Wandered past this fantasy fairyland of a little patio restaurant last night...a dark enclave lit with tiny white lights, decorated with natural wood and lots of plants. Very welcoming and warm, so I decided to head back to experience the perfect ambiance for myself, solo-style...especially since I've heard this is a pretty fantastic place for cocktails, as I soon discovered. The service is spot on, too!
I started with the "Green Sour" - bourbon, bitters, etc. Yum! And it was garnished with the first actual lemon I've seen in Mexico. Always limón!
My first course was asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, drizzled with balsamic and topped with freshly shaved Parmesan. A tad bit dry, but tasty - a nice light starter to my meal.
Main course was the Rosso: a steak cooked to order, on a bed of scalloped potatoes, mixed veggies, and a red-wine gravy. Normally I like my steaks medium rare to medium, but here in Mexico City anytime I specify "medio" I get a pretty much raw steak, just seared on the outside...so I started ordering "tres cuartos" (3/4). Sometimes these even end up raw. But not here!! This is the first chef I've found who cooks a steak to temperature correctly. With that said, ordering my steak 3/4 here meant it was overcooked according to my taste, but I certainly don't fault Aurora for that. This was a delicious dish!
I definitely will go back. Reservations are pretty much necessary from Wed-Sat nights, as this is a tiny place. Enjoy! :) read more
