Called 24 hours later with the name of the Dr. only to be told they're "working" on it but now i was told it was gonna take up to 10 days. The communication is terrible and someone may tell you something one day and someone else is gonna tell you something completely different the next day. I wish these things could be said the first time instead of having to call 3 different days to get 3 different answers. The communication is terrible and seems like they don't know what they're doing. I wouldn't have an issue if these things were told in the first call i made. Ive been needing PT and its been beyond a hassle to get a referral after they recommended someone. I had a good experience in my first visit but this just voids that good visit. If you decide to go with them, make sure to ask every question and find out everything before hand so there's no surprised later.

His extreme thoroughness and clear diagnostics were very reassuring. Hours after surgery he was still available in the hospital to help me through reactions to medications. His post-op instructions were clear and reasonable. 8 weeks post op 100% feeling and function returned to my hands after 2 years of numbness. He was not sure how much damage was permanent but was pretty confident I would regain some function. I highly recommend him if you want a clear, thorough, confident, expert surgeon. Apparently he has trained internationally. Two doctor friends of mine had worked with him and highly recommended him as a surgeon and vouched for his reputation. My Physical Therapist and her business partner had direct, personal experience with him and confidently recommended him as my surgeon.

Dr. Ikbal is shockingly misinformed about nutrition, pushing urban legends that were disproved…read moredecades ago. This is all the more astounding because nutrition was her undergraduate degree. She also doesn't appear to practice evidence-based medicine. After her asking me what I eat in a typical day, she asked, "Where do you get your protein?" (Ugh. The idea that protein is hard to come by is flatly wrong and severely outdated. As Dr. Nestle, chair of the NY University nutrition dept. said, *26* years ago "We never talk about protein anymore, because it's absolutely not an issue, even among children. If anything, we talk about the dangers of high-protein diets. Getting enough is simply a matter of getting enough calories." The DV/RDA is ~8% of calories from protein, while grains are ~13% protein, vegetables 23%, etc.) She then tried to tell me that I had to combine plants foods to get a complete protein. (That was an urban legend promoted by a popular 1971 book, whose author recanted ten years later. The USDA nutrient database shows that individual vegetables, grains, and beans have all essential amino acids, in higher amounts than what we need.) Finally, she said I should eat more fat. I asked if there were science to support the idea that an addition of fat to an otherwise healthy diet improves health outcomes. Her reply was like, "I've been a doctor for 20 years...." Meaning, no science. By the way, she asked why I chose her, and I said that one of her patients wrote in a review about how he was able to get off all his meds for Crohn's Disease. Dr. Ikbal replied that the patient took himself off the meds, it wasn't her doing. Anyway, after hearing so much misinformation in just a brief, limited interaction, I have to wonder what other misinformation Dr. Ikbal is operating on. If you want a physician who practices evidence-based medicine, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. UPDATE: After I left the above review, suddenly DOZENS of glowing 5-star reviews appeared within a few days, about 1/3 of which are from people not even in the Austin area, many not even in the same state, and many of whom have zero other reviews on Yelp. Yelp has understandably moved most of these to the "Reviews Not Recommended" section. Is Dr. Ikbal buying fake reviews? Draw your own conclusions.

This was the worst medical experience of my life. I will not only never return, but I will also…read moremake sure none of my friends or family come to this place. I was seen on 6/11 by a presumptuous, entitled boy who calls himself a doctor. I had seen him before and was very displeased to see him again, but I decided to stop by because there has been a series of illnesses in my family. Even though I was starting to feel better, I wanted to ensure I didn't have strep since my husband had already tested positive and I am in early pregnancy. I thought they would be quick and it would be a simple strep test--what could go wrong? A lot, it turns out. First, the test came back negative. When I questioned the doctor and asked how it was possible to be negative when my husband was positive, he completely cut me off and asked how old I was. I told him I was 41, and he reacted by saying, "And you are pregnant???? Wow!" This made me feel horrible for being pregnant at my age, regardless of what he was truly thinking. It was completely unprofessional and showed he is clueless about the reality of the world, where more and more women are having babies in their 40s and it is perfectly normal. Even if he thought it was "too late," it is none of his business, and it was an unfortunate comment to make. But that is not the worst part. It turns out I didn't get better; I was spitting up blood clots all week, which I had mentioned to him. I finally went to another facility today, and I tested positive for strep. Seriously. You cannot begin to understand the level of outrage I feel right now. They took my money and my time, and they did me an incredible disservice that could have cost me my baby or my own life. They let a pregnant woman walk out thinking she didn't have strep when she actually did. Untreated strep is life-threatening. Thank God I listened to my husband and went to a real medical practice. This place is a disaster. They couldn't even diagnose something as basic as strep; can you imagine what else they might miss? This person should never be a doctor and should not be allowed to practice. EDIT to Respond to provider's note: The test was taken 5 days after experiencing symptoms. I told the provider (even worse for them not to give me a proper doctor!) that my husband had tested for strep and his symptoms evolved later than mine so yes, the test should have caught strep without a question. The second test I took was only 2 days after my test at Lewis, not several days. There is no excuse for the test to have come negative. And also I don't understand what you don't agree with regarding the pregnancy comment. That was the comment that was made. That's a fact, not an opinion. Made me feel bad and he had no place making such comment regardless of what his intentions really were. Period. This is not a comment one should make. It was wrong and it is even more terrible that you won't acknowledge how inappropriate it was. I'm so glad I went to a place who gave me a proper doctor and a proper test. Thank God.
