I was in the process of remodelling the lower level of my home and wanted to install a medium-to-high end home theater system in the family room that is approximately 20' x 20'. In completing the work Audio High installed for me a built in audio rack with an Anthem MRX 720 receiver, 7 in-wall KEF speakers, a JL Audio Fathom f113v2 subwoofer, a Sim2 HD projector, a 135" in-ceiling Stewart screen, and an RTI control system. The installation and setup of my home theater project led by Audio High went amazingly well. The Audio High guys were all very knowledgeable and, after I provided them with a budget, they made excellent recommendations for components and speakers that fit within it. They also did an excellent job of demoing speakers and components for me that were slightly outside of my initial budget which did get me to splurge a bit, but in the end I'm glad I did because the system with the higher end speakers and components they recommended sounds and looks amazing. Regarding the quality of the work, I waited 6+ months to write this review because I wanted to ensure that I'd used every facet of the theater before doing so and it is now clear to me that the quality of the work is outstanding. For example, the voluminous in-wall wiring that had to be installed was installed meticulously, with every wire run, tied and labeled with precision, and the custom programming of the RTI control system was done thoughtfully and with care to cover my every use case. And, most importantly, the system has worked exactly as designed at the outset of the project. Regarding responsiveness and professionalism, the Audio High team is incredibly responsive and professional. In six months+ of use I've had one minor issue when the RTI control system lost contact with the Anthem receiver, and after sending an email to the Audio High team asking how to fix it, I received two separate responses within one hour with suggested steps to take to resolve the issue. When my first attempt didn't work the Audio High guys offered to come to my home within 48 hours to fix it, however, they subsequently asked a few more questions of me and were able to correctly diagnose the problem and help me fix it over email without an onsite visit and at no charge. Outstanding and responsive service. Regarding price, I did receive one other proposal from another home theater installer in Silicon Valley for the same project and it came in at approximately the same price (it was difficult to precisely compare the two proposals because not all the recommended speakers and components were identical). However, I am very happy with the expert product recommendations and advice that I received from Audio High and with the quality and thoughtfulness of their installation, so from a value-for-money-spent perspective I feel the price was very fair. All in all I would absolutely use Audio High again and in fact will do so in a year or two when I'm ready to upgrade my projector and install additional in-ceiling speakers for Atmos. read more

Quick and easy transaction they told me what the price would be and that's what it was. Completely what I expected. They were able to assemble all the components at once. No waiting for pieces to arrive. I picked up the system on a Wednesday or something closer to home and connect it on Thursday. Everything worked. And away we go. All boxes are sealed by factory. Best of all I want system that everybody could enjoy in this particular configuration it's all digital and using direct connect from say TIDAL you bypass all of the extra things that Apple might need to play in the system and I have to say that is bad Apple scary great system but the title direct connect in MGA sounds really good. I am very happy with my selection and I am confident that are you high would have let me know if it was the wrong thing to do and when I ordered it they didn't bat an eyelash. Results in Tower of the speakers is phenomenal and my family says oh the speakers but coming from something that nobody knew how to use it never got used to having your wife kick back on the couch and listen driving system is priceless so it's not a guy system anymore it is everyone's. I'm a music fiend, but not a rich one. That said, the people at Audio High treated me the same way they treat the Silicon Valley guys who go in there with millions to spend on their hobby. It was so refreshing, I wish I'd found this place sooner. I went in to buy a $600 Mojo headphone amp, probably the cheapest thing in the place. But they demoed the real high end stuff for me and told me to make myself feel at home and come by anytime. I will. Whatever I wanted to try, they showed me and set it up, never making me feel like it was a chore. Yeah, it made my little mojo pale in comparison, but I still bought it and love it. Audio stores can often feel intimidating and snobby, especially when amazing speakers are selling for as much as $37,000 and amps into six figures. I went to another area store to try some headphones and they made sure to tell me that they hoped I wouldn't listen there and then buy on the Internet. It didn't need to be said. I support local business. But I didn't feel really welcomed there and I felt like they thought I was a pain. Not so at Audio High. I'm not rich, but if I ever am, I'm spending there. Hey, they gave me something to aspire to. The system in their big room sounds like you are at a concert. Even an old Jimi Hendrix bootleg sounded like he was right in the room. I wasn't rushed. The staff there was enjoying listening to great music as much as I was. That's how it's supposed to be. That's the kind of customer service that keeps businesses alive in the age of the Internet. They are extremely knowledgeable on the latest speakers; and they are very professional, fairly priced, and low pressure when it comes to selling their merchandise. Friendly, helpful, and patient. Eugene let me audition at least a dozen different speaker setups, as well as the ultra high-end ones, even though they were way out of my budget. Even though I wasn't well-versed in audiology, I learned a lot and he still wasn't tired of my questions after several hours in the store. Then when the speakers I finally bought were back ordered, they offered to let me take home a slightly better model from the showroom while waiting for mine to arrive. Only problem is, now I'm becoming rather fond of the loaners! On another occasion I came in looking for speaker wire to run under carpet and talked to Michael. Unfortunately they didn't have any of sufficient length, and I needed them that day - but again he was very patient and answered all my questions about wire with helpful suggestions for my DIY installation. read more

I'm on the hunt for some audiophile headphones and noticed Audio High carried a few cans in my price range; however, my price range isn't fully set in stone. If the cans I've been researching don't have the sound I need, I'm fully willing to save up more for the right product. Upon entrance, I quickly went from a highly excited audiophile ready to explore new sound to...feeling like a peon. One of the cans I've been reading up on was hooked up in the display room (HD650), the rest, were just under the quality threshold (AKG K702, BD DT880). This is fine and dandy, but I felt as soon as I mentioned a few cheaper options in my lineup, I was marked as a write-off. The salesman brought me over to the headphone section, quickly hooked me up with the 650's, and disappeared. I had a friend with me to talk sound, but was somewhat hoping I could geek out with the Audio High folks as well. The cans were nice, definitely an improved soundstage and tighter sound...but not quite what I'm looking for. I then got kicked in the foot. My friend was getting uncomfortable and felt the staff was staring him down like we didn't belong in the store. I wasn't nearly done auditioning and had further questions, but, I'm not going to stay in a place where it is perceived I am not wanted. Maybe this store isn't used to young professionals in their 30's? Thankfully the other salesman asked what I thought of the speakers as I was exiting the store. He opened up a bit after I gave my opinion (proof that I knew what i was talking about) and offered that I come back after checking out some of the lower end headphones on my list. If/when I do come back, I will definitely be talking to him. Overall, this showroom has a lot of nice equipment, I just wish I didn't feel judged in the process. read more

I went in to get a pair of headphones for the new digital audio player I'd ordered, and was helped to compare a range of headphones in my price range, and allowed as much time as I wanted to listen to them both on my phone and on the audio system set up there for demos. I eventually got a deal on the demo Shure 1840 headphones that I ended up loving :-). We've used Audio High several times now --we're not 'high end' budget at all - and each time our experience is the same..... most recently, what a nice experience it was to have their service tech guy David S here for two days to install our Sonos and replace our center speaker.....at least that's what he was scheduled to do but of course as you know, the moment you start replacing and installing things...... unexpected complications and additional problems pop-up. David not only took care of the scheduled items, but professionally and pleasantly took care of the other 90% of the job=the Unscheduled items. They were very innovative in solving some unique challenges, stayed on schedule, and stood behind their work. I've had subsequent dealings with them and continue to be impressed. Bought a pair of Tetra's here and was very satisfied with the whole experience. Seems like no audiophile place can escape the snotty attitude and this one is no exception. But at least it was down to a minimum. The salesperson did his best to match my home amp setup for auditioning speakers, even encouraged me to bring in my own amp. I auditioned several times and he was helpful every time. They do seem to push the Tetra line quite a bit since they're a distributor. I do admit they are excellent speakers but just be aware there might be a bias. read more

Approximately, 1 year ago I completed a major renovation of my house. Audio High was my subcontractor and vendor of choice for the wiring, design, equipment, and installation of my home automation system and home theater. Michael and his team performed a stellar job in all phases of my project. Throughout the process, Michael and his team have been extremely responsive in answering questions and following up with service issues. To date, the equipment has held up well and my entire family enjoys all the different systems in our house. My only qualm (which I expressed to Michael) was that on certain aspects of my job - there was a disconnect between his estimate for labor and what I was actually charged. Michael and I had candid discussions about the costs and were able to arrive at a mutually acceptable compromise. Last week I had the best experience I've ever had in an audio/video store. I'm trying to put together a high quality "near field" audio system for my desktop that will leverage my computer as a music server and deliver great sound to both speakers and headphones. From all of the research I've been doing on the web, it was clear that it would be good to find a local retailer who was well versed in high end audio who could help guide me toward my goal. As the editor of the high-end audio publication The Absolute Sound wrote in a recent article on the importance of your relationship with the retailer, "The good specialty audio retailer doesn't just move boxes of electronics; he provides you with the satisfaction of great-sounding music in your home. More than just an equipment dealer, he's usually a dedicated audio and music enthusiast himself --- he knows his products, and is often the best person to advise you on selecting equipment and system setup." I have found that type of retailer in Michael Silver and his company Audio High. Michael was "on the floor" when I visited his store last week, and the two hours I spent with him were invaluable in moving me toward my audio goal. I appreciated how he first wanted to understand what I wanted to accomplish. Then, as he shared his thoughts on my project with me, he introduced me to appropriate options for me to consider. His store has a wide variety of high-end equipment on display, but he focused on my project and the smaller, less expensive components that would be appropriate for the desktop system I've been envisioning for my small home office. I left his store with the first of the new components I needed in hand and will be returning to his store soon to spend time auditioning the next pieces for my system. We had a terrible experience here and I don't believe we will go back. We stopped by to listen to some of their speakers but didn't make it more than a few feet past the door. There was one person in the store, on the phone, claiming it was a support call from a customer with a tone implying that since this person had already paid up we were lower in priority - fair enough. We decided to wait a few minutes in the hope that we might get some service once the guy was off the call, instead he snapped at us repeatedly to not get too close to equipment. We left. I suppose this may be one reason stores like this are harder to find these days. Makes it harder to audition equipment but I can live without the attitude and snobbery. read more

First, the good: If you are looking for high end audio equipment, and a very knowledgeable staff, this is the place to go. Second, the not so good: I wish they would be more direct and turn away folks with smaller budgets, though I cannot blame them too much for it. In my case, they ended up recommending equipment that was three times my stated budget, which caused me significant angst trying to decide if I wanted to go so much over my budget, because they genuinely recommended better equipment. While their prices for the high stuff are probably very fair, on the lower end, it seems to me like they marked up vanilla items like faceplates, ridiculous amount which was more than annoying. I would have preferred if they just gave me a list of equipment to buy on my own, or at least the choice of doing so. Their installers are very meticulous, to a fault. What seemed like a fairly simple installation, went two times over budget, and I am not sure if it was just bad communications and expectations management, or incompetence. Either way, I felt I ended up paying far more than was budgeted for the install. I would be very reluctant to recommend them to anyone for anything other than buying high end audio gear - of course, if price is no object, then they likely will get the job done right... Downgraded further because of atrocious support or lack thereof for the programming of the remotes they did - essentially left the job half done, and when I asked the owner to fix it, he wanted to discuss the review first. Better customer service than most high-end audio dealers, but still lacking somewhat... my experience is that they were courteous, helpful, but largely disinterested when they learned I was only interested in a $1600 receiver they did not have in stock. I put my name on the contact list at the front of the store indicating to contact me when they had received the model and set it up in the demo room (as they were planning on doing). Never received that call, but did receive an email about a $50k+ set of speakers they were highlighting. Unfortunately, as fantastic performance becomes within the financial reach of more people due to Internet Direct companies, it becomes increasingly difficult to find anything in between mass-market and uber high end. Audio High is one of the few places that fills that niche, but appears to care most about that uber high-end... for obvious reasons... can't be much profit in the mid-level stuff in the internet age. read more
