OUTSTANDING.........AUTO TECH IN HUNTLEY! I started my relationship with Auto Tech 6 years ago when I needed new tires for my 2014 Toyota Avalon. Arlyn recommended tires that were much better than the tires when I purchased for the car new. Monday morning (yesterday), I was at the Sun City, Prairie Lodge. Upon leaving, an elderly man was attempting to turn into my area. I pulled forward to give him more room and accidentally ran over the curb. FLAT TIRE. Auto Tech had Premium Tires with the lowest prices in Huntley. I called my roadside service. One hour and 32 minutes later, Lightning Road Service showed up. Put my spare on and off to Auto Tech in Huntley. In my time sitting there, I called Arlyn at Auto Tech, they didn't make my tires any longer but he would find some tires comparable. Arlyn looked at all my tires. The left front was a goner, the right front had a gash in it, and the right rear, I have been having problems with it. Needed 4 new tires. I just got coupons last week for Auto Tech, which Arlyn applied. Also got an oil change that was needed and had the tires balanced. And a front wheel alignment. We took our car to Auto Tech today for them to check out a loud noise coming from our tires with each rotation. After doing a test drive and confirming the noise, they brought our car into the shop, raised it up and proceeded to pick out hardened tar that was stuck in the treads. (We had been at a restaurant the night before where they had recently had the parking lot resurfaced). Hard to believe that tar could cause all that noise but that solved the problem. I usually don't write reviews, whether my experience is good or bad, but after this visit I feel compelled to share. I've been coming to this shop off and on for a few years for various services like alignments. In the past, I had minor issues with the alignments not being perfect, like the steering wheel not being straight, but I let it go. This time, I scheduled an appointment specifically for a check-engine light diagnosis and dropped the car off the night before. I agreed to the $160 diagnostic fee. However, I didn't get a call until late the next afternoon just to tell me I'd left the wrong key. I brought the correct key quickly, but then I didn't hear back until the following day. When they finally updated me, they said they just cleared the check-engine light without a real fix. I knew the code was a permanent one that wouldn't just disappear, so this was disappointing. They also looked into a secondary issue I had mentioned, but that wasn't my priority. Then, when the check-engine light came right back on after I left, they wanted me to wait for a manager and suggested another $160 fee, which wasn't disclosed before. In short, the lack of communication, unexpected fees, and the unresolved main issue made this experience frustrating. Vehicle is owned by a broke college student that needed car to run for just 2 more years with cheapest possible option to fix vehicle and Autotech was made fully aware. I took my vehicle in to obtain a new battery and get an oil change. That was accomplished. When I left, all of the lights were on in my car indicating check engine, check all-wheel drive, check outside for safety issues in addition to others. When I went back in I was told that all those lights were on when I brought the vehicle in. That is not true. Upon leaving, I went to turn on the air conditioning and my climate control system was not working. I have not even had a chance to see what else is not working. I caught a flat tire and a lug nut broke off as I attempted to take the tire off and to replace with the spare. Auto Tech was able to extract the lug nut and resolve the issue. I received four new Nexen tires and a new battery for a fair price. I removed one star because inventory issues were not communicated as quickly as I would have liked. run for your life.. Worked in Huntley so these guys were convienent. Used them for a couple years on all three of my vehicles. I've retired and moved west, you can probably guess, yep, went to a local shop, they found, air filters filthy, corroded battery terminals on 2 out of the three cars, at least one tire that was low on each vehicle. So, they basically changed the oil and hopefully the filter. EACH AND EVERY TIME I was in I asked for the full service, which would have covered everything that was bad and was assured it was checked every time the vehicle was in for service. Driving through Huntley the other day and my car decided to completely shut down. Every light on my dash came on and I could not go over 5 mph. I had no choice but to pull in to Auto Tech. They were awesome. They diagnosed my problem and had me back on the road very quickly. They knew I was in a jam, but did not try to over charge me or sell me anything I didn't need. There was an issue with my order (NOT AUTO TECHS FAULT) and I was already having a horrible day. Arlyn went out of his was to make things right even though tirerack was to blame for the issue. Took my wife's Mercedes in for tire rotation and to have slow leaks fixed in two tires. The shop found a nail in one tire and fixed that, rotated the tires and checked the pressure in the other tires. The bill came to $37.50 When my wife drove it home the alerts started flashing "Low Tire Pressure" and the readout indicated the back right tire had 27 PSI, the right front had 38 PSI, and back left had 31 PSI. It took them four hours to do a lousy job. I'll never go to this place again and instead will use MB Garage just down the street where I know I will get a quality job at a reasonable price. read more

Brought my car in to take care of whatever was causing the check engine light to go on. After over 2000 dollars later and five additional visits to their garage. The check engine light is still on, and the exhaust system they installed is louder than ever. The last thing they said is there is nothing they can do. They charge for a diagnostics check of the entire car (80.00) ... But never actually found out what was wrong. (In fact! They tried to charge me for a second diagnostic test when they failed the first time) Four times, I left their garage only to have the check engine light go back on moments later. After the fifth visit, they I was left with nothing more than... "I just don't know". This place is a joke. My vehicle ran just fine when I brought it in. It just had the check engine light on. And when they were done with it, it ran loud and the light is still on.... Only now, I'm out 2000. The kicker is that when I brought my car in, I asked them to check what the problem was... Because if too expensive, I would just use my money to buy a new car. My car blue books at around 3500. So when they said it would cost 2000, I thought, if I get a year out of it then it's worth it. So I said go ahead... I NEED that light off so I can pass emissions and continue to drive. Well... They took 2000 AND I still can't pass emissions so basically they screwed me. So if you are reading this because you want to find a good mechanic who cares about you, your car, you needs, your situation, and is honest and skilled.... Keep looking. Brought my vehicle in to have them check the brakes that they had previously replaced. It was a little over 3 Months since the original work. I was taken care of immediately and without an appointment. The service manager came over to me after about a 45 min. and told me that some air had gotten into the lines and needed to be bled out. My truck was ready and all I needed to do was check it out. My left side mirror was broken and I went there to see what they could do and how much it would cost. When I first walked in the guy at the front didn't greet me or acknowledge I was there until I said something. He was rude about it too.I showed him my mirror which was being held by duct tape. I told him I think the screws were just loose because it was still attached just dangling. He said he'd need to order a new part and it could take two weeks, and it would start around $250. I left and went to jon-jon motorsport in elgin, jonathan fixed it in twenty minutes for only $15. I was right all they needed to do was tighten the screws. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! How many mechanics does it take to change a lightbulb? While in for an oil change, they noticed my taillight was out and offered to replace. OK- They replaced bulb. A few days later, I noticed my bake light (same location) was out. So, I returned my car....I was told that they used the wrong lightbulb previously. They had used a single filament bulb.....it required a two filament bulb. They replaced the bulb. A few days later, I noticed the taillight cover was cracked! I looked closer and saw duct tape holding it together on the inside of the cover. They had broken the taillight cover without telling me!!!! I was able to return and get the cover replaced after they ordered a new one. The manager at first told me they don't even have duct tape....but at my pleadings, checked with the mechanic who had worked on my car previously, and was able to get the true story. He had broken it....and then tried to hide it...with duct tape. It they can't even use some integrity when having problems changing a lightbulb....what else might they do to your car. read more

My family and I moved here last summer 2013. I was previously living in mchenry and used their auto tech shop in mchenry for years. No brainier I thought "awesome there is a shop near my new house". Let's start off with the good, I love the guy at the desk he has been nothing but nice anytime I have gone in there but what happens behind the cement wall( in the shop ) is a different story. I went to this location a few times for oil changed and little services my car needed. At a point my vehicle needed a new muffler and I had asked for a quote, well it was a little too high for me so I opted out and just went with an oil change. This particular time I had brought my dog and was outside walking him around while my vehicle was being worked on. As I walk around the building I hear banging, at first it was just whatever, it's a mechanic shop of course there will be noise and as I look through the bushes their are 4 young men standin around my vehicle and 2 hitting my muffler. Let me tell you my muffler was not in good shape so the less wear on it the better. I was irate. First off it doesn't take 4 mechanics to change some oil and second I caught them in the act of hitting my car. I am sure they just wanted to damage it so they could get me to gets muffler serviced there but they scared me off for good and I will never step foot in that place again. I came in for a front end alignment after having new lower ball joints, upper ball joints, tie rod ends, and drivers-side upper control arm installed by my brother-in-law who is a mechanic. After sitting in the waiting area for a few minutes the manager (I believe) came and told me he had to show me something. He ended up showing me that the camber washers were not aligned right and that it was going to cost me extra to loosen the control arm bolts and align the plates. Well, the reason these were not aligned is because we knew I was going for an alignment the next day. THESE ARE THE SAME BOLTS THAT YOU LOOSEN TO MOVE THE SAME CAMBER WASHERS TO ADJUST THE CASTER/CAMBER!!! It's outrageous to try to charge a customer EXTRA for something that is part of a normal alignment! And then, to top it off, I was charged $29.99 even though they did NOTHING to my truck! For this reason I will NEVER give Goodyear any more of my business! I will also warn any people I know looking for service to avoid this place! The only reason I even give this place 1 star is because there isn't an option to give ZERO stars! read more
