I'm putting Pentagon Federal Credit Union, Autopay and Hyundai on blast.... This credit union was ok until it wasn't. I obtained a Hyundai Tucson in 2018 and did a refinance through Autopay in 2020 who connected me with PFCU. All was good until the vehicle had some mechanical issues and neither did the Autopay gap insurance or warranty with PFCU cover anything. This happened twice and I had to take out two repair loans to fix the issues; of which I am still paying off. Hyundai cars from year 2014 - 2017 have had various recalls and major mechanical issues reported for the last few years. Hyundai dealership was not helpful either. As of February 2023 the vehicle malfunctioned again, and definitely could not afford another repair loan. Thus I contacted PFCU to ask for a voluntary Repo and they stated to try and sell it myself first because that's their company policy. I took 2 weeks and tried to get a buyer and no one was interested. During that time, I asked for a deferment of payment and PFCU granted that request for one month. I had to obtain another car which is $400 more than what I was paying for the old one. Thus I called PFCU and spoke again to the collections dept to update them about the situation and advise that I can no longer pay for a vehicle that has a transmission issue and is too dangerous to drive when it is shaking with a loud ticking noise. The voluntary repo paperwork was signed electronically and put in process. They even discontinued the credit card that I had through them, of which both were in good standing before all this transpired. I have spoken to 2-3 reps between Feb and now June who stated that the voluntary repo was in process and every conversation was notated of what i said, and today 6/7/23 I spoke to yet another rep who said that she only saw the call from February. She said that the company will not come get the vehicle if it doesnt work and that the car note is over due 67 days. I told her thats a lie, because the previous reps told me that someone would call me to get the car towed so PFCU will try to sell it as is for what is owed on it. Thus the Tucson has been sitting at my apartment complex since February. I transferred the insurance from the old vehicle to the new one; and PFCU sent a letter stating that they applied insurance to it and that amount would be added to the remaining balance. This is the worst experience I have had with any bank / credit union about a car. If anyone reads this, I highly advise that you do not do any business with them. read more

Autopay has a very deceptive business practice. Over the past three years, they checked my credit score multiple times after showing me what appeared to be attractive refinance offers, with rates between 4.0% and 5.2%. Since my current Subaru loan is 6.59%, those offers looked better and encouraged me to apply. However, once they checked my credit, they did not honor those original offers. Instead, they came back with much higher rates, between 6.5% and 8.99%. This happened more than once. What made the situation even more misleading is that they used three different names, so each time I thought I was applying with a different company. That is how I ended up being tricked several times without realizing it was connected to the same business. This kind of practice is harmful to customers. It wastes people's time, affects their credit, and breaks trust with those who are honestly looking for refinancing options. Companies should be transparent and truthful, not lure people in with appealing quotes and then change the terms after checking their credit. Based on my experience, I do not recommend Autopay. Please be careful and do your research before applying, so you do not go through the same frustration I did. read more

I was trying to refinance my 2020 Toyota Tacoma through Credit Karma. My application was passed to another company, first TRESL and then to AUTOPAY Financing. I was initially told I was approved and that my new interest rate would be close to 4.9%, which sounded worthwhile compared to my current 8.6% rate. However, communication throughout the process was poor. Weeks went by with little to no follow-up, and I rarely heard back from the assigned finance representative. When I finally did hear from them, the conversation focused heavily on add-ons such as GAP insurance, an extended warranty, and oil change packages. Then I was informed the actual refinance rate would be 6.7%, not the 4.9% that had been suggested earlier. While that is still lower than my current rate, the overall process felt misleading and frustrating because the expectations set at the beginning were very different from the final offer. I want others to be cautious when using refinance marketplaces. Worst experience I have ever had. Was promoted a 4.99% interest rate based on a credit score that I NEVER would have qualified for. Based on CK, TransUnion, and Experian, I was at a 738 or below before the hard credit hit. They hit my credit 3 times, told me I didn't qualify because you need a 740. I never would have done applied had I known I not been falsely advertised. They come back with a rebuttal for a 5.84%. I say fine. We go to finalize the paperwork they state I have a 6.62 APR which is higher than my existing 6.5% rate. This should be another illegal move trying to get me to refi higher than where I'm at. I requested they take off their $600 app fee they snuck in there to increase my APR. The lender themselves approved and dropped it down to $100. I say fine because it dropped the APR to 5.84. THEN my load advisor ignored me several days. Turns out the loan advisors management declined the $600 to $100 application fee the lender themselves approved. This company is fraudulent AF, falsely advertises, and will scam you any chance they get. I will never do business with this organization and I will tell everyone I know to not do business with them. read more

"Preapproval" through Credit Karma offer of 4.54% APR for 48 months, all vehicle and personal information up to date. After approval they refused for DAYS to actually send documentation I could review. Credit Karma application information shows approved and still shows 4.54% for 48 months. They initially tried to sell me a huge term extension. When I finally got crappy screen shots of the 48 month terms to review it was 8.84% APR. MORE THAN DOUBLE THE ADVERTISED PRE-APPROVAL THROUGH CREDIT KARMA. They also tried to sneak in extra 'maintenance plans' and over $1k in fees (which I know are normal to some extent but were never itemized or disclosed) and tried to inflate the payoff on my current loan (yes I called my current lender). Huge scam with so many red flags. read more

They even know your vehicle type which shows you the rates and terms your qualified for. When I went through the entire process they came back higher than what I am currently paying right now. I refinanced my truck for $93,000 with $0 down with my credit union bank. and was making payments of $1,560. I received a letter from AP Autopay claiming I was pre-qualified for a refinance with payments of $1,369. The letter made it sound simple and guaranteed. I applied, provided all the information they requested (SSN, driver's license, pay stubs, registration, etc.) and they performed a hard credit check. Within an hour, I received an email saying lenders would only refinance me if I put $48,000 down -- which was never mentioned in the pre-approval letter. When I responded questioning this, all of the emails I had from them suddenly disappeared from my mailbox. This entire process felt misleading, like a bait-and-switch tactic to collect personal information under false promises. Be very careful -- in my opinion, this company is dishonest and wastes your time. They advertise "pre-approval" with specific payments, but after getting all your sensitive information, they change the terms completely. And then when you are questioning them immediately you are getting a message " your application has been canceled". If you care about your personal information and time, I would recommend avoiding this company. read more

Except one thing is they don't offer you a service contract, they just add it to the contract along with huge fees from both companies and lets not forget that non-refundable G.A.P you get as a bonus fee. What they quote to you is the bait at a low rate and what you get is a high rate attached with an auto service contract and huge fees from both Autopay and the service contract which you are not aware of until after you sign the final contract. The first red flag was when they would not email me anything. I had to wait for them to call me. All I have to do is accept the offer and they will be in touch. I accepted the offer and they told me I qualify for a rate 3% higher than what was quoted. My credit score is in the 800's, my debt to income ratio is in the teens and the loan on my car is for less than half of what it's worth. I would qualify for the best terms but autopay is baiting and switching. I selected "accept offer" the offer is in the picture below. There is no truth in your advertising. They sent me a link explaining how auto loans can be soft queries. I proceeded with filling out their form, but they didn't give me a rate. I called their phone number, and the person told me they had submit my application to actual loan applications that would be using hard inquiries to get me a rate, and there was no way for them to give me a prequalification rate. I immediately told him to cancel, but now I just have to "wait and see" and potentially file a dispute, or suffer a hard inquiry on my account. After receiving a call from a representative named Vee, I noticed she kept giving vague explanations and never clearly stated the final interest rate, monthly payment amount, or even the loan term. Despite this, they performed a hard inquiry on my credit without confirming the terms, which damaged my credit score unnecessarily. Then, they sent me a bunch of legal documents to sign -- before I ever saw a clear breakdown of the loan conditions. Immediately after sending the documents, Vee called again, pressuring me to go through them with her on the phone. I believe the goal was to rush me into signing without giving me time to read or question anything. When I carefully reviewed the paperwork myself, I was shocked to find: A $1,700 charge for a useless insurance product I never agreed to, Nearly $700 in document prep fees, A 72-month loan term (even though my current loan only has 55 months left), and A higher monthly payment than I'm currently making. Be warned if you are just trying to shop around for rates. I was linked to Autopay via Credit Karma for a refinance since the estimated rate was a few percent lower than what the dealership got me. Figured hey might as well check and get a rough estimate to see if I would actually get a rate low enough to make refinancing worth it. What they don't tell you is the initial page you go through to check rates just is a loan application, no indication this is what it is. You go through give them the usual base info even basic loan calculators use like income/expenses, etc but then before you know it they do a hard credit pull and send you a full application to sign like you told them directly you actually want a loan and weren't just checking rates. At this point I don't even care if the rates are lower, I don't trust them with my money. read more

After I had a phone call with an employee named Ryan Berry I was informed the lowest was 7.5ish%. he was also extremely rude and couldn't tell he hated his job. He was so short with me. Legit didn't even say hi. The first words out of his mouth was, "it's Ryan, who is this" and then, "let me pull up your stuff". As I needed him to give me the access code for the contract but wanted me to sign and send the power of attorney of my vehicle first. He explained everything fast like if he was on some timer. Would rate zero if possible. In the span of a week, I got highly targeted letters from Autopay and offers via CreditKarma to refinance my auto loan. I'm currently financed at 8.05%. These offers seemed to promise refinancing as low at 4.64%, and had several rate choices and options. After providing all my info and taking the hard pull hit (I still have an excellent credit score) they called and offered me 8.99%--higher than what I currently have. This is a bait and switch tactic and is illegal under the FTC's CARS rule. The person who "helped" me is Ryan Dalbey. There never were any rates that low, as I should have easily qualified for them. I recently received a message from Credit Karma suggesting I refinance my auto loan. I was redirected to AutoPay, a refinance company, where I filled out an application to see if I qualified. After submitting my credentials, I was approved and spoke with a representative named Patrick Olson. He informed me that I would need to submit my sister's credentials as well since the car is financed in both our names to complete the application. Patrick Olson later explained that to proceed with the refinance, I would need to pay $1,050. We finalized the agreement, and I was told to make the payment before March 20, 2025. However, two days later, I received a text stating that my application was denied. Patrick mentioned that while the loan was initially approved, issues with the title change and sales tax impacted the loan. I had clearly explained my situation to AutoPay from the start, yet I felt was misinformed and received little explanation. This experience has been very disappointing. read more
