As it's literally a couple minutes down the road from CERN - but on the French side of the border - it makes it a convenient / much cheaper option to eat at. O Brasseur has its own parking lot, but with only 5 non-handicapped spots that can get a bit tight depending on how well/poor others do with parking, you may find it easier to park down in front of the Carrefour that is slightly further down the road and walking back to the pub. Despite being near an international research facility, French is definitely the language of choice here; while the waitress who handled my check knew a decent amount of English, our main server and the man tasked at the bar when we came in knew very little. At least the menu is in English, which made it easy enough to point at when my (extremely rusty) French failed me. The ambiance inside has a typical pub vibe to it, but since there was some shaded seating outside, we ended up out there, enjoying the warmth a little but also the coolness of the shade and the breeze. They do make their own beer here, so props to that. However, the selection is more limited (the English translations came out to lager, witbier, and amber ale - all with the same ABV somehow). I went with the 'limited edition', which I wish I had asked about...it was a Lambic, which was okay, but that kind of beer isn't up my alley. For the food, I would say that my wife's fish burger was actually a bit better / more distinguishable; the fish was very flaky and juicy, although that made it a bit tricky holding together the entire sandwich. My regular beef burger was pretty average - the meat was not as generic as some burgers I have had, but the patty felt a bit on the light side despite being a 6-ounce or so. Despite having bacon, cheese, and caramelized onions on it, none of those extras really came through. The French fries were decent, but the salad - topped with some heavy, mysterious white dressing that neither my wife or I could place - was just taking up space on the plate. The prices are reasonable here, and the vibe is alright - and that's about where expectations should be kept. O Brasseur is a solid place for a casual bite, and if you are in this particular area, you might as well eat here...there aren't many other options from what I could see. I wouldn't go out of my way to end up here again, though.

Let's begin with the major positive point - The food, which is out sourced, is rather pleasant and a welcome change to most of the grub you get in Geneva. You can tell, hands down, that this is all freshly prepared and tastes like it too. The half ribs and chicken is my favourite, but then again I am a lover of ribs. The pies are tasty and the chips are certainly some of the best in Geneva. The price as well isn't something to grumble about and as you don't order their garlic mushrooms (trust me, thats the one thing you don't want to eat there) then it's a lovely experience. Another positive here is that the staff have always seem to have a big smile on their face. The music is a lot more Irish than in some watering holes and the decor is some what Irish, although less so than the lovely, yet awfully managed Mulligans in the centre of town. There is free wifi and they show lots of the GAA so big plus there. Many a night I have spent here and got drunk, and would recommend it to anyone having a little get together!

I tried the fish and chips - great, not greasy at all. My only issue with the place was I couldn't order a plate of french fries alone. We found ourselves hungry in the southern side of Plainpalais, when we happened on LG. We had actually been looking for another restaurant, which was closing just as we arrived. I convinced my friend, who was by then suffering from starvation-induced crankiness and despair, to give the generically-Irish looking pub a chance. Stepping inside is a surprise, as it's much nicer than you would expect from the plain black exterior. The bar is long and deep, with huge chalk-writing on the wall announcing their specials and cocktails. The windows are adorned with Christmas lights, which somehow avoid being tacky and actually creates a nice environment. And if you're like me and don't like pubs in general, the restaurant-like setting makes LG feel almost elegantly romantic, as long as you can get passed the big screen TVs showing football or basketball. Most importantly, of course, the burgers. We both had the Town Burger with Cheese, and I was a bit skeptical as they didn't ask how we wanted our meat cooked. So I was very pleasantly surprised to find the meat with a juicy pink center! I'm apt to believe that the lovely Lady Godiva has decided that burgers should ONLY be cooked medium to medium rare, and has made an executive decision not to offer it any other way. The patty could have used just a little more spices, but I was very happy with the quality of the meat. I'd forgot to ask them to hold the thousand island dressing on the burger, but was very happy to find that the burger only had a very thin swirl of the dressing on the bun, just enough to add flavor without making the burger soggy. Oh, and did I mention that the bun was beautifully toasted and tasted really good? The fries were thick-cut, "typical British fries," according to my British dining-mate. They weren't outstanding, and I had a few fries that seemed a bit under-fried. Lady Godiva was one of the places that have been touted as having the best burger in Geneva. In fact, I think pretty much all burger joints in Geneva have been raved about by someone or other as having the "best" burgers. While I wouldn't say Lady Godiva was the best, I would happily give it a top 2 or 3 rating among the places I've tried so far. It's also on the other side of town from the other two English/American pub options, so definitely worth a go if you find yourself on the left side of the river looking for a friendly crowd to watch a game or just have a good burger.

Needless to say this is as blunt and honest a review as I can give. To start with, lets just address a major problem with this pub - It's price. Located in the heart of the 'cheap' student area of the city, the price is more expensive than some of the hotels next to the lake! The food as well is priced extremely high considering the options available around the area. There are very few deals on, and despite the rather impressive selection of beers on tap, the selection of other drinks is rather limited. Secondly, this is more of a restaurant than a pub... and to be honest I would rather call this a Gastro-Restaurant than a pub. The food selection is large and over priced, and the qua lit is nothing to rave about. They recently did a revamp not he food menu, but it is still appalling. On a more positive note, the amount of sport that they show is great and it does seem to fill up nicely for the odd big event that they host. However, friday night after 11, this place becomes a grave-yard. The pub quiz is good, although there are better ones in Geneva, such as The Clubhouse. To sum up, this pub seems to be stuck & in need of some major changes; but all is not lost!

Worth a visit, if you can see other clients already inside. It needs a critical mass. So long as the numbers of clients remain good, the atmosphere will too. Large windows on the brightly coloured furniture and 80's style art. More akin to a children's play centre than a modern wine bar.
