My car battery died on my way home from shopping. Luckily, I was close to Costco Brentwood so i bought the battery there. I didn't know Costco does not install batteries in your car. I called a couple of places: O'Reilly Antioch said they don't do it if it's not an O'Reilly battery. Then Another Auto Zone doesn't have anyone to install a battery until the next day in the afternoon. My last call was to Auto Zone in Oakley. Ethan answered the call & said "Sure, we can help you with that." I asked if I could come right away and his answer was, "Yeah, come on over." Ethan was just finishing up with a customer. When I told him that I called about installing a battery in my car. He went with me outside to asses what needed to be done & what tool he needed. He confidently said, "Oh, that's simple." He took the new battery from the trunk of my car then excused himself to get the tool he needed to do the job. He came out immediately. He worked quickly expertly & confidently in changing the old battery with the new one. He was done in less than 10 minutes. I really appreciate his skill, politeness & professionalism. Then when I asked how much I owed him, he said: "No charge!" That topped the cake! I highly recommend Auto Zone of Oakley in Main Street. Thumbs up to Ethan! read more

Honestly doesn't deserve a single star. The experience I had today along with my grandfather was unprofessional. I went in to exchange an air filter for my vehicle. The employee who assisted me was a "manager in training" but proceeded to tell me my vehicle part wasn't returnable or exchangeable because I ordered online from AutoZone. 1. Did not make any sense when the return barcode on the app stated returnable at any location. 2. Previously had an experience of returning parts I did not need when maintenancing my car and had a smooth return transaction This store has unprofessional employees, who treat not only female customers rudely but elderly. She gave up trying to help me while a regular part time worker made use of my time and was more helpful than her. Put my items down along with my military veterans card. He asked a manager to help him. Apparently it wasn't for what I thought it was. Customer service with the lady employees is kinda shitty. Early morning lady made me wait while her customer was still shopping and adding things. Instead of waiting till she was done. I finally had to say something for her to realize that I wasn't going to wait until that lady was done. Ring me up now please I walked up to the only person at tue counter which was Brandi, the store manager. She was busy typing SOMETHING and couldn't take the second to tell me someone would be right with me. Instead she continues typing and acted as if I wasn't there. Another male employee walked up and was helping someone and by chance another young lady walked up and Brandi says to her" can you do a solid and ring her up, Hey Brandi, work on that customer service , it only takes a second to make YOUR customers shopping experience better. Super glad that this is just down the street and they have a pretty large store with plenty of parking. I came here to charge my battery and left it with them. He said it would take an hour and a half to charge and that they would call me once it's finished. After 2 hours I call them and ask about it. Ethan places me on hold 10 minutes to look for my battery that was misplaced by his coworker. Then I come in to identify it because they just can't find it. Finally he finds it in the very back just sitting on the floor. It wasn't charged... at this moment I'm pissed. He said it would take an hour to charge. I mean I only needed 15% of a charge left. He connected it then said "4 minutes". I decide to wait in the store. However it took over 20 minutes. I know this because I stood there playing five 4-minute games of solitaire on my phone. During that time I found it unprofessional how loud the staff talked about their lazy coworkers and the manager stating "if I have to fix every one of your f**k-ups then what's the point of hiring you?" Not that it's any of my business but the conversation was loud and in the open for anyone to hear. read more

I had upgraded my battery in 2017 from a group size 51 to a Duralast-56. Unfortunately, there were changes made to the physical size by Duralast. I had to recert to a Durlast-51. The staff remved the old and installed the new battery. The 5 star rating was for the staff. If it were a rating for the Duralast battery company then 2 star for changing the dimensions of the size 56. read more

I've come here plenty of times for small things like windshield wiper fluid and headlight bulbs since they are close to home and convenient. Today I came in hoping to get my car's battery tested since I needed a jump the prior day and was stranded on my lunch break from work. Elizabeth was amazing, because she not only tested my battery but she also installed a new one for me immediately after I purchased my new one. I asked to watch her work so I'd know how to do it for myself in the future and she was very friendly and informative. I think Yelp needs to add negative stars. A 1 star rating is just too generous. First of all this store is really small. And it's pretty ghetto, with rough people hanging around it. But it was the closest one to us and we drove our diesel dually about 20 or so miles to get to this store. My husband called at 6pm asking if they had any diagnostic scanners for rent. They clerk said yes. We had a quick dinner and zoomed on over, arriving right around 8pm. My husband goes up to the counter and told the clerk that he called about a scanner. This clerk said that they don't rent scanners. My husband explained that he had just called 2hrs before and was told by an employee that it cost $70 to rent the scanner. Again this clerk said that they didn't rent scanners and that they have some to sell him for about $200+. The clerk then asks another clerk, and he said that they stopped renting them 2 days ago due to some legal thing. He thinks the clerk my husband spoke to just didn't get the message. So they were not apologetic or sympathetic. So we were SOL, wasting our time and expensive diesel. The reason why we brought the truck is so that we can just scan it right there in the parking lot and return the scanner right away. These guys were so unhelpful. My husband called other stores and they were renting the scanners. I finally rented one from the Clayton Rd. store in Concord. I explained what happened and he was so apologetic. He said that he's never heard of any legal problem with renting scanners. I would not suggest visiting the Oakley store. I don't think they know what they are doing over there. read more

I visited this location years ago looking for a cabin filter for my car. Too bad the employee at the counter didn't know what a cabin filter was, thought I meant an engine air filter and had to make me wait for another employee who knew what I meant. Fast forward to this past month: I'm changing the oil on my sister's car and found out I needed a certain socket. I head down to my favorite Kragen and pick one up, asking if it doesn't fit if I could bring it back since I wasn't totally sure if it was shallow enough to fit into the cramped engine bay. The guy says sure, just keep the packaging and receipt. Well, it wasn't shallow enough. With sunlight fading, I decided to try AutoZone for a more shallow socket. They had one, and I asked the guy the same question about returns. His answer was also yes, in original condition and receipt. Lo and behold...still no dice. The headers were still in the way. Turns out I needed a special socket for such a situation. So I first return the Kragen socket...with no problem. I even had the same employee end up helping me and he even remembered me after a week later. He seemed happy to help even though I was making a return. AutoZone was a different story. I walk in and there is one employee at the counter already helping someone. I hear someone in the back but it was like I was invisible for a good 3-4 minutes...and I work in a store were we have to greet customers within 30 *seconds* upon entering. Someone finally comes to the counter and asks if I need help but did so in such a quiet manner that I hardly knew he was there. I could see his expression of displeasure when he saw an item in one hand and a receipt in another. I explain the situation and he tells me that he cannot return it, as they do not accept returns of tools. I tell him that his fellow employee told me I could, as well as the fact that no such policy is shown on the receipt. He says this is a new policy he just got handed down from management and the other employee was misinformed. He gives me the hours of his manager and that's all he was willing to do. I left pretty upset but determined to get this taken care of. I called a week or so later and talked to a manager. He said that he would in fact accept a return as long as the item was unused and in original packaging...all criteria that my item met. I came in and the item was indeed returned, although said manager did not seem happy about it. He barely looked at me and only spoke to me when handing me my refund. My only happiness came from the fact that the guy who first told me that I couldn't return it had to enter in his password in order for the refund to go through. Long story short, even though the issue was taken care of, it was still a pain in the ass and too much BS and crappyy attitudes were involved. Kragen on Cypressin Oakley has always taken care of me, so I know where my and my friends' and family's business will go. read more

I've been shopping there for a few years, and I remember awhile back they had this punk kid working there who was rude, lazy, and basically didn't know jack. I guess it's hard to find good help, and apparently it's not always easy to get rid of bad employees. But instead of putting up with his attitude, I always just asked to talk to the parts manager instead. But apparently that kid is gone now, and the new staff seems much better. But recently I was told that I couldn't return a tool, and that was supposedly their standard policy. But when I read the back of the receipt, it didn't say anything about tools not being returnable, so I had to go back the next day and spoke to the store manager about it. He said the employee was acting properly, just following orders, because only the store manager can make an exception to the rules, which he then did for me, and gave me a full refund! Anyway, I wanted to rent a code reader, and I called all of the auto parts stores around here, to find that they all stopped renting code scanners a few years ago, due to some new law just in California. So only certified repair shops can use them here now, and they charge about $100. So I bought one from Autozone for only about half that cost, and it works great on all of my cars, and even on my friends and neighbors cars too, and as they are all quite appreciative, it has practically paid for itself already! read more

The gentleman working there offered me help and went above and beyond by looking at my car to make sure we got the right ones and once purchased offered to show me how to put them on since I didn't know how.
