All the staff is very polite and doctor is wonderful. I make appointments very easily.

I've been going here for years. They are NEVER on time and their appointment duration is always 1 1/2 hrs at a minimum. Chronic disappointment with these folks. One star is too much for this place. If you are looking for unprofessional admin and a rude, callous, uncaring egotistical mainsplainer - this clinic and Dr. Zach (sp?) are for you. Everyone else, do yourself a favor and steer well clear. Especially if you have any kind of anxiety. We had an appointment for what turned out to be 24 hours from the time we arrived. Totally our fault, were it not for the fact that I had (correctly) second-guessed myself and called them in the morning to confirm. I was assured that the appointment was for today. When we arrived, we were told it wasn't. They squeezed us in, but we more than paid for it with our subsequent experience. A doctor presumably chooses their profession because they want to reduce the suffering of others. Kindness is a prerequisite, but today we would have gladly taken neutrality. My wife has hypersensitivity and anxiety. This makes getting eye exams difficult as her body involuntarily reacts to pull away and close her eyes. It's why she's never worn contacts and cannot administer eye drops to herself (she can't even touch her own eyes). She doesn't do this on purpose. It's not a character flaw or a sign of petulance. It's just how she is and that requires a lot of patience. She acknowledges this problem willingly and really tries to make things easier for the doctor. When the nurse tried to conduct an eye pressure test, she didn't manage to succeed, but suggested the doctor try instead. One would have hoped the doctor was more experienced with difficult patients, but that turned out not to be the case. Instead we got gaslit ("You can do this" and "It's not an instinctive response, it's you fighting me", said in a patronizing tone when all available evidence pointed to the contrary), belittled and condescended to ("I've had hundreds of patients and nobody else has done this", in response to an anxious patient having issues with having their eyes closely examined) and very quickly dismissed ("You should look for another doctor", at the first sight of a challenge). No, Dr. Z., this was not the first time you've came in contact with an anxious patient. You're not that lucky. And no, her response had nothing to do with you personally - your nurse should be able to attest to that. And yes, a different doctor might be a good option, but you could have suggested it in a way that didn't make you come off as abusive and insensitive. We aren't here to make your life easier - it's the other way around. And you'd do well to remember it. Fragile male egos are unacceptable most anywhere - they're especially unacceptable in a profession ostensibly intended to help the vulnerable. read more

The staff is very rude. the lady who did not let me talk when I called in to reschedule my husband's appointment. They sent him away twice stating he did not have the right paperwork every time I called them throughout the day they gave me attitude. Miss Nellie claims she is the owner of the business and that she does not have a boss to answer to and refused to give me her boss's name. I do not recommend you go to this office very unprofessional and needs to go back to school on common courtesy. I have been to the Aurora Eye Clinic on two occasions...Once for a detached retina and recently I had cataract surgery on both eyes...Both times my issues were corrected with no subsequent difficulties and way beyond my expectations... Dr. Zak performed my detached retina surgery and he was a total professional restoring my vision to near perfect...Only because of my tardiness in going to him was it not 20-20... Dr. Foody performed my cataract surgery to perfection...Way beyond my expectations... I love my new world without glasses or contacts...HD in both eyes...And my experiences were pleasant from the reception area on my first visit to every follow up visit since...I cannot recommend this team highly enough... If you are looking stop now and give this clinic a try; I am confident you will not be disappointed...They are quick, efficient and total professionals...No wasted time sitting in waiting rooms... POOR MANAGEMENT DOESN'T BEGIN TO DESCRIBE IT. 1st appointment - I had an emergency, but was told I would have to wait a month to see a doctor. After fighting to get an appointment, I was hustled into the overpacked waiting room, and lost an entire day of work JUST WAITING TO BE SEEN. The front desk did not send my info to the nurse, so she had no idea of my problem or my allergies. Then, after the appointment, they sent my prescription to the wrong location. 2nd appointment - today was the follow up. Only 2 patients in the waiting room this time, and they STILL couldn't handle paperwork for one of them. I was stuck waiting all afternoon and they then listed me as a no show while I was sitting RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. Why? Because one of the front desk people couldn't bother to pass one piece of paper through a window. WTF?!! Never going back there again! read more

My four-year-old son has horrible vision. The first time we were there we were there for over two hours. I thought maybe it was because they needed to do certain testing on him. However, this time we had an appointment at 10 o'clock and we left at 11:30 without even being seen. The doctor we initially saw was very nice, but not worth waiting for two hours. Doctor Barnes treated my grandmother, both parents, 3 aunts, and twin brother! To say he understands the family history puts it mildly. At age 45 i developed cataracts in both eyes and Doctor Barnes performed the surgeries on each eye. I would recommend no other nor would i see another doctor... to say we'll just keep Doctor Barnes in the family says it all! read more

I took my mother in to see Dr. Barnes and waited 2.5 hours to finally see him. Totally unorganized.

I first started having problems with my eyes in 2004, and have had continual issues since then. I continue to get my regular check-ups here despite the fact that I could go to an optometrist, mainly because I feel very cared for by Dr. Foody, who has even taken time out of his day to come and see me at the hospital when my condition(s) require it, just to check up on me. Because my medical issues can result in all kinds of crazy eye conditions, it's also very helpful that there are different doctors with more specialized skills or knowledge who can treat me, depending on what is going on with my eyes. I really believe that because of the Aurora Eye Clinic, Dr. Foody, and Dr. Polatnick (spelling??), I can still see well enough to be able to live an independent life. I really cannot thank them enough. For those paying out of pocket, you can definitely find places that are cheaper, but if you have a fairly/moderately serious eye problem, don't even mess around and make an appointment. read more
