Even after 6 weeks, their billing errors are not fully corrected. You will need to be proactive in order to understand what you purchased and how much it costs.

We knew he wanted to be buried next to his granddaughter and immediately made arrangements for him to be transported from Houston to Austin. Everything related to the transfer and grave-side service was handled great. We took great care with designing my Dad's marker. My Mom placed the final order December 2020. We were told it would be placed on 3-5 months. It is now almost a year later and still no marker. My Mom initially reached out to her contact at Cook Walden (Kyle) multiple times via email with no response. She called and left multiple messages with no response. Luckily I live in Austin and was able to park myself at the funeral home until someone would speak to me. After multiple assurances that 'everything was being done' to get my Dad's marker placed, I left. I reached out via text message multiple times and was told that 'shipping delays were causing delivery issues, etc.'. Sure. This would be a valid excuse for a month, 3 months, 6 month delay, but it's been a YEAR. A whole YEAR. My last text message was unanswered.

Bio: Susanna Dickinson was the wife of Captain Almaron Dickinson and was the sole adult Anglo survivor that witnessed the massacre at the Battle of the Alamo. On the morning of March 6, 1836, as the troops of General Antonio López de Santa Anna stormed the mission, Captain Dickinson ran to his wife, reported that all was lost, and expressed hope that she could save herself and their child. Although he died at the Alamo, his wife and child Angelina survived. Following the fall of the Alamo, Susanna was escorted from the Alamo mission, interviewed by Santa Anna himself and sent by him with a message to Sam Houston. The older section of Oakwood cemetery is just as painted by literature and movies - crumbled down gravestones, crawling vines, unnamed dead, multiple generations of families buried together, and wrought iron fencing. Go find the graves of John Henry Faulk, Andrew Jackson Hamilton, and Ima Hogg! I hope I have not disturbed any of the dead during my visits there or my Yelp review. I simply like to stroll through Oakwood and take in the haunted beauty. Just thought I'd share one of my favorite, lesser known spots.

My wife and I have finally reached that age where we feel it's time to look for that forever home…read more The remembrance gardens is a place where you can have your ashes interred for a lot less money than "for profit" businesses, and it qualifies as a tax deduction since it is tied to the church. Just to clarify, there are no bodily burials here, strictly cremated ones (you can even add your cremated pet). The memorial gardens are beautifully sculpted into the sloping hillside and includes a gravely trail behind it that runs by a creek. I noticed that along the creek trail there appeared to be additional interments along the path. This short path eventually dead ends into a hillside where you have to turn around and go back. Most people opt for the white limestone marker, but you can also get granite as well. One thing that became apparent is that there does not seem to be many open spaces left (the good news is that they are adding more). You'll find an above ground mausoleum on site as well. There is an office at the main entrance for more detailed information, but it's best to make an appointment since it is not always manned, especially during the lunch hour. Come to find out the two Texas Rangers responsible for Bonnie and Clyde's death are Buried at this cemetery. I came here to pay my respects. I went to the office on the premises and asked for directions. Very easy to find them. It's pretty much straight out the office door. I took pictures to capture the moment. I do want to add that this cemetery is just beautiful right now. (Early April) so many areas with bluebonnets on top of their graves. Such a beautiful and peaceful place. Well kept.
