It sticks in my mind because some girl decided that she didn't want to hang around with her mum any more, and wanted to hang around me, and the fact that my French is pretty bad didn't really disuade her. Let's begin with the major positive point - The food, which is out sourced, is rather pleasant and a welcome change to most of the grub you get in Geneva. You can tell, hands down, that this is all freshly prepared and tastes like it too. The half ribs and chicken is my favourite, but then again I am a lover of ribs. The pies are tasty and the chips are certainly some of the best in Geneva. The price as well isn't something to grumble about and as you don't order their garlic mushrooms (trust me, thats the one thing you don't want to eat there) then it's a lovely experience. Another positive here is that the staff have always seem to have a big smile on their face. The music is a lot more Irish than in some watering holes and the decor is some what Irish, although less so than the lovely, yet awfully managed Mulligans in the centre of town. There is free wifi and they show lots of the GAA so big plus there. Many a night I have spent here and got drunk, and would recommend it to anyone having a little get together!

I tried the fish and chips - great, not greasy at all. My only issue with the place was I couldn't order a plate of french fries alone. I have a string of great memories from this bar all starting from my first weekend night living in this French border town. St.-Genis-Pouilly is a fairly common place for so-called CERN-ites to live. It has several apartment complexes that are available for month-to-month leases. It is less than a mile from the Swiss border and a bus stop that runs directly through CERN and downtown Geneva. And it has this bar, where construction workers, engineers, physicists and other expatriates sit down for a friendly pint and make new friends. I walked in here alone on my first Friday night and within a few hours, I had made great friends that would last my three month stint. The selection of beer and food resemble that of a British pub. As with most pubs, however, the value of the business lies in the friendly service and clientele. This bar served as a meeting place for my Friday and Saturday night goings on. This eventually extended to Thursday and Wednesday and sometimes Tuesday and maybe even a few Mondays. I shared many a round with the bartender, her sister and friends, the CERN rugby team, nuclear physicists, Swedish au pairs (!), and even a few locals. All in all, not the greatest food or selection but a five star pub in a perfect location for a young man learning the ways of the world, both big and infinitesimally small, one international city at a time.

I could see the waiter walking around waiting on other tables and just continued to ignore our table. I would not recommend this place unless you don't care to wait or you don't mind being ignored as someone visiting from the States. Maybe it's me and may be customary, but travelling Eroupe in numerous countries never has never been ignored like they did here by a service industry person.
