A delightful century old home turned into a restaurant in Amqui. It's not only a restaurant but…read moreAuberge and also a small specialty food store (selling jarred jams, sauces, packaged spices and other food treasures) plus also a chocolate shop. You don't find many of these old fashioned period decorated restaurants these days. This one harks back to a different era and is pleasan charming and comfortable. My eating companion mentioned that they have a set menu (of 6-8 choices) that changes each day and if you get there late your selection may be eliminated by popular demand. Prices are very reasonable and the food is all gourmet home cooked. I had selected the soup to start (sweet onion and cheese) which was very simple yet deliciously rich in flavour. Then I had a salad with the seafood casserole (tilapia, salmon and imitation crab in a cream sauce). It was very generous in seafood and really tasty and rich. I'm not really a fan of Tilapia but in here it was really good! Serving size was perfect! My lunch mate had the pork tenderloin with a mustard sauce with sweet potato and beans. She mentioned the pork was a bit dry but with the sauce it was decent He good! For dessert they had a decadent, rich hazelnut cheesecake that was to die for! First class! The gift shop is a very clever touch! Why not promote gourmet sauces, spices and jams plus other delights before or after your meal. The chocolate shop is even more genius. With so many choc-oholics and a high level of homemade chocolate you could make a fortune here! Really adds to the ambiance (that this is like eating at a vintage premiere moisson only better)! I picked up some chocolates for home and have enjoyed them quite a bit so far! This could be the best restaurant in Amqui and I know I will be back if and when the opportunity returns!

Location: In the heart of Tadoussac and within walking distance if you're staying in the area…read more The place: It's quite small and I would say it fits no more than 2 people at a time. More than that, and it will be pretty cramped. The goods: There is a nice variety of chocolate, especially if you're a fan of the dark. I purchased a few things including a bear paw (similar to Turtles), almond bark and so on. Thus far, I've only tried the bear paw and my friend tried the orange-flavoured chocolate. We both really enjoyed it - that's some solid chocolate! One comment I have is about the lack of labels on the packaging. It's hard to remember what you bought if you're buying several items so it would be helpful if there was a label identifying each variety of chocolate. Just my .02 cents. Service: This is where I docked two stars. From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel uncomfortable and like we were disturbing the person who I presume, was the owner. First, in place of a greeting, we were scolded for not using the hand sanitizer that was NOT readily visible when one walks into the shop. We were both wearing masks so it's not like we ignored public health regulations. From that point on, we felt like we were being eyeballed the entire time we were in there. When I went to pay, I was actually made to feel like I was buying TOO MUCH chocolate. Are you kidding me? The icing on the cake was when I added an item and rather than offer me two bags (the bags are VERY small), she wanted to add the extra item to my friend's bag. This would have been fine - but I draw the line at having to give back a paper bag! Yes - I was asked if I was going to put the chocolate in my backpack because if that was the case, the owner wanted her bag back! I don't even have any smart-ass comments for that one. So while the chocolate is very good, the service is not. Price point: Very reasonable considering the quality of the chocolate.
