"Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee" (Peter, Paul and Mary) Some of our disappointment with Autumn Mist was based on our false assumption that they had a sit-down restaurant on their premises. Why did we assume that? Well, their big on-line menu coupled with its reference to "restaurant" on their website sure had something to do with it. Here's a quote from their website: "Our Farm-to-Table Restaurant & Retail oasis is a celebration of community, sourcing all of the all-natural beef we serve from our farm, just minutes away!" So, we were pretty surprised to only see an ordering counter and freezer cases when we walked in. But we did get over our disappointment when we walked around their showroom where the walls were jam packed with meats and prepared foods in refrigerated and freezer cases. Steaks, roasts, soups, and prepared entrees were everywhere. The selection was pretty dazzling. We learned that they had a nice feature with their prepared entrees, namely buy one get a second for half off. We bought a two pretty big frozen trays of Chicken Marsala with rice and broccoli, and beef Stir Fry with veggies and noodles. I just put them on our kitchen scale, and each are between a pound and a pound and a half. One was $10.70 and the second was marked down to $5.35, so that's at least two (probably more) very nice dinners for around $8 each. One sour note was the unsmiling, unfriendly cold shoulder customer service experience. Barely a word was spoken by the woman who processed our order.

Quality meat, delicious burgers and good prices. I always stop in and leave with a bunch of frozen meat. Shop local, and support the farm!

Only outdoor seating if you can stand the weather, or get your items to go, but steak and cheese grinder was on point .

I called in an order for steaks this past Saturday. I have to say usually the staff there is…read moreextremely attentive in the meat area. Saturday though, there was a different crew there. The person who took my order over the phone was great and helpful. I explained I would be there at 345 to pick up my order. No problem he said. I got there and waited. It would not be a concern at all if I didn't observe 2 people over by the meat cases standing there looking at me. No comment or welcome. No hello. Just kept ignoring me while they occasionally glanced over pretending not to see me. There were 3 other people on the meat area where they cut it up. 2 lounging against the door frames and one who appeared to be cleaning everything while the other 2 looked on. Teamwork at its finest. They also saw me and ignored me as well. After a while I asked if there was anyone not busy standing around who could just hand me my order. The guy who was pretending not to see me came over. No apology or thank you. Nothing. Not a word. The cashiers and front end staff are consistently great. Very welcoming and friendly. This was the first time I went in on a Saturday. Not typical of the service I get. I paid 346.00 for my order. Will never go back on a Saturday again. I think your cashiers should probably teach Customer Service skills to your back room. I left there totally irritated.

They have the perfect cuts that I need for certain dishes also, as well as the convenience of having other items such as french fries, vegetables, pies, and desserts that can be purchased frozen in bulk. So I'm still a little confused but I guess this place use to be on the other side of the lake? Then…read morethey merged with the Pizza Place? Then they bought the pizza Place? Now they do BBQ and Pizza? ... And something else too? Idk, But anyways. The "Craft Meats" always through me off a bit because I associate that with like a Hillshire farms meat and cheese platter type of food. Apparently I'm not wrong about that but the money maker is absolutely a traditional BBQ joint. They offered a 2 or 3 meat combo but I was just feeling some Ribs and Brisket for meat that day. If you don't want to read then I'll say that for the most part this is a really good place, but it's not as traditional as you might hope for. There isn't many places I'd go back to but this is one of them. Ribs were very different than any other ribs I've ever had. I wish I knew my meat cuts better because I don't know what it means when sometime the ribs curve inward like Crazy! Almost like they make a complete 180 degree turn. And this meat looks almost like it was boiled and then baked. The website talks about hickory smoking and I do believe them but ... I know it's meat but after going to all these other places and seeing that nice redness and spiced rub and glazey meat, it's hard to look at this backwoods survival looking meat and get excited. First few bites I could taste like it had a salty brine. Actually the taste was pleasant enough, nothing bad, just not that ... I don't know what to call it "American BBQ Belt Style"? Brisket wasn't super moist but I wouldn't say dry. Bit of a black pepper element for flavor but other than that it's like the flavor is JUST smoke. It fell apart really nicely, nice corned beef texture and look to it. I barely saw any fat on it so it wasn't getting any help from that. I almost want to say "dry aged" but I'm not to sure. Beans were a traditional red bean in a red bean gravy, Smokey BBQ sauce taste and smell to it, couple translucent peppers maybe yellow bell or onion just fell apart cause it was so tender. Gritty texture but more smoother than I thought it would be. The bean sauce left a sweet sensation on the tongue but it leaves a little bit of a kick too. This is really close to that red bean stuff they put on rice in the Caribbean and it's awesome! Mac and Cheese was creamy and hot. It looked a little too creamy for me at first but after I scooped out the first bite it became more like a baked gritty texture. First thoughts were "Strange". The cheese sauce flavor almost reminded me of instant powdered potatoes. I could see the real orange cheddar cheese in there but I couldn't taste any of it. The only real flavors I could point out were the tiny tiny bit of black pepper and the butter that probably boiled with pasta. Bread Pudding I saw on the menu and thought "what the hell, why not?" especially after they told me something about having a peach topping to it. I completely forgot I ordered it by the time I took it out of the bag and I was blown away about the size! I don't know if it's always supposed to be this big but it completely filled the area of a typical aluminum pie tray! Come to find out after biting into it that the peaches are actually Part of the Bread Pudding, it was Peach Bread Pudding! With Cinnamon and Sweet Butter on Top! I'm even more blown away by it because I remember just asking if they even had desserts available and they immediately pointed at a few cookies wrapped in saran wrap on the counter, Then some brownies, and THEN they said they do have some bread pudding almost like they were ashamed of it or something. Cornbread was triangle cut out of a traditional round pie pan like a slice of pie, never seen that before. Tiny little bit of charred bits on the side that looked more like it was too close to some open flames but not close enough to actually burn. But oh my god it was some of the best corn bread I've ever had, this was REAL cornbread! Tasted like buttered corn on the cob! Gritty and authentic the way it's supposed to be. Had to try one of their cookies just because it seemed like they were very proud of them. Chocolate Chip cookie, soft, moist, little bit of a crunch on the edge, plenty of chocolate chips almost half chips half cookie, little bit of salt in the mix too, perfect! Sauces: "Tangy" (gold) and "Sweet". I could tell before even tasting them they were very thick and not many ingredients to see. More than likely it's some mass produced stuff but neither of them would have made the ribs taste better IMO.

We paid our first visit to CPC today, and really enjoyed the food…read more COVID has all but closed the dining room, and the big sheets of plexiglass between you and the masked counterpersons are a sad reminder of where we are today. However, despite all those necessary adjustments, CPC dished up some terrific barbecue for us. We ordered a brisket plate ($15) and pulled pork plate ($13) to go. Each plate came with a slab of cornbread and your choice of 2 sides. We selected sweet potato fries, mac and cheese, Baked BBQ beans, and cheese grits. The meals were served with 2 containers of BBQ sauce -Sweet St. Louis and Tangy Memphis. We made up a few combination plates for dinner tonight, and both of us agreed that the food was very good. Let's start with the meat, because, after all, this is a BBQ place. I liked the brisket a lot, once you trimmed the slices, they were very lean, very meaty, very tasty and plain old excellent. The slices were on the thicker side, but I didn't mind that one bit. The pork was tender and juicy and full of flavor. I added some of that Sweet St. Louis sauce to my plate, and it was great, with tons of flavor and no heat. I sampled three of the sides and thought the Gold Medal Winner was the mac and cheese. It had a luxurious texture and was loaded with cheesy goodness. The grits were excellent too. My wife and I split opinions on the cornbread, I liked it more than she did, and I think that's because it wasn't as sweet or as moist as the cornbread we've had in the past at various BBQ joints.. We also picked up two pieces of smoked salmon we'll target for dinner this week. All of that ran us less than $40, so we think the value is pretty darned good. The location is gorgeous, you are right next to the North Pond Marina of Lake Congamond so you can watch the boats from their outdoor patio if you're in the mood to do some people and boat watching. I'm sure we will be back because the BBQ options around here are few and far between.
