Requested the car be checked for intermittent check engine light and slggish response. They were fully booked but took the car in and worked on it between other vehicles. Normally, the price is less than taking it to the dealer. If you wait in the waiting area, they offer you coffee or water. They even like a good joke. We have always received good quality service, and if the cost is above the estimate, the call before performing the work. If you want your car repaired with quality, bring it here. I will no longer recommend them at all because they have outright refused to work on vehicles 20 years or older. I used to take my vehicles to them exclusively. Apparently they don't like money anymore. Lets not forget they tried to say my S10 needed a new transmission for 7 grand. When all it needed was an 18 dollar sensor. These guys are incompetent and careless. For context, the transmission had less than 7k miles on it. read more

I had an oil change a while back. Money is tight right now so i went to a place that was cheaper. They said the drain plug was stripped and i should go back to the previous place. I went back to Automotive Workbench. The new guy Rick was very polite and listened to my issue and said they will rectify that promptly, and he apologized for the issue. He asked if i would like an oil change which would be necessary after they pull the plug. I said money was very tight and i had a quote that was lower. I picked up my car today after dropping it off this am. My bill was $0.00. Both Rick and owner Brian made this right! They were polite and kind and treated me with respect. I have been going to them for 7 yrs but money is lean right now hoping i can still afford to go. However, if you're looking for a place that is respectful and courteous and does the right thing... i would highly recommend Automotive workbench. read more

We recently had my daughter's small SUV there to find out the problem with a noise sounding like the brakes we first thought as they'd said last time we'd need to get those fixed. We were told it needed the struts, ball bearings and tie rods replaced all at once! The vehicle has been well maintained & has low miles for yr but we at first trusted them. The prices were $1827.93 for struts and $ 1071.41 for ball/tie rods. and doesn't inc a list of other things they said it needed done. My husband was told they were booked up & itd be few wks before they could get to it. We decided to take it to another local place as we were concerned for her safety. The owner there kept it all day checking it ALL out! He found nothing wrong with the brakes (still over half life left), struts, ball bearings or tie rods!!! He did find out it needed two new tires and a rotation. We had previously gotten 2 new tires from Auto Work and instead of putting them on the front, they did one on front and one on back. Plus, never told us others needed replacing. It drives great now! All it needed was tires!!!' My husband had been doing business with Automotive Workbench for MANY yrs. We were so disappointed! I cringe to think of how much money we spent on his former truck that may have not been needed. My daughter's vehicle had been maintained by a mechanic in Batesburg as it was owned by my aunt. When we first learned of all Auto Work said it needed, my aunt called him with the list and he said no way - I know that vehicle! I am so glad we took it somewhere else instead of being ripped off for unnecessary repairs that were also overpriced according to other garages. Beware of Automotive Workbench! Ok, I do know the owner but I'm not getting any kickbacks! LOL (He used to live in my neighborhood.) These guys will fix your car right, at a good price and they do quality work. Plus, it's locally owned and all of the guys are up on the goings on in Aiken. They do a lot of charity work for the community, as well as replace burned out engines and faulty brakes! They are a bit off the main road but it's worth the effort to find them if you want your car or truck worked on by trusted mechanics at a reasonable price. (And you can have a lot of fun kicking up dirt in their long driveway!) read more

If they were surgeons removing a finger, I would be limping right now. Instead I am walking. After two trips into the shop and risking engine damage in between, I was told that what I originally felt was the issue was correct all along. A broken bolt was involved on my part, but it was the incorrect assumption by the mechanic that cost me so much and put at risk even more. No, I wouldn't recommend them. My husband's Mercedes wouldn't start. We had just (2 weeks prior) had it repaired with a new starter - $650. Then it wouldn't start again. The owner said it was now the alternator. So we had that replaced - another $750. Now, 3 weeks later the car is not starting again. We had to call them to tow it and when the owner came he seemed defensive and resentful. We don't need this. We're going somewhere else. read more

Thanks to Holley and his relentless research to not only repair the rear seals in the back axle, but for wanting to and loving to work on older vehicles. The mechanical and diverse experience which is housed under the roof of this shop is unequal to any around this area. We appreciate the ability for us to be able take our 30 plus old vehicles to them to keep them running tip top and as if they were new. The customer service is fantastic. Horrifying service. We were charged $2600. Continued to have the exact same problems with our vehicle. Took it back to them several times and were told they couldn't find anything. Finally had another mechanic have a look. He advised us of the issues as a result of their work. We contacted them asking for them to fix it, and they claimed they'd never fixed that part in the first place! So, they claimed it wasn't their responsibility to repair. I have the receipt showing the part, charge, and labor. So, their next response is that they didn't think they changed it, but even if they had, we now would have far to many miles to determine if it was their fault or not. read more
