I guess when your car hits 8 years, the first smog needs to happen and coincided just shy of 8 years *eye roll* I was in the area and came across Hayward Auto Care (HAC). STAR certified location which i realized (later) is overkill for my low-mileage and maintained vehicle. I was told up front the cost (was a bit surprised) and in hindsight, should've gone to a regular Smog Check location. Yes, I should've done my homework beforehand (failed) and paid more for convenience. Completed in 20mins. I would consider returning for other services. Be sure to utilize their COUPON (discount) on their Smog Service and other services located on their site! Disclaimer: There was no hard sell and/or pressure from Ken or his son who were friendly and efficient. Note: STAR stations are held to higher performance standards by the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) and are authorized to test vehicles flagged as high-polluter risks

I had let him know that I was trying to sell my wife's bmw, and was concerned it wouldn't sell with the coolant leak. They did a free inspection and quickly provided a detailed breakdown of the issue and repair cost. The quote was reasonable and clearly explained. I ended up finding someone willing to buy the vehicle in its current state, and decided to do that instead of investing in the repairs. David was completely understanding about it and didn't make me feel bad for taking up their time. I would definitely come back here again.

Once the inspection was completed, he explained everything to me in detail, and the final price was more than half of what the dealership was going to charge. That said, I highly recommend Mission Muffler and Brakes -- they are the best! I wish I could give them 10 stars!!!

I have used this business for the past ten plus years. I…read moremoved (relocated) to Hayward back in 2010... from Southern California.. I needed a smog... they accomplished the requested service very quickly. Trust me when I say this... I was impressed. I have used them for the past thirteen years... for what issues we (the wife and I) have experienced over the years. A specific incident occurred just last year. I drive a 2003 BMW M-3. In my opinion, not a run of the mill automobile. I learned early on, with this make and model, if you have to ask the price of owning this reliable vehicle, perhaps a Chevy or Dodge, may be in your best interest. My battery ran dead (it was five years old) and I delivered my M-3 to them to check my charging system and make recommendations. It was determined that it was my battery. "Go ahead and change out the battery and let me know the status of my charging system. They complied. Two years hence, I was having a challenge with my battery again. I would go out and attempt to run an errand and the battery would be unable to start the car. I took the vehicle, after jumping the battery to start the car, back to this facility. They indicated that they would recheck everything and call me. Now, this is the opportunity for a workman / tradesman to take advantage.. But.... They called me, indicated the tests they had run and indicated that my car was not being driven often enough to completely charge the battery. Their remedy was to put the battery on a trickle charge for five hours. Hmmm.... As a retired individual, who may run to the grocery once ever two week (the grocery is two miles away) it made sense. Over the past year, I have adhered to their recommendations. Once a week, putting my car on the freeway and drive it for about thirty miles every week. Guess what??... my battery is operating normally! This company could have taken advance of me... They did that which was correct. Four Stars for them!!!
