Then they used self tapping screws to mount a piece of equipment and drilled right into my gas tank. Last year I took my Chevy Avalanche there to get the radio properly wired because whoever I bought the truck from didn't wire it correctly. And it was a mess I paid like $500 dollars and still had to come back the next day because their tech messed up and another had to fix it. Turns out they wired it straight to the Body Control Module (BCM) and the ignition which is now fried. I had called the store and spoke to Devin regarding the issue but he refused to go to Belen, NM to see it for himself. I read the reviews but I had a much different experience. Ervey Cordova was my rep and he did right by me. I got the newest Apple Car system and WOW it's amazing. They gave me a very fair deal and even showed internet pricing at Crutchfield; Audio Express pricing was better. I've had work done from Audio Express in the past and always thought they came off as rude but understood their business was to install equipment and not make best friends. I was hesitant to go since last time I went the vibe was just off. I pulled up today and had made up my mind I was gonna get me some new speakers for my truck and touch screen. I walked in and noticed they had remodeled and was like hmmm looks good. Walked over and started checking out the radios from the displays and identified one that looked like what I was looking for. I then begin to look at speakers for bit and was totally unsure what to get. After 10-15 min I realized this was the wrong spot because non of the workers in the room had even greeted me or acknowledged my presence. So when I left to get into my truck to leave the doors flung open and I got happy thinking they are coming to save me. Needless to say the worker was just making a quick personal phone call and I left without being acknowledged.... poor me Thank you David for taking time out of your busy day to reply. If your employees would put as much time and energy as you replying in just speaking and acknowledging customers when they enter I'm certain I wouldn't have wrote the review I did. Yes I agree the First employee was busy with who I am assuming was a customer. I didn't expect him to stop doing what he was doing. I'm thinking a "we will be right with you sir" is a little to much to asked these days. As far as your 2nd employee he came out when I was in the West wall. Eek, me thinks not is right. First off... the first 3 stereos i picked out for my car were sold out but still on display. Secondly, the staff had me wait 1.5hrs for them to tell me that i needed some extra parts for my installation. Thirdly I went and grabbed the parts from u-pull-it and it still took an additional hour for installation. Fourthly, the stereo that is currently installed in my car resets every 2 or 3 drives. Just over all a pain in the butt. The staff wasn't very helpful either. Try Paradise or something else, jeez. read more

Upon the recommendation of the techs here, I bought a sub and the box for it specifically made for my vehicle. Kept noticing a burnt metal smell when I cranked it. Went by to ask advice on it and 2 seperate techs both assured me this was normal. Well it wasnt. 9 months after the purchase the sub burnt up because even in the box I got from them it had limited travel due to the speaker hitting the bottom of the seat it was under.(installed as designed) the part that makes me mad is the techs both telling me this was normal. Over 200 Bill's later I have now had to replace the speaker and NOW they recommend a grill on top to protect the travel distance of the cone. Come on man. I was led to believe that the issue with my speaker system was something that needed further assessment with a $50 dock fee. The assessment revealed it was a setting on the audio system. Audio Express is a high volume retailer and is concerned only with making the initial sale-- not customer satisfaction. Not only does Audio Express employ sharp sales tactics in violation of the Unfair Trade Practices Act, it has a dreadful "first come, first serve" installation policy guaranteed to waste hours (if not days) of your time. Buyer beware. To begin with, Audio Express conceals its "no cash refund policy." If you go into Audio Express, you will not find any sign or posting alerting you to the fact that all sales are final. No salesman will tell you that you CANNOT return unopened merchandise. You will not initial or sign any piece of paper alerting you to this "no cash refund" policy. Without your knowledge, the salesman will (after completion of the sales transaction) simply staple a invoice to the back of your receipt. In small grayscale print on the back of the invoice, Audio Express will inform the customer that it has no cash refund policy. After you buy a sound system from Audio Express, you are unable to make an installation appointment because Audio Express does NOT allow appointments. Instead, you must drop in, leave your car and hope they can get to it. In my case, it took THREE installation visits before my radio was installed. If the customer gets frustrated with the installation quagmire, they CAN'T RETURN THE RADIO because of the no cash refund policy. I spend a total of 15 hours waiting for a basic cd player to be installed following the Christmas holiday. It was a nightmare. While waiting at Audio Express, I heard a number of customers complaining about the quality of the installation. They reported knobs not turning eel, broken door panels and rattling. The sales manager at the San Mateo location lacks the interpersonal skills to deal with irate and/or irritated customers. I would only go to Audio Express if you plan to install your sound system yourself. Instead, go see Mike Griego at Paradise Village. You'll be glad you did. read more

EPIC FAIL. When I went in for an install on Friday they wanted payment, they however wouldnt be able to install it until Monday. When I got my vehicle back the receiver wasn't hooked up to the speakers. When I asked for them to do it they wanted to apply an additional charge. I wont be taking any more of my vehicles in. You guys get a five star ass clown rating along with a permanent boycott of your business. Just to clarify for anyone reading, this is the store that used to advertise $1 installation. The $1dolllar install is no longer a thing, the install was $30 plus additional charges like zip ties etc.. The rated value of the install still remains not worth much more than a dollar however. There other places in town like Drivers den, Paradise village and even chain audio stores which perform the services you need. read more

Had purchased a couple full sound systems from these guys overs the years. Full on 12 speaker setups, not cheap by any means. Quality of work was decent, not super fast but average I'd say. Anyhow I was experiencing sound that would cut out sometimes and took it in to figure it out. Told me both subs had blown and I needed to spend 600 more dollars... no way... it was working right before I was in. Took the car to a competitor and they had discovered the Audio Express tech had cut both wires super cleanly and then told me they blew. This place is a scam, dishonest, fraud of a company. I hope they go out of business. The competitor fixed it for free and yes they fixed it without new subs. It was just a loose wire, they even re wired it for me free because it was such a shady thing Audio Express did. Hope you close your doors forever soon! read more

Incompetent I went in to have an alarm installed on my car. They told me to bring it in when they open at 9:00am and that it should take about six hours. At 5:00pm I call to see how things are going and I'm told the car is being worked on and that I will have it done by the end of the day. An hour later, they call me back and tell me they had a problem with the doors and that nothing was done. I was annoyed and let the person who called me know this, as it wasted a day. The person calling then hung up on me. When I got to the store, the manager told me that if I wanted I could still have the alarm installed that day and they'd figure out the rest. If the alarm was installed, and I felt that they cared to keep me as a customer, I'd be writing a different review. Unfortunately, this didn't happen. I went there because they were the only store open on Sunday, desperate times call for desperate measures. I went in looking for a battery that could handle 3,000 watts and a 0 gauge wiring kit, along with some RCA wires (4 Y-adapters, 2M to 1F). They would've had to order it, and wanted $750 even with a military discount. Nope. They seemed helpful enough though so I wanted to buy at least something, so I bought the Y adapters and went home. Once I got home I bought the battery and 0 gauge kit for $400 online with shipping. Then I went to install the Y-adapters and realized they had given me 2F to 1M Y-adapters, the opposite of what I needed and absolutely useless to my install. Mistakes happen, whatever, no big deal right? They were already closed by then so I bought the correct ones online for half price. The next day I went back to return them, never even opened, and the guy argued with me about selling me the incorrect ones and then told me that he "doesn't do refunds." No where in the store did I see a "No refund policy" or was advised of said policy prior to my purchase. I was offered in store credit, but they're not getting anymore of my business after what they tried to pull, and I don't need anything else. I disputed the charge with my credit card company, hopefully I'll get my refund one way or another, just wanted to warn the rest of you guys. I've never written a negative review of any company, but that's just silly. I did receive my refund via check after posting the above portion of the review (weird right?) but only after they made me confirm with my credit card company that I was not disputing the charge. I was also accused of being a keyboard warrior for telling it like it is. They referenced their recordings, and had no response for me saying that they probably heard me ask for 2M to 1F but gave me 2F to 1M. They also said that their no refund policy was posted all over the place. When I pointed out that the first time it occurs is on the receipt after the purchase has already been made, I was told that it normally never escalates to this point and something about online price matching which didn't make sense or seem relevant to me. I was also accused of opening the boxes and removing items from them. Anyways, I'm inquiring with the better business bureau to see if what they're doing is even legal. Based on their other reviews, I doubt it but I'm no lawyer. My intent is to prevent other people from being taken advantage of, because I doubt this is the first person that's happened to, and I potentially won't be the last. I hope they consider changing their refund policy and ethics in general. They tried convincing me that it's industry standard. Having worked in the industry before, and been closely involved with it for over twenty years, I know that's not true. All that being said, their employees were nice to me and their advice was solid. Their prices may be high but they're selling high end stuff. It's not necessarily a place for peasants. I think their bigger issue is at a management if not corporate level. read more

Initially, I brought in a old stereo I had for them to install, but was rejected as it didn't work. The gentlemen there suggested I purchase one of their stereos and he would offer me a discount for it along with installing it right there and then. Ofcourse, I was in need of a stereo so I agreed. Needless to say, I was over charged and the guys who did my install, nearly broke most of my car panels. On top of that, the stereo barely fit in my car. I had a alpine stereo with a motorized face cover and because they installed it wrong, it wouldn't move and accept CDs. I purchased a cd player and new speakers, the salesman did his job right, and everyone was pretty friendly but the installation was TERRIBLE! They had to keep my car over night because they needed " extra time" for it. When I went to pick it up they wanted to charge me an extra $80 because it was "really dufficult" and then the speakers sounded like sh*t! The rear ones did't even have sound, and the front ones had a lot of static as if it was blown. I don't even want to take it back to get it fixed, I'll go somewhere else. I had a viper alarm installed In my car. Had some work done to it. The heater core to be exact and the alarm stopped working after that. I took it in to see if they would help me. All the guy told me was the alarm is no good. You need a new one and offered a clunker buy back, I was like ok. Went back home called a friend whom is a electrics wizard to say the least and he had the alarm up and running In 15 minutes. All it was was a unhooked ground. That mistake would of costed me 179.99, well then the next one is when shopping for another alarm for my new car. I found the alarm for 275 online with all the extra sensors needed. I was quoted $500 and some for the same alarm without the additional sensors and shop and parts fees. Sorry but I won't go back. Prices are ridiculously high. The $1 install is what brought me in, but it wasn't really. I got a car stereo and for the price of what it was, it wasn't all that. I suggest that one does their research before going in, because installing one's own radio isn't that hard if one knows how to connect colored wires. But, I figured that I'd get someone to do it for me. They didn't have that much of a selection of radios, and the one that they suggested wasn't that good looking, but was offering it for $120, the whole job turned out to be $180. Because of other "fees" that they tacked on. On top of that, they didn't even give me a receipt. Another thing that I didn't like was that the cashier guy told me that there "may" be a "hard line" charge, if they had to wire differently and it would be an extra $40 to pay the service guy, but if I paid cash it would only be $20. I should have taken it as a sign to say, "No thank you" and leave, but I didn't. In the end, I would take it all back and get a full set-up down the street at Best Buy, for the same price. I've purchased just simple cash and carry items from this Audio Express location twice. Both times the service was adequate and fairly attentive. My first purchase was more or less right at suggested MSRP. However, the second purchase was nearly 100% over MSRP. As mentioned, the items were cash and carry and not expensive items. The prices on my second purchase seemed a little steep, so I did some checking on manufacturer suggested retail and what they charged and they were WAY WAY overpriced. The result was that I felt crummy after my most recent purchase, hence the one star. Anyway, I'll chalk it up to a not too expensive learning experience and eat the cost. But they have definitely made an Amazon or online shopper out of me. Don't always go local is my suggestion. The leveler? BEWARE!! Unfortunately, there is no procedure for giving negative stars. I went in to get a new stereo system in my truck and had some specific requirements which I told the salesman. He advised me to get a certain stereo which would satisfy my needs. When I got the truck back and started to use it as I desired, it did nothing of what I wanted. I returned to the store and the salesman was out, so I spoke to the manager. The manager then lied to my face and told me that the features I wanted were illegal and the store was, therefore, not responsible so I could not get my money back. I was quite tempted to throw the stereo through the store window, but refrained. I considered taking them to small claims court and charging them under the Unfair Trade Practices statute, but, of course, everything was verbal so there was a lack of proof. BEWARE!!! read more
