I adored this thrift store! I may be a bit old fashioned, but I appreciate when what you thrift is under $15. All of the clothes I found here were under $15. It's a compact store with a small collection, but you're able to look through each item and find something you like. I had a great time looking through everything. There is one little fitting room where you can try what you like on. In addition to clothes, they had jewelry too. I bought a cute skirt for $10 and a green doily for $7. The person who worked here was sweet. I adored the music they played at the store, it really added to my shopping experience. I'd highly recommend going thrifting at AuH20. read more

I'm sad to be writing this review as they will be closing up by the end of this month after 14 years of business, but I wanted to talk about the impact that AuH2O had on me in being more aware of slow fashion. AuH2O was the first secondhand shop that I ever visited and it was my gateway to thrifting. I remember being a high schooler and just hopping on the train one day to go to this store not sure of what to expect (I am now a grown adult working that typical 9-5 job). The store is small and intimate but very cozy-feeling with the friendly staff. As with thrifting anywhere, some days can be a hit or a miss. The first day I came here, I spent over $100, but more often than not, I come out with nothing which is perfectly normal. Again, they have a small space so they need to try to get inventory out before they can put more in. They curate a bit of everything including fast fashion brands, but I have been able to snag knits here that were definitely prior to the 2000s which I am still rocking today. They also have an Instagram page you can buy from and pick up in the store. On Thursdays, if you are a student, be sure to flash your ID to get a small discount (I believe 10-15% off). After this month, they will be going all virtual via Instagram and Etsy, but be sure to stop by and support them beforehand if you have time! read more

Such a great experience with this small business! I called to make sure they accept drop offs and got Sarah on the phone. She was lovely answered all of my questions and told me to stop by. I dropped off all of my things and filled out paperwork. The next day received a text of everything they would keep and asking if I would like to pick up or donate the 5 pieces they aren't keeping. The next day (literally within 48 hours) I received a text from Kate the owner with an itemized list of what they were selling my pieces for and a grand total. My portion of 1/3 was then sent to my Venmo account. After going to Buffalo exchange prior and being treated like shit it was such a breath of fresh air to deal with lovely professional people. AuH20's jewelry is perfect for that, and for like $5-$10 apiece a lot of the time. See? Ridiculous! But their upcycled vintage is also killer. AuH2O is my favorite store, period. I love this shop. The size and selection is just right. The inventory changes up every other day or so. A lot. It's pretty incredible. The associates are fantastic. Shout out specifically to Alli, who gave me such patient, individual attention and changed my game with her brilliant styling eye! Across the street, Tokyo7 runs about $150/item on average. And they ignore you. AuH2O...about $15 per piece on average. Less. I'm serious. I still can't believe it. This store is a dream come true. I have lost a lot of weight over the past year and a half. I never really considered shopping at clothing boutiques in my own neighborhood because, well, I didn't need the depression/aggravation. I went into AuH2O on a whim. So grateful I did. Shopping at AuH2O (and fitting into nearly everything I tried on in their awesome selection of carefully curated finds!) was a wonderful way to celebrate my health journey. I can't believe what I bought for a total of $100. Three dresses (including a STUNNING flapper dress), multiple shirts, sweaters... a faux fur stole! I'm afraid (sorry not sorry) that AuH20 is going to become an addiction. I went to a party last weekend thrown by friends who are in the fashion world. When I walked in wearing the gold sparkly beaded shrug I purchased at AuH2O for $12 (with jeans as per Alli's suggestion) they just stopped, stared and went on and on about how amazing I looked. One of my friend's boyfriends took me aside, put his hands on my shiny shoulders, and said, "You've finally arrived. This is YOU. Look at you, Brette. WOW." I came by this store after dinner in the area, as it was almost closing, and was very disappointed in the selection. There are about five racks of merchandise, but a majority of them are cheap mall brands like Zara, Mango, and Forever 21. Additionally, I saw a lot of wear on the items, like pilling and such. I was walking by and got sucked in by their sales rack outside. The store has a great selection of clothes, especially considering the small space. And the prices are affordable, like a thrift store's prices should be, I was very surprised. I got a nice button down faux suede/knit sweater for just $8, and an ugly Hanukkah sweater for $10. Yes, you read that right, a freakin Hanukkah sweater. It's gold, blue, and red and has "mazel tov!" in big letters along the top, with dreidels and stars of David. I mean, this thing is glorious. They also have, hands down, the best ugly Christmas sweater selection I have seen anywhere. $15 credit card minimum. Women;s clothes only, not much in the plus size department. After wandering around from each vintage shop to shop, I think I've finally found my go-to vintage shop. Let me tell you, the journey had a few bumps. Some of the shops had either too ancient items that goes back to the 1940s, overpriced used items, or grandma clothing. But AuH2O is different. You can find good, I mean GOOD brand name items still with tags on them on the $5 rack or $10 rack or on the racks, what a steal! The $1 jewelry/accessories pan is always delightful to go through. The moment you walk in, you'll receive a warm welcome by none other than Kate. The shop is tiny but great as well, which is something you rarely find in most vintage stores that smell like dead rats or something old. The $5 and $10 rack is always there, which is always tempting for me to walk out with something. I recently got my mother a brand new Tocca blazer for only $5! This store is not my style, but if you want vintage it is a great place for you. The prices are amazing. I didn't see anything over 30. There was a five dollar rack and a ten dollar rack. Considering there were only 4 racks, not bad. Most of the comments are dead on. The store is tiny, but it doesn't take long to search the whole store. I only spent about 15 minutes in AuH20 but was able to see everything. About 5 "Regulars" came into the store and chatted with the owner. Amidst all of the expensive boutiques in the city, lies this East Village treasure. We had a lot of good luck thrift shopping in the village, so I decided to search for more stores to peruse. AuH2O is located on a very quaint street in between very beautiful displays of street art. It is across the street from another amazing thrift shop called Tokio7. The store itself had a form of identity that stood out amongst the stores nearby. It was very intimate, boasting only a few racks and an accessory display. The gold paint, vintage furniture, and exposed brick walls really gave the place a boho feel. Unlike most thrift stores, AuH2O was extremely neat. I loved how there were only a few racks to look through. It was the least overwhelming thrift store experience I have ever had. Another great attribute to this store were the prices. There is a $5 rack in the middle and a less than $10 rack towards the back. Throughout the normal racks, I could not find anything over $15. The best part was that these prices did not reflect the quality of the items that were on sale. You could find Kate Spade jeans for $15, J brand for $12, and illesteva sunglasses for $15! The selection was to die for! They also had many earrings for only $3 a pair. I was definitely in heaven. I ended up purchasing a beautiful black and white patterned blazer for only $12. Prices were very reasonable! Just curious...Do thrift shops wash and clean the clothes prior to putting them on shelves for sale? Place was super tight, too many people with carry-ons (backpack, umbrellas, shopping bags, winter coats), place smelled like feet, no ventilation in the shop, it can get hot and bothersome - especially if you have items in your hands and you are digging to look for more items. Store owner should consider offering their customers a place at the counter or a basket where they can place their selected items in. This way customers' shopping experience will be easier. One small fitting room available. I bought one blazer from here and cute earrings, this place didn't have too many items in my size at this time. They have some great unique jewelry pieces. My friend Lisnel bought a cute skirt from this place and enjoyed her experience here. I am giving it a 3 star only because I couldn't shop w ease, it got too hot in there for me, I had to step outside for some air. I've actually never bought anything here (sadly), so why am I giving 5 stars? I'll give you 5 good reasons! *shakes fist* 5. The selection is small and manageable: no digging, no frustration. You can clearly see everything that is for sale. 4. The prices! Used clothing is well, used. It should be priced accordingly, and in this shop, it definitely is. I've been in countless resale/vintage/consignment shops that were asking $$$ for stained/tattered/or just plain hideous garb. Which brings me to my next point: 3. Everything was in fantastic condition. I didn't see a hole, stain, scuff, or pill on anything. 2. The environment of the store is so warm and inviting, not pretentious or anything along the lines of "You're-too-fat/ugly/poor/unstylish-for-our-store" vibe. Good tunes playing and a friendly shopkeeper (owner?) making jewelry in the corner. 1. THE SMELL. The clothes are sanitized before being put out to be sold and the shop doesn't have that... smell. You know the one: the melange of the aromas of mothballs, B.O., granny perfume, urine, unwashed hair, dust, and smoke that most vintage/used/consignment shops have. I give major points for this, seriously. Seriously. Since the selection is so limited, I would recommend visiting often. First of all, the name, come on. Cute. One of the owner's last name is Goldwater. I had a little moment after looking at their business card. I thought it was great. Anyways, onto the store.. I'm from Boston, so I haven't been exposed to the best vintage and thrift stores. My heart yearned for more. There has to be a place where there's a great selection and most importantly---great prices. Being a frugal student in the city and being interested in fashion is a huge predicament. I have seen countless stores overpricing vintage items that I almost gave up completely. Thank goodness for AuH2O. Boy, did they prove me wrong. It's a very small store, but there are many things to look at. The best thing about the clothing is that it is carefully selected. The owners definitely have great taste and take extra care of what goes on their racks. Going through all the racks is a breeze, and the small size adds to its charm. Going to AuH2O is the biggest sigh of relief from overwhelming amounts of merchandise in chains like Forever 21 and H&M. Plus, every item is one of a kind. The first time visiting, I picked up a deep red blouse with the cutest collar, a red patterned midi skirt, and a wicked pair of silk shorts that looked like a skirt. Oh my goodness, if I could only describe how fantastic those shorts were. It's like a Van Gogh painting, in shorts form. And it was $5. I probably would have paid 3x that amount for them. Because they were that awesome. In total, I spent $25, with the 15% off Thursday Student Discount. A skirt, shorts, AND a blouse for less than $30? I die. The second time I came, I didn't find anything. It happens. But I just went again yesterday and found the cutest little black dress. It was a cross between lingerie and evening wear with lace and a zipper down the middle. With the quality fabric, it could have easily been $100 or more. I paid $27 for it. I guess it's a bit much in terms of thrifting, but I knew that if I didn't buy it, I would regret it. One of the owners even let me put it on hold until the next day because I forgot my wallet. Seriously, I think I'm going to shop here more than those chain stores. Plus, I won't see another girl down in Washington Square Park wearing the same thing as me. I am new to thrifting and AuH2O was a great place to get my feet wet in the world of thrift shopping. The store is laid out like a boutique which gives the place a warm and inviting atmosphere. Everything was in good to very good condition, clean and organized. They sell pretty much everything from dresses, tops, bottoms, shoes, purses, jewelry, and other accessories like scarves. Most pieces are between $10 and $20 and quite a few were under $10. Being a bargain hunter I've definitely bought cheaper, brand new items but there are some very unique finds here that you will not find at Forever21. The brands are mostly random and non designer but I did see a Theory cropped jacket for less than $20. The jewelry is somewhat expensive for what it is but their birdcage necklace display is awesome! I had a lovely chat with Alexandra who was very friendly and authentic. I had no problems redeeming my Yelp Deal coupon and she even gave me the 15% student discount (every Thursday!). Alexandra told me that she and her partner go to warehouses and hand pick all the clothing pieces for the store thus the low prices. I would definitely revisit as they have new pieces every week. This is definitely my new found love in NY!! I'm not really a thrift shopper at all, but my sister is and she came to visit wanting to visit as many as these shops as she possibly could in her short visit. I bookmarked a bunch of vintage shops on yelp and used them as a guide for where to go. This was our first choice. We walked in and the woman cashier (I don't know her name, unfortunately) was the coolest, nicest, funniest gal ever! She was incredibly helpful and she definitely made us feel super comfortable here. She was joking around with us the whole time and told us what clothes were worth it and what wasn't. This shop is TINY but has a great selection. I found an amazing beige wool coat for $28!!! What an effing steal!!! Even though I need to get the sleeves tailored because they are too long, I just had to buy it! I mean, $28, who can beat that! It looks like a brand new expensive coat! Woohoo!! I also bought a brown clutch purse for $8....more woohoo!!! My sister bought a ring, necklace, and a sweater, total? $21....yup!! I think this place definitely made me a new thrift shopper and I'm officially in love with this place as it has made me convert! Side note: the place across the street is also great....BUTTTTTT.....it's incredibly expensive!! I mean, the stuff they had is incredible (burberry coats, marc jacobs bags, gucci clothing) but at the prices they have, you can just go to Bloomingdales and get them at the same price, new! I will freely admit to it...I'm cheap. For me, walking into AuH2O is like walking into a mythical land I've only heard whispers of in my dreams. Unassuming from the outside, inside is an incredible array of deals. Now, that's not to say that everything in the store is gorgeous and in top quality condition. But if you dig, you can find something special and I don't think I really saw anything in here over $30 so that's always a plus. Some of the clothes do look a little worn...so as with any thrift shop you should check for stains, tears, repairs, and just give it a real lookover to see if it'll crumble into dust once you walk out the door. I managed to score a lovely Anne Klein floorlength dress for $14. Are you kidding me? The clothing mostly features blouses and shirts with some skirts, pants and jeans. There are a handful of dresses but if you're looking for a Cinderella gown for a special night this is not the right place. There are hangbags in the corner but they're a little too scuffed and worn for my taste. There is also jewelry scattered in the corners from $1 to under $20. The jewelry is a little underwhelming, a mix of metal that looks like it's from Forever21 and bulk street vendors. The dressing room is in the back corner and is the size of an outhouse/refrigerator/very small closet. Essentially, you've got room to stand and turn in a circle. AHHH! I dont even know where to start...Amazing items and amazing prices. Its not SUPER SUPER cheap, but you leave feeling like you got your moneys worth. The owner was great! I just love that she isn't trying to take advantage of her customers. I only left with 2 sweaters and a purse all for around 25 dollars. The store is extremely small, and the inventory even smaller. I found a pair of Ralph Lauren brown leather riding boots in my size for $25. I was jumping for joy, until I pulled the boots down from the shelf. I cannot believe they were being sold in the current condition. The interior heel of each boot was completely destroyed. The leather along the zipper was frayed and torn. Such a shame. Overall, I was underwhelmed with this store, given the rave reviews by other yelp users. read more
