A delightful century old home turned into a restaurant in Amqui. It's not only a restaurant but Auberge and also a small specialty food store (selling jarred jams, sauces, packaged spices and other food treasures) plus also a chocolate shop. You don't find many of these old fashioned period decorated restaurants these days. This one harks back to a different era and is pleasan charming and comfortable.
My eating companion mentioned that they have a set menu (of 6-8 choices) that changes each day and if you get there late your selection may be eliminated by popular demand. Prices are very reasonable and the food is all gourmet home cooked. I had selected the soup to start (sweet onion and cheese) which was very simple yet deliciously rich in flavour. Then I had a salad with the seafood casserole (tilapia, salmon and imitation crab in a cream sauce). It was very generous in seafood and really tasty and rich. I'm not really a fan of Tilapia but in here it was really good! Serving size was perfect! My lunch mate had the pork tenderloin with a mustard sauce with sweet potato and beans. She mentioned the pork was a bit dry but with the sauce it was decent
He good! For dessert they had a decadent, rich hazelnut cheesecake that was to die for! First class!
The gift shop is a very clever touch! Why not promote gourmet sauces, spices and jams plus other delights before or after your meal. The chocolate shop is even more genius. With so many choc-oholics and a high level of homemade chocolate you could make a fortune here! Really adds to the ambiance (that this is like eating at a vintage premiere moisson only better)! I picked up some chocolates for home and have enjoyed them quite a bit so far!
This could be the best restaurant in Amqui and I know I will be back if and when the opportunity returns! read more
