Their thorough and honest evaluation uncovered a long list of mechanical and cosmetic issues that the dealership failed to disclose -- and ultimately saved me from buying a ticking time bomb. They found replaced front fenders, bumper, and hood with overspray and missed paint areas, missing mud flaps, wheel center caps, and antenna, a broken mirror, and brake pads barely passing at 4/32. Even more concerning were leaking front axle seals, an upper oil pan leak with residue on the lower pan (which requires the engine to be pulled to repair), and two open recalls that hadn't been addressed. Their attention to detail and clear communication gave me peace of mind and likely saved me thousands in future repairs. With Husband deployed, I needed a reliable vehicle for myself and four children. The purchase process was very fast. Only took about 3 hours. Salesman Brian was nice and answered questions about vehicle. However, a month later, the front tires on the vehicle stopped holding air. So I took the car to a tire shop and found out that the tires are too worn and dry rotted to fix, by Maryland law they would have to be replaced. I called Leonardtown Ford, talked to manager Jim and he informed me that it's a certified vehicle and it's not his problem if I drove over a nail. I agreed, but told him that these tires wouldn't pass inspection anywhere else. I sent him pictures and he said there was plenty of tread on them. See picture attached..He wanted me to drive over an hour to his location with bad tires so his inspector could look at them and if his inspector said I don't need a new tire, then he obviously wouldn't be replacing it. I asked if it would be ok to go to the ford dealership 10 min from my then current location and have a ford inspector look at it there and have that inspector report back to him. I didn't feel comfortable driving the long distance with the current tires. Jim said he didn't trust any other inspector than his at his ford dealership. He seemed apathetic to the situation. Now maybe if I did drive over an hour to get to him, maybe he would've rectified it. However past comments of "it's certified", "tire shop is upselling you" etc, I felt like it would've been a waste of time. My family already sacrifices a lot and risking safety is a non negotiable for me. I ended up purchasing new tires at Mr. Tire right around the corner from me. Disappointing to have to purchase tires right after purchasing a $50k+ vehicle and with an extended warranty, but I can't put a price on my childrens' safety. So if you are in the market, don't let Leonardtown Ford boast about a car being certified. I don't think their inspecting process is as strict as it should be.
