The inventory is amazing and quite diverse but the owner/associate is hostile and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. 1) As of 12/19/21, there is no mirror in the fitting room, which forces you to try on clothes that may or may not fit well in front of complete strangers. I made an offhanded comment to my friend about this, and the owner/associate chimed in that the wall wasn't smooth, so a mirror couldn't be mounted. And by chimed in, I mean, in a confrontational tone, saying "you might notice the wall isn't smooth, so...etc. etc." I sincerely doubt some semblance of mirror can't be hung on a wall with edges and grooves. Not to mention, I wasn't even talking to her. 2) At one point, my friend forgot to take her hanger out of the fitting room, and the owner/associate made a comment about how if you don't bring out all the hangers, it makes her think something was stolen. The best part of this is that my friend put her backpack outside of the fitting room initially to make it clear she wasn't stealing. However, the backpack was blocking the back door so she asked my friend to move it (that made sense, but why over-explain/bring up theft at all). Her manner of explaining and her tone made the whole thing so aggressive and awkward. Something similar happened when I took my mask off to change and went outside the fitting room to look in the mirror. She told me to put it on and went into this long soapbox speech about how she's here all day, etc. etc. I simply forgot to put it back on as I moved from the fitting room to the mirror - telling me to wear it would've sufficed without the histrionics. I am just as concerned about the virus as she is. 3) I feel like the owner/associate was looking over my shoulder the entire time. I don't think it was a race thing, as my friend is lily white, but who knows. I just wanted some 80's clothes, since I go to 80's cover concerts every month, and I got this lovely experience instead. Perhaps she is used to dealing with rude Hollywood types, as the website says they sometimes provide clothing for shows. Her energy certainly matches those types. I am now looking at other reviews from POCs and it seems this is a common theme for this business. AVOID. Go to Hamlet's Village instead. read more

Love love love this store! I had read about them when they were just a pop-up, then happened to walk by one day while slightly inebriated only to find out this is now their permanent home. I also spent way more money on a green 90's prom dress than I should have, but no regrets. I recently came back in touch with a ton of my old toys. Not knowing what to do with them and not wanting to deal with the hassle of selling each one on Ebay, I reached out to Spark Pretty and they had me email them photos of my toys. They ended up taking some board games and I made $50! The stuff was in great condition and they mainly use the toys as displays, so don't think of it as a 90's thrift store, their selective and it's a small space that focuses mostly on clothing and accessories. I turned right around and spent that $50 on a pair of earrings that say "CUNT" in mirrored letters. They are PRICELESS. The ladies who own and operate the shop clearly love what they're doing and are so much fun to talk to while you're shopping. Once you open the door & walk into this fun,funky store, you'll feel what the 80's/90's were about. Filled with so many amazing items from that time, you could spend hours shopping. I love going there, the staff is lovely, fun & very helpful. I'm always recommending this store & the people that have gone just rave about it! Take the time to experience this very special place on 9th Street in the East Village. I would also like to add, that I have always felt safe during Covid whenever I've been there.They have hand sanitizer available, as you walk in & everyone has to wear a mask or they cannot shop there. I appreciate their diligence in keeping us safe & taking seriously what needed to be done in order to get the numbers down so we could start living our lives again! This might be my favorite store in nyc so far! I never leave reviews but had to, bc I've seen some reviews mentioning the workers being rude to people, especially poc. That was not my experience at all. Maybe there was a misunderstanding, but I am black and my s/o is Korean and they were extremely friendly, helpful, and chill. I love this verrrrrry fun shop ! The gals running it are always friendly, helpful, lots of good energy. I've shopped there for a couple of years, and bought a few tops, skirts, and dresses that I could never find elsewhere. While they do usually have a sales rack, I do not think of it as a thrift shop at all. And, to my mind, vintage is not 90s, but rather 50s/60s, but that just shows how old I am ! The below review by Laura S. is such an unnecessarily ad hominem attack on one of my very favorite shops in the city. To be fair, I've only dealt directly with the shop's owner, Amanda, and she could not be more lovely, energetic, and fun; a genuine burst of glitter in human form. Thus far, I've purchased two Tony Alamos and some tees from the store. Amanda has never pressured me to purchase anything. In fact, I've been distinctly impressed that she's given me honest feedback about potentially buying a few things that just didn't work on me. I haven't met the dog that Laura so miserably espoused hatred towards... but sounds like something a "can I speak to your manager" type with epilepsy(?) would complain about as she frowns her way through a day of window shopping. Went in here on a humbug because I was looking for a thrift store, preferably vintage. Got here, store is super cute and small, but filled with lots of authentic vintage goodies. I was the only person in the store at the time, the saleswoman was helpful. She did, however, ask more than once every time I had something in my hand if she could hold it for me (I think she didn't want a black girl standing in the store with them :/) but anyway, got two new items to add to my closet. STAY AWAY, the most irking part of my trip to NY. While this store is incredibly visually fun and full of really neat clothes and nicknacks, spare yourself the grief of walking into a complete mousetrap of hungry sales people. I could've gone to a car retailer had I wanted to hear the cheap and fake sales pitches. It's crystal clear that they just want to sell, whether it suits you or not, they do not care and probably work on thirsty commission. Some of the items are also outrageously expensive, and while some i was told are collectors items, others are just lackluster items you could find at a local thrift shop. If you do choose to go, make sure to bring ear plugs or Advil to save yourself the headache of an yappy store pet, which not only is incredibly annoying, but also a catalyst for allergies to those who may be allergic to animals, such as myself and my daughter. In addition, if you or anyone who is planning on visiting this scam house suffers from epilepsy, I'd suggest against it, as the entire store is plastered in overlapping posters and blinking lights. read more
