Total scammers. I bought a car from them off craigslist (where it was advertised "by owner"), and taken for a ride from there. It was advertised as a running, inspected vehicle. When I got there I was told that I couldn't test drive the car "for insurance reasons," and that I'd have to buy it as an "unsafe vehicle" for some weird reason having to do with paperwork, which I didn't understand and unfortunately agreed to. A day after I got it home, the vehicle, which they had inspected AFTER labeling it unsafe, had broken down and was undriveable. Found out that the transmission was shot, which I would have figured out myself if I'd been allowed to test drive the car. Funny that...
Don't know if this is something the individual who sold me the car did of his own accord, or if it's a company-endorsed scam. Either way, don't make my mistakes, and avoid this place.
The lessons are:
1. Don't buy from this dealership.
2. Don't accept a "tax cheat" (unless you really really trust the people): an accurate record of what you paid is your only recourse if you need a return.
3. If you've been scammed by this or any other dealership, file a complaint with your state BMV or DMV's investigation department. At least in Maine, it's not that bureaucratic, and they do all the work once you've submitted your complaint. read more
