Don't let the occasional slightly unwelcoming vibe get to you, this is an excellent place! I've gotten lots of tank fills (including doubles) and gear service done here, and they're always professional and fast. Prices for fills/fill cards and service are very competitive. They're also a dealer for basically every brand so if you need something that isn't stocked normally, you can have it ordered. I needed nitrox VIP done on a set of doubles and assumed that I'd have to wait a few days for the turnaround, but it was done in an hour, and for an extremely reasonable price, considering it required disassembling/reassembling the set. I also previously had some steel tanks in for VIP, where the tech was nice enough to brush out some corrosion inside the tanks for me for no extra charge. Just a note, though: They generally do not like you leaving tanks overnight if you drop them off for fills, since they're limited on space (especially on weekends). That being said, they're so on top of fills that it's never too long of a wait. EDIT: Shortly after posting this review, Doug (the manager) called me to ask what can be done about the occasional unwelcoming feeling, and was very nice and professional about asking for details and how they as a shop could improve. If I could add more stars for this, I absolutely would! They work hard to be the best they can, and I appreciate that greatly. read more

I needed a corrective lens mask for nearsightedness and they hooked me up. I see better thru my mask than I do my own glasses, they should also open an optical store. Extremely friendly staff, fair prices and I assure you though zi live in Tampa they have created a life long loyal customer by their going above and beyond. This is the oldest and most reputable dive shop in Miami. They are very knowledgeable and experienced with equipment on all fronts to include diving and spearfishing. I've been visiting/buying from them for a very long time and have had incredible experience when it relates to their workmanship on my equipment. They mostly sell equipment, so it's not your traditional shop that sells five services or diving trips. They have dedicated themselves to the equipment side, but they do recommend local instructors if the request is made. This makes them better in that they cater to your needs with regards to equipment. Ensuring what you purchase is quality and supported by a solid shop. We are on our way to the Keys for the month of December. Unfortunately, we sold our snorkel gear when we down-sized. We went to a Dick's Sporting Goods and could not get a single person to even pretend to be interested in selling us some gear. So we found a local independent shop, which is what we should have done in the first place. We had a young woman and young man help us find the perfect fins, masks and snorkels. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes and supported a local independent business. It looks like they have a nice inventory and their employees know their business. read more

I got SCUBA certified when I was 16 through this dive shop. I've been going here ever since. It is not a big place, so it's not the amazing selection that will hook you. It is the knowledgeable service. They are going to talk to you and show you which mask is the best for you. And no, it won't be the most expensive one; it will be the one that fits your face. Have a problem with your BC? Think you need a pair of snorkeling fins and a pair of diving fins or do think you'd be happy with one pair of in-betweens? Any question, they have the answer. I adore adventures, especially ones in or on the water. So when I decided to dedicate more time to learning how to free dive & spearfish I went on the hunt for the perfect gear. I exhausted my options all throughout the Miami & Broward area but struggled to find a shop that carried my size fins (xtra, xtra small)etc. Then a friend recommended Austin's & he was right, they are absolutely the best around! I found everything I needed and more & they were so helpful without being overbearing or pushy at all. Haha, some of those shops will descend on you like a pack of wolves circling their prey just trying to force a sale but thankfully not here! I wound up getting a mahogany competitor Riffe speargun, fins, booties, mask, weight belt & knife. Haha, ladies you know how they say for guys, puppies are a chick magnet right? Hahaha, well let me tell you that speargun is a total D*ck magnet, just sayin! Anyways I went back a second time to Austin's to pick up more gear as well and both times they exceeded my expectations with their customer service. Was suckered into this place by fellow trusted Yelpers...and couldn't have been more pleased! :) Big diving flag painted on the outside...cannot miss the place. Small parking lot but it's never too crowded, it seems. Walked in...and it's packed with diving goodies! Masks on the left with snorkels and fins...bags on the left too by the window. Suits and BCDs on the right. Fishing gear and what nots at the back by the cashiers. Staff are extremely friendly and knowledgable. As much as I wanted/needed to get a snorkel and a mask. Dennis came up and was honest about the different types of snorkels they carry..."this is good cause.., that is for someone who..., if you prefer this...., this two brands are similar cause they use the same technology and design..." He is an extremely friendly, knowledgable and friendly guy. In the end, I got a pink snorkel to match my fins. The mask that he recommended would have matched my snorkel and fins.....except it was not in stock. The kind man told me he would ship it to me to NY for free...and at the best price! (LeisurePro in NYC charges way more...he had this look of shock when I told him how much I spent on the fins! LOL) I left my number with him and didn't think much about it. Guess what? 4 days later in NYC...I get a voicemaill from a 305 number and it's Dennis informing me that the pink masks were in stock at the store and if I still wanted them. :) And THAT"s what I call customer service! I was born to be a mermaid. It's true -- my inner Ariel is half the reason I live in South Florida. And after a recent Keys adventure that re-awakened my infatuation with all things wet and wonderful, I knew I needed to spend more time in the big blue. And as far as water sports go, swimming with the fishes (of the still breathing sort) is by far my favorite pastime. Sadly, I've always had a hell of an issue with mask fittings. Water streams in, the visor fogs up and I'm forced to make frequent stops to adjust. PAIN. IN. THE. ASS. So in order to spend more time snorkeling, I knew I needed a mask of my own. Fellow Yelper Chris C. steered me towards Austin's, and I'm damn grateful he did. Honestly, I can't recall a time I've encountered better service in Miami. Tended to by Victor, I was treated like customer royalty. He spent an extended period of time walking me through the different mask and snorkel options, and offered complete honesty about my choices. No salesy nonsense, no pushing the big ticket items -- no pressure whatsoever. And best of all -- he said I could test my mask in a pool and bring it back if it wasn't perfect. HALLELUJAH! Plus, the prices were totally reasonable, and much less than I expected -- always a welcome surprise. Turned out, my mask was absolute perfection. No more water leaks or foggy vision. This has been my dive shop as long as I can remember. It's a smaller store, but what they miss is size they make up in quality. I don't me quality of their merchandise (which is very impressive) I mean quality of the people. The people there are divers, they understand some gear needs to be tested. The mask I bought, I wasn't sure about. They told me take it home, test it in the pool, and if it wasn't right bring it back. Tell me one chain store that would have done that. read more

I'm a Miami native, raised in Pinecrest and have visited this shop before I could ride a bike. It has pretty much everything you will need for your underwater adventures. Unfortunately, their prices are extremely inflated compared to other shops and overtime their customer service has fallen with the city around them. Ordering online is super easy and convenient but... not when your son orders the wrong size. Ughhh! I wondered how the return process would go with Austin's and they came through like few I've encountered. Within hours, I had a personal call letting us know they had the size we needed and would ship it out the next day. I offered to pay for the shipping since it was our fault but they wouldn't hear of it. They just said they'd love to have our repeat business in the future. What a joy to work with!
