I have five cars. I've been buying my batteries and car parts from AutoZone in McHenry, IL, since they opened. I changed to them from O'Reilly's and Advanced Auto. I've never had any issues. They've always been professional, fast, helpful, and affordable. If a battery went bad, they swapped it. This weekend, I got a manager who seemed not to appreciate customers. He was smug and curt with me. When I walked up to the counter, I gave the battery to the kid and told him it was dead; I wanted to swap it. They told me they had a charge overnight. I told him I had charged it overnight myself. It wouldn't hold a charge. The last time I swapped a battery, it didn't need to be charged overnight. At that time in May 2025, I told the guy I charged it didn't work, and he swapped it. I told the manager the story and asked whether it was a new policy. He said the last swap wasn't policy. Okay, now it's policy that they charge it overnight. I explained to him that I had a car sitting in the middle of the road and I needed a battery. So I told them to sell me a new battery, take the old one as a core, but charge it overnight, and let me know if it's really bad. I waited 24 hours and drove back in. Same smug manager. Short with me. Said yeah, we took it, but you gave it as a core. I said, "Yeah, I gave it as a core, but told you to charge it first." He said, " Yeah, but when you give it as a core, we just ship it out. I had told the guy at the counter twice to charge it for me to make sure it's good. I even yelled down the registers to the manager to make sure you charge it for me. Obviously, he had made up his mind that he was not going to work with me. At my age, I know lots of car guys who are shopping there for parts. That's going to end today. I don't know what the guy's problem was, but the look on his face told me he wasn't going to work with me. I've been buying all kinds of car parts from there. Really like the store. I always like working with the guys there. But this manager, I have nothing good to say about my interactions with him. They could have told me right there that if you give it as a core, we won't charge for it. They didn't. They knew what they were doing. They screwed me out of my $200 battery. Rock auto is cheaper, but I try to support local businesses. This guy wants his store to be on the list of businesses that close in McHenry. I'm happy to help him reach his goal. Now it's my turn to earn that money back in spades with bad reviews every chance I get. read more

My battery died at work. I got a jump from a colleague and headed straight to autozone. Carlos took care of me. Provided information in a supportive, non-pushy, manner. He then installed my battery, which he could have refused due to my specific car model. Carlos is a great dude. We chatted about life, work, and meaning. Solid guy with a great heart and mind. I tried tipping him for his service and he refused. Truly a great young man. I'm now a life customer here thanks to Carlos and his team. read more

I came in on a Friday evening looking for coolant for my husband's BMW. I was not 100% sure where to place the coolant and did not want to mess it up. The wonderful employee working helped informed me he had just sold his own BMW and would be happy to help me. He helped me choose the correct coolant, confirmed where the coolant needed to be placed, and even poured the coolant in for me. He was so sweet and helpful. came in for an oil filter and the cashier Billy was very nice, however, when it came time to pay there was a technical error with the cash register and Billy went to get the manager to sort it out and the manager was very rude towards the cashier and used profanity when trying to help him with this simple problem and it really rubbed me the wrong way considering the cashier was around the same age as me. read more

Awesome auto parts store! I needed to get freon for my car because it was low and the a/c was hotter than the Sahara Desert. Unfortunately I did not know how much my car needed, so I asked the employee and he quickly looked up the proper amount and I bought a can that filled it up about half way because I'm cheap. Also I needed a new oil plug since mine had seen a lot of milage. He also quickly looked that up and got the part I needed. Great customer service and great parts. I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to Jim at your location. I came into the shop in a sheer panic after my car broke down on Randall Rd. He could sense I was out of my element and put me at ease right away. Not only did he put the machine on my car to check my battery but once it came back as bad battery he talked to me about my choices. Wanted to order a strut assembly online and the website was not working . called into the store and asked for my part from a young lady who didn't work at the store . I told her the part was for the passengers side of the vehicle and to double check that it was the correct part . she assured me it was the right part only to get it delivered to my house and find out it was the wrong side . I called the store and the manager Amanda was extremely helpful . my only tip would be to check your parts before you leave the store to save the trip . read more
