My child is a current patient at the Tempe facility. I have been very pleased with every staff member we have come across during this journey. From intake staff, nurses, therapists, psychiatrists, and support staff. Intake does take some time, realize you will be in the waiting area for quite a while, assume approx 5 hours or so. (Adolescents and adults will both be in the waiting room however, they have 2 separate buildings for kids and adults once they are assigned to a unit.) During that time your child will be evaluated by a nurse and a therapist. After that, there is a team that gets together to discuss a plan of action for your child. Be prepared to bring 4 comfy outfits. No strings in pants, no hoodies, no short shorts, no long socks etc. During your child's stay you can call anytime and speak to a nurse to get updates as often as you like. You can also call as often as you like to speak to your child however, they keep them pretty busy so you might have to leave a message for them to call you back. They also get 3 meals a day plus snacks! For adolescents the visiting hours are Wed 7:30pm- 8:15pm. Make sure to arrive at 7pm to get checked in. My child will be getting released soon and I am currently working with the social worker to set up therapy, medication management, etc for after discharge. We will have a set plan of care when my child leaves to continue therapy on an outpatient basis. Thank you to everyone at Aurora Tempe. This can be quite stressful on our kids and us as parents. My child had to stay here for a while, and it was an absolute nightmare. The staff treated me and my family terribly. They rarely answered the phone, and when they did, they were often rude and dismissive. Most of the time when I called to check on my child, the response was a curt "I don't know." At one point, a nurse even replied with just one word: "Terrible." It's clear that many of the employees lack proper training in empathy and trauma-informed care. I filed a formal complaint with the director, who offered an apology--but it felt insincere and ultimately changed nothing. This facility and its staff caused my family more pain and trauma than anything else, and I had to pay for it. In my opinion, there is zero accountability here. I'm sure someone will reply with, "Please contact our director because we care," but that's simply not true. They do not care about their patients or their families. This place is cool and all but they make it very hard to leave. My family member VOLUNTARILY came here and the doctors are making it very hard for him to leave. He is not a danger to anybody and he feels like it's hard to advocate for himself and I'm literally not allowed to be there to advocate for him either so he's alone with people that wanna force him to stay. He thinks it's for the money because he has good insurance. He's improved so much. Not only that but if he isn't doing as well as I think I wouldn't be able to know because the doctors are literally IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of. Funny how as soon as he signs an AMA he gets transferred somewhere with "higher level of care". I don't trust these people. And let's not mention the attitudes of the front desk ladies. read more

A family member was sent here from the ER. He was handcuffed and hauled away to CBI today due to his behavior because on Sunday he was crying and upset because he wanted to come home. This was day 6. I was told he was banging his head on the table and cussing people out. And today was punching walls and ripping paper. Not ok. But handcuffs for someone who attempted suicide days prior seems counterproductive and traumatizing. I let the therapist know that we have a therapist for him and he already has a psychiatrist. Were they trying to keep him 10 days to make more money? He did not actually sign an AMA. I will be making a formal complaint to the Az Dept of Health services. As I'm reading reviews, I'm seeing themes about AMA's. Is someone getting a kickback or something? read more

Worse. Doctors are not reachable, only one request was responded to by both psychiatrist and medical provider in four days. No intake taken from family regarding past and present history of medical illness. The medical provider responded after almost six hours wait; there was also no response from on-call on preceding night. Risk manager threatened to call the police for sitting in the lobby for long to wait for the doctor. Staff will promise a call back and only two nurses will call back while the unit manager, risk manager, and some nurses will not. Nurse was called 3-4 times and am informed nurse is "out." How can a nurses be out longer than an hour in this setting? Supervisor hanged up in the middle of the conversation with my son. Main line was no longer reachable after a day or two. Two incidents happened prompting my loved one to request for AMA. No discharge paper was given upon discharge. read more

Avoid Aurora at ALL Costs - A Personal Experience I worked at Aurora for 6 years, serving as both a nurse (RN) and a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT), and I dedicated myself to providing high-quality care. Throughout my tenure, I developed excellent relationships with staff at all levels--doctors, nurses, BHTs--and I was deeply passionate about helping patients with psychiatric and addiction issues, particularly in addiction recovery. As someone in recovery myself (over 10 years sober from alcohol), this work was not just a job but a calling. During my 6 years at Aurora, I received positive annual reviews every year, took minimal time off, and worked through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. I expanded my roles into ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) and outpatient nursing, and I even worked many weekends to help cover staffing shortages. I was truly invested in the organization and its patients. However, after 6 years of loyal service, I was fired without warning or a proper review process--via voicemail, just two days before Thanksgiving. The reason for my termination? A mistake with the punch-in clock (which was chronically malfunctioning) and a documentation error I made when I worked as a BHT (even though I am an RN, I would regularly step in to help out as a BHT due to chronic staffing shortages). Rather than provide proper training, issue a warning, or give me a chance to correct these minor issues, the Director of Nursing, Dawn, chose to fire me without any formal process. I never received specific BHT training (despite my many years of experience in nursing), and I never had the chance to address these issues through a feedback or review process. There was no opportunity to correct my mistakes or demonstrate that they were isolated incidents. To make matters worse, Aurora's administration (especially Dawn) has consistently shown a lack of care or respect for the employees who are working on the floor. It's evident that the business is more focused on profits than the people who make it run, despite the fact that I had invested thousands of dollars' worth of training into the company--training that Aurora will now have to pay for again, at the expense of both time and money. I also want to note that there's been talk within the ECT department, where staff--including both nurses, the ECT doctor, and anesthesiologists--express concern about the administration's health practices, particularly Dawn's frequent vaping outside the ECT suite. It's been mentioned that her behavior may be negatively impacting her decision-making and overall leadership. In summary: I was fired after six years of hard work and loyalty, including significant contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic. My termination was for a minor mistake on a malfunctioning clock and a documentation error when working as a BHT. No formal review or warning was given, and no opportunity to correct the errors was provided. Aurora's leadership, particularly Dawn, fails to support staff and instead shows a lack of care for the people on the front lines. If you are a nurse who takes pride in your work and values the well-being of your patients, do not work for Aurora. In fact, even CBI (an organization with its own challenges) treats its staff better than this, and that's saying a lot. Goodbye, Aurora. Thank you for the thousands of dollars in training you provided me--it's helped me build a better resume and find a job at a much more respectful and professionally run facility. I was a patient here during rough times in my life. I would just like to say i felt very cared for by all the nurses in my unit. When I was going through withdrawals they took good care of me and checking up on me every day. Even during times of violence in the ward they took it very seriously and made sure everyone was aware of the consequences. If it wasn't for this place I wouldn't be three years sober today! PLEASE DO NOT GO TO AURORA, DR. LUNA CONTINUES TO BE IN MY NIGHTMARES AND GENUENLY SCARES ME. I left this place more traumatized than feeling better. My experience at Aurora Behavioral Health was deeply troubling and left me feeling more distressed than when I arrived. I came to the facility during a panic attack, which was passive rather than active. Unfortunately, my time there was marred by several issues, from questionable practices to inadequate care. Initial Impressions and Check-In Process: Upon arrival, I was subjected to an intrusive check-in process. I was asked to strip down to my underwear so a staff member could inspect my tattoos. This felt unnecessary and invasive. I was then informed that I couldn't wear my clothes until I met with the doctor the next day. This initial treatment set a negative tone for my stay. Medical Evaluation and Treatment: I met with Dr. Luna Ananda the following morning, who spent less than five minutes with me. Despite my explanation that I had existing outpatient services, medication management, and a strong support system, Dr. Luna dismissed these factors and placed me under a 72-hour hold. When I inquired about adjustments to my medication, she stated no changes would be made and abruptly ended the meeting by telling me to go have lunch. Interactions with Staff: The social worker, Valerie, was particularly unhelpful. She seemed disconnected and did not advocate for me effectively. Her condescending attitude and lack of engagement were frustrating. It was clear that she wasn't interested in understanding my situation or facilitating my discharge. I requested her services every day and she only came to speak to me ONCE. A substitute doctor, whom I don't recall the name of, was more understanding. She took the time to explain the 72-hour hold process and indicated that I could potentially be discharged based on my progress. However, this was a temporary relief as the subsequent interactions did not improve my overall experience. Facility Conditions and Safety Concerns: During my stay, I experienced significant anxiety due to the facility's conditions. At one point, a patient in the Guadalupe unit was a danger to others, leading to the cancellation of activities and increased security measures. This situation heightened the overall sense of fear and discomfort among the patients, including myself. Discharge Process: When I met with Dr. Luna again, she was dismissive and confrontational. She questioned my eagerness to leave and seemed frustrated when I insisted on discharging myself at the end of my 72-hour hold. after signing an AMA, she proceeded to yell at me and threaten to call the police and have me admitted somewhere else. Despite her initial reluctance, she negotiated my discharge at 10 AM the following day, after initially stating my discharge from Monday to Sunday to Saturday. However, the process was poorly managed. My spouse and sister were not informed of my discharge despite leaving multiple messages for the staff, including those for Valerie and another staff member named Jasmine, since Valerie was "too busy, and not at the desk" Final Observations: Nurse Hannah was the sole exception to the overall negative experience. She was supportive, answered my questions, and provided clear information. Her efforts were appreciated and contrasted sharply with the lack of empathy from other staff members. Unfortunately, Dr. Luna's handling of my case was deeply unsatisfactory. She kept me in the facility for 86 hours beyond my will and altered my medication regimen without my consent (upped my dosage, without my consent). Conclusion: Aurora Behavioral Health fell short in several critical areas, including patient communication, respect for personal autonomy, and overall care quality. My stay was characterized by inadequate treatment, poor staff interactions, and unsettling facility conditions. I am sorry to have to write this review. Took my teen who suffers from emotional and verbal abuse. She was in a unit with combative patients that bullied, called names made to feel unsafe and her tears were dismissed by staff. Called and questioned nurse who was aware of what was happening and he seemed compassionate and was aware of the situation, but said there was nothing they could do about the abusive behavior of other patients. The place came recommended as a safe place and less agressive patients. Need to have wards for different behavioral needs of patients. read more

As difficult as the experience has been, Aurora was a godsend. Tessa emailed me about every update, and her progress in finding placement for my child. I thought I'd be doing it all on my own, and I had a team fighting for me and my family. Every staff member I came in contact with was lovely and kind. I'm overwhelmed by all the work done by Tessa and everyone behind the scenes at aurora. In a place that deals with the most difficult situations I found kindness and hope. It's up to my child to decide if she accepts the help she's offered or to be angry, but it doesn't change how Aurora took care of our family. I'll be forever grateful!! read more

I thought that getting professional help for my suicidal thoughts was a good idea. I was WRONG. Dr. Luna, Steve and most of the rest of the staff contributed to me becoming more stressed and hopeless. If they would have only listened to what I telling them I would not be homeless. I would have been able to keep from living on the streets if aurora would have been honest upfront. "Dr." Luna is the monster in my nightmares, laughing as I tell her that what she is doing is making my life harder and hurting me. All the while Steve stares at me with a blank expression as I explain that I need to work to make the money needed so that I'm evicted from my apartment. If they would have listened I would not of had attempted suicide on Sept 7 and still have my apartment. I was not successful and I'm still homeless. I still struggle with my suicidal thoughts. I have given up on getting professional help because it only made my life worse. I have gone back to self treating my depression as I have done for over 20 years. In closing I would like to say. DO NOT visit aurora behavior health. My advice is to fight your depression with fun. Go outside and play. Ride a bike, hike, skateboard or simply go for a walk. I brought my teen daughter here (Tempe) recently to help with her SI, and I want to address a few things: 1. Yes, when you bring your loved one in, you will be waiting in a common waiting room for several hours, just as you would at any hospital ER. I would prefer separate waiting areas for adults and adolescents, but from what I saw, it likely isn't practical. 2. It's true that you will not be permitted to use your cell phone inside the facility. This is because cell phones have cameras, and patient privacy must be maintained to comply with HIPAA. The easiest thing for everyone is for you to leave it in your car. 3. The facilities are older, so don't expect shiny brand new decor, but the staff clearly keeps things clean and orderly. 4. The gentleman who was supervising the room, checking in belongings, distributing scrubs, taking vitals, providing snacks, and generally making sure everyone was taken care of is outstanding. I saw Darius treat each patient with kindness and compassion while maintaining order and efficiently executing his duties. His humor throughout was especially appreciated at a difficult time. 5. Kelly is the nurse who spoke with my daughter about her medical history. She answered any questions we had in simple, straightforward terms and eased my daughter's anxiety about the TB test. Kelly is a wonderful example of the excellent staff at Aurora. 6. I really wish I could remember the name of the woman who interviewed my daughter about her symptoms. She was amazing. My daughter did not want to stay in an inpatient facility and did her level best to talk her way out of it by minimizing her SI. She gently yet firmly explained why there is still cause for concern and how she could benefit from some extra support right now. This process hasn't been easy on any of us, and I am truly grateful to her. Thank you, purple person. 7. Since my daughter was admitted, communication has been excellent. The staff has kept me up-to-date and cheerfully answered all of my questions. So far, kiddo is doing well, and I am hopeful that this will be a real turning point for her. Bringing your child into a psychiatric facility is a difficult decision, and intake can be a long and draining process. It's hard. But I hope that this will help you go into it at least somewhat prepared. Accept that the process is what it is, and focus on being there for the one you love to help ease the transition for them. All in all, I have nothing but respect for the people at Aurora and the work they do. read more

Please DO NOT GO HERE please! i was a patient there, Guadalupe Unit. I was discharged a few months ago. Whoever ends up reading all of this, i'm sending you my love it's a long one TW: Dude i literally never felt so s*cid*l the first 3 days i didnt eat or left the room and they rarely check on me and when i mentioned i might have a e@ting disorder they were rude about and i 100% believe they didn't believe me...it made me feel so sh*tty. Let's also mention the fact that i told them i don't go by the gender i was assigned to they CONSTANTLY misgendered me AND DEADNAMED me like i didn't REPEATEDLY told them what my NAME IS. and it's actually the first thing i said when i was getting admitted. Sooo i'm going to say they aren't LBGTQ+ friendly. A nurse told me that i couldn't wear my binder because i was "harming" myself, like wtf? (later on i was able to wear it, *3 days passing* TOOK them forever to say yes though) also they don't allow piercings but i made them my b*tch on that one lol i told them no if not to transfer me. Oh and there's this one nurse who i guess just don't have the brains to understand how gender works. he kept trying to tell me how i'm supposed to feel or WHO i am. ENOUGH WITH THE LABEL SH*T! Only ONE person actually listened to what i had to say and it was a social worker, she was so nice to me. i really hate this f*cking place. The psychiatrist there her name is Dr. Luna shes like the rest of them, only speak to you for 5 seconds and moves you along. Oh and let me mention the fact that a patient was going in peoples rooms and one night that patient was watching me sleep and the nurses didn't even check on OR know. Staff will placate instead of medicate despite medical history of type one diabetes I was refused medical attention when asking if they can provide me with insulin. When my vital signs and blood sugar were tested the Glucometer read, "HI". The nurse was told I suppose by the charge nurse to retest so he did w the charge sitting right next to me. They advised I was going to need to sign medical release to release my care to the hospital. That was over an hour ago. I'm still presently waiting for someone to transport me to the Emergency room for insulin therapy... I asked if there was a faster way considering this is a medical emergency why don't they have the ambulance come instead of my insurances transportation and the nurse placated me by saying there doing everything they can. I kindly asked Rob who is the staff on duty in the evaluation room for a grievance form and he said he'd have to call someone to get it for him. I then asked if he could make that call and he assured me he'd get it to me when the nurse who is coming to do my transfer comes. I kindly responded by saying I'd like to complete it before I get transported because I may not even be back tonight. Well surprise, surprise! Rob found a grievance form! I dislike the system when it comes to addressing diabetic needs as it pertains to my mental health. I feel neglected by nurse staff and pacified when requesting things like insulin or grievance forms which are well in my right despite being in a hospital. Some days are good there but a lot of days people are angry or crying and staff is frequently abrasive if you approach them for assistance. I have seen how staff gets in other patient's faces when a patient is having a breakdown and it isn't impressive. Staff is very judgemental and will call patients somatic which I think means psychosomatic... which means you are faking it... in volume patients can overhear. Nurses will argue with patients and their techs out in the open sometimes. Techs and nurses seem to be on their phones all the time. read more

Staff is incredibly rude. The lower level workers are burnt out. They engage in inappropriate behavior with patients and are hush hush about it. If you call the director or anyone they wont take grievances it suddenly becomes Protected Health Information, how is providing information about your incompetent night staff a HIPAA violation? I'm not requesting information I'm providing it... that's their way of not taking the complaint and pawning you onto someone else. Staff member said to my mother "Dont you know black people don't take all this medication, all you have to do is refuse it and I don't have to give it" Btw Lisa that works the front desk in evening still has the nastiest attitude. Rooms are decent, and the unit I was on was pretty nice, all things considered. I would definitely recommend seeking help here if you need it- the program is top notch. WARNING: AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! This place is beyond terrible, and may cost someone their life. I brought my close friend there yesterday at 5pm. It took a while for the lady at the front desk to return from wherever she was in the back, and once she was there I checked my friend in. As we were waiting, the front desk lady was chit chatting with another employee. Eventually a third employee joins their conversation and they're casually hanging out for about 10-15 minutes before the third employee finally walks up to us and says "Oh, sorry, I didn't see you there" (as if the front desk lady never stopped the conversation to let him know we needed to be admitted). He then said he would get everything ready and would call my friend back in five minutes. It was an hour later when my friend finally got called back for intake. I was told they would have my friend call me once they were settled in. Totally understandable, and since I'm not family, I didn't expect to be given much more info. I left after 6pm and planned to wait to hear back from my friend. He called me at 2am saying that they were releasing him. He had been trying to detox off of Fentanyl and they kept him for roughly eight hours and then booted him out in the middle of the night! The intake person had told him that he "hadn't scored high enough" on their intake questionnaire and that they had to clear him out. He had a mental health breakdown and was high on fentanyl. I can't even fathom how or why someone would decide to force him to leave. Especially at 2am when he was already feeling depressed and possibly could have gone on to hurt himself. On top of all that, he had cut his hand punching a mirror. He was bleeding when I brought him in. It wasn't bad enough to need stitches fortunately. I told them about it and they saw it when we were waiting for intake. Yet no one even cleaned it or provided any medical assistance whatsoever. They left him on the street at 2am with blood all over him. THIS PLACE IS DANGEROUS AND CAN POSSIBLY RESULT IN THE DEATH OF A LOVED ONE. THEY ARE NEGLIGENT AND DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS!!! ***6/9/21*** I am adding this to respond to the business owner's reply. I called yesterday morning to speak with someone about this matter. I was transferred to the person who would handle my complaint. They never answered their phone and the person in HR who transferred me said they could not track them down in the building. Well let's just say this I was there for my behavior system and they control fights in the hallway before they happen and I'm glad that they do because I almost got into an altercation with a girl that was in the mental hospital a few rooms down from where I was and it was handled by the adults in that specific unit and once they heard me yelling at the girl they immediately came out and stopped me from going after that girl they separated me and the girl so that we didn't fight here I am now in 2021 a couple months after I was there I hope I don't go back because well first the police were called to my location and they were able to get me to calm down and after that the crisis team came and they asked me and my mom questions and I willingly went there to take care of my behavior and I am a lot better since thank you aurora ! read more

I am reviewing as the parent of a teen who was inpatient at Aurora in December 2020. My daughter was admitted to aurora via the ER. We had an appointment to meet the ambulance there at 9PM. They unloaded her and we were told it would be at least a 3 hour wait. It was almost a 5 hour wait in the waiting room where adult patients wait alongside adolescent patients. They take all personal belongings at this stage (including the parents cell phone) so you have nothing to pass the time during this 5 hour wait other than whatever tv show re-runs they decide to play. Other than the wait, the admission process is uneventful. The staff we met was nice and offered snacks and juice. I finally left just after 2am when my daughter was taken upstairs to her room to get some sleep. After that I was severely disappointed with the amount of communication Aurora offers parents of underaged patients. I got one phone call from a doctor letting me know he thought my daughter had general anxiety and mood disorder and wanted permission to put her on two medications. I got a few calls from a social worker named Sam who told me we would have a meeting with him and the doctor to go over her diagnosis and treatment plan. That never happened. My husband and I called multiple times trying to get updates and got no information. Just two days into her stay, the billing department called me and harassed me for money to cover her stay. They told me that my responsibility would be close to $4000. I asked how they even knew what the charges would be when we did not even know how long my daughter would be inpatient or what her treatment plan was?! They must have had more communication from the doctors than I did because they were sure they knew the cost of the treatment. I let them know I would not be paying until I had an explanation of benefits from my insurance provider and they were upset by that. It felt more like I was dealing with debt collectors than with people who were supposed to be caring for my daughter. After 6 days inpatient we went to pick her up and they literally just sent her with us. The doctor didn't talk to us, they didn't say how she was doing or what the treatment plan was or what they worked on. They didn't tell us what her medication schedule was or even if she had taken them that day. We had to ask! She did say she felt better and that the medicine they prescribed had helped her. I asked her about what she learned and she said "controlling my emotions" and I was excited and asked how they taught her to do that and she said "just don't do the bad things you think about doing". As if I have not told her those exact words more times than I can count. We called a few times after she came home to talk to a doctor about the lack of communication and to ask what they recommend for a treatment plan and nobody ever called us back. We have however had almost daily calls from the billing department trying to collect the $9,000 they are billing for her stay. Because of the lack of communication and my daughter not seeming to take anything away from her stay there, we feel like we paid for a very expensive week of babysitting rather than a 6 day hospital stay. read more

While having free beds, as a private hospital, you'd think that they would be more than happy to admit someone rapidly becoming manic who is also WANTING to check in, but no she wasn't manic enough to be hospitalized. Had they checked any of her psychiatric records it would be clear that she should have been admitted to ensure that she stabilized, but since they didn't or didn't care they told her that she didn't meet the criteria.... criteria for what though? She was entirely voluntary, and I've had the the pleasure of involuntarily having her admitted on several occasions and those "criteria" should have no bearing on a voluntary patient who just wanted to get help before it got bad. This place brought me back to life, gave me hope and provided me with skills that I am using to waylay my depression. Taught me how to identify triggers. Our review is not about the facility itself since we never got past my husband's evaluation stage for severe depression, however we give a zero rating to the psych doctor who evaluated him, Dr. Brian Espinoza. A little background on us...we traveled 700 miles from a small town in Central CA to this facility since there is no place near us that specializes in ECT therapy. We have family in Scottsdale who would be here to support both of us during my husbands anticipated treatment. We rented a small apartment via Airbnb in Tempe so we wouldn't be far from the facility and it would be easy for me to drive in order to drop off and pick up my husband for out-patient treatments. Our team from our local hospital were working with the ECT staff at Aurora East via phone and fax making sure they had all my husbands medical records, etc. Dr. Espinoza spent one hour and fifteen minutes with my husbands evaluation and my sister-in-law sat in as support. The three of us were shocked and appalled by the doctor's lack of empathy or sympathy, his complete mis-doagnosis and his pompous attitude that it was not debatable. He informed us of two things my husband should have done, healthwise, prior to coming in for this type of therapy which could make this treatment more effective. These items were never discussed with our hospital team prior to us organizing this trip or we never would have planned it this soon. When we mentioned this to he told us he was not here to educate us. We did not agree with his diagnosis and when we told him this he said he wasn't the doctor for us and he walked out of the room. We were seen out of the facility by a staff member who said pleasantly "Have a nice day!" That whole episode nearly sent my already severely depressed husband over the edge as he had lost all hope for any care for his condition. Now we have to begin again at square one. Our entire experience with Dr. Espinoza was negative and disheartening. read more

DO NOT GO TO AURORA I checked myself into the Glendale facility on a Friday night, I was not exactly suicidal but was deeply depressed, with an alchohol problem. Good luck getting to sleep on the "bed" (it's a mat) with a "pillow" that offers no support. But if you don't sleep, they will give you a hard time. I managed to get some sleep during the day, but had to miss some group sessions, which makes it look like you're not participating and refusing treatment. Within 5 minutes of seeing the doctor he wanted to put me on anti depressants, I made it clear to him that I have tried many anti depressants over the last 6 months and didn't believe I had a chemical imbalance. They will however, forget to give you your dinner if you're talking with a doctor during dinner time, and then an hour and a half later say "oh yeah I forgot to give you the dinner they brought up" which by then is just cold mush. That night, the gave me sleep medication which is KNOWN to make people extremely hungry, I had to ask several different times over the course of 2 hours if I could simply get a sandwich (which they do have, and had no problem giving me the night i checked in) only to tell me they basically had more important things to do, and gave me a small snack. Again, no sleep for me that night with a growling stomach. I somehow managed to get out of there on Sunday morning without having to sign an AMA. Now I'm stuck with a $400 bill (after insurance) but it's illegal for them to mention what my copay would be upon checking in. The whole time I was there, the only "treatment" offered to me was someone explaining breathing exercises. Keep in mind these people are making $1200 a day per person that stays there, but they can't give me a sandwich when I'm starving? And we wonder why we have so many mentally ill folks in America. On the other hand, desert vista in mesa, while essentially being the exact same hospital, had way nicer staff, didn't charge me a dime for the 4 days I was there. You could have visitors every day for about 4 hours (aurora was twice a week for one hour...) But I was with people in desert vista who were much more mentally ill than those at aurora, it didn't make sense to me why they had bathrooms with doors you could close, and you could keep your toiletries in the room with you. I would urge anyone thinking of going to aurora to literally go to ANY other facility -Adam B read more

This place helped me! Over a year later I'm still sober! I needed help to detox from alcoholism. I still struggle but I'm sober! The staff was very kind. And a lot of patients were really rude and even tried fighting some of the staff but the staff still stayed helpful and professional. I recommend this place if you're looking to get some help and to detox from drugs or alcohol. God bless all the staff and patients! This place is awful. And I mean it. I had another patient punch me as hard as he could in the face. I could have killed him but I expected staff to deal with it. Staff did nothing. They were giving him a cigarette 2 minutes after. I called the police to file charges and the head bitch of a nurse refused to give the police any of the patients info. They didn't move him to another unit. They refused to give the detectives the video of the incident or release his name. So if you want to lose all your rights and go somewhere the law does not apply to your safety then this is the place for you. read more

Ok let me update this. I was in this hospital 2 years ago. The Dr was my Dr that I saw for 3 years Dr Akter. His hospital. I was very scared to go back to Aurora because of being assaulted a couple times at the Glendale location. But decided to go in because yes, I was not stable at all and by going cold turkey on meds after my Moms passing and with depression because I would tell Akter so many times the medications just weren't working for me. Anyway the FIRST night was beyond horrible. Took hours to check in. They take me in and I tell the nurses and technicians I had not been taking medications and had not slept in a week. Maybe an hr a day because my mania was keeping me up. Ok, now, after I finally get admitted I go up to the nurses table and ask for some medication to get some sleep. They refuse and a technician makes a remark saying "no buddy. Not with your behavior you are staying in here". Let me remind you I voluntarily check myself in. So with that remark I ask to use a phone and a technician points at the phones "it's not phone time" so we get into an argument and I just stood there demanding some medication to sleep or a phone call and got neither. So after arguing, a group of male technicians try to start intimidating me. I did not back down. So the grab me and shove me into the bedroom I was assigned. I come out we get into an argument and then they grab me and physically assault me. Yes assault. I had bruises from my shoulder to my wrists, a cut lip, cuts all over my face when I was punched in the face by some technicians as well. After taking a beating I get hit with a shot of medication and next morning I wake up and could not believe that it actually happened. Then I'm told by family that the staff told them I got into a big fight with a patient. Um what!!!? At 2-3am the first night I checked in? Ok if that's not bad enough let me continue a little more. I did not have any type of hot or mild temp shower. Ice cold shower as well as being told to "use the hand soap in the bathroom". So at that point I couldn't take it anymore and just stopped showering. Now as for the patients, the technicians would just let other patients yell at each other and laugh when it happened. If a fight broke out the techs would slowly put there gloves on. How about this for a tech? I run into one at my gym a few months later and in front of a worker the tech smirks and says "remember me I was in aurora with you" that was one of the techs that assaulted me. Ok so here's what happens next. On my last night I was given so much medication that I felt slowed down. Then a nurse tells me "hey it's time for you to go home". I go outside and there are 2 police officers waiting for me and then cuff me. I ask what's going on and one officer told me I do have a right to remain silent and to remember that. I was so confused. Well, once I'm out in the back the officers tell me they had to cuff me because my Dr listed me as suicidal. The cops couldn't believe how bad I looked either and told me I was going to community bridges and everything would be ok and no I wasn't arrested. When I went to community bridges, the techs there just could not believe how bad of shape I was as well as when I blew into the blood alcohol I was over the legal limit. How is that even possible? Well because of the meds the Autora put me on. I was told at community bridges that I would not have to go to another hospital if I got past the 72hr hold. I mean in community bridges I ran into a buddy from college and he just could not believe how out of it I was and just how bad my entire body looked. The nurses could not either and immediately gave me medications to reduce my bruises, my bloodied knees, and got a new Dr order to put me on a different medication. When it came to shower time I swear I probably took a 45min shower. The techs and all the staff in community bridges basically saved me. read more

This is a good place to come if you need a safe place to detox but not if seeking help for mental health. I spent a week here after having a mental health crisis. After a week I learned I'm a very good at coloring and doing word finds. I did not feel listened or heard when I was here. I thought there would be one on one therapy as well as group therapy. They was maybe group therapy. It never went on time or for the full time. The doctor was rude and I felt like I couldn't talk to him. It was very in and out. My social worker only met with me a few times. I asked to speak with her many times and she never came. When we did talk it was very brief. She also didn't fill out my paperwork so my discharge got delayed by 2 hours. I got more out talking to peers rather than the groups. The staff is rude and do not care about us as people. We get treated horribly and not as a person.They show favoritism hard-core. I had complaints about staff making me uncomfortable and nothing was done. Also other patients making me uncomfortable and nothing was done as well. I was scared at many times but felt I couldn't say anything because no one took anything seriously. The food is gross and they aren't that accommodating. I have food issues and I met with a dietitian who was more concerned about going on her trip the next day and didn't help me at all. I lost 7 pounds well in treatment. This place is more to keep you safe and make sure they put you on a good med then they sent you off. Also I'm from out of state and I feel like they didn't even try to call and get appointments set up for me when I returned home. My doctor back home said she called many times but no one ever answered or called her back. Super frustrating. The techs need training/A certificate or degree or something because they treated us so bad! The only good techs I had were Sue, Josh, and, Brian, and then David(nights). My nurses were okay some cared more than others and were way kinder. Lena, Chad, and Brenda were all amazing and you could tell they truly cared and wanted the best for you! I'm grateful for them!! The director of quality gave me the number to call so I could further give them information on what they can improve on. The number they gave does not work. It's been about a month now since I have been home. Since being home I have major PTSD. And I haven't been able to sleep. A lot of it probably has to do with getting a flashlight to your face every 15mins during the night, then yelling at you to wake for breakfast and only giving you 5 mins to be out and ready to go. When I got home and had follow up appointments(that I had to make myself) I found out I was on the wrong medication, and it was actually making things worse. Even when I was at the facility the doctor changed my medicine three times in three days. That is not okay. If you come in by yourself (not from the hospital) make sure you have clothes. They will NOT provide you any. You get two gowns. They do have a " donation bin" but not much and you only get to use/see it if you are a favorite. This plays a huge role in mental health and getting better. We are not prisoners.. we are people. Give us some clothes so we can feel more normal. If it wasn't for an amazing sweet tech who brought me a outfit it would have effected my mental health so much more. I was glad when I left I was able to pass the outfit on to someone else to help them feel more normal. This place has no respect for people... you aren't treated as such. The techs think it's fun to mess with you and get in your head. They have to take you outside even though it's fully secure and the can see everything from inside. They refuse to take you out. They are mean about it. The techs will meanly joke with you and if they see someone getting picked on they sit back and watch. The TVs and phones are suppose to be off during group time however most of the time they allowed "favorites" to go ahead with it anyways. This place looks nothing like the pictures. The people in charge of billing are rude AF. They make up a price to pay (A ridiculous amount). Send the bill after the timeframe for financial aid then tell you, you have 90 days to pay or we will send you to Collections. That is not right and fair. It doesn't make sense and they don't need to be so rude about it. read more

I did a favor for a friend and dropped off some items of clothing for a patient on January 12th. The woman at the front desk was quite possibly the rudest, most discourteous person I've ever met. Who knows how they treat their patients behind the scenes. Absolutely disgraceful. read more

First time and last time there. No information is given as to what where or how. I walked in on my own and barely made it out as they wanted me stay 2 weeks and I was there for detox only which only lasted two days. I felt like I was in juvenile detention with the swearing and throwing of stuff at employees. Nothing was said to any of them. I person controlled the tv who was also a patient. The night crew does not care much especially Daily he was terrible. I would not recommend to anyone. read more

I went in on a Sunday the first thing I asked was how much does does my insurance cover and how much would I need to pay I kept asking that question up until the last second they said it's all okey for now they did an evaluation will let you know once they talk to the insurance what my coverage is they said I would need intensive therapy three hrs. Day 3xs a week that's it they call me Wednesday afternoon to specifically ask for my debit card number I obviously quickly ask what they need it for she said oh it's just a Requirement in order to roll me as a patient I Astor so how is this going to work she said your insurance we already talk to them for the first two weeks you don't need to pay absolutely nothing your insurance covers that you have $1000 the insurance provides and starting the third week you just have to pay $45 dls and I asked are you gonna take that out of the card or why do you need it and she said again no it's just a requirement to enroll you as a patient for the first two weeks you don't pay nothing and starting the third week do you make that payment and you actually do it in person sent at the time of the treatment the day so you don't go to treatment obviously you don't pay I show up on Thursday for treatment it turns out that it's nothing but like alcoholic anonymous and it's a group therapy where you have to share your problems with everybody and they never once told me it was a group therapy I told them that was never mentioned I was not Acacian with my problems with strangers only to find out that they emptied out my bank account when the girl assured me that it was only a requirement just in case they need to have something on file so this is a full on scam this is fraud and I couldn't even buy my kids lunch for school because they refused to refund me the money you're not helping nobody this is all a scam and I hope people avoid this because I went through a horrible experience zero stars is what they deserve you go in already feeling bad and they take advantage I have video of me recording and they didn't even return my calls when they were calling me a lier and I said well it's as easy as just sitting down and looking at the security cámaras they completely ghosted me read more
