When I used the Yelp Request-A-Quote function to reach out to a few electricians, Steven and his wife were incredibly responsive, and his quote was the most reasonable. We got him in the house right away, and we are so grateful he committed to a multi-week job. I asked him, "Do you have a lot of experience working on old 100+ year old homes?" and he reassured me that he's from England and has "worked on 400 year old homes"! We gave him direction and provided light fixtures and specific switches (LED dimmers) that we wanted, and then he went to town. We figured a ton of issues would come up with the old plaster, the old wiring, the logistics of the old home... but nope, he seemed to work around everything seamlessly. He only had to make a couple holes in the plaster, and he referred someone who patched them up real quick n nice. Steven made some suggestions throughout the process too, like better places to move the switches and outlets (no extra charge), which we were grateful for. He also updated our entire breaker panel which somehow had water damage and was barely to code, phew! The entire time, he was very communicative between calls and texts. We've been doing some other work on the house and it seems we run into snags with every simple little update. But I'm so thrilled that the biggest job of rewiring the whole dang house was such a cinch. I can't recommend Steven and Atlantic Electric enough!

Comments: Kevin Ahlers was recommended to me by a close friend who is an engineer and knows electrical work very well. My friend actually said that Kevin does some of the best work he has ever seen. I was very happy to get this referral as I needed some electrical updating and correction for my older home. My first contact with Kevin was over the phone. He was attentive and gave me a quick assessment based on what he has seen in similar aged homes in my area. When Kevin came out to the house, he had a keen eye for what to look for and what truly needed to be changed or fixed. He had a good understanding of electrical codes, staying compliant with the laws/ordinances, and he helped me to better understand the home inspection report on the electrical issues for this house. In fact, he found things around the house that required removal or alteration, that were not even mentioned by the private home inspector that I hired. Kevin was thorough in his assessment of the electrical issues. He helped me to identify what actually NEEDED to be done to my house verses what was only a recommendation. Yesterday was the day the work on my house was done. Both Kevin and his father worked very well together as a team of electricians. They moved quickly, worked hard, and were decisive & knowledgeable about how to handle each situation. I really appreciate that Kevin is the kind of guy who is no-nonsense, practical, honest, and direct with his communication and approach to handling an issue. We even had the opportunity to problem solve together when one of my fixtures didn't fit the space (because I bought the wrong one!). Kevin is good at thinking through various options, brainstorming, and problem solving. He would share his personal opinions when asked, and I was usually inclined to go along with them because they either sounded reasonable or were good ideas. Kevin Ahlers runs his business with integrity and I would refer him to anyone I know who needs electrical work done on their home or business. In fact, I have already passed his name onto a neighbor who asked for a referral to an electrician! :)

It's a small team of very professional and friendly people who know what they're doing and do it quickly and efficiently. I still contact other companies for estimates to compare, as I always do when contracting work on my home, but American comes in well under every time. This past week they were out here running an extremely long conduit to wire a hot tub, and while at it they wired our new sauna as well. We even had an issue where we needed to get the tub's breakers from our old house to install here, and John sent another electrician over to do that immediately. I'd had another well-rated company come out for an estimate and they quoted $6,500 just for the hot tub. American did that plus the sauna plus getting those parts from across town for less than half that and got it done in half a day.

I just relocated to the Minneapolis area in May, 2021. Not until we got some significant rain in August did I realize there were some issues with the electrical in/leading to the garage. After rain, or heavy watering on the lawn, the power to the garage would cut out - the breaker tripped and we'd have to reset it. Eventually the fuse blew and I knew we needed some pro help. I spoke with several other electricians, and John was the only one who happily provided a rough estimate on timing/cost prior to coming out - with the huge caveat that he'd need to investigate to give us a real estimate. Regardless, he immediately put my mind at ease that this wouldn't be the budget-ending project I initially feared. He also was not at all in the sales mindset, and encouraged me to get second opinions, estimates, etc. since he didn't want to push me in any one direction. He books out several weeks - John is in high demand! - but had a cancellation and snuck us in on a Friday morning. John was in and out of the house in less than a few hours, he fixed the problem AND found a few small changes we could make to future-proof our wiring. And best of all, he did all of this for thousands less than I had been quoted by other companies. I will hands-down recommend John to anyone who needs an electrician in the area!
