I always dread getting a smog check letter because I know I have to go buy a Groupon, drive to some far scary looking place, and wait for possibly a long time. Well, looks like I found my favorite Smog Check place. This guy is fast! I brought my dog over so we can go for a walk in the neighborhood while they did the smog check. I dropped off the car and started to go for a walk with my dog. I looked at my watch thinking I'll be back in about 30 minutes. The worker called me back and I thought something was wrong, but nope! Came by for a Smog Check the other day and Hai was available upon arrival! Auto Smog is located in an industrial area of Cupertino with plenty of massage parlors, auto body shops, mechanics, along with residential homes. Presented my ID and DMV paperwork and Hai started the Smog check process by plugging into my OBDII reader as well as doing a visual inspection underneath the hood. After inputting all of my data and taking a photo of the Smog check result since the printer was "broken" (it was also broken during my last visit), I was all set and done after 10 minutes! $50 for a STAR smog check cash! read more

I'm downgrading these guys to three stars. I recently dropped by for a smog check, which is the only reason why I've come to these guys in the past. They're still an excellent place to get a smog check. Even if their parking lot is packed with cars, they can get you in and out quickly. I brought my car over with no appointment, and they had it smogged (which it passed) within 20 minutes. They're cheap too. The price I paid out the door for everything was $40 flat. Also, they've locked their waiting room and have set up seating outside due to Covid-19. Good job. Why, then, have I decided to downgrade them? Like two other recent reviews have stated, neither the main guy who runs the place nor his partner/coworker were wearing masks when I was here a few weeks ago. I also noticed a few instances on this visit in which they were fewer than six feet away from a customer. Not good. I hope they address this. Also, the guys who run the place are not rude, but, let's just say, not too friendly either. Instead of being greeted with a "Hi. how are you?", you'll probably be greeted with something like "you here for a smog check?". This isn't a huge issue for me, but I can understand why it might turn other people off. Lastly, their shop is a bit dirty inside, but I also don't think this is a big deal. It's an auto repair shop. Came here for a quick smog check during the COVID-19 shelter in place time. I was hesitant to get smogged now since I didn't want other people in my car, but the registration was due and I had to get it done. This is one of the cheapest in the area. Yes there are some cheaper ones, but the customer service there sucks. While there is no waiting room here, the technician was friendly and joked around with me about what happened at work. My smog check was done in fifteen minutes, not including me waiting for the person in front of me (also around 10 minute wait). 4 stars because no waiting room and they were not wearing masks. He also started smoking in the middle of checking my car. At least he didn't go into my car until he was done smoking (and the car didn't smell like smoke). Also, when he was driving my car in, he kept honking the horn. Turns out it was to scare a bird away. read more

Still five stars! Hai is amazing and was so nice to tolerate my lateness and agreed to work on my car even though I was 20 minutes late. Hai has an amazing attitude and is so super helpful. He agreed to squeeze me in since I need to have my car ready with the oil change and good to go before a long drive tomorrow. He didn't have to do this and most places won't but he is super personable and I'm so glad I found his shop. They are a one stop shop for not only smog checks but also oil changes and all kinds of fixes (ones that I can't even remember there are so many: replacing the A/C compressor after Los Gatos auto care didn't do it right, fixing a leak in my exhaust pipe, changing belts, power steering system, and the list goes on) It's way nicer to come somewhere with continuity and reliability, which makes Hai's shop so much more appealing than other chain shops. You know you can trust Hai because he's in it for the long haul and not just a quick buck as evidenced by him telling me when I don't need to fix things that I think might need changing (eg my brakes). HORRIBLE BUSINESS DO NOT GO HERE. HAI is the owner and I went to him to get my Intoxilock device removed. I made an appointment for 6pm and I arrived after work. He told me to leave my car there and WALK AROUND FOR AN HOUR. In the dark in a neighborhood I was not familiar with. But I did it because I wanted my device removed. I PREPAID $250 for this service, mind you. I came back in an hour and it still was not ready and not even started on. He told me to come back in another hour. I walked around again IN THE DARK BY MYSELF. Came back and he said it was done and rushed me out of there. When I got home I realized he didn't even remove the device completely. He just cut it off, had the wire still sticking out of my car and tucked it under my driver's seat so that I would not notice. I was LIVID. I paid $250 for this!?! I didn't sleep all night because I felt taken advantage of. I called him as soon as he opened the next day at 8:30am and asked him why he did this to me. He at first tried to say "I did remove it" then I told him I saw the wire and he half ass apologized stating he had a migraine the night before and a bad night. As if that's an excuse! He told me to come in the next day and he would complete the removal. I did that and it took 15 minutes. Why couldn't he do that when I came for my appt? I have no idea... he offered a free oil change to make up for it(as if that is enough to make up for his incomplete service)... fast forward 2 weeks later, I'm getting charged by Intoxilock because Hai didn't report the removal of my device! And we are both calling him over and over again to confirm the removal but he is not answering our calls! I'm SO UPSET that I paid $250 for this type of service! DO NOT GO TO HIM HE WILL OVERBOOK HIMSELF AND MAKE YOU WAIT FOR HALF ASS JOBS!!!! I would give him NO STARS but I can't post this without giving him a star!!!! On top of that, my Dad just had a heart attack right after Christmas and instead of being able to focus on my family, I'm having to deal with this headache! Fast, no-nonsense place to get your smog check. $40 cash or $41 credit card for most cars. Hai is a friendly guy and will do his best to help you. Literally took 15 mins to be out and done. Three chairs outside to wait for your car while the indoor waiting room is closed due to COVID19. I waited outside anyway when the waiting room was open. I brought in an older 1997 car awhile back that did not pass and the lady there was super helpful with what my options were. We ended up selling it to the state for $1K. Good deal and super easy. They are quick and super helpful. Once I had just replaced by car battery and it wipes the data so my car couldn't pass. So the guy gave me a meter and told me to drive around until the lights on the meter turned green. I did and then my car passed without a hitch. I believe that something has happened to Hai or his family. So before you are so quick to give him a one star, consider that everyone has circumstances that they need to take care of. I booked an appointment on Wednesday for a Friday smog check. When I arrived for my scheduled Friday smog check, this place was closed. The shop next door indicated that others had arrived for smog checks and had been similarly disappointed. If you want to close early or opt not to open that is the business's prerogative but have the courtesy of letting people that you have scheduled appointments know in advance. read more

Not sure what is going on. I stopped by 3pm on TH 2/9/23 and the place was closed. No note and no one was answering the phone. Garage door was down, though there were tons of cars parked outside. In fact, there was a car who was on the street stopped/standing in front of the closed garage door, maybe waiting to see if they would open? I've used this place before because they are close by, friendly, and overall convenient. In this experience, I called beforehand to check on availability due to possible Covid-19 restrictions. I had to call twice as nobody picked up the first time but eventually I was informed that they are available to do a smog check for me asap. When I got there, I was told by a mechanic that it seemed like the person I spoke with may have stepped away for a quick 7-11 break down the street and may take about 15 minutes. I decided to just wait as my understanding was that the smog check would be pretty quick. Well, I waited about 10 and waited another 5 as someone else was ahead of me. A minor inconvenience due to an unforeseen wait time but overall I think I was in and out within 30 minutes despite everything. $40 cash as my car fell within the 2000 and newer model fee rate. The gentleman wore a mask during the entire experience and was clear in explaining that his printer was not working and that we can take a screenshot of the confirmation screen that was sent directly to the DMV.
