Held my car for over a three weeks to diagnose and fix the CEL. For them to then call me that it's ready for pick up and they couldn't fix the CEL and would require Mazda to update the software. Something I basically already knew from just googling the CEL at autozone. I took it to them thinking they can fix it out had the ability to update the software for me. My grandpa has been coming here for years and trusted them, so I naturally listened and went to them to fix my AC and cabin filter... BIG mistake. Parts totaled about $80, and the labor charge was over $250 for an hour and a half of work. The owner has most likely been overcharging & taking advantage of my poor grandfather for YEARS. (lesson learned for me to trust my gut and do more research, but yeah I do NOT recommend this place they WILL overcharge you for the smallest of things.) read more

Student discounts, honest work, far better pricing than AAA, Firestone and dealer (Timing Belt on daughter's car cost $200 less than the aforementioned places). Daughter went off to college at UNCW. I usually do most repairs myself but the distance was an issue. Glad we found a Honda specialist! When we replaced the Civic with a Nissan Cube, Auto Tech proved to be THE place again! Nissan wanted $450 to replace the valve gasket because you have to remove the intake manifold to get to it. Auto Tech did put for under $200. I've trusted my daughter's car her all throughout college. No up charges and honest repairs done right the first time! Thanks Chris and team! 12/4/2020 Update Chis is amazing! We had a recent issue with head gasket failure. Essentially the previous work performed by Auto Tech was flawless but the part failed. The problem is my daughter graduated UNCW and is now living in Charlotte, 200 miles away! What a quandary! Chris went above and beyond by contacting the NAPA supplier and through his network membership with NAPA, offered a remote NAPA warranty solution where a shop here in Charlotte was paid to perform the work. Kudos to NAPA for standing behind their product and special thanks to Chris for standing behind his commitment to customers, even though we are 200 miles apart! Had a big job on a '74 Corvette. On the day I brought it to him Chris was all smiles and assured me he could fix everything I needed. He did a lot of work right off the bat, chases, linkages, power steering box. But then everything came to a screeching halt. Then he would never return my calls on the first try. I had to always call more than once to get a response, even though he stood right there in the shop and said, "There is no excuse for not returning your calls." Then he continued to do it for as long as he had the car, which was 14 months the first time, and 10 months when I brought it back to be finished. It never was. After 14 months I begged him to finish. He gave it back to me, but the door catches and locks were not done. I waited for him to get the parts. I brought it back after a couple of months of waiting. After having had the car in his shop for 14 months he did not do a compression test. When I brought it in the second time is when he did that, and then told me I needed a new engine or a rebuild. That was June. Months later he tells me the engine came back, but he didn't like the sound, so he sent it back. In April of now 2024 (I originally brought him the car in June 2021), I stopped by the shop. In 10 months he hadn't touched the car. And the engine was still in it! I took the car to a shop in Chadbourn where they replaced the engine and finished the work in three weeks. Chris is a great talker, always nice, always a good excuse, but nothing done. read more

I expressed my inability to find an honest, thorough mechanic that charged a reasonable price. I wrote another review but seeing that everyone is complaining about pricing and someone stating that it had to do with getting in there quick and out. this is NOT true. Owner had my vehicle (for the 2nd time after engine light and codes came up again within 2 weeks of my paying $1,200 and he did not honor the warranty despite the codes he charged for were the same and did NOT explain why he would not do so. I then asked him to get them fixed (despite my having to pay again) and he kept my jeep for 3 days and I had to pay an uber $200 to go to work up and back for the 3 days. An hour after I paid another $790, my engine light came back on again with NO resolution!! I took it to another mechanic and got it fixed within 3 hours for next to nothing. read more

Last year the A/C in my 2012 Prius went out. I went to BSI at Monkey Junction, who I have gone to for years for basic stuff. They don't repair A/C, and recommended AutoTech to me. I made the appt, which was 2 weeks out, and dropped my car off. They performed the service, but when I went to pick my car up, the windshield had a HUGE crack in it, running from the center all the way to the edge. The owner came out and explained that when the tech had taken it for a test drive after the repair, a rock had hit the windshield and cracked it. I asked when I should bring it back so that they could repair it, and the owner refused, saying it was "an act of God" and that they were not responsible. Many reading this may agree that the owner was not responsible. I get it, stuff happens. But I am a business owner, and that is why we have insurance, so that if something "happens" and unintended damage is done, we can care for our customer, to build and maintain trust, and create consumer loyalty. Maybe the loss of one customer doesn't matter to this guy, but where there is one unhappy customer, there are bound to be others. Anyhow, if you choose to use this business for service, good luck to you. read more

They do great work. They'll talk to you (and without being condescending or assuming I don't know anything because I'm a woman, thank you!) Both my dad and brother, who are car enthusiasts to put it lightly and do a lot of their own work, haven take their cars here and swear by them too, and they're pickier than me! Best dealership in the area. They're completely honest and trustworthy. Let me tell you just one story about these guys that happened today. I'd just got new tires put on at Auto Tech. They then sent me over to a place they recommended to get the alignment done on the car. That other place quoted me over $500 for the alignment job (due to needing to replace the tie rods). Well I thought that sounded crazy so I took it right back to Auto Tech and talked to Joel and Chris and told them what the other guys said. They were furious! They got the mechanic who worked on the tires in to talk to us and he was like "yeah no, your tie rods are fine man." Not only were Joel and Chris livid on my behalf (genuine empathy!), they took matters into their own hands. Joel called the other place and set them straight, then Chris (Abrahamson, the owner), WENT THERE HIMSELF WITH MY CAR FOR OVER AN HOUR, showed them how unnecessary the work they were quoting was, got them to do my alignment and made sure it was free of any additional charge beyond the $55 I'd paid for the alignment check (you know, the one where they told me I needed $500+ work done that I didn't need.) And I'm just like...a loyal customer. I'm not a friend of the family or anything like that. So Auto Tech saved me over $500 today. I will continue to go out of my way to take my car there whenever I need anything done, and I highly recommend you get to know them over there. Background: My wife and I have been going to Auto Tech for 10+ years. Her parents, even longer. We have a '99 Honda Civic that they have always been up-front with us about what needs done immediately, what we need to keep on our radar, and what's totally unnecessary that other people would probably ask us to do. The car has run great and is over 230,000 miles mostly thanks to them. Can't argue with that. PS those other guys told Chris "well if I'd known you'd sent them over, I wouldn't have told them that!" Come on!!! Clearly the whole industry is full of back-deals and relationships and if you're not connected you're gonna get screwed, but the least you can do is get in with some good guys who are doing right by their customers. The morning of the appointment I met Chris, the owner. The only place I will ever take my car! Most trust worthy mechanic I know and they won't do you wrong. I know the owner and his family personally and they are just good Christian people. He has been in business over 25 years. I'm on my 4th car and I won't ever take my car anywhere else my whole family takes their cars here and if he can't fix it he tells you up front and recommend you to someone he trust. I've been taking my Odyssey van there for about a year but today I picked it up after having some issues and having a diagnostic test done at O'Reillys I was able to purchase all my parts there beware of buying any parts From them only if you have to they will want to sell you 0ME parts which is fine but you can get the same parts at different places much much cheaper they wanted to charge me $175 for six radium spark plugs I wouldn't pick them up from O'ReillysThe exact same kind that they were going to install for $80 so you be the judge this is the thing that I don't like about mechanics or repair shops they want to charge you a premium price for something that that you can go and get but I like h@&$£¥ people they do not let you know that I just think $95 is a lot of money for them to make for not doing anything they even have the parts delivered to them that's a 120% Mark up read more

At the time of this review, Auto Tech "is not" an accredited BBB business but they are displaying an accredited BBB logo on their website as if they are accredited. Also, at this time, the company (unless they have an individual that is) is not a member of the ASA according to the ASA Director of Operations but they also display this logo on their website.This was a BSI Service Center (Michael and Brandon ) referral to Chris so they can vouch for each other and tag team the customer. Chris produced a "so called" diagnostic report with biased, false and inaccurate information. Possessed my car for two days for this "so called" in depth" testing to produce about three sentences of findings on my car and did not pin point the issue or a resolution to fix my windows, locks and main switch. BSI advised me they were paying for the BCM to be tested on my car and to pin point the issue at Auto Tech because BSI did not have the proper testing equipment onsite. My car was damaged on BSI's property and they promised to fix it. But once they got me over to Auto Tech, BSI states they aren't going to pay for the test on the BCM anymore and then Chris informs me that I will now have to pay for the BCM to be tested! read more
