If you are seeking to taste many high quality Mezcals in a cool, funky setting then this is a great option. We arrived at 6, but doors didn't open until about 7. Our goal was to score spots at the small bar. This place is small overall and if you want to have the tasting experience I suggest trying for a spot at the bar top. We spent some time at the small restaurant next door and enjoyed some great tacos and a quesadilla while we waited. The server let us know as soon as the bar opened and we dashed over to get our spots. We had a fluent Spanish speaker with us, so that was a huge help. Their Mezcal selection is organized by region and they were happy to consult on our preferences. Shots were generous and served with fresh orange slices, sometimes seasoned with a spice blend. We also sampled an ague fresca with ginger and tamarind that was great with the spirits. Music selection was crazy, obscure Japanese goth music maybe? I'm writing specifically about the little restaurant next door, attached, that is run by the Bósforo Mezcaleria people: It is superb and I highly recommend it. My friends and I had to be somewhere so didn't get a chance to hang out in the actual bar but I did stick my head inside and it looks great. I'll come back for that next time. read more

After a long day at the pyramids, we decided to give this place another try. We'd tried to go there on a Sunday but it read closed. Boy where we happy we made it! It's the greatest little hole in the wall place. When you step in, don't be intimidated by the mystic vibe of the music, incense burning and candlelight. The staff is the most friendly. They only serve small batch medical. Most of it not commercially available outside the little towns they come from. Diana at the bar is friendly and very knowledgeable about mezcal. Ask her to pour you her favorite from Sta. Catarina Minas, I promise you won't be disappointed. And the peanuts! read more

Garlic peanuts and oranges paired with delicious mezcal. The staff is extremely friendly - particularly Maggie who told us all about her favorite mezcals and how to drink them ("like a kiss"). She's also super glam. The vibe was just what we were looking for. Perfectly packed (we were easily able to get a seat on a Saturday night) and eclectic music. Unbelievable collection of mezcal from all reaches of Mexico. The staff was really helpful in choosing for those of us uneducated in the realm of the smokey liquor. What an experience. This two story dive scene bar was fantastic. Robust, full, bustling, busy! Just great. It was a tad hot inside but perfect outside to cool off. Service was fast considering the sheer amount of folks were there. The bar was wrapped twice and all tables were full. Upstairs every place a human could be experiencing fun they were. I was pleased with the beer selection and the sipping tequila. The show stopper for me was the mezcal. Smokey, rich, notes of earth and wood. It was magic in my mouth really. As a tourist I can say the entire square was dope to see. This just off the beaten path bar was the perfect way to end my trip to Mexico City and that night in particular. Go. Check it out. This was the best bar I went to during my week-long visit to Mexico City. Great atmosphere, mezcal selection (the best I have ever seen anywhere), and music. A lot of places probably have excellent mezcal in DF, but the DJ's choice ambient and tribal selections combined with the thick atmosphere were the cherry on top. Mezcal is my spirit of choice, and I am (ashamedly) a sucker for hidden speakeasies, so when a friend from DF took us to this unmarked black door and through the curtain to an intimate bar with mezcals from all over Mexico that aren't even sold in stores, I was in heaven. Found it interesting that locals accompany their mezcal with the local beer, but hey, when in DF... If I didn't have my local guide, I would have asked bartenders for special, unique mezcals they recommend trying. My husband and I spent two awesome evenings here on our recent trip to Mexico City. Bosforo was recommended to us by our AirBnB host. I don't think that we would have found it without him, because there isn't a sign; you just have to find the open doorway! But as soon as you walk in, you're in a cosy, comfortable, friendly little bar with a nice clientele and excellent bartenders. First of all, Bosforo has great prices for their mezcals. Everything we tried was between 55 and 80$ (Mexican), and some of these same drinks we were seeing on restaurant menus for well over 100$. Plus the selection is very interesting, arranged on a chalkboard by place of origin with prices and names clearly written. There must have been at least fifty options, probably more. They also serve a selection of cheap (35$) and nicer (80$) chilled beers. They don't do cocktails. With your mezcals or beers, you're given orange wedges and a tray of garlicky spiced peanuts (I loved these). Second, the bartenders here are lovely. On our first visit, when the bar was quiet, we were simply asked what type of mezcal we wanted to try. Herbal? Smoky? Very strong? We went by flavor and found some that we loved. It was obvious that the bartenders knew the mezcals; one of them even tasted a mezcal that we selected because she hadn't tried it before. On our second visit (a Friday), things were crowded and noisy, so we picked at random and still weren't disapointed. Despite the crowd, the bartenders were quick, helpful, and extremely kind to us despite our terrible Spanish! Finally, the atmosphere here is great. It gets noisy when crowded, but the music is kept tasteful and not too loud, and the patrons did not seem at all out of control. There is seating along the bar and along a back wall, and standing room around the doors. Up a small flight of stairs, there is a loft with floor cushions for about twelve or fourteen people. We left wishing that there was a Bosforo in our neighborhood at home. Highly recommended. read more

Favourite bar in town. The atmosphere was great, even though it got quite crowded when we were there. The high ceilings go a long way to making you feel comfortable in what would otherwise be a cramped space. This was one of my favorite bars that I visited in Mexico City. We arrived early (6:00 PM) and it was already almost full. The server was awesome and took the time to help us, even though our Spanish was so poor. She asked us what styles of mezcal that we liked and offered up great suggestions. Bosforo wasn't my thing, but I definitely see the appeal. It is tiny, dark, and packed AF. There's also not too much guidance when it comes to the mezcal, perhaps because I went when it was SO BUSY. I've come across some that I like, but the one I got here was like downing gasoline. Maybe I would suggest going a little earlier, I think it was like 1 am when I went.
