Yesterday they replaced the master cylinder and brake booster for my Mom's vehicle. When they sent me quote, I couldn't understand why they were charging me so much in labor, so I called them. They told me that the master cylinder and booster were separate parts that were located in different locations. I couldn't imagine that, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, I had them show me the parts. As soon I as viewed them, I saw that the master cylinder did in fact bolt to the brake booster. I asked to talk to the manager who tried to tell me the master cylinder was on the inside of the firewall. I argued the point with him and he finally told me "I guess your not a tech because if you were you would have replaced the parts yourself." After paying (almost $1,700), we walked out to the vehicle to a brake pedal that depressed all the way to the floor. After bringing it to their attention, they re-bled the lines and I overheard the manager (Larry) tell a tech that there was a lot of air in the left side. Worst place for car repairs, and even worse when it comes to customer service. I brought my car in to get my brakes repaired and spent roughly $500 as a result. Less than a week later, I was having similar car issues. I took my car to another mechanic shop for a second opinion, and that's when I was notified that my Right Front Brake Pad fell off. The mechanic at the second shop told me that my car was not drive-able due to the damages, and that it would need to get towed back to AutoFix since my car was still under warranty. AutoFix REFUSES to pay for the tow simply because I took my car to another shop for a second opinion. I find this to be extremely sketchy as a business. Because essentially I paid for a service that they did not fulfill, and actually caused more damages to my car. Instead of AutoFix taking accountability to rectify the problem, and to satisfy their customers (which by the way, I already paid $500 to get my brakes fixed), they refuse to help the situation because I took my car to another shop ONLY FOR A SECOND OPINION Basically, sketchy company with questionable quality of service on repairs. I wait inside. Finally, the results of his analysis come back. You need a new windshield wiper motor and the cost to replace it is $465. What? Those parts are very expensive, the counter clerk says. She is the very same employee that gave me a very high quote on new tires last Spring and I got the same high end tires elsewhere for far less money. Shop around!! So, when do you want to bring the car in she asks? I want to get a few estimates, my new alternator only cost $265 and you want $465 for this little part? She looked so perturbed when I told I'm going to get other estimates. That part is very expensive, she explained. I called Auto Zone asked what does a new windshield wiper motor cost? My right wiper isn't working but the left one is fine. Well sir, if the wiper on the left is working, that's not a motor problem as both wipers are run by one motor. WHAT!! Just for the Hell of it, what does that motor cost? $85. They were going to charge me $465 for something I didn't need !!! had two issues. 1. Noise coming from rear of car. Diagnosis: new wheel bearings on both sides. I asked them to do that repair. 2. Loud noise from blower motor. They said motor was fine. This made no sense. Took to to Subaru dealership. Obviously blower motor was broken. They also checked the wheel bearing repair and found lug nut was cross threaded/defective and recommended the work be redone. I called auto fix asking for a refund because I don't trust them to do the work. Manager Mike refused and said he would repair it under warranty. He also suggested that only the lug nut should be replaced. I told him that wasn't acceptable to me. He then condescendingly started to explain how warranties work. This is when I had enough. I am the customer and to be treated this way was unacceptable. He was combative and argumentative the entire conversation. My request was simple. Refund me only for the poor work. Not the full bill for service. Just the half that was poorly done . They also failed to inform me that I should check with the dealer because based in mileage -- the repair may be covered under the dealer warranty. It turns out, it would have been covered under the power train warranty. I didn't know that wheel bearings would have been covered. Stay away! I took my car in because we were hearing a noise from the rear of the vehicle. They diagnosed it as a wheel bearing issue to which they replaced both rear bearings. There was also a loud noise when the ac was turned on to which they said everything was fine and couldn't find the issue. We then took the car to the dealer to which we discovered they incorrectly installed one of the wheel bearings and the ac blower issue was resolved quickly. After talking to the manager about the incorrect installation they would not issue a refund but wanted me to bring my car back. Over my dead body will you touch that again. Do not take your vehicle here for get repaired for any reason. They are dishonest for not refunding the work they did incorrectly. It's your fault. read more

I was told I had a coolant /oil mix problem and I had to replace cooling system at $1200 to fix this problem. $3000 later; the problem is still there and the corporate office response was if I could drive it, they fixed the problem. I would never rely on Autofix to repair anything else again. I had to take to another establishment, so the car could be fixed the correct way. In March of 2021 I brought my car in (a 2012 Nissan Sentra) to get my brakes and rotors replaced costing me $885.35. Five months later I had to bring my car back because their were grinding and screeching noise every time I used the brake. We got it fixed. Less than a year later I had to come back because my steering wheel shakes aggressively whenever I brake on the expressway. They tell me that my rotors are warped, their are heat spots, and I need a new replacement of the front brake pads and rotors. (Just as a reminder this is what they "fixed"). I did some research and it turns out that new rotors are supposed to last about 70,000 miles. Less than 20,000 miles into getting them replaced BY THEM I'm told I need new ones! The reason I drive so much in a year is because I am a full time college student and full time EMT and it seems they are taking advantage of me because of my age and knowing I need my vehicle to take care of my responsibilities. I've had my car for 7 years with no problem to the brakes and rotors. I understand they need to be replaced because of normal wear and tear. I brought my car here thinking they would do a good job. A little over a year later i'm told I need to pay $550 to get the SAME WORK DONE AGAIN BY THEM. The employees are kind but the work is less than satisfactory. read more

Terrible business -- manager is dishonest. We have photos of the inside of my son's car to show the shoddy workmanship and wrong parts were installed. When it was discovered one day after they worked on his car, the manager refused to issue a partial refund and instead asked "why did the dealership check" the work done by auto fix. He apparently was upset their mistakes were caught. We were forced to take the car to the dealer after auto fix couldn't fix part of the problem with the car. The work they did do was wrong and had to be redone by the dealer. This involved wheel bearings so it could have affected the car's safety. This place is terrible and has awful customer service. When their techs make mistakes they don't offer to refund the cost -- even partially refund it. Stay far away! We are glad we have photos as proof and will be letting all of our friends and family in the region know to not go to auto fix. read more

I knew they wouldn't be bad because it JUST started making a noise. They called us an hour later and said the total would be $850+!!! They said it was down to the rotors and the rotors were being damaged. I was blown away! We told them NOT to fix it. We had a mechanic that we know take a look at them, he said the brake pads and rotors were totally fine!! And I probably heard a noise from moisture on the brake pads...he changed the brake pads for us just to extend the life of the brakes but he said they were totally fine! Awful, the coupon of $70 for a brake job didn't mean too much when they said it didn't include the hardware kit for my car, so the price they quoted was actually $200. These parts are easily available at Autozone, the shoes and the hardware kit for less than $30.00 total. Avoid these people. To be perfectly clear the price went from $70 to $200 because they said their $70 offer doesn't include the hardware brake kit, which I found t be about $17 at Autozone. The kit is not much more than a few springs. I went to Crown Point Auto repair and got a quality job at the right price, and they even resurfaced the brake drums, and I didn't have to wait two useless hours in their facility waiting for results. read more

this is one of the worst places in indiana besides auto masters on calumet ave in hammond! i'm a young black girl that just wanted a fixed car so i wouldn't be scared to drive with it. i first took it to auto zone to get the codes read and an 02 sensor came up. i then took it to auto fix and they told me i had to pay $200 just to see what's wrong with it they came back saying all this stuff and how they broke something off my tire that no one asked them to touch. they took the diagnosis and told me it's an 02 sensor and pcm which came out to $800 mins u i waited six hours to get my car fixed . the very next morning my engine light came back on ! i took my car back and now they saying it's the catalytic converter and i had to pay for another diagnosis which is $100 which they charged me $200 for the last time lol! mind u when i took my car to fixed it smelled like gas the whole time and after they fixed it i asked the guy so no one said anything about a gas smell and he said no. they clearly scammed me out of all my money . this the fourth time i have got ripped off in indiana and i'm so irritated i think it's a race thing now i wanna treat all white people wrong read more

I had a questionable experience at this business before but decided to give them a chance because they are close and open Sundays. Both of my front headlights went out at the same time. I have a Chevy Traverse and checked on line to see how to change them. You must go in through a compartment in the wheel well. I figured I did not want the hassle. Took it there. They first asked me if I know how to change the bulbs. I said through the wheel well. Left it there. Got a call a while later and was told my vehicle did not have the wheel well access and they would have to remove the front bumber. It was cost over $300. I said forget it. Took it to Garber Chevy. They said that they would have to go through the access in the wheel wells to change these so unfortunately it would be costly at $160. Obviously Garber Chevy is more trustworthy. Really? I have to tell AutoFix how to fix and they still cannot do it? I am now thinking that they are seriously just there to rip people off. They tried this before and while sitting in the waiting room waiting on an oil change from Duke of Oil, I have heard them telling others similar strange scenarios. My next stop is the BBB. I took my vehicle here first thing Sunday morning ( was there before they open) to get a repair done, I was given a quote and I told them I was waiting at the location for my vehicle. After being there 3 1/2 hours and watching other people come and go I was called to the counter. I'm thinking my repair is now done but it wasn't! As a matter of fact they had just brung my vehicle in the shop and now is telling me the repair would cost more than previously quoted and it would take a few hours. This is unacceptable in my book, why did it take so long to get my vehicle in, why was I misquoted , and why should I spend any more money with these people? 11/10/2022 I dropped my car off @ Auto fix because it was doing a lot of jerking when I drive & when shifting from reverse/park to drive. I was told a couple of techs did several test drives to feel for the jerking and not 1 in the 5 days the car was kept felt anything. According to my receipt the odometer was 177,509 when I dropped it off & 177,510 when I picked it up. There is no way for them to have had the car that long & didn't feel any jerking @ some point. I was told the front knuckle was replaced, 11/15/22 I picked my car up & pd $836.09. I was suppose to drop my car back off 11/19/22 for the same jerking but became ill. 11/28/22 I dropped my car off again for the same jerking, 11/30/22 I was told tech still didn't find/feel the jerking & when it happens to come get tech for drive. 11/30/22 went back to get tech & immediately from reverse to drive he felt it, when driving out the lot he felt it & while driving around the block he felt it. He apologized & said he thought it was the knuckle but it's the transmission, He cleaned it off & said if that didn't work then they'd have to do something else. 12/1/22 I took my car back for the same jerking & was told that I'd have to pay $402. for a transmission flush & screen replacement which would fix the jerking, remind you I just pd $836.09 for what they Thought was making the jerk. Auto fix kept my car 11/10/22 for 5 days & not once did the test driving as they stated/said according to the odometer reading. it's very frustrating the time I/car has spent @ this place. Open SUNDAY! I thought the law stated that only automobile dealerships need to be closed on Sundays not automobile repair shops....So, after much research and limited options due to it being a Sunday, I decided to take my automobile to Auto Fix. I was certain my automobile needed new rear brakes and it also had a "knocking noise" when I turned the wheel too far in either direction. It also had an alignment/balance problem that caused the vehicle to "pull" to the right as it was being driven. I know my car was all jacked up! On with the review: First, their website was easy to navigate through and several coupons were available via their website - I saved $50 bucks with their coupon. Second, customer service was pretty darn good - I believe the name of the employee/manager that helped me was Mark. Third, after they completed their diagnostics tests, Mark called me back and was very patient and thorough with what they had found and I, at no point...felt any pressure into purchasing any of the recommended services. Fourth, what he explained to me was that "yes" my rear brakes needed to be replaced but not my front ones, I still had about 40% of brake padding left (cool right?). To add, he stated "yes" you do have a knocking noise but we can fix that at no cost, it's a piece of plastic that needs to be bent back into position. In addition, he stated "yes" your car pulls to the right and it's due to bad tires (I was having problems with one of my front tires having a slow leak, which caused the other front tire to go bad...I know, I know - I should have not waited so long). So all in all...I got my rear brakes fixed, 2 new high quality firestone tires, and had the "knocking noise" taken care of. The tires were also rotated...along with alignment - car is running very smooth and I was pretty happy with the price...keep in mind, I also had a 50 dollar off coupon which really made it a great deal... read more

DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!!! They charge me $285 for diagnostic test, after the test, they told me it's was the transmission line... I paid them $1500 for that... The $285 did not go towards the fixing the transmission line. The called me 3days later in said to come pick the car... I drove the car and didn't even make it to the next light... I notice the car wouldn't go pass 20mins... drove it back to them to fix the again... call me back the next day and said you need a transmission and we charge $2500 for that... I replied I thought it was just the transmission line, I paid you guys almost $300 for a diagnostic test to find the problem not guess it... They told me this car is basically a piece of junk and we the transmission replacement is going cost $2500.. that's it that's all...next I went up there to talk with manager in person.. I took my car in the fall of 2014 to have a driver's side lock repaired. That took 9 hours, which was more than ridiculous. A few weeks later the lock broke again and I called the manager at Auto Fix. I was told that I could bring it back at any time since the part was under warranty. When I called to make an appointment on a Saturday (I drive in from Chicago), the manager was extremely rude, talked over me, and said that he couldn't possibly accommodate me on that Saturday. When he finally conceded that we could fit me in, I once again spent a couple of hours there at the shop to only have the lock break AGAIN within a few weeks. At this point, I took the car for a second opinion in Chicago. Upon opening the driver's side door, there were a few parts laying at the bottom of the door from my window that had not been re-installed correctly. They then fixed the lock and it has worked great ever since. I called the corporate office explaining my experience and requesting to be compensated for my time, energy, and money that was completely wasted at this Auto Fix. There letter back to me was a complete blow-off and offered me a free oil change. I then wrote an official complaint a couple of months ago now to only be ignored by the office. In my case, this was poor customer service and an incompetent repair (twice). I would never go back to Auto Fix. read more

I give a one star rating only for the repair done to my vehicle which has both fixed the issue and pleased me. The billing for services rendered is what is getting a poor review. I am a woman that does not have an expansive working knowledge of automotive repairs. I am married to a man having over 25 years of experience in this particular field. Prior to electing for a shop to perform a necessary repair, my husband and I took time at home to identify a front, driver side, outer tie rod that needed to be replaced. Due to both of us being full time employees respectively, against time constraints, we chose to bring the problem to this location. A problem was identified after the technicians expertly performed the requested repair. Upon picking up my vehicle, I requested to have my old parts returned to me, which they were. Bill was paid for at approximately $385.00 and to my awareness, all was correct. My husband took one look at the old parts and looked over the bill. He pointed out that the service writer spelled out the parts and labor for a driver and passenger side inner tie rod replacement, however, the returned old parts were the outer tie rods of both driver and passenger side. The next day, several quotes were researched for the parts and labor cost of the outer and inner tie rod replacement with alignment. Based on the several quotes received, one of which was given by the Auto Fix sister store in Merrillville, it was verified that a $70.00 over charge was billed for services rendered. My husband reached out to the Highland store manager to discuss this overage, to which the store manager had to take appropriate measures to verify. A returned call from the store manager determined that there was an error in writing the service bill against the true repair performed. Thank you to my husband for identifying the error! Two days after the repair was completed, and the calls were placed, a corrected receipt will be received to reflect the reduced and accurate cost of what was actually repaired. If you owe any balance for your car, but cannot pay, they shop will keep your car. If the shop owes you a refund, but only one absent employee has access for refunding, the shop will keep your refund pending return of the absent employee. This logic is wrong, as we being the customer should be given our overpaid money immediately. A refund will be issued as requested, the problem comes when the auto shop can govern how and when their mistakes can be audited and credited. I am a skeptic of auto repair shops, and so should you be! Buyer, beware! If you take time to research even a little bit before going to a shop, you may save yourself time and money!! read more

So I was told by Duke of oil that my serpentine belt needed replaced and was referred to autofix. Appointment required and would not quote me a price over phone as she states they have to make sure that s what needs repaired. At my appointment the counter lady asked me if I needed anything else looked at i said clearly" no". So after looking at it they say i do need a new belt and a front axil ($500) .They say I have an oil leak and need to clean the engine and dye the oil to see where leak is. Said I would need to drive it and bring it back to see where leaking. Car would not be ready until time of closing or next day. They don't have ride service but said if i had a way back they would drop me home. That was nice i guess. So she calls me saying the leak was spotted right away...oil pan gasket so I would need an oil change also with that.....another$500!!!! I said no to the second repair. Picked the car up. Engine is not clean and no dye colored leak visible. Now car shakes after axil change and did not shake before. Also they said I need a new battery. Just got one from Levine and supposed to be under warrantee but Levine says may be alternator....( Beware of Levine also)!!!! read more

My husband and I took our car here for the first time to get a free estimate with a coupon that we had. Everyone was very nice. We had an appointment for 1pm. I asked the man at the counter if it would be done by 4pm, because I needed to be at work at 4:00. He said it would 'be done way before that'. We noticed that our car was still parked at 2pm. I asked him if it was going to be a long wait, considering that we had an appointment. He said it wouldn't be too much longer. Another hour passed by and I reminded him that I had to leave before 4pm. They ended up finishing at 3:45 and I was late for work! And that's only because we kept bugging them?, if not, it would have been a lot longer! AND to make things worse, they didn't even know what the problem was! They just said they "think" they knew what the problem was and in order to know for sure, they would have to take everything apart and it would be $60 to take it apart and just look at it. That wasn't even to fix it. And they couldn't even guarantee us that if they fixed it that it would fix the problem. Uuum... what can of crap is that? We basically wasted our time for NOTHING! I took my car in to have my alignment fixed. They told me my alignment wasn't all that bad but that I needed new struts for $920. I was a little skeptical so I took my car to the dealership for a second estimate and was told nothing was wrong with my struts and all that I needed was my alignment fixed for $100. I do not feel Auto Fix is honest and I would never go there for anything more than an oil change. read more

I was recommended to this friendly and clean business by two people. I went in with my 7 yr old - let them know I needed an estimate that I was losing coolant and that I thought it might be my radiator hoses or water pump. It took them an hour and a half to produce a complete lie. They said that both my "upper and lower radiator hoses were completely worn through." The manager then proceeded to tell me that after so much time " they just completely melt" away. This freaked me out of course and then they threw me the price to fix it right then and there (which obviously I then felt desperate to get it done!) $240.00 to change two $%$& hoses that cost $18 and $40. I ended up believing them and bought both hoses - had a friend attempt to fix them and upon inspection and the change of the first one - THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH EITHER ONE!!!! I wish I could post a photo of the one I plan to take up there this weekend! It is in perfect condition. Had I had the money - I would have been *****SCAMMED******* BY THESE PEOPLE!
