Bodega 8 - Beef shank tacos. Note the presentation of onions and cilantro on top of a big bone - that also had some marrow in it. Stellar

Restaurant is very nice and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The first piece given was very fatty and barely had any meat to eat. The restaurant did offer to provide a different piece or entree item. The tuna was so tasty. The dessert of the chocolate cake was dry. Other than that, everything was exceptional and pretty much a nice dining experience.

Cannot give 5 stars. I will settle for 4…read more I ordered a block of beef, medium rare. And that was awesome. Great flavor on every bite, and ideal texture. Would have been nicer if there were some kind of sauce to go with it I thought. Butter, demiglase, chimichurri, something. The arugula salad that came with was too salty and too sour but the tomatoes in the salad was delightful. Is that grilled or put in oven for short time? Light warmness of those tomatoes really brought out the sweetness of the tomatoes itself, I enjoyed that very much. The salsa and beans that came at the beginning of the meal was actually really good. Wife ordered a hamburger, and wow. The meat was so so sooo salty. That's gotta be extra salted by mistake. There is no way that was prepared correctly. Tortilla soup was quite plain. I kinda wished there to have more depth in flavor. We ordered the signature tacos for my kid. I didn't try them but my kid liked it. Price was about $100 for 3 of us. And I feel that's a bit much for this quality of experience on this side of the border. 4 stars, I think is the reasonable decision on my part. Oh, but thank you for having English menu for foreigner like me.

This is my favorite restaurant in Mexicali. The elegant setting, with a huge cave painting…read morerepresenting the indigenous people of Baja California, is very impressive. The kitchen is clean and visible to anyone interested. What a bar! Drink up! The tables were set perfectly, with white linen. But the menú was one of the best I've seen, locally sourced ingredients were emphasized. Everything we ordered was delicious, I had the orange duck with coco rice, and would order it again. My wife ordered filete mignon served on a puree of califlour with sauteed veggies and loved it. The wine selection was extensive and most were carefully selected from the Guadalupe Valley. Cost for 4 people with d'oeuvres, 2 salads, 2 bottles of wine, 4 entrées, desert, and tip was $200.

Dinner started out promising, their egregiously rude customer service soured the evening…read more This was our first time dining at this establishment. Dinner started off on the right foot. We thoroughly enjoyed the appetizers and the wait service started off okay. Our entreés came out and they weren't as satisfactory. The ribeye was good, but we asked for it to be cooked medium and it was rare. The duck confit was overcooked. It should have been medium rare, it was more than well done and very dry. The grilled octopus was cooked properly but the sauce was bitter. We decided we could live with the steak and duck, but the octopus tasted bad. So we returned the plate letting the wait staff know that the sauce was too bitter for our liking. This is where the night took a turn. After disappearing for a very long time, our waiter returned to tell us that she was frustrated. Frustrated because she couldn't understand why we didn't like the octopus plate, especially since the chef tasted the plate and said it was cooked/plated properly. All three of us tasted the octopus and didn't like it. For the record, we love octopus and have had it many ways across North America. At this point we told the waiter that although the chef thought it was good, it simply was not to our liking. Shortly after this interaction Rosalinda, head of wait staff, came to our table. She said "I know that the octopus was not to your liking, but would you like us to pack it up for you to take home?" We asked why we would want to take home a plate we didn't like. We asked if she had tasted the plate and liked it and Rosalinda said, "Yes. I tasted it. But I don't like seafood." It became clear that they wanted to charge us for the plate of food we sent back and that they wanted to be clear that they thought nothing of our opinion of the food's taste, because the chef thought it was good. After some back and forth, they finally agreed to take the plate off of the bill. Before we sent the plate back, taking into account that all the dishes were off, I said "I'm not going to write a review, because anyone can have an off night. Maybe we'll try again." But after being treated so poorly and feeling insulted, I decided that I needed to warn people about their terrible customer service. Will never return or recommend.
