Not only did the King Cake fail to arrive on the day it was supposed to, but when I reached out to ask what happened I wasn't offered a refund or a partial refund -- no sincere apology, explanation, or attempt to make it right.. To make matters worse, I tried to contact the owner, Aaron Atwood, directly about the issue and received no response at all. For something that should have been a special celebratory order, the lack of communication and accountability was really frustrating. Atwoods of Alexandria reminds me of so many bakeries in Louisiana (#1), these places are almost always popular within the community with an endless plethora of sweets with lots of other options in between. Whether it's an occasional treat, a special occasion, or simply lunch, Atwood's is always a great option. Locals are here for all sorts of reasons: morning coffee, freshly baked pastries (croissants are on point), sandwich for lunch, dessert anytime, and cake. The latter is a big one, especially during this time of year, i.e. Mardi Gras. Their regular king cake with cream cheese is most definitely a hit. I wouldn't hesitate to get a custom cake ordered here and I think their prices are still reasonable. They also have a number of small, personalized desserts, and also have a solid variety of gelato and cookies as well. I appreciate their attention to seasonal items. It's super cute on the outside, and despite not being overly spacious, has enough tables for small groups to enjoy a drink and a small dessert treat. Parking is plentiful, they accept credit cards, and they're a women-owned establishment. The times can get tricky since they close on Sundays and Mondays and are only open till 2pm for midweek. They offer weekend brunch now with a good menu. I've had the veggie omelette twice and it is well served each time. Loved the home made whole grain toast- yum- no keto here! This cute bakery doubles as a breakfast restaurant! Seems like a place popular with the locals so it's just the perfect crowd, not too many people, but also not awkwardly empty. Not only can you choose from a whole array of bakery items, but you can be seated and sift through their extensive menu. My husband and I went to Atwoods today for lunch. We were seated and drinks ordered. We sat for another 30 minutes watching while tables that came in after us were being served. We informed 2employees that we were not being served. They asked who got the drinks. When we told them they said she was new and the other server was going to take our order. The table in front of us that came in after us was giving their order to the Server. We thought surely we are next. The Server then went to the other table that came in after us. At that point we got up to leave and a man I Assume was the manager was standing near our table l. I told him we were leaving because we had not been served and others that came in after us were being served. He asked who seated us and said oh she did not put your number on the board. They had just put our number on the board after we complained to the other employees that were standing around. When I told him we were leaving he said oh well. No apologies. Basically we don't need your business. We are African Americans and the other customers were all Caucasian. This is not 1960 America. read more

What a wonderful place! We were welcomed in a friendly manner, and received terrific service throughout our visit. Our questions were answered in a courteous and thorough manner. Service times were quick, even though they were super busy. The atmosphere is casual, but my boo and I enjoyed our time here...so it could be a nice place to have a laid back, getting-to-know-you date. The restaurant/bakery is very clean. There were about 13 tables, with seating of 2-4 (but tables could be pushed together). Bakery cases were sparkling clean, and baked goods looked fresh and delicious. There was a glass case dedicated to chocolates (I apologized to staff for the face imprint and copious amounts of drool I may have left behind). There was a case for cakes and pies...oh my gosh, there were fresh strawberry pies! The cookie/muffin case included cannolis, cinnamon buns, pizza croissants, cheesecakes (regular and individual size), carrot cake, lemon bars, and the list goes on. The gelato case looked yummy, too. They serve breakfast, with items such as eggs benedict. Smoothies are available with flavors including mudslide and pina colada. Lunch includes sandwiches, wraps, salads, soup and so on--I plan to try the salami melt. Espresso drinks are available, as well. There was a big jar with doggie biscuits, if Fido needs a treat. Went there trying to support local vs chain. Looked fantastic! The homemade soup was fantastic the bakery goods were average. The red velvet cup cake nothing spectacular- the cheesecake mini praline torts were ok. I spent 34.00 for two mini cheesecakes 1 cupcake 1 chocolate mousse and container of soup. On a Saturday morning, with an empty stomach, Atwood's was THE place to be. It was love at first sight. Everyone here is warm and welcoming. I felt a part of a new, extended family when I walked through the doors. Upon walking in Atwood's, directly in front of me was a plethora of baked goods from mini pies, to cupcakes, croissants, chocolate covered bacon and candied pecans to name a few. For my morning fuel, I had the omelet with grits and 9-grain toast (which you can also buy a loaf of). You have an option of three items to add in your omelet. I chose cheese, mushrooms and onions. I loved every bit of my omelet. The mushrooms were fresh and perfectly sautéed. My omelette had layers of gooey, cheddar cheese, all throughout, as well as on top. This breakfast was everything y'all. I spoke with one of the bakers, who told me they come in between 3-4am to prepare the days' offerings on site. All of the baked items were beautiful. Although I didn't get to try them because I was so full off my breakfast, judging by my breakfast, I'm sure the bakery items are nothing short of amazing. From the warm smiles to the perfect cheese grits, I would fly to Alexandria solely to have Atwood's. I grew up going to Atwood's bakery with my mom. Every weekend, she would take me to get Petit Fours and other treats. Whenever I'd have a birthday, my cake always came from here. So, it's only right that when my mom or I are in town, we stop by Atwood's to pick up desserts! The latest stop from Atwood's had two King Cakes in tote. We wanted a King Cake filled with Cream Cheese and one without. Both cakes were so moist, soft, and delightful. The cream cheese filled cake was almost my favorite, and I've never been a fan of cream cheese King Cake's. The cream cheese wasn't too sweet, but had just the right amount of sweetness, with its creamy texture! The regular cinnamon King Cake was also so wonderful! Instead of choosing between one or the other, I recommend getting the two of them and having a taste of both worlds. I've never had a bad dessert from this bakery. Nicest people around! Scratch food - all homemade. First off - the welcome was extremely friendly. We visited on a Saturday, and we were told they offer free coffee Saturday mornings. The eggs Benedict was first class, and the ham was definitely not processed. And made with biscuits rather than English muffins. (Yum!). The breakfast sandwich was also excellent. The croissant was toasted beautifully and perfectly crispy. We didn't have the fruit bowl, but really wished we did when we saw it on the table next to us. This place is an awesome little gem in Middle of Nowhere, LA. I was honestly shocked at the quality of the baked goods, all things considered. A friend and I ventured out there when I was in town for a weekend, and ordered just about one of everything on the menu. They even had fresh dog treats! I love anywhere that caters to the pups, too. We took our delicious boxes of diabetes and dug in. My pan au chocolat was seriously amazing. I'm a hard sell on pastries, especially french ones, and this hit the spot. It was so huge that I couldn't even finish it, let alone begin on the rest of my treats until later. Passed by here at least 100 times, and I really should have come in before. It was pretty full with older people having lunch, which is almost always a sign of good food. Among the many, many sweet treats I picked the brownie tower, a peanut butter cookie, and to drink, a medium coffee. I also had a sample of a delicious pecan pie. I was impressed with the richness of the brownie tower. As a matter of fact I was half way through with it, and was already full. This is a must stop in Central Louisiana. My family was briefly in town from Houston and looking for a local non-chain place to eat. Atwood's Bakery was the choice, and it did not disappoint. We went on a Saturday around 11:30 am, so between the 7 of us we ordered many breakfast and lunch items. Pancakes, bacon, fruit, eggs, biscuits and gravy, the club, shrimp and grits, cupcakes, gelato, a tart, a smoothie. It was all excellent, fresh, and delicious. I wish we had something this good and so easy to get to in Houston. My hubby and I had breakfast here one morning and I was very impressed. The breakfast itself was very good, but not great. While a part of me loved the fact that there were chunks of mushrooms and giant slices of tomato in my omelet, it also made it very watery and messy. These things are usually diced because it lets more water evaporate during the cooking. This didn't stop us from returning for breakfast the very next morning though - this time to share one of their giant cinnamon rolls (eat your heart out Cinnabon) and a couple of their filled croissants. I loved this place and found myself wishing I could go back one more time (even though I couldn't). The croissants are actually light and buttery - not tough and doughy like at grocery store bakeries. They have just about anything you could want to satisfy your sweet tooth - cookies, pies, cakes, hand-rolled truffles, tortes, cupcakes, gelatto, and I could keep going. What I really loved was how quiet it was. We came in and ordered breakfast and cappuccinos and then could just sit and relax. We weren't forced to overhear anyone else's unimportant conversation just because they lacked an "inside-voice". That may have more to do with being in Cenla and less to do with the bakery itself, but it's still nice to know. read more
