I had a scrape and small dent in my car from another persons car door slamming into mine. Subaru was quoting 3k and 6 days in the shop to fix because they would need to replace a bunch of unnecessary things. I called Keith and Autoworks and he quoted me $75 and a hours work. I stopped by again to drop it off to be fixed and they fixed in it 12 minutes for a price of nothing but absolute kindness. Be it that was the scrape and not the dent but it was so minor I agreed I just wanted the scrape buffed. A couple months ago I took my Mazda to get an oil change. I got it done; however, unfortunately the mechanics tore down my under shield in the process. They did not notify me that it happened or even ask me for permission and simply stapled and zipped tied everything back together. Prior to all of this, my car's underbelly shield was completely in tact and well maintained. I did not realize any of this had happened until during the middle of my 14 hour drive on the highway, part of the under shield fell off and a portion went completely under one of my tires. This was a danger to all of us in the car, it put all of us at risk, and is a legal liability issue. Thankfully we had duck tape on hand and did what we could in our circumstance. Upon taking our car to a mechanic, they confirmed that the shield was irresponsibly damaged through shortcuts. I am disappointed that this all happened and will not be coming back. read more

Autoworks - Your filthy, lazy, and careless mechanic didn't bother to spent three seconds to wash his hands after performing my oil change prior to touching all over my beige interior. I only posted three images but anyone reading this can imagine the amount of damage done to a cloth headliner and A pillar when someone carelessly affixes the NY state tags on your windshield with oil all over their hands. To say that I'm pissed off would be an understatement Anyone who values their car being treated with care and respect should avoid this place. I WISH I HAD. They are getting horrible these days. They gave you an estimate and raised it without notifying. We recently had very bad experience with them, both the work and the front desk. I guess they just didn't care and take advantage of people who don't have a lot of knowledge in cars when there is a chance. This review is for their body shop. And I have one thing to say: fantastic!!! I could not be more pleased with their detailing and paint work and oh my, the car looks outstanding! After wet sanding and polish, scratches that other shops told me were "too deep and need painting" are no longer visible. Like holy wow! Mike, the manager is a straight forward honest guy and does not BS you around. If you go here, keep one thing in mind - don't rush the process! They may take a little longer but the work is high quality. These guys are very busy and I cannot recommend them enough. 5 stars. read more

1) I recently brought in my Mercedes Sprinter because an ABS sensor went out generating a cascade of engine error messages. I also needed an alignment and specified that my four tires should be balanced. Autoworks billled me $1.8 hours to do the engine diagnostic (something I'd done in 5 minutes using my Mercedes diagnostic kit) and then charged me 2 hours to install the new $249 ABS part; a total of 3.8 hours labour at $90 per hours. When I picked up the van they told me they were unable to align the vehicle (they had said they could) and never bothered to balance the four wheels. I was out a total of $667.40 for this extremely expensive repair. 2) While picking up the vehicle I asked about two minor body work issues. The body shop quoted me $8-900 and when I asked to schedule the work, the manager said I'm going to quote you "$1,000 just to be sure". I had the work done elsewhere for $500. I can't speak to the quality of Autoworks work, but I can speak to their obscenely high pricing for "labor". Will never go there again! read more

Autoworks has consistently provided excellent service for the multiple vehicles I've brought them. I've used both the body and auto shops and now exclusively use this place for all my vehicles. They back their work and address warranty or post-service issues without extra charges or bullcrap. They definitely surpass any shop I've encountered in all the states I've lived. Autoworks is the exact opposite of what a great local business should be. My car drove better before going into the shop than it does now. I was given a quote when dropping off my vehicle and then slammed with a bill at pick-up that totaled 2 1/2x more than what I was told. Agreed with other one-star posts - huge ripoff, avoid at all costs. Trombley's was busy, so decided to give this shop a try. They charge $90 an hour for labor, and charged 1 hour of labor to change a couple of taillights (not the assembly, just the light bulb). I was an Autoworks customer for several years. While there had been a couple of warning signs of improper charges, my last visit caused me to file a complaint with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Short story I asked Autoworks to replace a bad O2 sensor, and showed them the screenshot from my OBDII scanner. They: * Told me I also needed another sensor * Couldn't remove the bad sensor * Charged me almost $400 labor to: **Disable both O2 sensors on that bank by cutting off their wires **Break my exhaust flex pipe on that bank ...and then they told me to take my car away because they were down two technicians and couldn't fix it then. I took my car to another shop, and they charged me only $200 labor to replace both O2 sensors and the exhaust flex pipe. The DMV agreed that Autoworks was in the wrong and got me a reimbursement from Autoworks for their labor, the things they broke, and the labor to fix them. read more

I had a complicated situation in which I needed to schedule a jumpstart on a car that's been sitting unused across the country from me (I'm in LA, the car is in Ithaca). I called Autoworks a few days early and spoke to George, who was totally fine with the situation and said it was no problem. I followed back up on the day I needed the jumpstart to make sure we were still on for the scheduled time. George went himself, coordinated with the person who has been holding onto the car key, looked over the car (since it had been sitting dormant for a while), jumped it, gave one of the tires air, and took it for a quick spin around the parking lot to check on an ABS light that was illuminated. He was super communicative with me over the phone while this was all happening and then called later to get payment details over the phone (thank goodness that was an option!). Super, super helpful and really put me at ease that I was able to get this done from so far away. Thanks so much, especially to George - I really appreciate it!! read more

Overpriced for poor quality. We went to Autoworks because it was conveniently located. We will not be going back. We went in for an oil change. They called said they noticed the battery is corroded, and asked if we wanted that taken care of. Naturally we said yes, thinking they were asking to replace the battery. Instead they wasted time and money cleaning the corrosion off, which did nothing. So we paid them about $35 to clean a battery that needed replacing, and stopped working properly 2 weeks later. Then to top if off we paid about $40 for an oil change that did not include the filter replacement. Apparently you are supposed to request the filter for an added cost? I am willing to pay more for convenience but I will not pay for half the job. read more

I took my car to Autoworks for repairs for last 6 years with generally good results: quick repairs, reasonable costs, good customer service. My most recent interactions with them however have been stressful. TL;DR-- Autoworks is either (a) incompetent and and consistently misdiagnosing car problems (b) Knowingly ripping off customers or (c) All of the above. In any case, PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY TAKING YOUR CAR HERE. Let me walk you through this recent episode: (1) Had check engine light and needed an inspection. Autoworks said there was no problem with check engine light but also said I needed a new set of tires and brakes. $800. Seemed legit to me (it had been a while since I had my car in) and I was happy to pay and have a well running, safe car. (2) 2 weeks later I get another check engine light and my car overheats on the way to the shop. Autoworks said they didn't see any overheating but noticed the "overflow tank" wasn't sealing. $450. Again, seemed plausible, and since I was graduating and leaving town soon, I went ahead and paid just to be set and have a car that was going to last me till I got to my new job across the country. (3) 2 weeks later the check engine light comes again. Two weeks after that my car was having trouble starting. By some miracle, it started one morning and I drove it back to Autoworks. They now tell me I have a leaky gasket requiring replacement and "chewed up" spark plugs. $1100. Fuck it, I need a working car to get out of Ithaca and this has got to be enough money for these neanderthals to actually fix my car-- so I wait 4 days for them to make these repairs and i pay up. IMPORTANT NOTE: they had previously replaced my gasket for the bargain price of $800 less than 6000 miles previous to this repair. I had forgotten about this, and didn't bring it up, but surely if this were a respectable business, they would have seen that they had already repaired this part less than 6000 miles ago and offered to cover (or at least discount) this repair under some kind of warranty-- right? I'm of the opinion that respectable workers stand by their work and avoid scamming a poor grad student by performing the same costly repair twice. Maybe I'm just naive. (4) Two DAYS later my car doesn't start. I call a tow truck driver and tell him a few things about these repairs. He tells me straight up: "Autoworks rips off its customers and offers bad customer service, don't take it back to them". He then took a metal bar and wacked the bottom of the car and got it to start-- he, in less than 10 seconds, diagnosed the problem as a faulty fuel pump. Needless to say, I did not return to Autoworks. This is literally the first time I've taken the trouble to write a review of a business, but I felt compelled in this case to do the public service of alerting people to this shady, or, at the very least, incompetent repair shop. Doesn't deserve one star. This is the most dishonest shop in Ithaca and they are only out to steal your money. Went there for brake pads. They called me at 1:30 before starting the job to tell me my car needed rotors too, which is fine. They said it would be almost $1000 dollars and I was astounded and upset at the price, but I needed it done asap so I said to go ahead and do it. I asked how long it would take and when I could pick my car up. Guy says "oh it'll be about 2 hours." So, fast forward exactly 2 hours and 8 minutes later ( I have it time stamped on my cellphone) and they call back and tell me my car is done- awesome. Now this is where things get fishy. After I pick up my car and go home, I give the itemized bill a look over because that $1000 dollar price is bugging me. Like how was it that much? Well, turns out even though it only took the mechanic 2 hours to do the job, they DOUBLE CHARGED me for 4 hours of labor. I went back first thing Monday morning to ask why I was charged 2 extra hours of labor and the counter guy just says "That's how it is, it took 2 guys to do it so we had to charge you for 4 hours." WTF? I'm sorry but that is the most lame excuse ever and not how a business should be run. Also the fact that I am a woman is probably why they thought they could get one over on me. The owner hasn't called me back and the counter guy wouldn't give me the $180 back that I am owed for the 2 hours of non-existent labor. Had they told me in the beginning that they double charge customers when it takes 2 guys to do a simple brake job, I would have said no thank and taken my car elsewhere. read more

Awesome service! I got a flat tire one night and AAA sent someone from Autoworks out to help me. The guy was very helpful and towed my car back to their repair shop. They fixed it right when they opened the next day, and I was back on the road. I'll definitely be returning to Autoworks if I need work done on my car. read more

I'm finally getting the chance to write my thoughts on Autoworks after having taken in my bright blue Subaru WRX STI many times. I have only the best things to say about Autoworks. For one, the prices are unbeatable. They will beat any quote you get from other local bodyshops by FAR. But this doesn't detract from the quality of work. I've come in for scrapes, cracks, and a dent (none of which were my fault!) and they've repaired or replaced it without hassle. I would comfortably recommend this place to family, friends, and anyone else I encounter. I also never expected such outstanding customer service from a body shop, but these guys really know how to take care of you. Hats off to Mike - the manager of the shop. He's doing a phenomenal job. If these guys make a promise, they keep it. Whether it's finished quality of product, timing, or quote, you can feel safe trusting Mike's word. For further reference, it's worth mentioning that this is the first ever review I've written. There are two business here, the body shop and the general repair shop. This review is about the body shop. Mike went above and beyond to make me happy. He did several extra, useful things without charging me for them, came in under budget, and also did extra touch up paint without charging me and let me keep what was left. I last went a few years ago and was also very happy. Maybe you will have a different experience with the general repair shop, but I find their body shop to be excellent. read more

Autoworks aka Rushlow's Towing entirely swindled me out of my car and made money doing it. After my 2006 low mileage MiniCooper lost power and all the lights came on, it was towed to Autoworks. Estimate was for $5000 or more for overheated engine. I chose not to repair it, as I live in Boston and car was temporarily in Ithaca with a family member. When I read the estimate to my mechanic who had just inspected it, all of the parts were 50% more than the typical cost. It was still running (Autoworks did not tell me this) and being 300 miles away, I could not pick it up and bring it to my mechanic. I went with their estimation of the problem. They said they would sell it for scrap for me and pay $150 to $200 and in the end, only would give me $100. They stalled for SIX WEEKS in sending payment and only did so when I told them I was having the car towed that day as I had not received payment. What they didn't tell me was that they had listed the car online for $1200! A fellow upstate bought it for $1000 to repair and put on the road. I know this because the buyer located me as I was the previous owner and we spoke. He feels he spent to much and I know I was paid too little. However, duped as we were, the public should be aware that Autoworks and Rushlow's towing people are crooks! read more

These folks are really the best. Consistent quality and creative solutions to problems my aging cars have presented over several years. They screwed back the underbody sheet I dragged there after a Greek Peak Parking lot "alteration" for under $30.00. Also warranty their work. I recently damaged a new shock in a standard Ithaca pothole and they replaced it with no charge for parts or labor. I have been dealing with them for about 3 years and have been happy with the work that they have done on our Prius and Highlander. They recommended a different tire than the Toyota dealer suggested and the Cooper tires have lasted much longer. When I needed something fixed in a hurry they were always able to get the vehicle fixed and did not act like this was a big imposition. I had an excellent experience with AutoWorks. They were professional and courteous. I brought my car in for a oil change and alignment. When the mechanic noticed other issues he brought me back and showed me exactly what was wrong. He gave me his opinion as to what should be dealt with now, and what could be safely ignored and monitored. Autoworks made all repairs without informing me of additional charges Work took 2 months and when I asked about the additional charges, I was told it was due to a special "high intensity' headlight. I had a terrible experience with Autoworks. I brought in my car to change into snow tires, I had bough online. When I called the office, they told me to bring in around 1PM and that should not take more then an hour to get all 4 tires changed. I came in just before 1PM like they had told me. I ended up staying there until 6PM waiting in the waiting room until they were done with my car. I have a brand new car, so its not like there was any problems with the car. It just took them 5 hours to get tires changed..... I will never go to them again. read more

I needed to pick up my car from the impound lot. They told me to meet them there 20 minutes from when I called. I ended up standing outside for an hour an a half until their guy showed up, and then he had the nerve to make wisecracks and charge me a storage fee for being there 24 hrs. I think my car was there for about 26 hours, so It would have been almost exactly 24 if I wasn't forced to wait around. Absolutely no respect for people's time or property, I will never patronize this mechanic because of this experience. read more
