money for my brand name clothes. She was genuinely trying to help me get the most out of what I brought in. I've been to other consignment shops and the staff are not nearly as nice, they are often stuck up, but not here! They have a very wide selection of clothing and tons of accessories to choose from which are fairly priced. Not too many famous designer pieces though. read more

This place just majorly bummed me out by closing early. I was ready to shop for the last 20 minutes of business but when I got there they were closed. I guess you can't blame them for wanting to get out a little early on a Monday but I was really looking forward to shopping here on my way through town. Avant Garb is a high end consignment shop that eclipses the other choices in Ashland which include Deja Vu and Goodwill. AG offers new clothes as well from boutique stalwarts like Miss Me and Free People, but the focus is on recycled fashion. Shoe girls like myself tremble at finding gently worn Fluvogs, Pliners, Danskos and Mephistos at oh so reasonable prices. The half-off section at the back of the store can score the eagle-eyed thrifter a Cavalli skirt for $10 or boutique dresses from the pricey stores like Nimbus along Siskyou at precipitous discounts. AG is a necessary stop for fashion-minded visitors to Ashland of either gender. read more

I love this place! I'm a size 14 tall and I think I run on the large end of the sizes they carry here, but nonetheless I've scored some fantastic finds at this place over the last few years. This shop was laid out beautifully and was very well organized with a lot of clothing selection. On the downside, the vast majority of sizes are small and medium, and the prices were quite high. I probably won't return as the other shops around had a much better selection of sizes and lower prices. read more

Avant Garb is such a gem. They have a large selection and plenty of sales racks with great finds. Their weakness lies in customer service. Even if you're the only person shopping, they won't greet you or thank you when you leave. If you're walking around with lots of items, they don't offer to start a room for you. These are easy things to do that greatly help the quality of a store. If you're a solo shopper and don't want assistance, this is a great place! If you're looking for personal interaction, go elsewhere. read more

I had a great many boho/vintage clothes to consign so I took them into AG. I mean, many of them were brand new with tags! Blue Sky, Rising International and Sacred Threads were some of the brands. I felt they would really be a great find for many people, particularly in Ashland. I was completely shocked and unprepared for the treatment and attitude I received from the salespeople. They looked down their noses at me and informed me that none of my stuff would sell and that they are "very picky", whatever that means. Again, a lot of this stuff was brand new and true vintage clothing. I looked at some of the merchandise in the shop and it appeared to be threadbare and lackluster, in my opinion. I have no reason to ever go into that shop again. read more

I just stumbled into Avant Garb today today and it was so great! I usually take my things down to Deja Vu for consignment but I usually don't find clothes that I really like there. Avant Garb is a little bit more expensive than other consignment stores, but their clothes are much more current than Deja Vu. I miss Avant Garb so much! I shopped and even worked here when I lived in Ashland. I've since lived in several places (NYC and New Mexico) and no consignment store comes close in terms of quality, organization, and experience (ps if you think AG is picky or pricey I suggest trying any consignment store in NYC, Portland, or Santa Fe to see how great AG is). I have to say though, I noticed some of the reviewers have criticized the staff. I don't know the staff there now but I did want to mention that I know from experience that the staff there are much busier than at a normal boutique where you're used to the syrupy sales girl following you around. They are constantly looking through clothes people bring in, explaining policy, security tagging the new items, entering them into a computer, tagging them, steaming them, ringing up sales, organizing a large store, and putting clothes away. Obviously there's no excuse for being rude, but it was my experience that sometimes being distracted with all those tasks could be preceived that way. The owner of AG is one of the nicest and most generous people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I know she's working hard to bring stylish and afforable clothes to Ashland! read more

I went into Avant Garb today to see if they would take some clothes for consignment. The girl behind the counter was looking at one skirt and said I would have to leave my goods and she would look at them. I said I would wander around the store until she had a chance to look at them. I have to say that the quality of the items was not there today, a lot of black and brown stuff and nothing cute. After spending ten minutes looking around, I checked to see if the girl had looked at my clothes. She was busy talking to the other girls behind the counter and not checking out clothes. I gave her another five minutes, then I went up to the counter to retrieve my bag. She looked startled and said she was sorry........... I have encountered this type of attitude before. These girls are very snooty and, depending on who is looking at the clothes, look down on the clothes you have brought in. I took a blouse in and the girl said it wasn't what they were looking for. I had taken the very same blouse, in a different color, in a month before and they took it for consignment and it sold quickly. I, for one, will never frequent this store again. Customer service is very important to me and you will not find it here. read more
