They give you a code specific to you for entering and exiting. There have been two incidents in the last couple of years that prevent me from giving them a higher rating. My unit got broken into and various items were taken. I didn't find out about this until I showed up to find it with a different lock. I was shocked they hadn't reached out to me about it and the lack of information was astounding given that they're supposed to have cameras. They said I had to file a police report if I wanted to get any more details. This was very disappointing so now I keep a better inventory of what I have and don't keep anything valuable. The second incident was the gate not working. The keypad displayed a message saying the network was down. I called the support number since no staff was on site despite it being working hours. They didn't know what the issue was, only that the system was down and that no employees were able to be on site to assist until the following day. I proceeded to panic because I had an event in a couple of hours and I needed to get a lot of items out for it. I told them that was unacceptable and that I would have to try to get in somehow. Thankfully an employee arrived about 30 minutes after and helped me in. It was so stressful. I now try to go at least a day before to make sure this doesn't happen again. The only reason why I don't move my unit is because it's so close to me. When it comes to pricing, it's pretty comparable to other places.

I was past my reservation date(which was through a third party) getting to the office to actually rent a unit but the unit i needed was still available. Now, aspects that cost them a 5 rating. Mandatory insurance: 1 of two things, either they expect potential losses of property therefore ins would be a substantial concept or if company feels safe within their own environment, why are we paying for things they are not supposed to let happen?? Isnt that the basic idea of storage, a safe place to store items! That also leads to my next point..Locks! Only a disc lock is acceptable and any other has a risk of being removed?! Ill be honest here, i don't know how much of this is common storage facility policies and how much is more lot or company related. But heres the clincher, property maintenance! Area was clean but not properly maintained. Any area not paved or directly connected to the office was heavy with (i think they are refered to as bullhead) stickers, the ones that get stuck in paws and fur of 4legged friends or in shoelaces, socks, toes, pantlegs, i think you get the idea. They cover the field from fence TO the street, and include by front parking lot on property side and on street side of drainage ditch/creek running parallel with Peoria. Any body on foot to/from would have to walk in aprox 16" shoulder along side traffic on south peoria, or get feet fulls of stickers or cross Peoria in a non designated area. As a sidenote not all offers apply to all or any unit rented. Makes sense to me but further proof of-if you see it online it must be...??? I did not go look at it and I did not do much research. We rented from another company, we rented a climate control unit it was in a gated area but the building it was in was never locked. Our unit was broken into in a few months. We asked them to secure the building as they have other locations and the building is secure. The fence around the unit could be climbed. We tried to work with them but had no luck. All that said yesterday we went to Extra Space Storage to look at a unit, find out their security of the units and how secure the units were. As I learned my lesson to not just go online and rent a unit. The experience was amazing the Manager Joseph was a great help. ALL units are indoor and ina. Locked in area no one without access should ever be in there. I felt peoples stuff was very secure, not to say that things won't happen there is always that chance but ai don't feel that it is easy at all for it to happen. We saw the security cameras that are all around inside and we're working an a huge display screen. (Not like our other location that after it was broken into said their cameras have not been working for a while.) These units are all inside the old JC Penny's area or Promenade Mall at 41st and Yale. You drive in the gate inside the building and can get close to your unit or have a drive up unit that you can pull up too. Ours is not a drive up but very close to where you can park. They have carts inside to load and unload your vehicle or storage unit. The lock system they use is a cylinder lock and harder for it to be broken into so that was another security measure I loved.
