This medication caused side effect and I had to go to the ER. I was at this facility to regulate my meds , which I did, however after being released and going for a follow up appointment, I was told that I was suicidal in the hospital, which then I was taken off my pain medication immediately. I do not and will not recommend this facility. Both the doctor and the nurse got away with their mistakes and are still practicing, in the meantime, I'm still suffering! read more

This place is terrible in every way, especially for anyone already dealing with a tragic situation involving a loved one. Please do not allow your loved one to be admitted here. This is not a true mental health facility--it feels more like a place that creates mental health crises rather than treating them. My son voluntarily admitted himself, and we were under the impression that he could also leave voluntarily if the facility was not a good fit. However, once admitted, the doctor requested an order for involuntary admission when we asked to leave. My son has other medical conditions requiring specific medications, yet they persuaded him to take their antidepressants while neglecting his necessary prescriptions. They even promised he could leave if he followed all their instructions--this is not genuine mental health treatment. I could go on for days about our experience. The fact that this "business" is unclaimed also now makes a lot of sense. Why would you want to accept that no one actually cares or does their job at your facili? TLDR and Context: This was not our teen's first stay at a facility and was not our first choice but the last place was full for three days at least. I was not the patient. I understand it's hard with mental health care reviews as it's a hard situation and reviews can be hit or miss with a lot of emotions. DO NOT USE THEIR ADOLESCENT CARE. No communication from or between staff. No consistent care. Our teen finally moved from Dell Children's ER to Austin Oaks roughly 4-4:30 am. We're used this and normal timing after going to the ER for suicidal ideation. I should have followed my gut from the get go.... 1. Sign this paperwork 2. Do you have any questions ... "yes, it says we need to sign here that we received the restraint procedures. We can't find it" ... them "it's in your paperwork" us "thank you, we've reviewed and sifting through and can't find it can you point us in the right direction " them "its there" we then just start naming off all the sheets and booklet etc. LOL the nurse just WALKS AWAY so we think they're going to get the handout right? 10 mins later another person walks back and tries to explain to us the restraint procedures is in the small intake booklet which was just the if a patient causes damage to the building portion (in pictures) and we explained how this doesn't sound like a restraint procedure and they said "I don't know that's just what they gave us" Now.... This is the start of a looooooong consistent string of "I don't know" from every single staff we dealt with over the next 7 days. ‍ I joked day 3 that if I heard "I don't know" one more time I was going to start shit but I'm a rational human being and clearly didn't know that every single employee doesn't know anything about any procedure or protocol or speaks to any other teammate. ‍ First shock was the visitation. Limited to 10-11 am Wednesdays (umm sorry working parents who pay 1k a day?) and Saturdays 4 - 5pm. Call times were also limited (totally fine) but when I asked why my son didn't call because he called every single day multiple times at the last facility they said "it's their choice and we limit to ten minutes each kid" and I said "how does that work with one hour?" And they said " I know that's hard to hear but we have two phones and 18 kids" I said " okay so 6 kids don't get a chance?" And they said "I don't know maam they allow all the kids to call" Then we hear NOTHING for two and a half days. Not what we were used to by any means. We were calling asking for updates etc. Here is my full nutshell: We never actually got ANY info unsolicited by us. If we hadn't called to care for our child we probably wouldn't have gotten anything. We had a nurse call to get consent on meds but we're different than what he came in with so I asked the whys, in addition doses, stopping the previous and the "I don't know I just need to call for consent" was the answer..... as a parent who gives a shit I said I can't consent if I don't know what I am consenting to. This nurse was not kind to that. He had 3 therapists, they don't do 1:1 therapy so how do they customize to each needs and never actually met any of them until our "safety meeting" we all took off work to join as we did with Dell Children's safety meeting and wtf I don't even know how I actually stayed so cool calm and collected. This PT therapist has NO IDEA what was happening, didn't host or guide the meeting, I actually had to say "I'm looking to you for guidance" twice. They should have already known he didn't want a safety plan, why would you bring in a child and spring a next day release when they can't even get through a safety plan meeting and you know nothing of it? I respectfully asked the therapist that they ask the psychiatrist to re-evaluate the release date since they cant even get through a safety meeting and openly says they'll continue drugs and running away etc. ..... "I don't know where those notes went" from the nurse, no communication between peers, and all of them blame each other for not doing their job. 1.5 days later I call saying we were supposed to be talked to from the safety meeting and no one knew We hated this place so much we decided to pull him anyway only to take him back to Dell Children's (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) and even our discharge was an entire mess and a full HIIPA and legal violation!!! They didn't ask my code, never checked an ID, some random I've never seen checked out my son to me lol AND the med prescription was half lol. I asked "so he arrived with Prozac and Viseril but we consented for two additions and this script is only for Prozac and Intuniv? Are they recommending another change? DO NOT CHECK YOURSELF IN HERE AND PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT BRING YOUR CHILDREN. I checked myself in around December. The stay was okay enough but the start process was an absolute nightmare. They kept me in a room for about 8-9 hours and wouldn't let me out to use the damn RESTROOM. I was literally calling the front desk and every time I knocked on the door to the office people would literally look at me then look away. I almost pissed myself in the check in room just to put it to them and I genuinely HAD TO PEE. They kept me in there for FOUR FUCKIN hours before they let me use the restroom. It was so inhumane and humiliating. Once I finally got checked in things were fine I guess. The nurses were nice enough but probably only because I chewed out the front desk on the phone. I literally heard people talking shit about me too, all the because I called them a BILLION times and was knocking on a door trying to take a piss that they made me hold in for four hours. Dealing with the billing department is absolute hell too. They are impossible to get ahold of and don't call you back at all. Just don't even bother checking yourself in here. Just go somewhere else. Don't put your kids in here. If they won't let a grown ass woman take a piss, I can't imagine how they treat children. When you need help you deserve people who treat you like a person, not these assholes. read more

I admitted myself voluntarily after a close call with my depression. I thought that I might've found a place where I could heal- instead, I came out more traumatized than before. Some of the staff there were incredibly demeaning and rude to the patients within B-Unit (where I was placed). On one occasion, a tech told another patient that she was the supervisor when the patient had complained, only for the actual supervisor to come in the next day. We were constantly threatened that, if we did not behave accordingly, we would be sent into C-Unit. C-Unit, or what I saw of it, was an absolute mess. There was pee on the floor, patients wailing on each other and running around frantically, none of the staff intervening. Another time, a girl who'd been told she was going home was denied release and after being ignored, she jumped the counter (which was a mistake on her part). They proceeded to call in a backup of 7 burly men to take her down and tranquillized her 3 times- keep in mind that she was 5'1 and was as skinny as a toothpick. They sequestered the rest of us into a room and then the staff had the audacity to laugh at her while she was screaming. It took me telling one of the therapists of my suspicions for them to knock it off. The final grievance I have is that one of the speakers triggered another patient and, when she had to walk out, the speaker used her as a negative example, which she did not deserve. I would have never expected such horrible treatment from what was supposed to be a care facility. Please, if you plan on going here, be careful and please stay safe. This place Saved me when I was going through a difficult place. I can't say enough about the groups there. The therapists and dr were excellent as well. One of my favorite groups was the recovery group. I thought they really cared about the patients, and how they were coping. Andrew the nutritionist was very helpful as well. They don't gave a great television watching view. I felt like I bonded with other patients. I felt that they make you go to an excellent recovery group, and I loved the musical therapy that was offered. read more

I sent these multiple times AND your Yelp response was contact Austin Oaks again. I did put in 2 more calls and another email and OF COURSE NO RESPONSE. I don't care to do reviews but I have to say if you really care about your loved ones... DO NOT SEND THEM TO THIS FACILITY!!! They do not care about the individual. I was over medicated... why? Because I didn't smile. I was literally shaking and had to fake my damn smile to let them know I was ok to be discharged. The drs there are rude and talk to you like you are dumb. I've meet some nice people there that were admitted but the drs and some people that work there do not care about you. I can go in and on. I do opt recommend sending anyone you love or care for here. Let me begin with a warning to parents. Do not send your children here! I know as a parent myself that we want the best for our children and this place is not safe, healing, nurturing, or otherwise conducive to recovery. The mixed-gender mental health ward is a disaster. The day staff is rude, refusing to let you see your own records, and not the least bit compassionate. I witnessed them denigrate a patient on more than one occasion. The facilities are not conducive to anyone's well-being. They are prison-like. Metal toilets with no lids. One blanket per person. Icy-cold day and night. Rooms offer no privacy and are spartan. Police bring in new patients at all hours and no one is allowed to leave. They advertise a multi-acre, oak-covered "campus" but you're not allowed outside except at smoke breaks. I don't smoke and the courtyard is full of smoke during breaks. The "programming" is haphazard. Some of it is run by 20 year olds giving group "counseling". Several events do not happen at all and some are just afterthoughts, like coloring. Granted, I didn't want to color but if you did, the markers are all dried out and the coloring pages bent, damaged, and sometimes dirty. The night duty staff was exceptionally kind, however. The food is institutional as one would expect but you have to adhere to their mealtimes. You can't snack and hopefully they'll fill up the water at the nurses station. Lord help you if you have to ask - prepare to be berated. The medical staff is not available most of the time and, if you ask to see a doc, prepare to be denied and then berated (of course). The docs are nonchalant and issue blanket prescriptions - almost everyone was prescribed the exact same thing - gabapentin. This drug made me so sick and they had nary a care in the world. I was vomiting, lightheaded, and felt like I would faint several times. My blood pressure skyrocketed during my stay and their solution was to measure it twice a day. It was so high at one point that had this been an actual hospital, I would have been in an ER. But don't refuse to take "your" meds! You will be dealt with. You cannot leave the facility without them approving a discharge. Had I known this I would never have voluntarily admitted myself. All of your possessions will be taken from you. You cannot access a computer or have your phone. They play movies all day on the lone TV. You are trapped in this awful place until they deem that you can go. You can have a relative drop off warm clothing but you probably won't get much of it. They don't tell you how much of your stuff they didn't give you. It was SO. VERY. COLD. When I finally left, the things dropped off for me were thrown in a heap in a corner of a storage room. Again evidence of how little regard they hold you. I felt unsafe the whole time. I witnessed a fight break out, a shouting match, and a host of other unsettling events. In sum, this isn't a place to get well. It is a holding pen the robs you of your dignity, causes you to doubt yourself, and leaves you with an empty feeling that no one cares. They run the place based on intimidating you into compliance. And then you get their massive bill. For over $1000/day I should have taken a week in Aruba. read more

Very poor experience. Our child's medications were mismanaged, they were receiving double doses of two anti-depressants, removed off another without any titration, and non psychiatric prescription meds for other serious medical conditions were not given at all. Due to this poor medical care, we did not feel our child was safe and we tried to get them out after they completed the mandatory 72 hour hold, but Austin Oaks responded by filing a court order for involuntary commitment for a longer stay. After speaking with my child's attorney we understand that Austin Oaks is notorious for committing private pay clients with good health insurance and have been doing it quite frequently of late. This is illegal and an obvious money grab by a facility that should be more concerned with the quality of the care they are providing. Avoid this facility at all costs, there are better options in Austin. read more

I came out sicker then when I went in and I wasn't the only one five of us had to hire attorneys to get out and others that had to pay thousands of dollars before they would release the patient . It was a scam. They got 16 K out of my insurance for my visit. there are a number of us that are gathering to file a mass action suit against the hospita. Please do not go to this hospital. in particular the psychiatric staff (holly & Jasmin)will lie and deceive and hold you against your will, take unnecessary blood, make you take drugs You don't want to, refuse your basic rights often, and are most lenient about violence, most of the upper staff in this establishment are not there to help you, the quality of food was horrible lots of sugar and white flour products. I could write a book about the atrocities that happened during my visit. I was at this hospital back in 2021 and it was just OK now they treat you like a criminal and not a patient. Our child has Autism. She was experiencing extreme bullying and wanted to harm herself. We had to take her to the ER and were told that while she was on NUMEROUS waiting lists for mental health assistance in the Austin area, if the ER released her, the pattern would continue and she would not receive any help. Outpatient therapy places are fully booked. The only way to get her help was to put her in treatment and they would then help us to get her in care on an outpatient basis. Not acceptable. She HAS a psychiatrist. They were of no help to her either. We opted to admit her into this treatment facility. They were amazing. The rapport they had with her was something I did not expect as our daughter is very quiet but they were able to bring her out of her shell. Two of the employees in her unit hugged her goodbye when she left and both said they were really going to miss her. This made our daughter feel so loved and cared for. It WILL take time for items left at the front desk to be received by the patient. Often, we would drop items off in the morning and our daughter would receive them in the late afternoon or evening. This is because all items MUST be searched for contraband and for anything that the patient could use to harm themselves. For example, we sent her a hoodie but it had a string. That string had to be removed before she could receive it. AGAIN, this is for the SAFETY of the patient. Stretch pants, shoe laces, tassels, anything with strings- all will be removed before they are given to the patient so BE AWARE. If you or your child are going to go to this facility, choose slip-on shoes or boots without strings. If something should happen to the patient while they are a patient at this hospital- the HOSPITAL is responsible and I appreciated the fact that they went to such extreme measures to keep our daughter safe. NOT EVERYONE is given the same meds. NO. Our daughter's meds were not even changed while she was there or upon her discharge. So no, not everyone is given the same medications. Our daughter LOVED the meals/food/snacks. She had fried shrimp, steak, salads, fresh fruit, etc. Being that she is a finicky eater, this pleased us a great deal. She was allowed to go outside for activities. Before you purchase anything to be delivered to the patient, please check to ensure that those items will be allowed. Our daughter loves to sketch. She was not allowed pencils, pens, or markers that we sent to her. These items were set aside for her and upon discharge, she received all items that she was not allowed during her stay. Again, we understood. Safety. She was allowed crayons and we brought her a new set. When you enter into a treatment facility anywhere, all control is submitted TO the facility. Their job is not just to get you on a better path, but to keep you or the patient safe. Be aware of this. Many seem to not be understanding this. I was in a treatment facility when I was a teen for 3 months for an eating disorder. Even back then, the rules were the same. The units are COLD. Be mindful of this and dress accordingly or have the patient dress accordingly. Our daughter was there in November. She called to let us know that she was freezing- even with the outfits we had packed for her. So, we bought her flannel tops and the like. Jeans are OK but not stretch pants, sweats, or again, anything with strings. DO check before you buy. The staff, every time I called, were never busy to talk with me. Ever. They were always helpful and they truly seemed to care about our daughter. I liked this a lot. Our DAUGHTER felt cared for. This facility helped us to set up outside treatment when our daughter was discharged. They did what I had tried for TWO YEARS to do. That outside therapy was incredible. I highly recommend Austin Oaks. Highly. Our daughter was very homesick but the nurses and staff really helped her with this. She'd never been away from home for longer than one night prior to this. They also gave her tools to manage her feelings. She is much more assertive now. In the 9 days she was there, we saw so many positive changes in her that she continues to develop now that she is home and working in therapy. I just can't believe it took THIS to get her the help she needed. Please be aware of all of the above. This is NOT a long-term treatment facility. Most people are only there for a week. They WILL set you or the patient up with a plan and treatment before they are discharged but it is up to the patient or the person in treatment to do the follow-through. No one can force you to do so unless you are a minor. It's up to YOU. read more

This place is an insurance scam. I was here for a few weeks and had to hire a lawyer and a mental health representative. My therapist and psychiatrist all were trying to help me. I came just to get a tour because I was looking to stay inpatient by my own free will. I arrived with my mother who was there to support me. I told them my situation that I was just looking and they told me to come alone in to a back room. I was not told what was happening I just thought it had to be me. I also was depressed so I was having a difficult time. She interviewed me and said that I was going to stay. I said I didn't want to that I just needed a tour. She said she could call a mental health judge if I wasn't going to comply. Few minutes later a cop arrives in uniform. No ID or badge to show me he was a judge. Looked like any cop. He listened to me and wrote what I said down. He brings the woman in and they both twisted my story and worked together to keep me in. My mother was devastated. I found out later they also lied again about how I had no support system and arrived alone. Which is why they separated my Mom and I. During my stay the conditions were terrible: -The previous person who ran the place, an old man, was now a group counselor. He was a terrible person. When the whole group got together he would individually call us out and interview us with a few questions. He'd be very perturbed if he didn't like your job, but liked you if he respected your job. When he got to me I told him I was disabled as my family took care of me. He said I needed to cut the umbilical cord between my parents and I. -They only let you out if you need to smoke so you line up and wait with other people. Outside it's a small thick caged in area with barbed wire. Very much like a prison. And you have to breathe second hand smoke just for some fresh air. -During certain nights you are woken up and forced to give your blood and urine. - The food is terrible except for the tacos. Physical activity is not encouraged nor do you have anywhere to exercise so you will gain weight. They bring out a tall rolling tray carrier and you have to find your name. You do not pick your food. And they will not wake you up so it's pure luck. It's so it looks bad on paper you are not eating and it's a reason to keep you longer. -I had close dropped off but it went to he wrong person. They never reimbursed me for the clothes or did anything about it. I tried fighting it but they did nothing. -They say you don't have to take your meds or go to group therapy but if you don't it looks bad on paper and another reason to keep you longer to further your stay. -There are no real wellness checks or one-on-one therapy. I had not showered for a week before coming and nobody checked. -All there is to do is sit in a open room with chairs on the wall and a TV plays. You just sit, wait for your release. -You are on their time so since I slept during the day I suffered trying to change my circadian rhythm. -The doctor who ran the place was an Indian man and very cranky all the time and did not listen. To get an early release I had to sign a paper and give it to him. He would constantly be too busy, ignore me, or say he would do it but it would be days later. I constantly had to pester him. My advice is to find another inpatient facility. This place brought me suffering and I was worse after release. This place is an insurance scam. They only want your money and not to help you. read more

I worked for this place and it is Terrible.... Highly understaffed and employees over worked while management sits on their butts across the court yard. DON is a joke.... Comes on the unit and doesn't know what goes on.... Many techs and nurses work their asses off and it goes unnoticed.... Workers struggle because hours are cut back so often they can't pay their bills. But when you're sick or have family problems it's a problem to call off.... The Nurses and many of the techs run this place better than management. Always short staffed so you're never doing the job you were hired for...... This was a terrible place. Do NOT allow you children here. The staff are nice, or at least some of them. But the psychiatrist is hated by every single patient there. They ignored a girl i was with when she had a medical emergency, and she suffered for much longer than she needed to. The quality of care is left to the techs, many of which are genuinely passionate about the health of the patients, but the therapists and the psychiatrist act like they hate the patients and do not take into consideration everything about them. My 13-year-old was admitted yesterday on an involuntary 48 hour hold. 24 hours later, the staff called me to obtain my consent for him to take his medication -they had neglected to give him his meds last night! So he went all day today without his meds. I tried to bring him home tonight, but I can't until 24 more hours pass. So I must leave him under the care of "professionals" who have already medically neglected him. It's outrageous that a modern and very expensive "hospital" fails to deliver doctor prescribed medications to their patients. I am sick and filled with regret about allowing him to be placed there. We tracked the phone via my phone and saw an employee had stolen it. It is impossible for me to understand Austin Oaks letting this to happen. Are we the first and only ones this has happened to? You answer that? The property was gone quickly after admittance. My son was admitted with a bi-polar psychotic break; he was on the phone with me as he was being admitted He said I need to get off the phone now they are taking it along with my belongings , ring, and watch and shoes etc. The hospital had my POA and it was still difficult to get information about his care and the meds he was being given. He had specific meds for many years and they were determined through his health physically and medically. The hospital gave him other meds. They released him in a different time than they told me and when he left his property was not there. An attendant told me initially he never had any property. I was told the admittance clerk was long time employee and there was no paperwork my son had the property. After we proved it and they admitted the employee had it, and Susan Bednar told me personally she would reimburse with receipts which I have given her over 3 times since last year 2022. Her answer is now she will only converse with my adult son. My son has called her, left her messages and sent her the info 4 times over the months since the theft. This hospital has a zero rating. There are other things that have many issues involved; but suffice to say my son is very afraid to ever be re-admitted to this facility. This place is horrible and inhumane. The nurse practitioner I had, Jessica, kept pushing drugs on me when I know it is my right to not take them. I told her multiple times I have major endocrine issues and didn't want to take so many medications and make things worse. I had adverse effects with multiple medications during my visit, one tech tried to make me take prolactin and I'm in ovarian failure! Jessica was also very condescending and continuously put words in my mouth, which made me believe things about myself that aren't even true. She even ridiculed me for "doctoring"myself...I know my body and I was feeling like shit because I knew my thyroid was acting up. Instead my concerns were disregarded and were chalked up to just being anxious and bipolar, which is not the correct diagnosis. The facility wouldn't even supply my thyroid medication and withheld my albuterol inhaler for three days. They wouldn't let me leave until I was heavily medicated and unable to function, I stayed way longer than I should have. I got some blood work back today from my GP and my TSH is currently at a 28...she was surprised I wasn't in a coma (see picture below). If this place genuinely cared about my well being I wouldn't be in this predicament right now. Also, let your chef know couscous is NOT gluten free. Couscous is a tiny pasta made of wheat or barley. I know because I was a chef for 10 years and I'm also Middle Eastern. I have celiacs disease and cannot eat couscous. He was extremely rude and arrogant about it when I asked and just said "I cooked it I know what it is". He could have hurt someone with his lack of knowledge in dietary restrictions. I'm not the only patient that had issues with their meals, some went without eating. This facility is nothing less than a cash cow. read more

Update: I just got my bill for this place. First, know that it is $800/day (not including physicians- and who knows how much they charge); they wouldn't tell me. I got put here involuntarily at 10pm on a Friday and she says those 2 hrs still costs $800 as it counts as a full day. Everyome is forced by law to be here a min of 48 hours and since there are no discharges on weekends, my total came out to $2400 (without physicans- I bet they're not even in-network doctors). Anyone associated with this place should be ashamed of themselves. Providing vulnerable, anxious patients 10 cent meals and showing us tv programs from 2017 all day. read more

I was a patient there and they were wonderful. I felt the staff try their best to understand and try to help every patient as much as possible. There were not too many activities because it was the weekend so we basically watch movies, did puzzles and drawing. However, it was a time where all patients gather together, shared their experiences and obviously hold everyone else's back. The ladies I were with they were amazing truly open my eyes and helped me to get through the rough patch. The facilities are very clean and they follow COVID regulations. It would've been nice to see a psychiatrist/therapist more often than every once in a while and also having more activities all around. The group therapies were the best part of my day. I wish I don't have to go back, but if I did need, I would totally choose Austin Oaks read more

My review is for the adolescent programs, both outpatient and inpatient. I've seen the negative reviews here and had a few people tell me to stay away. I'm guessing something has changed because this place is amazing. I had an 11 year old in the outpatient program earlier this year. The staff were wonderful, so caring and thoughtful. He really enjoyed going and said it was mostly just doing fun stuff. I don't think he even realized it was therapeutic. The experience really launched his recovery from some severe issues he's faced. My 16 year old was in the inpatient program for two weeks, suffering from depression, anxiety and paranoia. The staff always talked to me whenever i had questions. They let my son call me at times outside the regular calling time. They seemed kind and thoughtful and really cared. They stabilized him so he could come home and continue his treatment through the teen program. I knew he was safe and looked after. I'm sooooo grateful to Austin Oaks staff for looking after my sons. I can recommend it without hesitation. This is my first choice for any mental health condition that requires more than office treatments. read more

This so-called "hospital" is a complete joke! They did absolutely nothing to help my teenage son, who was suffering from depression and anxiety. The staff is unqualified, rude and worthless. I would call to speak with a nurse and kept getting transferred around until a very rude nurse would finally talk with me. They are completely mismanaged and all they want is to bill your insurance and make money off you. Please save yourself the time and heartache of trying to get help from this place. Terrible place to send your kid. First time they yank my kid off all the medicines they were on. My kid started throwing up due to going cold turkey. Sent home next day. Eight months later took my kid againa. They didn't help my kid at all with some serious issues. They said she didn't meet criteria, but the issues she said at the beginning was enough to take her in. On top of that if you drop stuff off in the morning doesn't mean your kid gets their stuff that day. Parents be warn this place doesn't help. read more

Of course, no one ever wants to need a psych hospital for their child, but it's good to know that safe places are available, if needed. We adopted a young teen who's been in the foster care system since he was 6, after sustaining significant trauma. He works really hard but needs extra help sometimes. The nurses and direct care staff at Austin Oaks are very caring and compassionate. They were kind to him, no matter how disregulated he became. They crafted a very unique program to address his special needs, even arranging for extra staff to insure safety. The clinical director, Molly Wang, was amazing. She really went out of her way to insure that our son would have the ongoing support he needed after his hospitalization.... meeting with us, calling other providers, advocating for him to be able to stay long enough to stabilize. She was very approachable and supportive, and we truly felt like she was part of our team. Our only concern was with the psychiatrist, who made drastic changes to our son's medication regimen without talking to us (or his longterm psychiatrist, even though we'd signed a release). The med changes really exacerbated the problems that had brought him to the hospital in the first place. Fortunately, that psychiatrist is no longer with the inpatient division, and our son's doctors are working to get his medications back into the therapeutic range. If you must seek out acute psychiatric care for your child, know that they will be well cared for at Austin Oaks. read more

This place is horrible. My wife went in voluntarily and she knew it was not for her right away. So they had her committed and put her on a 72 hour hold because she wanted to leave. After her 72 hour hold was up they refused to release her! They finally released her the next day after I threatened litigation! They told us when she was checking in the cost of her stay would be around $800-1000 a day. After they released her they called me to collect the bill, $1678 a day is their set price. When I asked why we were told $800-$1000 the lady said they must of guesstimated wrong. How do you guesstimate if you have a set daily price! This place only cares about money! They do nothing to help a person heal! The only way your getting out once your in is if your insurance stops paying or they think they will be sued! I'm looking for an attorney now, I hope to sue this "hospital" out of existence! read more

I would not recommend to take your child here if they are going through a mental health crisis. There's no way I can take the counselor serious there the turnover of staff this so often nobody knows what's going on and anytime anyone asked me about it I tell them to try somewhere else. Luckily I had told my town just to do it he needs to do to get out and sadly there is an enough help for adolescent that are in crisis.I chose this location because it was close to my house and I'm happy that my son is doing better but I cannot say that it's due to Austin Oaks. read more

This place... was horrific. It's taken me awhile to finally gather myself and write a review. I am still scarred to this day. My bra was taken from me. I had to walk around in this "facility" with no bra for days. I started my period. I had no underwear. I was degraded. The therapy was not therapy at all. The doctors, useless. The staff, useless. I gained more talking to other people. You cannot take a nap or get a moment of peace here. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. When filling out the paperwork to leave I felt inclined to give this place a good review in fear they would keep me if I did not. By far the worst experience I have ever encountered. A lady I was with and befriended in there committed suicide shortly after being released. This place DOES NOTHING. read more

The poor experience with the business side of things over there overshadows the pretty good clinical staff they have. For instance: I took 2 weeks FMLA leave from work to get help, get discharged and after multiple calls and *visits* on my part I still did not have a signed FMLA form and had to go up there myself and get them to fax other documents that would suffice for the FMLA approval. So I almost lost 2 weeks pay right after this deep emotional experience - how about some help after the visit Austin Oaks? Austin Oaks was anything but helpful, in fact I was told "we don't legally have to do anything" -- WOW. Even if that's true you have a duty to serve your patients better than this. All words are air. Then after receiving my first bill to my correct address, I did not receive another one for 60+ days, only phone calls that I'm gonna be sent to collections. Look, I'll pay any bill they want to send to the correct address but they are so disorganized that after calling and straightening this out I was called *again* with threats of collection. Seems they have the wrong address on file. WOW Get help elsewhere cause the experience with them after the fact will send you back to therapy fast. read more
