Stopped by on the drive out to a hunting trip. Good people and even better BBQ. I'm a big fan of their bbq sauce.

We decided to try this place on our way to Houston for our son's trip. I never leave reviews but when we were looking up restaurants nearby we saw this one had 3.5 & after our experience we decided to make sure to leave a review for this small family owned business. We almost let a 3.5 star stop us from finding this & I'm so glad we decided to still give it a shot. Service: The first thing we noticed was how kind they were. We were greeted immediately as soon as we walked in. My son was a little fussy because he was hungry (which is why we stopped at the first place we found), and one of the kind ladies came over, handed him a small toy car, and told him he could keep it. We already had plenty of toys in the car, so we left it behind, but it calmed him down long enough for us to order. I asked if it was okay to bring our Shepsky inside since she was traveling with us, and they kindly let us know they were dog-friendly. We were really grateful not to have to leave her outside with it being right on a busy highway. They even let us try the sauce and offered free samples of the food before ordering, but we declined because everything already looked great. They also brought out a bowl of water for our dog, which we really appreciated. Food: The food was AMAZING. I had been craving BBQ for so long. We had actually passed the restaurant at first since it's a little easy to miss, but we turned around when we noticed the benches outside where we could sit with our dog. We ordered a brisket sandwich (and they gave us two since the buns in their shipment were smaller), brisket nachos for my husband, a pound of sausage, two bags of chips, and a few drinks. The brisket was so tender--my son and I ate it so fast. The creamed corn had so much flavor, and the potato salad was great too. We ate about half the sausage because it was so good and took the rest with us for the drive. My son usually won't eat potato salad, but he was eating this one willingly. Seating: It's outdoor only but they are currently working on getting indoor seating. However that wasn't an issue for us considering we had our dog. Overall, it was such an amazing experience. As soon as we got back in the car, we couldn't stop talking about how glad we were that we turned around instead of driving past. I hope we can stop by again on our way back. read more

Please read and believe the negative reviews. Food was immediately thrown in the trash. Brisket was full of fat and had no flavor. The bark was purposely cut off my brisket. NATIVE TEXAN and I have to say this is the BEST BBQ I've ever had!!!! Family owned, small place, old school smokehouse feel. Had the sausage sandwich, potato salad and tried the brisket. The brisket was juicy, amazingly tender, cooked to perfection!!! And let's not forget the BANANA Pudding!! This hidden gem is worth the stop and worth the wait. When you walked in the place smells like good wood smoke, They we're kind and greeted us, but their service was not all that, we were the only ones there, but there was a conversation going on and it seemed everyone was in it. We got there it was lunchtime It was about 11:45 am No chicken, no sausages. We had to get the ribs and they were dry and burnt, the brisket was not good, but it had enough smoke in it, just dry and some parts when you bit down on it you got a mouth full of grease. I ordered a pound a brisket to go, and a brisket frito pie. They cut the bark off my brisket and saved it for themselves I guess, which I didn't appreciate. The brisket was very dry. The frito pie was good, but would have been a lot better if the brisket wasn't dry and overcooked. Hopefully they make some improvements and I'll try again next year. read more

I saw the reviews on this place which is why I went there to begin with. I had three in my party that day. We ate there around September 17, 2023. One person had a sausage and brisket sandwich, another had a one meat plate and another had a two meat plate. I thought the ribs were mediocre at best. They served us the brisket that is just loaded with heavy marbled fat. I wouldn't even make chop beef with that brisket. In fact there was a stray dog, or I hope it was a stray dog that was hanging around there that we fed most of that brisket to. I didn't find anything authentic about the sides there. We got the banana pudding and wished we hadn't I thought the food there cost just as much as any other barbecue place which seemed high to me to begin with. You can get way better food for the money you pay to eat here. I'm hoping that was an off day and that they produce better food than what we were served. I kind of felt like that's what was left and they didn't want to throw it out. We waited way too long to eat and we're so hungry we just ate the food and left. One our way to the Valley from Houston we decided to stop and give this place a try. We had the "BBQ Roundup". Which came with Brisket and Sausage for Protein and had the potato salad, pinto beans, and dirty rice instead of the Cold slaw as sides. They give you the bbq sauce on the side. The brisket was awesome. Had to just add a little of the yummy bbq sauce. The sausage was good but not the best. But over all good stop to get your Texas BBQ on. And no the blond is not mean. Excellent Texas BBQ on the side of 77. Brisket was better than 90% of the places we have around Houston. Small family owned joint with nice folks. First time stopping here and I'd highly recommend a stop if you're around Victoria or just passing thru. Outdoor seating only but the food and hospitality make it worth the stop. Great place with PERFECT food! There was no one there when we first drove by nor when we stopped there, but the open sign was on so we stepped right on in. We were super surprised at how FRESH it all was! For it seeming to be dead, the food was amazing. The brisket was super soft and had amazing flavor, the sausage was exactly how sausage should be, the beans were on a whole different level of greatness! The potato salad was just right on everything. The bbq sauce it came with had the most delicious taste to it, good little strength in it! This place is definitely not easy to get to but is worth it. I had the best brisket and definitely preferred the fattier kind to the lean as the fat texture was buttery and not chevy. We also bought a slice of pecan pie which was good not extremely sweet. We also had homemade chocolate chip cookies. We decided not to sit in the patio due to the noise of the highway so we sat in the car which was peaceful. We got the 2 meat plate which was sufficient for 2 people at a reasonable price. Aunt Jo's is a cool spot on Hwy 77. It is a fantastic looking piece of property with a giant pig greeting all passers by. Warning - Only open Thursday - Sunday 11 AM - 7 PM, or until they run out of food. The food is good homemade BBQ. The menu is limited, but then again, so are the hours. Basically you can get: Brisket, Pork Spare Ribs, Smoked Sausage, Chicken. Their sides are Slaw, Pinto Beans or Potato Salad. And your plate will come with two slices of bread, onions, pickle and a jalapeno if you like. They also do sandwiches (chopped, sliced and sausage). They also have assorted homemade pies. So, how was the food and why only a 3 Star, A-OK rating? Let me start by saying, the setting is fantastic. Lots of great covered outdoor seating and the area is clean and very well maintained. The place itself is fantastic looking as well. It is very old school ranch house that has aged well. The service is great and friendly. The menu is just what I wanted to see. Nothing over the top, just BBQ. So the food, come on man, get on with it. It was good. So... if I look at Snows BBQ and set that as my 5 star benchmark, use anything in Lockhart as the 4 star (which is what I am doing by the way), then this is a 3 star place. This does not mean anything bad. This means it is good solid BBQ. If you are in the area or do not want to go to Fannin or Mutts, then make the trip. You will be glad you did. And before anyone jumps my case for the 3 Star rating, I have been to ALL of the places mentioned above and they are ALL better which means this is NOT as good as it gets. BBQ sauce is good though Husband got the chicken- excellent, moist MIL got the chop sandwich- looked good Outdoor seating was painful in July. Drove from San Antonio to try this BBQ. The sides I got were potato salad and pinto beans which were bland. The brisket, sausage and ribs did not taste fresh and were bland as well and dry. To be honest Bill Millers BBQ has better tasting and quality food. This is a place to get a quick fix of BBQ but not worth the hype. read more

That big pig statue in front of Aunt Jo's finally wore me down and I stopped here to see what it's all about. At first we thought it was closed and almost left, but there was no sign indicating that they weren't opened so went up to the front door. I'm glad it's off of a busy highway because the surrounding area is the perfect setting for a little TX Chainsaw action. The place is pretty simple. Real rustic barn looking type building, but once you get inside there's someone to take your order. She didn't have the best attitude. In fact, I felt like maybe I was disturbing her. Almost felt like leaving because of the unwelcome vibe that was being given off. If my travel partner wasn't using the restroom then I would have said never mind and walked out. Once I ordered, I saw a big dead roach on the floor by the the drink cooler. That's okay, it's a tree roach they are all over TX. Put that to the back of my mind. The lady continued to get my order ready while I tried to make small talk. Maybe I should have just left her alone, but I'd like to at least be nice so she doesn't put any roach in my sandwich!! Got my sliced brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad. Went outside to eat it and it was actually really good. I could almost forgive this place if it was closer to where I live and the service wasn't so unfriendly. It's a real shame. The other shame is the fact that the plumbing doesn't work in the restrooms. On the way out I stopped to use it before continuing our trip and immediately felt I shouldn't have been nice buying something for use of restroom. Toilet was complete broken and although I was using it for the lesser of the two, I still had to stare at what was left by someone else. The best place to eat BBQ if you're in Victoria. The meat is just what you want it to be... MEATY. And the chicken practically falls off the bone. Love coming here during huntin season (that's mainly when I come to Victoria). Their dirty rice is amazing with a kick of spice and my sister loves the potato salad. They didn't have ribs today because they sold out early, but the brisket is what I wanted anyway. This is a popular place so try to get there around lunch time to get what you want. Disappointing to say the least we arrive at 11am on a Sunday which should mean fresh meat and the brisket is dry and lacks any smoke flavor. The ribs are decent In size but again dry and flavorless. The pinto beans were flavorless and the coleslaw was neither a vinegar or creamy it was just chopped up.
